Chapter 4
Soda POV
I woke up with a pain in my side. I didn't open my eyes because the light was too bright. I waited a few minutes and opened my eyes. I looked down and saw my arm in a cast. I looked around the room. Darry was sleeping in the room on the couch with Dally. I started to snicker. It must have been loud.
"That's you, Soda?" Darry looked like crap. He had a tore up shirt on and a pair of muddy jeans. He started to walk over to the bed.
"What happened to you?" I said as he sat down next to me. "Dar, you look like crap. What happened?" I winced in pain as a sharp pain shot through my back.
"You ok Soda? Do you need anything?" He had never been this sincere with me. I was wondering why he was being so nice.
"No thanks Dar." I said, glancing around the room. "Where's Pony? And why is Dally here?" He had a weird look in his eyes.
"You don't remember?" When his words hit me, I almost had a heart attack. I remembered the fight and me running after Pony. I remember hitting Darry. And how I was jumped outside the house that night. How he saw Dally on the way to the hospital and jumped in.
"We need to get back out there and look for him." I said rushing to get out of this bed but the minute I tried Darry and Dally stopped me. I hadn't noticed that Dally woke up.
"Take it easy kid." Dally said with a slight grin. "I have something to tell you two." He looked scared. I have never seen Dallas Winston look scared of anything or anyone. He sat down on the chair across the bed from Darry. "I know where Pony and Johnny are."
"What the fuck?" Darry yelled at him before I could say anything. He ran around the bed and grabbed Dally by his jacket. "Where is my brother?" Dallas had the most fear I have ever seen in his eyes. I did not know how to feel. I was mad at Dally, but I was scared that Darry would do something he would regret.
"Now calm down Dar. They are safe. Let me explain." Darry was about to punch Dally.
"DARRY, STOP!" I yelled. I think the whole floor of the hospital could hear me. He looked at me with rage in his eyes. I knew that look, the same look as the night Pony ran away. "Let's hear him out." I protested. He finally let his jacket go.
"He and Johnny got themselves into some trouble and needed my help." He said, sitting back in the chair. "Johnny killed a Soc. They needed a way out of town. I got them on a train to Windrixville. They are hiding in a church. But their safer there than here right now." Darry's face said it all. I wanted to hit Dally but when I reached over, I groaned in pain. Darry ran over to him again.
"Why the fuck would you not tell us?" He said while he grabbed Dally and gave him a big bear hug.
"Sorry Dar. I was trying to make sure they weren't going to be found." I heard him said to Darry.
"Thanks for looking out for him. But next time tell us so we don't have a heart attack."
"OK Pepsi Cola." The other two sat down on the couch again.
"Dally?" I said.
"Yeah Soda?"
"What are you doing here?" I said with a smirk. Dally took a second. "And don't you lie to me Winston. I'll be able to tell." He looked down at Darry who had his head in Dallys's lap. I realized and waved him off. My brother and Darry had finally gotten together. My heart was shocked. It made my heart sting, but it was for a good reason. I was feeling sleepy. "Good night lover boys." I said with a smirk. I got a stiff look from Darry.
"Night Soda." Dally called out. I realized how happy they were and drifted off to sleep.
2 hours later:
Darry's POV
I woke up to the sound of loud cries and the rushing of footsteps. I opened my eyes to see Dallys sleepy face. He was so cute when he was sleeping. I turned to my side to look over at Soda. He was gone. I shot straight up off the couch. "Dally, wake up. Soda's gone. He's not in bed."
"What Darry?" He was trying to wake up.
"Soda's not in his bed." I started to feel tears in the corner of my eyes. Dally must have seen this because he stood up and gave me the biggest hug I have ever gotten.
"It's ok Dar-Bear. We'll find him." He let go and we took off to the front desk. I stopped to ask the one nurse who had been taking care of Soda where he was.
"Ma'am?"
"Yes dear. Can I help you?"
"Yes, my brother, Sodapop Curtis was in room 235. I woke up and he was not in his bed." I said catching my breath. "Do you know where he is?"
"Oh, yes. He had to go upstairs for Physical therapy."
"Really? This early?"
"Why? It's 7:26 a.m. That's not very early."
I looked over at the clock on the wall. "Sorry for the inconvenience, ma'am."
"No worry."
I left to find Dally. He was getting us breakfast.
"I heard Soda was upstairs doing something. You want some?" He said with an evil grin. I nodded and sat down with him. He looked at me.
"I was planning to go get Pony and Johnny today. Wanta come with me?"
"I don't know Dally. I would but I don't know if I'm ready to see Pony. Plus, I should stay here with Soda."
"Come on Darry. We could get Two-Bit or Steve to come over. You need to get out of here." I tried to cut him off. "And I'm not taking no for an answer Curtis."
"Then why make it seem like I had an option." I snickered.
"I wanted to see if you would go willingly or not."
