Chapter Eight: Back Home

"Elsa! You're back!"

Even before Elsa could open her eyes again, Anna's voice reached her ears. Elsa looked around, glad that she had successfully managed to travel with floo powder and was once again in her sister's pink bedroom.

She held back a giggle when she noticed that the toys they were playing with earlier were still lying on the floor. The toy chest was still half open. Typical, messy Anna. Her room wouldn't be her room if there weren't multiple tripping hazards on the floor. Elsa's room though, was as neat as can be. Not a single item was out of place at all times.

"You bought pets!" Anna exclaimed, giving her sister a big hug, then gleefully took both of the cages. "Did Mama and Papa say it was okay?"

Laughing, Elsa retrieved Khione's cage from her sister's grasp and held her hand. "Well I just got back, haven't I," she said. "Let's go ask them if we can keep the pets now. I'm sure they won't mind."

Grinning, Anna held her sister's hand tightly and ran, leading her to their father's study, where the king and queen were.

Thankfully, King Agnaar and Queen Iduna were not mad at Elsa for buying two animals, to Elsa's joy. Instead, they were glad that Anna would have another playmate while Elsa went to Hogwarts.

Anna, meanwhile, was ecstatic when she learned that she was going to own an owl. She leapt up with joy and gave Elsa another giant hug. She was even happier when she learnt that she could send messages to Elsa through her new owl. Of course, the King and Queen gave Elsa and Anna a stern talking to about the responsibilities of owning a pet. Both sisters swore to take good care of their animal friends.

"What should I name her, Elsa?" Anna asked. They were back in Anna's room. "I'm not good at thinking about names." The brown owl was perched on her extended arm, while Anna's free hand stroked its chin.

Elsa looked up from stroking Khione and studied the small brown owl. If her fox was named after a Greek goddess, it's only fitting that Anna's pet was named after another goddess, right?

"What about Hestia?" Elsa suggested, reaching out a hand to pat the owl's head.

Anna cocked her head to the side and thought. While the younger princess didn't read as much as her sister, or share her love for Greek mythology, she was familiar with the 12 main Olympian gods and goddesses. Hestia was the goddess of hearth and fire.

"What do you say, girl?" Anna asked her owl, who was perched on her arm. "Do you like Hestia?" The owl hooted as if agreeing with the choice. "Hestia it is then!" said Anna. "What else did you bring back Elsa?"

Elsa reached into her bag. Out came a stack of heavy books. She reached in again and pulled out three school robes. Then she pulled out a cauldron. She repeated the process until the bag was finally empty.

Anna's eyes were wide and her jaw was almost on the floor. Chuckling, Elsa explained how Professor McGonagall had given her a magical bottomless bag to put her things in. She let Anna try putting some things in, and then taking them out.

When Elsa handed her sister a chocolate frog though, Anna's eyes grew even wider, something that Elsa wasn't sure was possible. However, she stopped Anna from opening the box immediately.

"Professor McGonagall told me to eat the frog in a room with closed doors and windows," she said, closing the bedroom door. "Not sure why though."

After making sure that the room was sealed, Elsa allowed Anna to open her chocolate frog. To their surprise, the brown frog leapt out of the box immediately and landed next to the toy chest.

"Come back! Catch that frog!" shouted Anna, determined to not let perfectly good chocolate go to waste. Lucky for her, after that first, giant jump, the frog seemed to slow down. It only managed tiny hops and moved less than a centimetre.

Anna grabbed her precious chocolate frog and went back to her sister. "So that's why Professor told me to close the windows and doors," muttered Elsa. Suddenly the professor's cryptic warning made a lot of sense. She briefly wondered what would happen if the frog had successfully jumped out the window. Would it hit the ground and shatter upon impact? Or would it melt under the hot sun eventually?

She laughed when she saw Anna. Her mouth and hands were covered in chocolate. There was even some chocolate on her dress. At least the maids have experience in getting chocolate stains out of clothing, thought Elsa.

It was quite a well-known fact in the castle that the royal sisters loved chocolate. It was an even more well-known fact that Anna wasn't the most tidy. Elsa, on the other hand, always made sure to not make a mess out of anything.

Anna licked the chocolate off her fingers, then started to ask Elsa a million questions about Diagon Alley. "Did you see more magic? What was the street like? Was the professor nice? What other animals did you see? How did you appear in the fireplace just now?"

She asked Elsa question after question, and Elsa happily answered them all. She described in detail what Diagon Alley was like, how Gringotts had interesting architecture, and how she caused quite a mess at Ollivanders. Well, little was an understatement.

Elsa loved how Anna's eyes would light up when she mentioned something particularly magical, like how the entrance to Diagon Alley was concealed behind magical bricks, or how the books in the bookshop would fly.

Looking at her sister's face which shone with curiosity and wonder, Elsa realised how once she started Hogwarts, she and Anna would be separated. They would no longer be able to make up stories, play dress up or steal chocolate from the kitchen.

She wouldn't even be seeing Anna again till her Christmas break.

"Elsa? Are you okay?" Anna asked. "You kind of got quiet there." Elsa shook her head, reassuring Anna that she was fine. Anna still hugged her regardless.

Time waits for no one, and Elsa could feel it slipping by with each passing second. I'll just have to treasure the time I have with Anna twice as hard, she thought. After all, she still had over a month to spend time with her sister.

A new chapter in her life was starting, and Elsa wasn't sure if she should look forward to it or be terrified.
