Chapter 1: Lunar New Year
CyberActors15: Greeting mortals and readers alike, my name is CyberActors15 the writer of this nice little remake of Phantoms and Angels. I just wanted to let you know that this story was a commission (REQUEST, commission insinuates that I am being paid for this, which I am not) by Menatron the Angel of Ideas and that this version of the story will be really different from the story that came before. And before we get into the story I wanted to give you a bit of info and insight into this story. On the Avatar spectrum of this story, it's important to note that this story begins during Season 2 of Avatar the Last Airbender. Where exactly won't be relevant until later in the story but for now it is important to note that this story will take place during season two. On the Danny Phantom side of this story, it's important to note that most of the Danny Phantom episodes have occurred save for a few that might have an effect on the story later. Phantom Planet is one of the episodes that has not happened. Additionally there will be some timeline alterations, such as Danny Phantom not being set in 2004, and Danny two years into his Phantom career at the start of this story. There is a reason for this. Now for the disclaimer, I don't own either Danny Phantom or Avatar the Last Airbender. I also don't own the concept of this story. I'm just the writer. What I do own however is any OCs that may or may not appear in the story.

If you were to ask anyone what was significant about this time of year, you wold get a multitude of responses. Many would say Valentine's Day where they get to celebrate with chocolate and romantic partners. Others would say Black History Month, as the celebration of black culture. Others would say snow fall would start coming to a close with the end of winter. And others would talk about the upcoming New Year's celebrations. Not for the traditional end of December start of January new year but one which followed the Lunar Calendar.
Amity Park in particular was preparing for the Lunar New Year. Amity Park like other towns and cities in USA had its own Chinatown, not as big as the one found in New York for example but still beg enough to have an effect on the town. As such there would be a Lunar New Year Festival as well as parties all over the town, each of them celebrating the start of the New Year. The start of the Year of the Dragon.
Walking around Amity Park, many would notice that many Valentine's Day decorations would still be up which only added to the romantic atmosphere which still surrounded the town, however they were being replaced with decorations for the upcoming New Year's Event.
This wave wasn't only hitting the streets and retail stores. It also effected the schools. Casper High in particular had been effected by the excitement for the coming New Year, due in great part to the Chinese and Korean residents of the school, one of which was Kwan, member of the A-Listers group and one of the star football players.
Danny Fenton, 16 year old resident dork and looser was part of the committee that was helping with the taking down of Valentines decorations and putting up of Lunar New Year decorations. It wasn't his ideal way of spending his weekend but hey, at least it was some extra credit as well a nice little delve into cultural knowledge. Sam and Tucker were obviously joining him in his endeavour but they had been assigned elsewhere. Right now he was working with Kwan on putting up the lanterns in the gym.
"Hey Fenton, thanks for your help on this." Kwan said as he held the ladder steady.
Danny at the top off the ladder finished securing the last lantern before sending a smile towards the jock.
"No problem." Danny said.
Kwan had always been the nicer of the Jocks despite being Dash's best friend. And even though he had bullied Danny in the past, the two had recently come to an agreement and a truce of sorts.
It had started about a month or so ago, when Danny and Kwan had been put on the same cultural heritage assignment. Long story short the class, in groups of two, had been given the task of researching their respective cultures and heritages and comparing them and presenting their research, differences and similarities. During that assignment Danny and Kwan were able to somewhat move past their differences and become kind of like friends, or at the very least friendly acquaintances.
It was through learning about Kwan's heritage that would lead Danny to agreeing to help set up for the Year of the Dragon Festival which would be happening in the school. It was actually Kwan that asked Danny to help, much to Danny's surprise.
Kwan held the ladder steady as Danny descended. Although the smaller teen didn't really need it he appreciated the sentiment. Upon landing on the ground the duo marvelled at their handy work. It had taken over and hour but they had placed all the lanterns where they belonged and it looked pretty good. You almost couldn't tell that it was high school students doing this.
With a nod of admiration the two walked off towards the entrance, where Sam and Tucker waited for their friend.
As they approached Kwan suddenly remembered.
