Ki-Adi-Mundi added, "The stuff of prophesy revolves around that holocron. It is said that the one who recognizes it is the one who shall unlock its secrets."
"That's an odd bit of prophesy considering anyone could read these marks with a translator droid." said Naruto.
Yoda held out his hand and asked, "The holocron please Master Naruto?"
"Of course, Master." said Naruto as he handed over the octahedron.
Yoda examined the holocron carefully and said, "I see no marks."
Obi-wan Kenobi looked a bit shocked and said, "Grandmaster Yoda, I don't understand."
Yoda smiled and levitated the holocron over to Kenobi. "Look yourself Obi-wan. I see no marks, readable or otherwise."
The entire council examined the holocron and none of them could see a thing. Yoda chuckled. "Very mysterious indeed that only Master Uzumaki can see markings when the rest of us cannot. Leave this item in your capable hands we will Naruto."
The blonde's eyes nearly popped out of his head. "Shouldn't this go to the archives for study?"
Master Windu said, "Why don't you study it yourself for a bit? See what you can puzzle out before turning it over to the archives."
The entire Council nodded in agreement and the blonde Renatasian sweat dropped. "I will do what I can Masters."

Chapter 2
Year 15 BBY
Core Worlds, Planet Coruscant, Jedi Grand Temple, Master Naruto Uzumaki's Quarters
Natasi Roche was reading aloud what she'd learned at the Jedi Archives over the past few days while her Father Naruto had been studying Lord Hoth's holocron. "The Sith Academyof Ryloth was established by the Brotherhood of Darkness near the end of the New Sith Wars to train Sith assassins and spies around 1000 years ago. These initiates had a greater aptitude in the Force than their brethren in the academies on Honoghr, Gentes, and Gamorr." she said.
Naruto nodded at his daughter, and she continued. "On Ryloth recruits learned to use the dark side for secrecy, deception, and manipulation. Those who survived the rigorous training became deadly assassins, preferring use of the dark side to kill rather than with physical force… That's the place you and Master Aayla Secura discovered, isn't it?"
The blonde smiled. "Yes, Master Secura and I stumbled upon it while hunting down a traitor to the Republic on Ryloth. Now tell me about the Brotherhood of Darkness."
Natasi said, "The Brotherhood of Darkness was a group of Sith that rose to power in the last decade of the Galactic Republic's Dark Age. Founded by Jedi Master–turned–Dark Lord of the Sith Skere Kaan, the Brotherhood took the place of the fragmented Sith Empire after slaughtering many of its most powerful lords. Forming the Dark Army, a force of warriors and soldiers meant to rain fire upon Republic worlds, the Brotherhood existed under the leadership of the Sith Council of Lords, constantly warring with the Jedi Order's Army of Light until both armies were utterly decimated at the Seventh Battle of Ruusan."
"Very good Natasi." said Naruto. "I've been studying this Lord Hoth's holocron and the first layer I've unlocked is virtually an encyclopedia about the Brotherhood of Darkness. It describes Sith Academies for assassins we previously didn't know about on Umbara and Nar Shaddaa. It also mentions the academies Honoghr, Gentes, and Gamorr were used to train Sith Warriors that led infantry. We knew about those already of course."
"The holocron also describes senior Sith being trained on Dathomir and Iridonia." explained the Jedi Master. "Their primary purpose was to kill or capture Jedi, turned over their captives to high-ranking Sith Lords who would torture them until they either died or fell to the dark side and joined the Brotherhood."
Natasi gasped. "That sounds like what they tried to do to you on Onderon in the Japrael System Daddy!"
"Exactly." said Naruto darkly. "Jiraiya died fighting and I had Kurama and escaped."
"It sounds like someone is trying to build a new Brotherhood of Darkness." said the lilac haired girl.
"And it has been going on for years obviously." agreed the blonde. "We must speak to the Jedi High Council about this…"

