NAME: PROFESSOR ANTHONY IVO
I liked some parts of Arrowverse!Ivo. He was evil and insane that helped enhance his character. But the whole Mirakuru arc felt forced. Just like Ivo felt forced in the DCU. I made this character a true fusion of the two. He is slightly closer to Arrowverse!Ivo than DCU!Ivo. But I did bring some of the DCU elements over. Ivo's specialty was a prime example. He didn't need Mirakuru. He was already using robotics to create a living cell (or close approximation). Why not make a nanorobot to heal the body? Hence the experiments.
ORIGIN:
Professor Anthony Ivo was a University Professor with borderline morality working at Ivy City University. He had a genius-level intellect. His specialties were cellular and structural biology, robotics, and nanorobotics. His goal was to create an artificial biological cell that can mimic life with his nanobots.
His wife got an inoperable brain tumor. Cancer. At this point, Ivo decided that he MUST find a way to save his wife. He must find a way to cure her cancer. His University denied his research on moral grounds. Ivo decided to take his research to international waters.
Ivo bought the cargo ship, the Amazo, and retrofitted it with a state-of-the-art research laboratory inside. He took the ship and picked a pirate crew. He created a nanotech virus and infected each of the pirates. The nanotech targeted specific organs and would release a debilitating acid at Ivo's voice command.
The first Captain tried to defy him in front of the crew. At a spoken word, the Captain fell to the floor writhing in pain until he finally died screaming. The rest of the crew were adequately terrified and never tried to cross him again. In return, Ivo largely ignored what the crew did as long as he has test subjects. The pirates were responsible for collecting human test subjects.
His wife died two months after he first set sail. With her death, Ivo lost what was left of his mind. He was an insane genius bent on unlocking the key to curing everything, including cancer. He specialized in nanorobotics, but he found larger robotics to be just as easy to create. They just presented no challenge.
In this story, since Ivo started his research, two years have passed. Once a month, the Amazo went to a port to stock up on supplies. One day for sundries. One day for human cargo. Ivo doesn't care how the subject cages are filled, as long as they are full. He allowed the crew to have the females. He would only test on the males. The crew were told to ensure that the men were not too damaged for testing. Besides that, the crew was allowed to do what they wanted to the human cargo.
FAMILY:
Ivo was married, but his wife died of an inoperable brain tumor. She died not long after he departed on the Amazo. They had no children. Ivo's company went into receivership. His professorship at Ivy City University was cancelled.
MOTIVATION:
Ivo's motivation was to find a cure for all diseases, including cancer. His main failure was that he didn't care how he found that cure. He induced illness and cancer in his subjects to test his cures. If a subject was not cured or died. They were disposed of overboard. Ivo had no morality after the loss of his wife.
PERSONALITY:
Ivo was a very forceful personality. He was very intelligent and could easily read people's emotions. He used those emotions to manipulate them. He was an expert manipulator. He was always able to deflect blame from himself to his victims. His experiments failed because his subjects failed. Not him. He would use any means to achieve his goals. He considered what he was doing as right. If you opposed him, you are wrong.
NOTES:
Ivo was one of those DCU villains that don't make any sense. Like Joker. Ivo created the Amazo Robot. But why? I think he was more than a touch insane in DCU and they just tried to write a backstory for the Amazo Robot. They needed a tough bad guy to go against the Justice League but failed to do any type of backstory until after it was published. One of the many limitations of the comic media.
