Chapter 5
The next morning, Sharon woke up before Andy and she slipped out of his embrace. She put her silk robe around her and looked back at Andy, who was still sleeping. She guessed she wore him out last night after their shower and lovemaking. She then made her way downstairs to the den and unlocked the computer screen. If it was true, and the FBI were already involved in this potential case, then she would need to notify the FBI liaison once they went into the office.
She was looking at the computer and printed out the article she found. She then glanced at the clock on the wall and saw that it was 5:30am. Their alarm would be going off soon so she made her way back up to their room. She saw Andy was still sleeping so she carefully slipped back into their bed and snuggled up to him. He stirred and moved his arms to encircle her. She moved her hand to his chest and closed her eyes.
Andy's alarm went off five minutes later and he groaned as he opened his eyes. He saw Sharon was curled up to him as he tried to maneuver himself without disturbing her. She moved slightly as she was awake and he turned his alarm off. She was now looking down on him and smiled. "Good morning beautiful," he said to her and smiled. She leaned down and kissed him. "Hmm, good morning" she said to him. He ran his hands up her side of her robe and wondered when she put that on during the night. "Were you cold during the night?" he asked her. "No, you kept me warm" she answered as she laid back down onto her side to face him.
"When did you put your robe on?" he asked her as he turned towards her and moved a piece of her hair to the side of her face. "Oh, maybe a half hour ago" she told him and then leaned into him to kiss him again. They were still kissing when her alarm went off ten minutes later. "I guess we should get up and get ready for work" he said to her as he deepened their kiss. His hands went down to remove the tie on her robe and she smiled. "Hmm, well if you keep doing that we won't be leaving on time" she whispered that to him. She kissed him one more time and then moved off of him and their bed.
She made her way towards their closet and started to figure out what she was going to wear to the office. He groaned as he watched her walk away from him and slip out of her robe. He ran his hand over his face and then sat up. He stretched his arms and stood up from their bed, making his way to their bathroom and started to get ready for the day.
An hour later, Sharon was getting breakfast ready for Matthew as he gathered his homework and placed it in his backpack. "Here you go Matthew" she said as she placed the milk on the kitchen table next to his bowl of cereal. Andy walked into the kitchen wearing his grey suit and purple tie to match Sharon's purple dress shirt. He gave her a smile as he made his way to the coffee that was waiting for him. "So, are you ready for your summer break soon?" he asked Matthew as he took a sip from his mug. "Yep, I can't wait! Baseball will be starting soon and then summer camp!" Matthew said in between eating Cheerios. They agreed to sign Matthew up for baseball again since he had such a fun time last summer and since going to that baseball camp during the winter, he had improved in his hitting. Sharon was preparing a bagel for herself and Andy was waiting at the toaster for his to be ready.
Once breakfast was finished, Andy prepared to-go mugs for him and Sharon's coffee and grabbed the keys for the car. He was waiting for Matthew and Sharon in the kitchen when Rusty came inside from the back door. "Hey, good luck this morning" Andy told him as he walked into the kitchen. "Uh thanks" Rusty said and Andy could tell he was still nervous. Sharon walked back into the kitchen and saw Rusty there. "Hey, good luck today" she told him and gave him a hug. "Thanks, um do I look ready for this?" Rusty asked her and she looked him over. "I'd say you are" she smiled at him. He was wearing a new suit and was carrying a briefcase shoulder bag. "Ok, well I better get going, I'm meeting Andrea at the office before we go to the courthouse" Rusty told them and then waved goodbye and left the house.
Andy glanced over at Sharon. She had her proud mom face on as she watched Rusty leave. She turned around and watched Matthew walk into the kitchen with his backpack. "Ok, are we ready to leave as well?" she asked her boys. Matthew nodded. "Ready" Andy said as he handed Sharon her to-go mug. Sharon gave him a smile as she grabbed her mug and then they walked out the back door.