Outer Rim Territories, Gaulus Sector, Planet Ryloth, Outskirts of Lessu City, Nightlands
The Lethan Twi'lek Shior Atlee was hiding from her former Master Rena Fenn. She was hurt badly but had escaped the Sith Academy of Ryloth alive. 'What insanity has gripped Rena?' thought Shior frightened. 'She was always like a Mother to me and now she's trying to kill me!'
The pair of Twi'leks had infiltrated the Sith Academy on Ryloth two years ago posing as Jedi archeologists from Almas. The Jedi from the Order on Coruscant had welcomed them with open arms and the group began working together to unearth the black secrets of the ancient Sith there.
Gradually, the real Jedi there started becoming corrupted just as Rena Fenn predicted they would, and the group decided to put the Sith Magics they'd uncovered to use. The Sith tongue became the preferred language and Rena's word gradually became law.
Shior woke up the morning before and felt that something was off. She saw her beloved Master standing over her. Rena activated her red light saber and said, "I love you like a daughter Shior. To truly immerse oneself in the Dark Side we must cast off all that we cherish. Your death will increase my hatred and I will gain power beyond imagination!"
Rena's eyes were blazing gold with the power of darkness as she brought her light saber down upon her apprentice, but Shior managed to Force push her crazed Master back through the wall behind the elder Twi'lek. Rena lashed out with Force lightning and badly hurt the Lethan Twi'lek but Shior managed to escape into the Nightlands and had been on the run from the Neo-Sith ever since…

Core worlds, Planet Coruscant, Jedi Grand Temple, Jedi High Council Chambers
Naruto and Natasi went to see the Jedi High Council regarding the possibility of a new Brotherhood of Darkness. "…And that is why I believe we must go to Ryloth and unseal the Academy there so we can locate the positions of the other Sith Academies. I sense danger on Ryloth and it must be investigated."
Master Obi-wan Kenobi said, "Naruto, the Sith Academy on Ryloth was unsealed three years ago. It's being studied as we speak."
Naruto's blue eyes widened, "W-what…? Whose idea was this?!"
"Chief Librarian Jacosta Nu believed you would leave it sealed forever and ordered a research team to excavate it." said Ki-Ad-Mundi. "The Council had a heated debate before we agreed to a research expedition. You were not informed because we knew you would be diametrically opposed to it."
"I have a bad feeling about this…" said the blonde Renatasian.
"As do I." agreed Mace Windu. "I believe our haste in exploring that place may have been a mistake. Master Naruto, you must go to Ryloth Academy and see what is going on there."
Grandmaster Yoda said, "Master Obi-wan, you will take with you. Foresee trouble, I do. His experience is needed."
Naruto and Natasi bowed. The blonde turned the Kenobi and said, "Master Obi-wan, your company is welcome. We need to make haste. I will requisition a shuttle and we will leave first thing in the morning."
Obi-wan smiled and said, "It's been a while since we went on a mission together Naruto, I'll be interested in seeing how you and Natasi interact."
The two Renatasians just sweat dropped…

Jedi Grand Temple, Hangar Level
After Natasi and Naruto bid their family goodbye, they boarded a waiting T-4a shuttle that Naruto had requested the night before. Kenobi met them there and noted that Natasi was in the pilot's seat in the cockpit and Naruto was in the copilot's seat. Obi-wan asked, "Is this arrangement safe?"
Naruto and Natasi got identical smiles and Naruto said, "There has to be a first time for everything Obi-wan. Besides, I didn't want you to be bored."
The lilac haired padawan said, "Strap in Master Kenobi, I'm getting clearance for takeoff now."

After entering hyperspace, Naruto was meditating on Lord Hoth's holocron hoping to glean more information about the Sith Academy on Ryloth. In the meantime, Obi-wan was talking with Natasi up in the cockpit of the shuttle about the war. The force strong girl said, "Master Naruto doesn't talk much about the Clone Wars. He said he was stuck flying a desk towards the end."
Obi-wan laughed. "Your Father was at the Republic Strategic Command as the Jedi Advisor helping coordinate the war effort against the Separatists. His radical strategies coupled with pulling most of the Jedi Generals out of the war may have shortened the Clone Wars by years."
"I had no idea." replied Natasi in surprise. "He told me that you and him managed to escape Palpatine at the end. He even said you cut off Darth Sidious' hand."
"I was very fortunate that Naruto was there." said the Jedi Master. "He singlehandedly defeated Count Dooku and then pulled me away from the raging Darth Sidious. Force Lightning was flying everywhere and your Father powered through it to rescue me. It's all a blur to me now to be honest."
"I'm surprised he never said anything." the padawan said. "I'll have to ask him about it sometime."