"By the way Fenton, I would like to give you three these." Kwan said he handed Danny, Sam and Tucker three invitations all wrapped and red and golden paper. "I wanted to invite you three to my New Year party."
That was a surprise. Much bigger than Kwan inviting Danny to help with the decorations in the first place.
"We may not be the closest friends, but I think you are a little bit cooler than I thought." Kwan said. "It just seems right to invite you to my Party."
"Uh, thanks man." Danny said. "But what about the other A-Listers? Won't they be mad if they see me there?"
"Don't worry about them." Kwan waved him off. "Everyone already thinks the Ghost Boy tends to show up where you show up so as far as they're concerned that's why you will be there so that Danny Phantom shows up as well. And the party is a no bully zone anyway so you three will be fine."
Danny was silent for a moment as he took all of that in.
He could remember a time last year when Paulina invited him over to her QuinceaƱera with that exact reasoning. It was actually kind of weird, and alarming now that he really thought about it, but it was what it was.
"Sure I'll be there." Danny said.
"I'll let you know." Sam said, surprisingly she didn't bear her usual suspicious tone.
"I should be able to make it." Tucker added.
"Thanks." Kwan before he left for Dash and the other footballers who were waiting for him outside of the gym.
The weird trio, as Casper High had dubbed them, stood for a moment thinking about what just happened.
"I'm surprised that just happened." Danny said.
"Right?" Tucker responded almost immediately.
"It makes sense to me I just didn't expect it to happen so soon." Sam noted.
"Excuse me?" Danny asked.
"Come one Danny, you have to admit that you have a way with people. You can bring out the best in people and really make them better." Sam said with a proud smile.
"What? No I don't!" Danny muttered.
"I actually got to agree with Sam on this one." Tucker said. "Look at Valerie, she used to be another Paulina with double the attitude. Now she's got all the attitude but none of the mean. And now Kwan, he isn't as much of a bully anymore, sure he's always been nicer than Dash, but he was still a bully, now he barely bullies any of the other nerds because he hung out with you for a bit."
"You guys are giving me more credit than I deserve." Danny said as he awkwardly rubbed the back of his head. "Those are the only two examples and I didn't do much to help them."
Sam rolled her eyes. Danny's humility was great but it made him so clueless sometimes.
"I would have been and was a much worse person before we met." Sam started listing. "I used to be a full on psycho, now I am just a rebel. Mr Lancer used to be a teacher who favoured the elite students but a few detention sessions with you led to his stance on the school and its treatment of students. My parents used to be militaristic control freaks but a bit of time with you led to them to at least be considerate of what I want."
"Yeah Danny, you have the power to change people." Tucker said. "You can't deny the evidence."
Danny didn't want to believe that he was single-handedly responsible for all that but he decided against arguing. There would be no point in trying to argue this point so he just gave his usual, nervous laugh and changed the subject. Sam and Tucker accepted the change in the subject but they retained their smiles, the ones which showed they were happy to know and proud of their heroic friend. Even if he may not realise how much more of a hero he was than just a superhero.

After the trio had concluded their activities at Casper High, the three decided to partake in their usual activities and head to Nasty Burger with the intention of grabbing their junk food for the day. They felt as if they had earned it after their hard work setting up for the Lunar New Year.
Before they could reach Nasty Burger, however, they were stalled by the sudden yet not unexpected appearance of one of Danny's enemies. They had a habit of showing up at bad times when Danny was ready to relax.
The enemy for the day who had decided to make an appearance was Ember McLain, and it looked like she had come looking for trouble.
"HELLO TEENAGERS OF AMITY PARK!" Ember announced as she projected her voice to the farthest reaches of the area. "I know how much you hate the cold, so I'm here to warm you all right up."
The ghost rocker floated above the Nasty Burger with her entourage of ghostly band mates. Her flaming hair whipped dangerously, insinuating that she had already had quite a bit of a power boost and she was already strumming her guitar, playing her same old melodic tune to try and hypnotise the teenagers that liked to hang around the area.
