My first fanfiction in years… I remember when I first started these. Have I gotten better, that's up to all of you to decide. And thank you, Gold… I never would've had these stories happen if it wasn't for you.

All Portal Masters belong to their respective owners, Skylanders and Overwatch belong to Activision, Blizzard. Enjoy reading.

A Light Breeze

Ei is sleeping calmly within his room in Watchpoint: Gibraltar. Things are calm on his earth, luckily. However, some things still cloud his mind. The state of his home here on earth, his brother-in-arms, Daniel. He misses his family deeply. Echo, Note, Symphony, Harmony… They're going to turn a whole year old at this point… It seems crazy to him between how much time passed from seeing his real home in Overwatch and the home he made in Skylands. As the light of the sun lights the darkness of his eyelids, he lifts them up to reveal his window welcoming the rays.

Jumping out of bed, he yawns and scratches his head of shoulder-length hair. Ei looks towards the horizon and smiles, leaning his head on the windowsill and holding his hand out towards the sun. It makes him feel nice… His thoughts are interrupted by hearing his portal humming its iconic ambience. Clearly, he was being contacted. This early, however? Ei grabs the portal and taps his middle finger on it to reveal a hologram.

"This is Portal Master X speaking." His voice is groggy, but it's better than having none. Behind the hologram is none other than the Water Dragon herself. "Oh. Hey, honey."

"Good morning. How's your second day off at home?"

"Could be going better. Reinhardt's not letting up with that snoring of his, but that's nothing new. How're the kids?"

Echo is happy that the Water/Dark/Air Portal Master thinks of his kids before anything else. It makes her sleep better at night knowing that he thinks of them all the time.

"They're fine. Although, I'm not so sure about Note. He's shading already."

"I wouldn't worry, Echo. He's growing up faster than we can realise."

"I know you're right. So… when should we expect your return?"

"In a few–"

Intruder Alert! Intruder Alert!

Ei awkwardly turns to the portal before grabbing his gown. "I'll… uh… I'll call you back, hun. Talk later!"

Turning the portal off, Ei rushes down to the lobby soon after to see what the commotion is. Talon? Thieves? There has to be a reason, unless it's ATHENA going off for no reason. After all, no AI is truly perfect. He turns off the alarm and turns on the cameras to check outside. However, it isn't Talon or thieves. No bad people, really. It's Ei's cousin, along with her parents.

"Suki?"

Suki turns to the camera and waves with enthusiasm. "Hey, cous'! You really need to get ATHENA sorted out."

"I'm more surprised that you just decided to show up. Surely, you didn't come here all the way from Japan."

The Japanese girl taps her chin before chuckling to herself. She thinks her cousin is being a bit overdramatic, but since he had to get up at an early hour, it makes sense he would be a tad annoyed. Ei presses a button and the doors to the watchpoint are opened up. Suki skates into the watchpoint to hug her cousin.

"How've you been?"

"I've been alright. The others should still be sleeping since they pretty much put me on alarm duty. So, consider yourself lucky that you're not being bombarded by a bunch of Overwatch heroes."

"We can definitely get behind that, Ei." said the skater's mother, Ayona. Ei nods in agreement with her statement.

"Let's head up to your room, Ei."

Before he can argue, Suki takes the Portal Master up to his room with a huge grin on her face. Ei holds his head from the sudden speed and regains himself.

"Okay, Suki, just… slow down. You don't want to break your vertebrae implant."

Suki looks behind herself before looking back and sitting down. She knows he's right but it feels so fun to move fast.

"I know you don't want to see me in a wheelchair again, but I'm completely fine, Ei. Trust me."

"I do, Suki, but you need to start taking your safety a little more seriously."

As the exchange begins to develop, the two hear the door to Ei's room slowly open. The culprit of opening the door is a woman with a very humble face behind a pair of glasses. Suki smiles and hugs the rather cuddly woman.

"Aunt Mei!"

Mei slightly giggles and hugs her niece. "Hello, Suki. It's great to see you. Did you have an alright time getting here?"

"Wait, mum, you knew Suki was coming?"

Mei can only make a cheeky smile at her confused son, making Suki smile as a result.

"Okay, so I may have not told you that your cousin was coming to visit, but I wanted to let your return from Skylands be a surprise. So… surprise!"