Outer Rim Territories, Gaulus Sector, Planet Ryloth, Outskirts of Lessu City, Nightlands
The disgraced human Jedi Ezzo Mirin had fallen on hard times since the Clone Wars. He came to Ryloth a year ago and quickly fell under the spell of the Dark Side largely due to the influence of the beautiful Twi'lek Master Rena Fenn. Now he was hunting her apprentice Shior Atlee in the Nightlands of Ryloth.
Ezzo was determined to move up to a position of prominence among the Neo-Sith as he had once been in the Jedi Order. His handsome visage had become gaunt and twisted as he immersed himself in the energies of the ancient Sith Magics. Now Mirin intended to kill Shior lest she leak information on the true nature of things at the Sith Academy of Ryloth to the Jedi Order…
Unfortunately for all concerned, Ezzo was the first of the Neo-Sith to find Shior Atlee and attacked her immediately. He tried to strike her down from behind with his light saber, but she was too fast and dodged his attack. The arrogant former Jedi said, "Your life is over Atlee!"
She kicked him away and hissed, "You always were an overconfident fool, Mirin. I'll be doing both sides a favor by killing you off." She activated her red blade and said, "Time to die!"
The two force users charged each other and immediately engaged in a vicious light saber duel. She shocked him with force lightning that lit up the Nightlands with its intensity. Ezzo did his best to deflect it away from him but was still injured with lightning burns across his face. He cried out in anger and pain as he took the offensive with an overhead strike against Shior.
She countered with a low foot sweep that tripped him up and Shior followed up with a Force push that sent Ezzo tumbling back into a rock formation. He was injured and bleeding from various cuts and bruises but climbed up the rocks and launched himself down at Shior anyway.
The Twi'lek saw Mirin's guard was open as he descended upon her from above and moved with Jedi speed to bisect Ezzo diagonally. The two halves of his body hit the ground and he gasped out "…I l-lost…?" before his life was totally extinguished.
Shior was panting heavily and said, "To hell with the Neo-Sith! I am out of here!" Then the beautiful Lethan Twi'lek headed towards the Bright Lands and Lessu City…

Gaulus Sector, Planet Ryloth Orbit
The Jedi T-4a shuttle dropped out of hyperspace and into orbit of the Planet Ryloth. Naruto contacted the space traffic control of Lessu City and soon the white and red shuttle was landed at docking bay seventy-six.
As the shuttle's boarding ramp lowered Naruto sensed a presence he hadn't felt in a long time. '…Shior Atlee…' he thought to himself. 'What are you doing here…?'
That's when the depleted Shior dragged herself over to docking bay seventy-six and collapsed in front of Naruto, Natasi and Obi-wan. She said, "Naruto, please help me…" before she passed out.
Obi-wan raised an eyebrow and said, "That's quite a welcoming committee. Should we take her to the hospital?"
Naruto shook his head and placed a hand on the downed Shior's forehead. "Let's get her aboard the shuttle. She's banged up but mainly exhausted."
"Who is she?" asked Natasi suspiciously as Naruto handed Obi-wan Shior's light saber.
The blonde Jedi Master said, "She's an old foe of mine named Shior Atlee and is very dangerous." He picked the unconscious Twi'lek up bridal style and carried her back aboard the shuttle to the 2-1B*① medical droid onboard. "She must be in real trouble to come to me for help."
…
As the medical droid tended to Shior, Naruto explained to Natasi and Obi-wan, "Shior Atlee was a Jedi Padawan from Almas Academy who was turned to the Dark Side when she was still a child. She was the one that carved the whisker marks into my face with a light saber." Natasi gasped and Obi-wan winced.
Naruto sighed. "Shior and I have fought each other many times over the years but I haven't seen her since the war. She and her Master Rena Fenn once served Count Dooku but left his service before the war ended. I can't imagine what she's doing here or how she got so beat up. My only guess is it has something to do with the Ryloth Sith Academy."

