Chapter 3

Dally's POV

I was walking the streets when I heard something. I turned around to see what the commotion was. It was Darry and Soda in the truck. They were about a block behind me. I waved them down.

"Where are you two broads off to?" I said with a snappy remark. As I looked again, I knew instantly. In the passenger seat sat 16-year-old Sodapop Curtis. He looked like he could die any second. Before I could finish looking at him Darry but in.

"We gotta go. Hop in the back." I did so with no hesitation. My mind could not stop racing. I was scared for Soda. We would always kid about dying but when it came to this it was horrible. When we got to the hospital, I ran inside to get help for Soda. He wasn't looking good when they took him back.

"Darry, what happened?" He couldn't look at me. He just keeps rocking back and forth with his head in his hands. "Dar? Is everything ok?" For the second time this week I saw Darry cry. "It's ok buddy. Just tell me what happened."

"I was in my room still. I have not left it much for the last 2 days since you found me. I heard a loud bang out front. I thought someone had hit my truck. I stumbled out of bed and as I walked to the front door, I saw Soda laying in the street." As he said this I almost fainted. "He had got pinched between my truck and the Socs car. His right leg was smashed into the front of the car." I sat in the seat next to him and started rubbing his back.

"Dally..., is Soda going to make it?" He said this as he hit his head into my chest. To most this looked strange, but Darry had grown on me since I found him. I was coming to check on him when I saw them in the truck.

"Don't worry Darry. Soda ain't going nowhere." It took everything for me to be strong for Darry. Normally it was the other way around. Most people don't know the history between me and Darry.

I showed up 5 years ago now from New York City. I had gotten in too much trouble up there. I am Bisexual and I have only told Soda and Darry. No one else knows. Thats one of the reasons I left New York. There was a girl, but she could not stand that I was bi. She told the police that I had hit her, and they took me away. When I got here, I didn't know if I could trust anyone until I meet the Curtis Brothers and their gang. They opened their home till I found somewhere safe to stay. I would still stay there some nights tho. Soda was first to find out. It was a July night and I had just walked in the door to the Curtis house, and I saw Darry. Darry was 18 at the time and I was 17. He was getting out of the shower. He saw me and reached to shut the door but only closed it a little. Which confused me.

"What's up Dall?" Soda asked. He was sitting in the living room. By the look in his eyes, he knew what I was looking at.

"Uh… nothing, you?" Asked trying to act normal.

"Nothing, just looking at you. You are looking at something?" He said with a sarcastic remark.

I thought to myself, "Shit! He's on to me." I calmly responded with, "no". I said it with my voice trembling, so he knew that I was lying right there and then.

"You sure?" Soda asked, I finally broke.

"I'm looking at Darry. You can't tell nobody. Darry will hang me. No one knows this but I'm Bisexual. I've been needing to tell Darr, but I don't know how to." This all came so a small surprise to Soda. He could tell that I liked guys but his own brother. What would he think of me now? My thought was interrupted by Soda.

"Look it's fine. To tell the truth..." Soda leaned over to Dally. He whispered, "he's Bisexual too." My heart was all over the place. I was ecstatic. My memory was interrupted by the nurse. I had forgot that I was at the hospital. Darry was nowhere to be seen.