Ei smiles. He can't be mad at his own mother for trying. Besides, it's not like he doesn't like Suki being around. This is certainly a good start to the day for him anyway. Being in a point on a cliff near the horizon is nice, but with nobody other than Brigitte to really have fun with throughout the days, his cousin being there certainly lightened things. Speaking of lightening things up, his portal lights up in different colours. That could only mean…

"Anyway, I'll leave you two to enjoy yourselves. I'll be sure to make you that cocoa."

Ei nods in agreement. "Thanks, mum."

And with that, the Chinesewoman leaves the two alone in the room. Suki almost immediately takes note of the portal lighting up like a dog hearing the faintest noise.

"Hey, Ei, is your portal supposed to be making those gestures?"

"Not regularly, but it could be a special occasion." Ei gets up and takes hold of the portal, seeing the strange activity emitting from the sentient object. Suki reaches out and takes hold of it as well, watching the spiralling light from the portal.

"What's it doing?"

"Well… I think it's about time that the portal wanted you to see my line of work. The duty of a Portal Master is more than summoning Skylanders into the real world and taking care of a portal. It's a title we wear to make sure that we uphold the legacy of what these characters stand for."

Ei reaches into his bag, pulling out a figure of Zap in his Series 2 counterpart. The orange base and the ruby red air tanks showing evidence to it. Suki takes hold of Zap and smiles.

"Wow… I remember when you'd say that people would find figures for these guys so that they would come when Portal Masters would call. They don't do that anymore, do they?"

Ei shook his head with a small amount of frustration. "No…"

"I thought so. They're hard to come by these days. I remember some exclusives here in Japan, but…"

"Suki, listen to me, the portal's doing this because it sees potential. I don't want you to freak out, okay?"

Suki looks around the room before nodding to her cousin.

"The portal only does this when it thinks it sees potential in somebody. And that means… you could possibly–"

"I could become a Portal Master?!"

"Not so loud, but yes. There's a chance that you could possibly become a Portal Master. If you choose to go through with it - and you probably will - you'll be taken to Skylands."

Suki's eyes start to twinkle. She quickly writes a note and then does little hops in place. Ei knows that she can't contain her energy, so he takes her hand and steps on the portal. Soon enough, they disappear from Ei's room and find themselves travelling through the wormhole that would usually be seen in Trap Team. Suki is living the dream! Or… is she still dreaming? They make their way to the end of the wormhole, landing in the middle of an arena.

"Whoa… Ei, where are we?"

"Skylanders Academy." the Portal Master smiles.

"Holy crap…"

Suki looks around in disbelief as the Portal Masters begin to show themselves. And after the Portal Masters, the Skylanders. Suki holds Ei's hand and swallows.

"Ei… what's going on?"

"It's okay, Suki. This is the Element Grid. This is where newly recruited Portal Masters are assigned their element. If you're lucky - like I was - you could get duality."

At that moment, the other Portal Masters come down to greet the two. Crystal is the first one to walk up to them and make her signature smile.

"Hi!" The Life Ninja waves.

"Hi."

Ei steps forward. "Everybody, I know I never mentioned this before, but this is my cousin. Her name is Suki."

"This is so awesome… This is your team? This is crazy! Okay… Which one of you is the leader?"

Rachel raises her hand and walks forward. "I am, amiga."

"Oh, you're hispanic. Okay, uh… Hola, mi nombre es Suki. Let's see…" The Japanese girl scratches her head. "Hmm… Estoy muy contenta de estar aqui."

Rachel is taken aback by the girl's fluent knowledge in Spanish. Jamie leans into her ear soon after.

"She's good."

Rachel nods and shakes Suki's hand. "Don't be shy. If you wish to be a Portal Master, all you need to do is have an element choose you."

"An… element choose me?"

Ei pats her shoulders and holds her close. "Yeah, an element chooses you, Suki. Not the other way around. If you don't get an element you don't want, don't stress about it. You can always try to gain a new element through triumph."

"Wow… Okay…"

Suki gets to the centre of the Grid, seeing all ten element icons lighting up in separate groups. Every skylander of that element stood within the stands of the arena while assorted into the element they are. Suki looks towards the water element, skating towards it. Her heart feels heavy, but it isn't weighing her down. As she gets closer to the element, she sees the skylanders of the water element looking down at her. Not condescending, but hopeful. The one that catches her attention the most is Zap. Suki looks at the icon and holds her hands towards it before it goes blank and falls to the ground.