Shior's blue eyes fluttered open only to see the lilac haired Natasi glaring at her. The girl said, "Master Naruto told me to watch over you. I don't know why he is helping you after you carved Sith runes in his face."
Shior looked at Natasi in wonder. "You're… his daughter?"
The girl said, "I'm Natasi Roche, Master Naruto Uzumaki's padawan learner."
The Lethan Twi'lek said, "I'm Shior Atlee. I have information on the Sith Academy here on Ryloth. It is vital that I tell your Master about it."
"Wait here and I'll fetch Master Kenobi." said Natasi. "Master Naruto is out on an errand."
"Master Obi-wan Kenobi?" asked Shior.
Natasi nodded and said, "Don't go anywhere."
The Twi'lek sighed and thought, 'It isn't like I have anywhere else to go...'

Natasi quickly returned with Master Kenobi in tow. He said, "I'm Obi-wan Kenobi. Master Uzumaki told us a bit of your history with him. How did you end up so torn up and fatigued?"
"My former Master Rena Fenn decided to murder me for power." said Shior. "She claimed it would increase her immersion in the Dark Side by killing one she loved. She and the Neo-Sith have been hunting me ever since. I had to kill Ezzo Mirin in self-defense to escape."
Obi-wan looked thoughtful, "That would explain why we found Mirin cut in half. What about the other dead Jedi that were at the Academy?"
Atlee was genuinely surprised. "I have no idea about other Neo-Sith dying. Master Rena told them all to hunt me."
"You refer to the others as Neo-Sith." said Kenobi. "What exactly happened to the Jedi that were supposed to examine the Sith Academy ruins?"
Naruto came in about that time. "They were enraptured and seduced by the power of the Dark Side." said the blonde. "From what I can tell, Rena Fenn and some of the others escaped and the remaining Jedi turned upon one another. There are Dark Force spirits running all over that place right now. I suspect they drove the others insane."
Hot tears spilled out of Shior's blue eyes. "But why Naruto? Many of them had become my friends."
Obi-wan said, "It seems that Rena Fenn has totally embraced the Dark Side. She betrayed you and those others for power alone. You may be the only one left alive."
Shior said, "Rena was like a Mother to me. I loved her! How could things have gone so wrong?!"
"More to the point, what are you going to do Shior?" asked Naruto. "Where do you stand in this mess?"
"The Neo-Sith are my enemies." said the Twi'lek sadly. "I will help you against them. Will the Jedi Order grant me amnesty?"
Obi-wan asked, "Do you know where Fenn could have escaped to?"
Shior looked pensive and said, "There are many old Sith Academies but I'd guess Dathomir. Lord Maul and the Nightsisters are there. They would welcome someone of Rena's caliber."
"Are Maul and the others members of the Neo-Sith?" questioned Naruto.
"I don't think so." replied Shior. "I think they are just Dark Force users… But there is an ancient Sith Academy on Dathomir that Rena wanted to explore."
Obi-wan said, "Shior Atlee, I can't guarantee anything, but I will plead your case before the Jedi High Council."
"Thank you, Master Kenobi." said Shior sincerely.
"What about the Ryloth Sith Academy?" asked Natasi.
Naruto shook his head. "That's for the Jedi High Council to deal with. Only a group of experienced Jedi Masters can reseal that disaster area. I'm not taking you near there Natasi. It is far too dangerous for a padawan."
"Still, we need to have the area cordoned off to protect the locals." said Obi-wan. "This could take some time."

Core worlds, Planet Coruscant, Jedi Grand Temple, Jedi High Council Chambers
Naruto and Obi-wan were presenting their report via holographic projection to the Jedi High Council. Naruto said, "…Until we can reseal the Sith Academy, I suggest we protect the people of Ryloth from its vile taint with a squad of Jedi Guardians and guard droids."
"Troubling news, this is." said Yoda.
Mace Windu asked, "What of the rogue Master Rena Fenn?"
"She escaped in a YT-1250 Transport named Gemini with a dozen followers according to our informant Shior Atlee." explained Naruto. "Judging by the number of bodies I found, I'd say she is correct. Shior believes they may have escaped to Dathomir but the only solid fact we have is Rena Fenn has escaped us for now."
Obi-wan spoke up. "Shior Atlee is looking for amnesty in exchange for her help against the Neo-Sith. I believe she is truthful about rejoining the Order and could be very helpful. I would like to plead her case before the Jedi High Council."
Master Mundi sighed. "Very well Obi-wan, the Council will agree to meet this former dark force user. We will not hold her against her will but trusting her will be… difficult."
"I understand Master Mundi." agreed Kenobi. "I've already explained that there are no guarantees."
"As long as she understands that then bring her before the council." said Master Windu.
"May the Force be with you." said Grandmaster Yoda.
"…And you as well Masters." replied Obi-wan as he signed off.
Yoda spoke to the rest of the Council. "The loss of our archeologists, too great. Wrong we were in unsealing the Ryloth Sith Academy so soon."
"And what of this Twi'lek girl, Shior Atlee?" asked another member of the Council.
"Time will tell." said Mace Windu. "Obi-wan seems convinced that she is repentant."
"What about Master Naruto?" asked yet another.
"He is too biased to be impartial about her." said Master Mundi. "He admitted as much in his report."