They had dropped Matthew off at his school and were now on the freeway headed into downtown LA. Traffic was typical for a Tuesday morning. Sharon was looking out her window when Andy slammed on the breaks. "You've got to be kidding me!" he exclaimed as the car in front of them stopped suddenly, wanting to exit. Sharon looked over to him and grabbed his right hand, which was on the console. She smiled as she did this, it was her way of calming him on their drive. He moved his hand so their fingers intertwined.
"So, you know how I found that article about the missing wife Patrice mentioned to us?" Sharon started talking to Andy. "Yeah?" he answered keeping his eyes on the road for other cars that didn't know how to drive this morning. "Well, I think we may have to turn over our evidence to the FBI" she started to tell him. "What?" he questioned and then briefly glanced over in her direction. "The FBI, according to the article that I printed out, is well aware of a missing person with the same name as the one Patrice informed us about yesterday" Sharon added. Andy sighed as their exit was coming up and he put on the turn signal to get off the freeway.
They arrived in the parking garage and Andy parked the car but before Sharon got out, he grabbed her hand again. "Yes?" she asked him as she looked into his eyes. "I love you" he told her. She smiled at him. "I love you too" she replied. He wasn't letting go of her hand. She looked at him inquisitively. "Is something wrong?" she asked him. He looked at her. "No" he replied. "I just wanted one more minute with my wife before she turns into the Commander this morning" he added and smiled. She laughed and shook her head. "Come on or we will be late" she told him. He nodded his head and let go of her hand. They exited the car and made their way towards the elevators.
Arriving on the ninth floor, Sharon was the first to step into their office followed by Andy. Provenza was already sitting at his desk, working on his crossword puzzle. "Good morning" Sharon stated to him. Provenza cleared his throat. "Good morning, Commander" he said to her and she walked by and headed towards her office. Provenza looked at Andy as he stopped at his desk. "Everything good with Patrice last night?" Andy asked him. "Yes, she knows we are looking into this, whatever it is, now and" Provenza started to say but before he could finish, Mike walked in with the SID report from the rug.
"Gentlemen, sorry to interrupt but I just got the report from SID regarding our blood stain on the carpet" Mike said to them as he walked over to where they were standing. Andy looked over at Sharon's office and waved for her to come out and join them. She walked out and over to where they were standing in front of a blank murder board and listened to what Mike had to say.
"So, SID discovered that the blood stain on the carpet is human, and type AB negative" Mike started to tell them. "They also discovered bleach, paint, and carbonated drinks on the carpet" he added as he read the report. "Do we know what blood type Amber is?" Sharon asked. Mike pulled out another piece of paper. "I had run her information yesterday when I was waiting for SID to meet me at their warehouse area" he started to say as he handed Sharon the report he printed out. Sharon looked it over and saw what her blood type was. "AB negative" she stated and then looked up at her Lieutenants.
Meanwhile the rest of the team started to walk into the office. "Morning," Buzz stated to them as he walked over to his desk. Amy walked to her desk and wondered what they were all gathered at the murder board for. "Did we get a case?" she asked them. Sharon turned around and hesitantly answered her. "Yes and no" Sharon said, which threw Provenza and Mike for a loop. "What do you mean?" Provenza asked her.
"I found a news article from 3 months ago on the internet about Amber reported being missing and it sounds like the FBI is already involved in it" Sharon told him and everyone else. "Oh really?" Provenza stated. "Yes, so I was going to call our FBI liaison and see what they could tell us" Sharon added. She then walked over to her office and sat down behind her desk. "Well, I'm just going to put up this information here on the board until we know otherwise" Mike stated as he started to write things down on the murder board. "Why is it that every time we have a possible case lately that the FBI is somehow involved in it?" Provenza stated as he stood there watching Andy walk over to his desk.
"I hope you're not expecting an answer" Andy said to him as he sat down and started his computer. Provenza huffed as he sat back down at his desk and picked up the crossword puzzle, he was currently working on. Meanwhile Sharon picked up her phone and started to dial Agent Morris's number.
"Agent Morris, Commander Flynn here" Sharon started to say as he answered his phone. "What can I do for you this morning Commander?" Agent Morris answered her. "I need to know what information you have on this missing person" she started to tell him the information. "I'll see what I can come up with Commander and I'll let you know" Agent Morris informed her. "I appreciate that" Sharon said and then they hung up. She glanced out her window to the bullpen and saw Mike was writing information on the murder board. She would have them do that for now until she heard back from the FBI.