Danny sighed before chuckling, not to claim that he was looking forward to a fight against his favourite ecto diva, but there were times when he enjoyed these fights and seeing his rivals and enemies. It gave him a strange sense of catharsis.
Without a word to Sam and Tucker, Danny changed into his ghost form and took off into the air. Sam and Tucker smiled watching Phantom fly off and prepared themselves for their role. These past two years of ghost fighting had turned the three into a tight unit and when a ghost came up the two humans would help their half ghost friend in battle. Sure Phantom was more often than not the main fighting force in their group but they had gained some strength, confidence and experience in fighting alongside their super powered friend.
Ember's guitar solo in the song she and her band had started playing was interrupted by a "boo" and a ball of snow shaped as a tomato thrown into her face.
"Excuse me miss this is a no concert zone. I am going to have to ask you vacate the premises." Phantom called out with a cocky grin.
"Dipstick, just the stick in the mud I was waiting for." Ember responded with a challenging smirk.
She didn't hesitate, she strummed a cord and sent a wave of fire towards Phantom. The half ghost hero wasn't fazed by the attack and countered with his own wave of ecto energy that countered the fire and dissipated the attack. His cocky grin didn't falter as he flew closer to Ember with the intention of taking her down. Ember flew towards him with the intention of meeting his challenge.
Ember had to admit, this was why she was here, the fight, she honestly no longer cared about taking over the world. Some time ago she accepted that Danny Phantom was more powerful than her, he did defeat Pariah Dark after all. However it was the fact that he was stronger than her that she tried to fight him. For her it was the thrill of the challenge as well as a chance to improve herself against an enemy that wouldn't waste her if she lost. Phantom was a sparring partner even though he was an enemy. Sure she still wanted to kill him, probably, but there was a level of respect that hadn't been there when they had first clashed two years ago. A good portion of the ghost enemies which Danny had faced off against had developed this respect for the hero and often times came with the intention of facing off against him as opposed to really doing evil. They had changed through their interactions with him.
While Danny and Ember fought in the air, Sam and Tucker moved to their respective positions. Without needing to be told they went and focused down the remaining members of Ember's band and before too long they were all captured inside a Fenton Thermos. Once the others were captured, Danny noticed and started fighting seriously.
His plan had been to distract Ember, so that she wouldn't go back and prevent the capture of her bandmates. Now that they weren't pieces on the board anymore Danny could now put all his attention into bringing Ember down as quickly as possible.
"Sorry Ember, but band practise is over." Phantom said as his eyes began to glow blue and ice collected within his hands. "And it is time for you to chill out."
As opposed to firing the attack in front of Ember where she could easily dodge out of the way, Phantom teleported behind her and with the release of his power froze Ember solid. He waited a few seconds as he pulled out his thermos. He knew what he had to wait for. Before the frozen diva could fall to the ground the ice cracked and Ember broke free from her confinement and with that Danny uncapped the Fenton Thermos and captured Ember.
Danny then floated down to the ground happy with being able to handle that quickly. He knew that Ember would have to expend a bit of energy to break out of his freeze trap. That would ensure that she wouldn't try and force herself out of the thermos as well as ensure that she wasn't frozen while crammed inside.
He looked back at Sam and Tucker as they approached, both also looking content with a job well down.
"Still up for Nasty Burger?" Danny asked only to be met with nods.

"Fenton, Manson, Foley, thanks for making it." Kwan greeted the three at the elevator.
The elevator doors were at the far end of the penthouse, in which Kwan lived. Yes Kwan like the other A-listers was stupid rich and as a result he lived in the top floor(s) of a hotel in Chinatown. The penthouse was by all means a modern apartment, with a major Chinese aesthetic. It was technically two stories and had balconies on three of the four sides of the penthouse. One of those balconies apparently had a pool which was heated in case anyone wanted to swim in this cold weather. At the current moment there were a lot of year of the dragon decorations lining the walls and ceiling of the apartment. Inside the apartment were a lot of teenagers, members of the football team and cheerleaders alike, even a few who weren't necessarily A-Listers or sports people like Danny Sam and Tucker. There were also a lot of entrees and food tables.