Outer Rim Territories, Gaulus Sector, Planet Ryloth, Lessu City
"Pursuing Rena Fenn is going to be difficult given we are headed back to Coruscant soon." said Obi-wan. "Our orders are to return with Shior Atlee as soon as the guards being sent are in place."
Naruto shook his head. "This all could have been avoided if the Council had just waited."
Kenobi said, "Naruto, the Council isn't infallible. You know this."
Three days later, a squad of Jedi Guardians and droids arrived to relieve Naruto's group from watching over the Sith Academy on Ryloth…

Core worlds, Planet Coruscant, Jedi Grand Temple, Jedi High Council Chambers
Naruto and Natasi were summoned before the Jedi High Council virtually the moment they landed. Master Yoda looked grim. He said, "To the Centrality Sector, you must go. The Planet Renatasia, still in the hands of the Separatists. Too long has the Republic ignored the situation. Liberate Renatasia, you must."
Naruto looked a bit pained. "So, things have come full circle at last."
That was when Ahsoka Tano came into the chamber and said, "It's been awhile. I'll be joining you on this trip Master Naruto."

Naruto and Natasi went to their family quarters and were welcomed home by Padmė and the twins. The blonde Jedi Master explained, "We're going to Renatasia in the Centrality Sector. The Republic has ignored that world for too long."
"Your homeworld…" said Padmė worriedly.
He kissed her forehead, "My heart will always be with you Padmė."
"Do you foresee anything?" asked the Senator.
Naruto shook his head. "Right now, the future is clouded to me."

The next morning, Naruto's group boarded another Jedi T-4a shuttle and set out for Rentasia…

Outer Rim Territories, Centrality Sector, Planet Renatasia III
It had been eleven years since Naruto had seen Renatasia III and nine since the planet had been occupied by the forces of the Trade Federation and the Techno Union at the beginning of the conflict that led to the Clone Wars. By now, the Trade Federation Separatist movement in the Galaxy at large was all but completely dismantled but they still had a firm grip in the Renatasia System.
Naruto said, "I used to live on the outskirts of Mathilde City. It's the Capitol and there is a safe place to land near there according to our contact. Our callsign to the Renatasian Resistance is Blackbird One." Then he added somberly, "My old squadron had the callsign of Blackbird as well."
"Do you think it's a coincidence?" asked Natasi.
The blonde shook his head. "No, I don't."
Ahsoka interjected, "We'll know soon enough. We'll be over the planet in fifteen minutes."
After tuning into the correct frequency, the Togruta Jedi transmitted, "This is Blackbird One to Blackbird Base, please respond, we are standing by."
They soon received a transmission from a male with a gravelly voice. "This is Blackbird Base to Blackbird One. We have secured a safe landing point at the following coordinates…"
Naruto looked like he'd seen a ghost when he heard the heard the coordinates. "That's Dispersal Landing Field M-22's coordinates. I'd know them anywhere."
"Do you think it's a trap Master Naruto?" asked Ahsoka worriedly.
The blonde answered, "No, I just think that someone from before the war set this up, someone I may have known."
"Like my birth Mother?" asked Natasi.
"It is within the realm of possibility." replied Naruto. "That or someone that knows her…or did."