Meanwhile, at the District Attorney's Office, Rusty was prepping for court with Andrea in her office. "I think you're ready Rusty" Andrea told him as she stood up and gathered the papers they needed. "Um, thanks, uh I just want to thank you for this opportunity, Andrea," Rusty stammered. Andrea smiled. "Don't be nervous, you'll do fine" she told him as she walked past him to the door. "And I'll be right there next to you if you need help" she added. Rusty acknowledged and grabbed his bag, walking out with her towards the elevators.
It was now mid-morning, back on the ninth floor at the PAB, Sharon had all of her detectives in the bull pen working on this potential case. Amy was looking into the financials of Craig Anderson while Julio was researching Amber's information. Mike was diving into the SID report and going over it with Buzz. Andy was sitting at his desk looking into Craig Anderson to see what kind of background he could discover on the guy. She decided to walk out to where they were to see what the progress was.
"Where are we on this potential case?" Sharon asked as she walked over to the murder board. "Craig Anderson's financials are a little sketchy, Commander" Amy started it out. "What do you mean?" Sharon asked her. "Well, he has several accounts that his name is listen on, and then there's one account that has his name and also Amber's name still on it, but then there's another account for bit coins that's in his and a Kristy Anderson" Amy explained.
"Bit coins, what is that?" Provenza asked. "It's cryptocurrency" Amy answered. "Crypto what?" Provenza asked as he leaned forward in his chair and looked towards Amy. "Cryptocurrency" Mike answered. "It's digital currency that uses encryption technology as an alternate form of payment" Mike added further. "Is it legal?" Provenza asked them. "It is legal in the U.S., Japan, the U.K," Mike answered him. "Ok, ok, I get it Mike, thank you" Provenza added and then sat back in his chair.
"How much bit coins are in this fund Amy?" Sharon asked. "He has 100 bit coins in that account which is equivalent to" Amy answered as she was figuring out the amount. "$4,291,279 dollars" Amy added and everyone hollered "what?". "Does he have access to this money?" Sharon asked. "Um, yes and no" Mike answered her and she turned around to face him. "It is stored in a digital wallet but it is not backed by any banking institute" Mike informed them. "It's more of an investment than cash on hand" he added. "He could access it at any point but he would have to cash or sell whatever amount he wanted in his digital wallet" Mike concluded.
"And this account needs to be reported to the IRS?" Sharon asked out loud. "Yes, just like any other investment account" Mike continued to answer her. "Thank you, Mike," Sharon told him and then moved towards the murder board. "What information do we have on Craig?" Sharon asked and Andy cleared his throat. "Craig Anderson, 48 years old, born in Los Angeles, works as a business consultant for Anderson Consulting Group, he is not the owner" Andy informed them. Sharon folded her arms in front of her as she listened to Andy.
Sharon's cell phone rang as Andy was done talking about Craig. She held up her hand as she answered her phone. "Commander Flynn" she said. "Commander, it's Agent Morris" Agent Morris said. "Ah Agent Morris" Sharon said as she listened to what he was telling her. Andy glanced at Provenza and they already knew what was being said judging from Sharon's mannerisms. "I understand" Sharon said and continued to listen to Agent Morris. "We will send you our SID's information on the rug that was discovered outside of the home" Sharon informed him. "Thank you, Agent Morris," Sharon said and then hung up her phone.
Sharon sighed and then looked at her team. "The FBI is already aware of Mister Craig Anderson and all of the information that we have discovered and they will be stopping by this afternoon to pick up the SID report and we will turn over the rug that is in evidence to them" Sharon informed all of them and then focused on Andy. He mouthed 'sorry' to her and she shook her head slightly. It seemed lately that a majority of their cases had been turned over to the FBI. Sharon walked back into her office and sat down at her desk. Andy followed her inside and closed the door behind him. "Well, you called it this morning when you found that article" Andy said to her, trying to lessen the blow. Sharon didn't look up at him but just continued to look through some papers that were on her desk.
