They put out food and drinks (mainly for Haymitch) "so you ready to be my official wife?" Peeta asks "oh yes I am husband" she responds kissing him.
at 6 on the dot everyone came through the door, Haymitch walks up to Katniss and says "sweetheart, I'm proud of you" he kisses her cheek "thank you for everything, we wouldn't be here without you" Katniss says and hugs him.
Prim comes running up to her and hugs her tightly "congrats" her mom says joining the hug.
they all talk and eat and laugh, but there was still the footage from the mayors office loomed over Peeta and Katniss's minds.
"I would like to toast, to my amazing beautiful smart wife. You have saved me in every possible way a person can be saved. I love you" he raises his glass and everyone says "cheers" he sits back down and Katniss whispers in his ear, "you always know what to say" Peeta smiles and whispers back "anything for you" making her smile.
Haymitch was asleep on their couch and Prim was painting something with Peeta's paint after she begged him to let her, and her mom was helping with the dishes, "you don't haft to help" Peeta says to her mom and she smiles at his kindness "nonsense!"
Katniss goes over to Prim, "can I borrow some paint" she nods her head not looking away from her own painting, she goes over to Haymitch and starts to paint on his face "Katniss what are you doing" Peeta says walking over her mom in tow, "painting Haymitch" she says "then your the one cleaning him up next time he pukes on himself" he says sitting down, "do I want to know" her mom asks "no" Katniss finishes and says "done" "it's a masterpiece really" Peeta says laughing.
After about 5 minutes Haymitch wakes up and notices Katniss's evil grin, "what did you do" Peeta hands him something he can look at to see himself, he sees what Katniss did and grunts "you are extremely lucky you are letting me take the leftover boos home" "we are no-" he glares at her making her stop "fine. But try not to kill yourself" she says handing him the drinks, "no promises. See ya tomorrow" he walks out.
"is he like that all the time?" Prim asks coming into the room "sort of, he's nice around me, Katniss and Effie" Peeta says "Effie is on occasion" Katniss corrects "true. He just doesn't like people" Peeta says, *knock knock knock knock knock" frantic knocking on the door making them shoot up, they run to the door and open it to find Gale hunched in his friends arms "get him to my house" Mrs. Everdeen says and Peeta helps them lift a beaten Gale to her mothers house.
"what happened" Katniss asks once they lay a groaning Gale on the table "got into an argument and all the guys friends beat him up" Gales friend says (I am not doing the whipping because that was the only time I felt bad for Gale and I'm not allowing that) Katniss watches her mother and Prim work on Gale, she feels someone hug her from behind and freaks out for a second before realizing it's Peeta, "he's gonna be ok" Peeta says and Katniss knows he's right.
after a painful 30 minutes of watching her mom and Prim her mom says "ok I gave him some sleep soup so he should sleep for a while, everyone can go home" she says and looks at Katniss the entire time, everyone leaves except Katniss and Peeta, "someone needs to stay by his side" Prim says and Peeta immediately says "I'll watch him tonight" Katniss goes to protest "you need to sleep so you can get game for the Hawthorns" she knows Peeta is right "ok." She kisses him and says "I love you" before walking out the door hearing his faint "love you too"
after a few hours Gale starts to wake, "shh your safe" Peeta says seeing his panic "Peeta?" "Hey Gale." "What are you doing here" "Katniss wanted to stay with you but I said no so she could get good sleep to hunt for food for your family tomorrow" Peeta explains and Gale huffs "she doesn't need to I'll be fine" he try's to sit up but fails "yeah, you have 4 broken ribs a concussion and a bruised thumb" Peeta says making Gale groan in frustration "Mrs. Everdeen said you should be fine to hunt again in about 2 weeks" "what about money" Gale says starting to panic "the fight happened during work hours so the mines are giving you paid leave so you don't sue" Peeta explains "I don't really remember what happened" Peeta sighs "you got into some sort of fight and all the guys buddies came after you" Gale groan "god my mom is gonna be pissed" "she actually came by and said to tell you not to worry"
The next few weeks are spent nursing Gale back to health. Peeta would give the hawthorns bread and Katniss would bring them game.
they are watching Tv when "special report" president snow pops up on the screen, there is a hunger games sign behind him "the games aren't for a few more months" Katniss says and Peeta shrugs, "as you know these next games are the third quarter quell." President snow says on the screen "today is the reading of the card" a young boy comes up next to snow and hands him a card, "to show the districts that even the strongest among them can not defy the capital, the tributes will be pulled from the remaining names of victors from each district" Peeta's arm drops from her shoulders and she lets out a mangled sob, "Katniss" Katniss runs out the door and runs to the woods, she gets to the fence and screams. She sits there sobbing for an hour, she then realizes, Peeta, he can't die, she won't let him!
she runs to Haymitch's house and walks in, "hi. So you've come here to what? Ask me to die" he asks and she realizes that's what she did come here for "no. I came for a drink" she sits down grabbing his drink "now that's something" he says and they drink for a while.
"we haft to save him" Haymitch sighs "I will volunteer if his name gets pulled but if my-" "if your name gets pulled then you choose him" Katniss says and he raises his eyebrows "last time I got all the gifts all the sponsors. This time he gets them all" Haymitch nods "I used to think you never deserved him but I got to admit, you have become a better person for him" Katniss smiles at him "to inevitable death" she says raising her glass "to death" they drink some more.
when she arrives home a bit drunk Peeta immediately grabs her and carries her to their room. They lay down holding each other as they cry.
what are they going to do now.

i don't know if im gonna continue this. I have a draft of the first chapter that i have rewrote a bunch of times and still don't like it so we will see.
