Kyle woke up with Kate's head on his chest.

"Trying to steal my girl sergeant?"

Kyle jumped slightly looking at John, who looked better than when he was brought in but still looked like he was not getting out of the hospital for a while.

"Never sir." Kyle whispered, trying to move but Kate had him in a death grip.

John smirked slightly, Kyle saw this.

"What?"

"I was joking with you. I know Kate is the closest thing to a mother to you and Farah."

"She is. After admitting to that I must also admit that you're the closest to a father we've ever had."

John gave him a nod of acknowledgment and then looked at Kate.

"Is she okay? She hasn't been herself for a while. The week before I was taken she was barely eating, feeling or being sick a lot, and acting a little weirdly."

"As okay as you would be, given your… relationship and what has happened." Kyle gave him a knowing look.

"Who else knows?"

"Everyone according to Ghost, but she doesn't know. She thinks only Farah and I know." Kyle said, putting a hand on her shoulder gently waking her up.

"Don't."

"She threatened to kick my ass if I didn't wake her as soon as you woke up. I think she meant it and she can do me more damage than you can at the moment, Sir." He said as he woke her up.

"What?" Kate asked, sleepily looking up at him.

"He's awake." Kyle nodded his head toward John.

Kate looked over, John smiled at her as she jumped up running to him and crawling in beside him. He wrapped his arms around her as she laid her head on his chest and cried. Kyle smiled as John breathed in her hair and kissed her head. Kyle walked over, John looked up mouthing 'thank you'.

"I'll be back later, you two have things to talk about." He shook John's hand and Kate leaned up hugging him.

"Thanks for staying with me." She whispered in his ear.

"No problem, love you guys." He whispered.

He hoped that everything worked out for them, they deserved it. He realized that he loved and respected them in equal measure. After Kyle closed the door, Kate looked at John, laying her head back on his chest.

"What things?"

"Hmm?" Kate buried her face in his chest, trying to avoid the question.

"Kyle said we had things to talk about."

Kate sat up looking at him, afraid of his reaction. SAS Captain John Price had been shot up, captured, blown up, tortured, abandoned, and left for dead. He had served his country for 18 years. He'd missed out on so much whilst he served his country, he should be happy to be a father for the first time, she thought. He's lost more in his 37 years of being on this earth than most lose in a lifetime. She took the ultrasound out of her pocket, were they really doing this? Her stomach was in knots as she held the picture out to him.

"Kate, what's going on?" He asked, looking confused.

She sat on the edge of the bed, handing it to him. He took it from her and went pale as he looked at it, taking a shaky breath he looked away from it and her. He dropped the picture in the process, Kate took the reaction as a sign of rejection and went to stand up. John felt the weight on the bed shift, he quickly grabbed her hand before she stood.

"Hey look at me." He whispered.

Kate looked at him, tears running down her face. He wiped away most of them, holding her face close to his and looking her in the eye.

"I love you, I'm sorry for the way I reacted." He whispered.

"Why?"

"Did I react that way?"

Kate nodded her head. John was not ready for this, but when would he be?

"Uh, you know that closet at home? I said I locked it up and lost the key for it but it was too small to do anything with?"

"Yeah." Kate whispered, looking curiously at him.

"And you kept asking me how I know so much about Makarov?"

"And you told me."

"Well… The second encounter I had with him, yes, but not the first time in 2010 what he did to me personally."

"Which was?"

"He with Konni….. murdered my….first wife Lena and our 5-month-old daughter Sarah. He was the reason I was captured and held in prison until the team rescued me yesterday."

Kate was shocked, she had told him about how her wife and son had died in a car crash, and she never expected him to keep this from her or the team after telling him and the rest of 141 about the Ultra-nationalists group and Makarov. She wouldn't be surprised if the rest of 141 knew about his family given the way they all reacted to the picture of Makarov.

"38-19 So you were what 19?"

John nodded.

"Both of us were. Does anyone on the task force know?"

"Ghost and now you are the only ones who know my full background with Makarov. Kyle and Soap just know I've hunted him in Verdansk but obviously, he got away both times."

Kate now understood a lot more about the way Price and his team reacted to the photo a lot more and the way he treated his team. He could be a hard ass and blow up on them but he was afraid of losing them. He had already lost essentially everything, he didn't want to chance losing anyone else if he could help it. They both lay there until Kate broke the silence.

"I understand you on a whole new level now. I knew you cared a lot for your team, but I didn't think it was because you lost your family at such a young age that you made this task force including Nik, Farah, and I."

John didn't say anything, just looked out the window.