"Thanks for inviting us." Danny said.
"You guys can hang around wherever on the first floor." Kwan said. "There's food and drinks and a few games if you want to play. Also we'll be able to see the parade from up here so you don't need to worry."
The three friends made their way inside. Despite their status in the school they weren't met with scorn for being at this party. They were surprisingly left alone for the most part, even by Dash and Paulina had decided to appear civil for the day. Valerie was also at the party and whenever she wasn't speaking with Star she would naturally gravitate towards Danny and his friends.
Sam who was typically openly hostile towards Valerie decided to take a page from Paulina's book and be civil with the huntress, much to the relief of Danny and Tucker.
There was a moment within the second hour of being at the party which did turn into a bit of a competition between Danny and Dash. There was a pool table and the star quarterback challenged Danny to a game. However as it turned out both of them were terrible at the game and couldn't succeed at the game. However Sam and Paulina also started competing and for some unknown reason they were equally incredibly skilled at the game. Sam won in the end but Paulina gave her a good fight. It was actually kind of fun competing with the A-Listers without the mutual hatred of each other.
It was close to midnight when Danny, Sam and Tucker found themselves on one of the balconies overlooking the street down below. The parade would be starting soon.
"You know I'm actually happy we came today." Tucker said. "Tonight has actually been fun."
"I honestly thought I would hate it but this was good." Sam said. "I guess I forgot that they can be decent people when they want to be. I wouldn't mind doing this again."
"Oh, Sam wouldn't mind doing a social event with A-listers again." Danny commented. "The world must be ending."
Tucker only chuckled as Sam punched Danny in the arm. But even then there wasn't any actually annoyance or anger behind the punch. The three returned to a moment of silence as they enjoyed the cool night-time air.
"Hey guys look." Danny said.
There was a bit of snow falling from the sky, not enough that it would ruin the festivities however. It wasn't every day that snow fell in Amity Park especially this close to the end of winter but it was still something to be appreciated.
However the appreciation of the snow didn't last long. As if to contrast the snow the sound of ignition was herd and an explosion, not in the penthouse but down the street, went off.
Danny didn't hesitate. He made sure no one was looking in his direction and without a shred of hesitation he jumped off the railing, changed into Phantom and flew in the direction of the explosion.
"Danny should we follow?" Sam's voice came through the Fenton Phones Danny had equipped in his ears.
"No it's alright. Just cover for me. I'll check to see what happened and if anyone needs my help." Phantom responded as he flew towards the source of the explosion.
His ghost sense hadn't gone off so hopefully it was an easy problem to fix.
It took him approximately half a minute to arrive on the scene where he spotted a small warehouse was burning. A quick glance at the scene told him that this was the starting point for the parade. It looked like everyone had cleared out and were about to start but he wasn't sure if there were people inside the burning building.
Acting quickly Phantom placed a wall of ice between the warehouse and the others so that the fire wouldn't spread. Once it was contained he flew in. Although it was true that he could flash freeze the entire building and put an end to the fire like that, he didn't want to risk freezing anyone who might be in there.
The warehouse seemed to contain a whole bunch of props for the parade that weren't being used based on the fact that they were inside, one of which included a half made Danny Phantom float and a Dragon float. Based on the melting canisters that were on the Phantom float, Phantom assumed that something had gone wrong and helium had exploded causing this mess.
The cause wasn't important right now. Finding any people trapped inside was the concern and the smoke was growing thick meaning that breathing wouldn't be easy for a normal human. Phantom made his eyes glow a brighter green so that he could see through the smoke. His physiology made it so that he could easily survive this area, so long as he didn't over heat he would be fine.
He wasn't hearing any screams or cry for help, that could possibly mean that someone was unconscious, and he didn't see anyone either. However three figures, young and feminine in shape saw him and prepared to attack.
Now Danny Phantom was a man of science, having been raised by two scientists. Sure he had started to accept that magic exists, but never anything such as fate. But at this moment, when it snowed in the city of Amity Park and a fire came to life, where the half dead boy would meet the girl whose family learnt their power from the dragons, it could be debated that fate existed.