"Is everything ok?" he hesitantly asked her as he stood in front of her desk, leaning on one of the chairs. Sharon let out a breath and then looked at him. "Yes, because technically, this wasn't our case to begin with but it still stings a little" she reassured him that she was ok. "Do you want to grab lunch soon?" he asked her. "Yes, that would be nice" she smiled at him. "I'll go down to that sandwich shop on the corner and get something" he told her. "Perfect, thank you Andy" she told him and he grinned back at her and then left her office.
"I'm heading to the sandwich shop down the corner, anyone want anything?" Andy asked the team. "I'll go down there with you" Provenza answered as he stood up from his desk and placed his suit jacket on. "Patrice got you off your diet sir?" Julio teased Provenza. "As a matter of fact, Julio, she did not make my lunch this morning" Provenza quipped back and then turned to Andy who was waiting for him. "Anyone else want to come with?" Andy asked one more time. He was met with silence so he left the office behind Provenza.
"Well, Patrice should be happy that the FBI has Craig under their investigation" Andy said to Provenza as they waited for the elevator. "I'm sure she will be once I tell her," Provenza said and then moved to the side as people got out of the elevator. One of them was Winnie Davis. "Ah Lieutenants, where are you two headed off too" she asked them. "Um, we have some official business downstairs" Provenza quickly said before he and Andy stepped onto the elevator. She looked at them as the doors closed. "Why would you say that to her?" Andy asked as he slapped his hand against Provenza's arm. "Ouch! Why'd you hit me?" Provenza exclaimed.
"Wonder why she was on the ninth floor?" Andy wondered and then quickly texted Sharon just as a heads up. 'Davis on the ninth floor' he texted her. 'Thank you for letting me know xx' Sharon's response was. The elevator then opened on the first floor and the two stepped out. They made their way outside to the corner and waited to cross the street. Andy was looking around at the different people. Provenza looked at him. "What's the matter?" he asked Andy. "Nothing" Andy said as he waited for the crossing signal to change.
They entered the sandwich shop and placed their orders. Waiting on the other side for them to be ready, Provenza stood drinking a soft drink while Andy leaned up against the counter. "Are you ever going to retire?" Andy asked him out of the blue. Provenza looked over at him. "Why would you ask me that?" he said. "I don't know, its just, I thought maybe you would want to enjoy your time with Patrice and travel with her" Andy stammered and added that. "Are you feeling ok Flynn?" Provenza asked him. Flynn rolled his eyes and was going to say something back to him but then he heard his name being called as their order was ready.
Andy grabbed the bag and then Provenza's name was called next and after grabbing his bag, they exited the sandwich shop. "Hey! What's going on with you?" Provenza called out to Andy as they walked back to the light to cross the street. "Nothing" Andy answered him but Provenza didn't believe him. "Everything okay between you and the Commander?" he asked him even though he did not want to know the answer. "What? Yes, everything is fine, more than fine between us. In fact," Andy answered but was stopped by Provenza. "Flynn, I don't want to know the details" Provenza told him as they made their way back into the PAB.
"So, what's the deal with asking me if I want to retire?" Provenza asked him as the both showed their badges to the desk at the lobby and then headed over to the elevators. "I've just been thinking, when Sharon got injured, shot and then cut with a knife, I just" he started to tell him but then got quiet when they entered the elevator. "It's normal to think that during those incidents, in fact, Sharon told me the same thing when you were shot" Provenza told him as the doors opened back on the ninth floor. "Yeah, I know she told me" Andy said as they walked back over to their office.
Just as they were entering the office, Agent Morris was exiting the office. "Ah Lieutenants, nice to see you again" he told them as he passed them in the doorway and then he continued to walk towards where they came from. Sharon was standing in the middle of the office as Andy and Provenza made their way inside. "We saw the FBI was here" Provenza quipped as he placed his bag on his desk. "Yes, Lieutenant, he was here picking up the information for their case" Sharon informed him and then walked with Andy towards her office to have their lunch.
