"He's a cute baby boy, Ino!" Sakura gushed at Ino's six-month-old baby. "Look at him, who would have thought that Sai would have such a cute baby." Sakura teased.
"Ino told me that I'm handsome." Sai said. "It's you who should be worried once you and Kakashi-sempai had a kid. I can't see how a hag like you can produce a beautiful baby."
Ino rolled her eyes at Sai's teasing. "Sakura, ignore him. He's just jealous because our baby inherited my beauty."
Sakura chuckled, enjoying the light banter. As she continued to play with Ino's baby, she couldn't help but feel a warmth in her heart. The events of that fateful night, the dark alley, and the subsequent conversation with Kakashi had forged a deeper bond between them.
A year had passed since then, and Sakura and Kakashi navigated the complexities of their relationship. They found solace in each other's company, facing challenges as a team. While the legalities of marriage remained untouched, their commitment to each other only grew stronger.
As they spent time with Ino, Sai, and their adorable baby, Sakura couldn't help but imagine a future where she and Kakashi might have a family of their own. She glanced at Kakashi, who was engaged in a conversation with Sai in the other side of the house, and a sense of contentment washed over her.
Ino noticed Sakura's thoughtful expression. "Thinking about the future, Forehead?"
"No." Sakura lied. "I'm just stunned this beautiful baby boy."
"You should have your own, then." Ino suggested. "So that Inojin will have a playmate."
Sakura chuckled before blowing raspberries to the boy. "I don't know. I don't think Kakashi is ready for that responsibility."
"Sakura, the man is 39 years old! He can handle it!" Ino exasperatedly said.
Sakura laughed at Ino's response, her gaze still lingering on Inojin. "Maybe. We haven't talked about it yet."
"First, he won't marry you. Now, he doesn't want to build a family with you. Are you sure about this, Sakura?" Ino asked her best friend.
Sakura smiled, her eyes reflecting a deep sense of love and understanding. "Ino, it's complicated. And I'd rather have Kakashi without the wedding bells if it means that he'll never leave. As for a kid, I'll babysit all the kids that the Rookie 9 will produce. That way, I get to experience motherhood."
"It's not the same, Sakura." the blond sadly said. "You can't use the kids of your peers to substitute for your own."
Sakura sighed, acknowledging the truth in Ino's words. "I know, Ino. But I've come to accept it. Kakashi has his reasons, and I love him enough to respect his choices."
"You're sacrificing a lot for that relationship, Sakura. Is Kakashi even trying to accommodate your wishes or are you the one who's constantly have to change your plans and dreams?"
Sakura took a moment to reflect on Ino's question. The truth was, their relationship had demanded sacrifices from both sides, and she wasn't blind to the challenges they faced. However, she also knew that love sometimes required compromise.
"Ino, it's not just me making sacrifices," Sakura began, her tone thoughtful. "Kakashi has his own struggles, his own demons to face. I can't force him to change his stance on marriage or starting a family. But I believe in us, in what we have. And that is enough."
"You do know that the villagers are gossiping about you, right?"
Sakura nodded, a hint of sadness in her eyes. "I'm aware of the gossip. People talk, and they always have something to say about unconventional relationships. But it's a small price to pay to be with him. They can talk all they want, as long as I have Kakashi, they don't matter."
"You do realize that if your relationship ends badly, you'll be on the losing side?" Ino clarified.
"I know." Sakura answered. She tore her gaze away from the baby and focused on the cup of tea in front of her. "But at least I got all these years with him, right? It would be enough, right?" she answered even she is aware that she sounded unsure. She tried to keep her tears from falling. "If I die today, I won't have regrets. I must truly love the man if I'm willing to be the second option in everything."
Ino reached out to squeeze Sakura's hand, a mixture of concern and understanding in her eyes. "Sakura, you deserve to be someone's first choice. You're strong, talented, and caring. Don't settle for being the second option. You deserve someone who is willing to meet you halfway, who values your dreams and desires."
Sakura smiled, grateful for Ino's words, but a lingering doubt clouded her expression. "I know, Ino. But sometimes, love is about accepting each other's flaws and finding happiness in the moments you share. I've chosen this path, and I'll walk it with my head held high, even if it means facing judgment from others."
Ino sighed, realizing the depth of Sakura's commitment. "Just remember, Sakura, your happiness matters too. Don't let your love for Kakashi overshadow your own dreams and aspirations. You deserve a love that fulfills you in every way."
As they continued their conversation, Sakura couldn't shake off the internal conflict within her. The complexity of her relationship with Kakashi weighed on her heart, and she wondered if there would come a time when the sacrifices demanded by love would become too heavy to bear.
Deep down, Sakura yearned for a future where they could share not only the joys but also the responsibilities of building a life together. However, the path ahead seemed uncertain, and the echoes of Kakashi's past and their unorthodox relationship cast shadows on their journey.
