The rush of information nearly overwhelmed her as she mimicked a rock being dropped off a cliff.
Nova watched as the aircraft began to fire at Loki.
Loki responded with a shot from his spear.
The scream tore from her lungs, anger burning in her chest.
She closed her eyes and focused, feeling the wind wrap around her arms and legs, forcing its way through her neat bun as she felt herself being slowed until she halted midair.
The wind supported her body, preventing a premature death.
Nova turned her head back towards the aircraft, her lab coat flapping in the wind ripping back and forth like a flag.
It was struggling to stay in the air, weaving back and forth trying to avoid hitting buildings.
If what that man said was true-
Her feet touched the ground and she was running.
She weaved her way through the running crowds, shedding her lab coat and allowing the wind to gather around her fingers.
Enemy behind. The image of an alien... thing levelling a gun at her back flashed in her head.
Nova glanced behind her and ducked behind an overturned car, barely dodging the blast that hit where she was standing a moment before.
She winced at the rubble that shredded the delicate skin of her forearms.
Lips pursed in concentration, she launched all of the wind she had gathered at the weird blue alien person before grabbing the spear and running.
Each glimpse of information the wind provided gave her only mere moments of warning.
The hair on her arms raised higher, if that were possible, and she looked up.
This is it. This is the end of the world. Nova paled, seeing a large floating whale exit that damned hole in the sky.
Nova watched as civilians retaliated on aliens on foot with curses and war cries.
She rushed forward and assisted the group as the aliens broke the line, funneling wind as she pushed the aliens back.
"Woah."
Nova flushed, glancing behind her at the gaping group.
"Keep it up! Don't let them get to other people!"
The crowd gave her varying levels of excited grins, lunging at the dazed aliens.
Shivering, Nova clenched and unclenched her fists, gauging the stiffness of her joints before taking off once again towards where she had last seen the aircraft.
Opening herself up to the wind was risky, but it was a risk that Nova had to take.
She pushed forward as best she could while being shot at.
She was grateful for her gift keeping her from getting into danger.
Nova felt her phone buzz in her pocket, and she ducked into an alcove and answered.
"Megan! Where are you!?" Her brother, Travis, demanded.
"Where do you think?!"
"What are you still doing in Manhattan?! Get out of there!"
"Trying to save the world, duh!" Nova exclaimed.
There was a pause and Nova could hear Travis cursing her out before addressing her again.
"Be careful, Novalie, don't lose an arm, alright? Or I'll beat your ass for mom."
Nova winced, recalling the wrath of their mother.
"Noted."
"Good luck."
"Thanks."
With that, her brother hung up.
Nova stumbled back onto the streets, yelping as a shot singed her bicep.
Focusing, she manipulated the wind to whirl around her as she jumped, launching herself into the air, assisted by the lift of the wind.
She zipped through the air, weaving through the buildings.
Nova was so focused on her objective that she didn't realize that Loki was gaining on her.
She looked back as the wind screamed its warnings at her, banking to the right.
She screamed as something red snatched her out of the air.
