Chapter 6

Darry's POV

We were around the corner from our house. Pony and Johnny had just finished their sandwiches. Pony had a mess all over his face. I looked over at Dally who I don't know how he did it but he convinced me to let him drive. He was ecstatic. He stopped in front of my house.

"You wanna come inside?" I asked him stepping out of the car. Pony climbed out after me.

"See ya Dall." Pony said as he ran in the house.

"No, I'm gonna make sure Johnny has a place to stay. He's been through a lot." Looking in the back seat at the sleeping boy.

"Love you." I said leaning over the driver's door to kiss him. I kissed him for a good minute.

"Love you too. I might be over tonight." He said starting the car. He drove off. It was getting dark outside. I went inside the house to find silence.

"Pone? You ok?" Two-Bit stepped out of Pony's room.

"Would you be quiet?" What in the world is Two-Bit doing here?

"What are you doing here?" I asked with some suspicion.

"I was taking a nap when Pony came bolting in. He's out like a light." I was glad that he was sleeping. He deserved it.

"Hey, you mind staying here to keep an eye on him?" I knew Two-Bit. I was most likely gonna say yes.

"Yeah Darry. Where are you going?" As I grabbed my keys.

"I'm going to the hospital. I might stay the night there. I need to clear my mind." Before I left he said as I closed the door.

"Is something bothering you, Darry?"

"No…, I just need some air." I told him. I walked to my truck. And started to drive away.

Two-Bit's POV

I heard Darry's truck speed off. I slumped down on the couch and turned on the TV. Mickey was on. I sat there watching Mickey and then the news came on. Breaking News: Thunderbird speeds away from Windrixville with 4 boys in the car. The convertible was clocked going 89 miles per hour. The driver believed to be a citizen of Tulsa is shown here. Not him or his accomplices have been identified. I should have been struck dead. There on the TV was a picture of Darry driving. About that time Dallas walked in.

"You know anything about this Dall? I said pointing to the TV. His face was in shock.

"Where is he?"

"He left for the hospital almost 2 hours ago."

"We need to warn him before it's too late. Where Pony?"

"Sleeping." Dally ran to his room.

"Wake up kid." He said carrying Pony to the car. The same car on the news.

"Dally! We can't take this car because it was on the news." I had to act fast. "Put it in the alley out back. We can take my car." He agreed. We speed to the hospital. It was too late by the time we made it to the waiting room we saw Darry standing there. He was in the middle of the room. He had his hands up and a police officer was approaching him. We all ran to him but were stopped by 5 armed police officers and they took Darry out the side exit. The second the doors opened I heard the loudest yell I've ever heard from right next to me.

"STOP! YOU HAVE THE WRONG PERSON. IT WAS ME." I could not believe it. Dallas Winston who never gave two shots about anyone was about to go to jail for Darry. The police started to walk over. They took Dally and Darry down to the station. We followed in my car. Pony was going to have a panic attack.

"It's okay, Pone. Their going to be fine."

"It's not them I'm worried about." I looked at him confused. "Darry can't get in trouble or me and Soda will be sent away. We won't be able to see Darry or the gang or even each other." He started to cry as we pulled into the station.