Stepping forth from behind the flames, confident and poised, the princess let out a breath and with two fingers extended fired a stream of blue fire at her target. As the clock struck midnight and the Year of the Dragon began, Phantom was hit by the attack that he didn't see coming and sent to the ground.
The attack wasn't enough to kill him, but it did hurt. Phantom rose back into the air looking for his attacker and was surprised to find a human girl, dressed in red and black armour of Asian inspiration and wearing what appeared to be a dragon's mask. She was flanked by two other girls, each wearing their own dragon mask and their own variation of red Asian inspired clothing, one in clothes clearly designed for flexibility and the other with a darker fashion sense.
The Princess simply motioned towards him prompting the Acrobat to rush forward and the Noble to pull out blades from her sleeve and flank around him.
The Acrobat reached Phantom first and aimed a few targeted strikes towards his arm. Phantom instinctively went intangible but that didn't work, the first few strikes landed and Phantom had to back pedal to get out of the effective range of the girl, however the damage had already been done. His arm wouldn't move.
"What did you do to me?!" Phantom demanded clutching his arm. His eyes narrowed as he wondered how the girl had been able to hit him. The thought occurred to him instantly when he noticed that she wore a small Spector Deflector around we waist. It wasn't one of his parents, but the design was similar enough.
The Noble now having flanked to the side of Phantom threw her knives. Phantom noticed the knives had a subtle glow. They were definitely weapons made for hurting ghosts. However with his arm still unresponsive and the fact that he was shaken by the surprise attack the blades managed to hit him in his other arm. They weren't thrown with enough force to do too much damage, but they did sting before falling down to the ground.
The Noble tossed more knives his way but this time Danny was prepared. With his still working arm he sent a wave of ecto energy to push back the attack as well as deter any further attacks. The princess stepped forth again taking another graceful stance.
Her actions were without a doubt the most surprising of the three. Now Phantom had seen a lot during his time as a superhero ghost hunter and he had grown a lot during his time as well. So much so that he could detect ghosts with far greater accuracy than before. From the girl in front of him he couldn't detect anything ghostly, which is why when a stream of blue fire erupted from her hands in a manner similar to his own ecto blasts, he was too stunned to do anything save for taking the hit in his chest. This fire burned, it was far hotter than Danny had ever experienced.
This wasn't like Ember's flames, which were blue only in colour, no these flames were actually hot enough that the flames were blue and that didn't sit well with his ghost core.
Phantom fell to the floor panting. It hurt a lot but it definitely wasn't enough to kill him, but it was enough to stress him out.
Phantom's eyes began to glow blue, best way to counteract the flames was with the cold and so unleash the cold he did.
"Get away from me!" Phantom yelled as cyrokinetic energy burst forth from his body in a massive explosion of cold. All the flames in the room were stuffed instantly and every surface was covered in a layer of frost. It was also snowing in the warehouse now.
Phantom stood from his position after a moment, finally feeling had returned to his arm. To his surprise however the warehouse was empty, his three mystery attackers had vanished and Danny hadn't so much as learned anything about them.
"Rude." Danny called out as if they were still listening. "You could have at least given me your names!"
Despite his light hearted poking at the situation, Danny was surprised. He didn't expect to see a human with powers that weren't ghostly in nature. But that girl with the fire she was something else. And Danny couldn't help but feel like this was far from over.
CyberActors15: And there is a first chapter of Year of the Dragon. So far I like this way more than the first chapter of the original story, so hopefully you readers will like this one too.
Dani: I think it's better.
CyberActors15: Thanks but you are paid to say that so your opinion doesn't really matter in the long run.
Dani: Rude!
Katara: That was rude of you to say.
CyberActors15: Meh, it is what it is. So readers the plan for this fanfiction is to try and release a new chapter every week. I honestly believe that I will be able to do it, but you never know what might happen during these trying times.
Dani: Well with that shaky promise out in the air, what will happen next? Read, Review, Favourite and Follow to find out.