Dispersal Landing Field M-22
The T-4a shuttle landed undercover of night without incident on a camouflaged landing platform hidden in the forest adjacent to what Naruto remembered as field M-22. The Jedi quickly got off the shuttle and walked over to a land speeder that was waiting for them.
A young man greeted them. "I'm Lieutenant Cordo Roche." he said. Natasi almost gasped. "Welcome to Renatasia. Are you really Jedi Knights?"
"We are." answered the blonde. "I'm Jedi Master Naruto Uzumaki. Let's get to someplace safe, Cordo. Then we can talk."
Lieutenant Roche nodded and motioned for them to get in the speeder. After they piled in, Cordo said, "This is wild! I never imagined I'd meet a real Jedi!"
Natasi was talking mentally to her Father. 'Do you have any idea who this Cordo Roche is? I know my Mother was the only one you knew when you left but-'
'Don't worry Natasi, we'll figure it out together.' thought the blonde to her as he gently squeezed the lilac haired girl's hand.

Malthilde City
The Neimoidian Politician Lott Dod*② was reflecting on his current position in the Galaxy. He and the late Nute Gunray (who had been executed by the Senate along with Count Dooku among others) were the prime movers in the Trade Federation. Now Lott was hiding on the backwater System of Renatasia. The Republic either didn't know he was still alive or didn't care enough to hunt him down.
His luxurious palace and personal assets on Cato Neimoidia had been absorbed by the Republic as war reparations leaving him with next to nothing except some hidden accounts with the Intergalactic Banking Clan. It had been a long, hard road since the Clone Wars ended five years ago. Still, Lott ruled over all he surveyed on Renatasia III along with a few loyal Separatists and Battle Broids under his command.
Dod felt that given time he could recoup his losses from behind the scenes but for now the crafty politician would simply have to lay low…

Malthilde City, Outskirts
Cordo Roche took his Jedi guests to a hidden underground enclave the Renatasian Resistance had constructed sometime after Naruto left the planet to rejoin the Jedi Order. Travelling through a concealed passage the group arrived unscathed at the hidden base.
Naruto and Ahsoka both noted lots of well-armed and armored ground vehicles but no flight capable craft. "Looks like you have craft strictly for a ground war Cordo." said the blonde Jedi Master.
Lieutenant Roche nodded and said, "So does the enemy. The last of the Trade Federations Droid Fighters were taken out last year. There is no air superiority here at all. The only flying things we have left on either side are unarmed shuttles and they are worth their weight in spice out here. Most of them don't fly anymore due to lack of spare parts… and anything hyperdrive capable left the system long ago when I was still a kid. We're totally isolated."
Naruto felt a pang of guilt but quickly quashed it. 'I need to focus on the here and now, not the past.' he thought. The blonde said, "Cordo, do you have a commanding officer?"
Cordo Roche took off his helmet revealing his own lilac hair. He said proudly, "Our leader is General Grissa Roche, she is my Mother and the leader of the resistance."
"Do you have other Family in the resistance?" asked Ahsoka. "No offense, but you seem awfully young,"
He smiled in a friendly way, "I'm seventeen." Then he added dully, "My Dad's dead and I had a baby sister…"
The Togruta Jedi said, "I'm sorry to have dredged up bad memories."
Cordo frowned. "It's okay, Dad was no good anyway. He sold out to the Separatists and loathed my baby sister with a passion for some reason. I think he may have been behind her vanishing when I was little. Mom hated him and doesn't talk about him."
"Let's go met up with General Roche then." said Naruto. "I'm sure we have much to talk about."
The lilac haired young man nodded eagerly. "Follow me!" Cordo led the three Jedi through the halls of the resistance base until he reached a command room and he knocked.
The door opened and two armed guards bade them enter. An older man said in a gravelly voice, "Welcome back Lieutenant Roche. Are these the agents from the Republic?"
Cordo smiled and said, "They are Jedi Knights."
The older man brightened up and said, "That changes things considerably. I'm Colonal Miles Mazus. Welcome to Renastasia III."
Naruto recognized the man not only as who had spoken to them in orbit but the space traffic controller who help direct Blackbird Squadron when he was flying with them. Naruto lowered his hood and said, "It's been a long time Mazus. I guess it's only natural that you moved up through the ranks."
Miles looked totally shocked and said, "Pilot Uzumaki, is that you? By the gods! We all thought you were dead!"
