Hanging On The Edge-Ch 22
As Reid read him his rights he couldn't keep his eyes off of Penelope, he was so close to getting and having everything he'd ever wanted in life, he was so close but lost because of the FBI and one stupid member of a mountain rescue squad. Derek climbed out of the car and then helped his baby girl out, as they all stood there looking at the man she said, "you, you look so familiar to me for some reason", the man grinned and said, "I should" causing everybody to look at the unsub and Penelope.
Derek wrapped an arm around his girlfriend's waist and said, "how do you know her?", the man grinned and said, "I was once a member of her survivor support group", Penelope's eyes widened and she said, "Marcus Hinder?", he said, "I'm honored that youi remember me Penelope, it's been a while". She said, "why, why are you doing t his to innocent people?", he said, "innocent people, they aren't innocent, my wife, now, she was innocent but her life was taken in an instant, she's gone forever and it's all because of people like I caused the accidents for".
Penelope said, "like the people that you hurt, they didn't have anything to do with Allison's death, they were innocent just like her", he shook his head and said, "that's what I like about you Penelope, you're heart is so pure, in many ways you remind me of her". Derek said, "so that's why you wanted her right, it's because she reminded you of your wife?", he looked down at the road and said, "yes, yes it is, I wanted to have my life back with Allison but not being able to have that, I wanted the next best thing and that is a life with Penelope".
Dave said, "son you can see that you aren't going to get that life with Penelope, right?", he said, "yeah, I saw the fake new article announcing their engagement", Derek said, "oh that isn't fake, we are getting married and as far as I'm concerned the sooner the better". Penelope nodded her head in agreement and said, "I totally agree handsome, because if there is one thing that I've learned doing this job is that tomorrow isn't promised so we should live each day to the fullest".
JJ and Emily smiled and said, "exactly" in unison", Hotch said, "we'll take him in, you guys go ahead and get back to the BAU", they nodded their heads and Hotch looked at Derek and said, "you've got the eye of a profiler, ever thing about changing professions?", Derek laughed and said, "seriously, me, FBI, I don't think that I would fit in, I'm nothing like you guys", he quickly said, "no offense meant of course", they all laughed and Dave said, "none taken son, none taken but I think you're wrong, you're exactly like us, maybe you should give it some thought?", Derek nodded his head and said, "I'll think about it".
Reid said, "I for one think that oyu would make an amazing FBI agent, you have the intelligence, the skill and the know how to do what we do", Penelope grinned and said, "I couldn't have said it better myself boy wonder" causing Derek to grin as he pulled his girlfriend into his arms and kissed her lips gently. When they pulled apart she said, "how about you and I have a little talk tonight?", he said, "sure, but what about?", she said, "about us getting married", his heart started racing, he said, "w w what about us getting married, you haven't changed your mind have you?", she laughed and said, "no my love, I haven't changed my mind, I want to get married soon and the sooner the better".
Marcus weakly smiled and said, "it's obvious that the two of you are in love, don't waste time, if you can be together, then please be together, don't take any chances and lose the love of your lives like I did", the couple looked at him and Derek said, "you're right Marcus, you are absolutely right".. The team stood there watching as Reid and Hotch loaded the unsub into the back of one of the SUV's and pulled away, Derek said, "how about we all meet at ma's tonight, that way we can get all of the arrangements taken care of because I don't want to wait any longer than I absolutely have too to make you my wife", she grinned and said, "I agree, I agree".
"Later that evening everybody was sitting around Fran's dining room table, they had decided that they would get married in Fran's backyard, everything was so beautiful with the trees and flowers, it was like a small paradise and what better place to start their lives together than there. Dave had already talked to a judge and got their marriage certificate and Hotch called in a few favors and was able to get a minister, Penelope would wear a beautiful white dress that she had just bought, nothing to fancy but it was casual and comfortable and that along with Derek and her team was all that she needed.
Fran said ,"this case was hard on all of you, especially you Penelope and now that it's over you can focus on your life together with my son", Penelope nodded her head and said, "I love your son with all of my heart and I can't wait to become Mrs. Penelope Morgan". Derek smiled as he intertwined fingers with her and said, "I can't wait for that either", he leaned in and kissed her lips gently and when they pulled apart Reid said, "get a roommmmm" causing everybody to burst out laughing, filling the room with the wonderful sound that it soooooo needed after the last couple of months.