"Oh… Wh-What happened?"

Ei looks towards the next element and looks back. "The water element didn't choose you. It's okay."

Suki is seen to be disappointed. How could she not? She felt happy, but now she feels sad. However, this isn't going to stop her. She goes towards the magic element, but the sparks immediately fade as she gets close. The look of frustration overtook disappointment, but Spyro made sure to fly up to her.

"Hey, don't sweat it. There's always a chance."

"...The dragon just spoke…"

Suki slowly turns to Ei with her eyes threatening to pop out of their sockets. Ei grins and slightly chuckles.

"All of the Skylanders talk, cous'. Focus on the current affair."

Life, Undead, Tech, Dark; the elements reject her. Some of the skylanders seem disappointed to not have another Portal Master on their team either. Suki thinks that she should just give up. However, one element has other plans. As she moves past the light yellow sun icon illuminating with life, it shines brighter in her presence. At the sight of this, Spotlight and Solaceon lean forward in temptation as Suki looks back to see the light pulling her in. Amelia even has a small look. Can it be that another Light Portal Master is among them? Suki slowly goes over to the Light Icon and takes hold of it before it floats out of her hand and slams down onto the ground. The very blast of light emitted can be enough to cause a small supernova.

When the light dies down, Suki looks to see that the Light icon is still retaining its illumination. Suki gasps at the sight before seeing that she has a light element badge in her hand. She turns to Ei and squeals with glee.

"I'M PART OF THE LIGHT ELEMENT!"

The arena erupts with noise of cheering skylanders. The Light Skylanders come down from the stands and gather around Suki. Spotlight walks up to her and smiles.

"Hello, Suki. It's great to meet you. Welcome to the Light Element."

"It's a pleasure to always have more allies on our side." The Trap Master called Knight Light added. Suki can easily see him smiling under his mask.

Ei claps his hands as he watches his cousin revel in the joy that she's feeling. However, something strange is happening. The arena should be turning off by now, but it isn't. Ei puts his fingers in his mouth and whistles loudly for everybody's attention.

"Everyone, I understand that we're very happy for my cousin, but there's something we're not seeing. The arena is still up! I think my cousin may have duality!"

This catches everybody's attention and they go back to their seats except for the Light Elementals. Suki looks towards the remaining elements with glee to see which one she could have. Air, Fire, and Earth is all that's left. She walks up to fire, but the flames die before she can claim them. All that's left is Air and Earth. She reaches her hand out to the Earth Element… and the rock becomes rubble. The winds become a tempest. Suki looks towards the Air Element and grabs it. The icon slams down and a gust of wind almost blows everybody away. Once the storm calms, another cheer from the skylanders rings out. It's official; Suki is a Light/Air Portal Master.

"Well done, Suki!" Ei hugs her from behind and lifts her up. Suki laughs with joy as she's put down. As the others surround her, Ei steps back. He crosses his arms with a proud look on his face. As he does so, he gets a call from Mei.

The other Portal Masters congratulate the Japanese girl for her new assignment. It's as if she's made a dream come true.

"Hey, guys, does this mean I can join your team?"

Suki feels as if she's about to cry, but Ei quickly comes in to stop her.

"Suki, we gotta go. Mum's brewed that cocoa we wanted." Ei looks towards the others and coughs awkwardly. "Sorry to cut this short, but my mum's waiting for us."

"We'll be back, right?"

"Of course, Suki. No worries, you hear?"

Suki nods and takes his hand. Ei salutes to the other Portal Master as they both teleport back to Ei's room.

"Did I miss anything?"

Everybody turns their attention to Master Eon on his podium with a book in hand as he looks around awkwardly. Ei and Suki find themselves back in his room with Mei on the bed with some cutely designed china mugs.

"Thank you for coming back. Wouldn't want this to go cold."

Mei places the mugs down and Ei sighs in relief at the chocolate scent rising from the mug. With a peck on the cheek from his mother, Ei grabs his mug and leans back in his chair. Suki smiles and steps back to let Mei go out of the room.

"So… how d'ya feel, cous'?"

"I feel amazing. I just hope I can live up to being a Portal Master like the rest of you."

"Don't worry." Ei takes a sip of the chocolate. "You'll do fine. I can help."

"So, go with the flow. Like a light breeze." Suki grins, taking a sip from her mug.

It's as sweet as the feeling she got, and she can't ask for anything more.
