(Draco POV) Year: 2162 Location: Patch
After one more round with Uta, I slowly and carefully got out of bed so as not to wake her up. I then put my clothes on and went to check up on Summer. After all, I left her high and dry, which I needed to rectify. So imagine my surprise when I entered her house; she wasn't alone.
On the other side of the couch was a sickly-looking man who looked to be in his mid-thirties and shared a resemblance to Yang. He had blonde hair, blue eyes, unnaturally pale skin, a gaunt face, a skinny frame, and a heart-shaped tattoo on his right arm.
He wore a brown leather vest over a tan dress shirt with the right sleeve cut off. On his right arm, he wears a metal spaulder, leather vambrace, and a brown fingerless glove, while his left arm is wrapped in a red bandana. For his bottom half, he wears brown cargo shorts, a dark brown belt, and black shoes.
This guy must be Yang's and Ruby's biological father. Interesting, I'd thought he'd be more intimidating, not half dead from the looks of it.
He's most likely suffering from a form of disease, and it appears to be deadly, as I can feel his Aura diminishing rapidly.
Summer and her ex turn to look at me. One was happy to see me, while the latter looked confused.
"Did I interrupt something?" I asked with a quirked eyebrow, and Summer shook her head, smiling at me.
"No, you didn't. We were just about done talking," Summer looked at the blonde man coldly. "Right Tai?"
The other man squirmed slightly under her gaze, much to my amusement.
"Y-Yeah," he got from the couch and looked back at me. "Heya, name's Tai," he said in a friendly tone and held his hand out for a handshake.
I looked at his hand for a moment before returning his handshake. "Draco. You must be Yang's and Ruby's father."
"Yeah, I am," we pulled our arms back. "You a friend of theirs?" he asked curiously.
"Yeah, you could say that," I apathetically replied, showing obvious signs that I wasn't interested in small talk.
"I see...well then, I'll get out of you're guy's hair...I'll be back later," he quickly left the house.
Summer chuckled slightly. "It never gets old seeing him squirm."
I looked at her curiously. "I'm assuming Tai was here to talk to you about his will?" she nodded.
Summer looked at me surprised before sighing and shaking her head.
"I shouldn't be even surprised you figured that out...but yeah, he was."
I took a seat where Tai originally was. "Figured as much. How long does he have left?"
"A year or two at most..." she sighed.
"I see...so when's he coming back?"
"When Ruby and Yang get back from school," she divulged.
"Let me guess, he's gonna take out and tell them then?" I asked rhetorically, and she nodded.
"Yup," she sighed. "Tai plans to spend as much time with them as possible before he's too unable to," Summer chuckled bitterly. "You know, I always found it funny how someone can change so much when they're at death's door. They can go from an asshole," she snapped her finger. "To a nice guy at the snap of a finger..."
"Do you think if he were at death's door sooner, you think you'd still be with him?" I asked curiously, and she shook her head in the negative.
"No, we most likely would've still divorced either way. No matter how much I tried, he would always be hung up on her, and I would always be rebound," Summer admitted with a bitter smile, but it quickly turned affection. "But thats ok. I have you guys."
"Thats a good way to look at it," I commented, impressed by her maturity.
Despite her being older than me by two decades, I was ironically the most mature. Although I didn't mind her energetic and childish nature as it had its own charm to it. If anything, I'm glad she's the way she is, or otherwise, I would've been a lot more stiff than I am now.
"Thanks," her smile formed into a frown. "So what did Jacques what?" she asked.
If circumstances were different, I'd prefer keeping Summer out of the loop, but knowing Jacques, he's already boasting about tying our families together like the vain insect that he is, and by tomorrow, the whole world will be aware of my marriage to Uta so lying or hiding the truth is out of the question as it could cost whatever is going between the both of us.
So there's a fifty-fifty chance Summer will be angry and curse my existence or be angry, but understand why I decided to marry Uta.
"Well..."
I told her everything that had transpired, and by the time I was done, Summer had shown no emotion, nor had her Aura changed negatively.
"Honestly, I should've seen this coming," Summer said with an amused tone.
I quirked an eyebrow. "You aren't upset?" Summer shook her head.
"No, I'm not. It would be unfair if I were since we never established what we were to begin with," I mean, Summer's got a point we never did. "Besides, it's not like it's unheard of for a select group of men to have more than one partner," she pointed out.
Oh yeah, how could I even have forgotten about that? If my memory serves me right, individuals who rank far above the rest of society regarding power, skill, and social standing can marry multiple women to increase the likelihood of the Four Kingdoms having strong and capable protectors.
At the top of my head, I can name ten individuals who practice polygamy, and all of them are some of the most powerful people in the world.
Regardless of that, I'm glad that Summer took it well, as I really didn't wanna deal with a pissed-off Seraph.
"I see that's good to hear," I said, slightly smiling.
"However..." Summer narrowed her eyes and pointed her finger at me. "I wanna meet Uta."
I quirked an eyebrow. "You're gonna interrogate my fiance?"
"Yup," she smiled, not even bothering to lie or word it differently. "I wanna make sure this girl really likes you...I...I don't want you to end up like me..." her smile faded slightly, but her expression soon hardened. "You've done a lot for us, and I'll be damned if I'll someone hurt you."
Oh, Summer, you sweet, naive woman, do you really believe I'd allow myself to be vulnerable so easily around the opposite sex? If only you knew...
Nonetheless, I appreciate her sincerity and protectiveness, so I'll allow her to "interrogate" Uta for my amusement.
(Timeskip: 3 hours later)
As predicted, Uta made it through Summer's interrogation with little to no issue, as her feelings toward me were one hundred percent genuine, and she was practically harmless so long as one didn't provoke her.
After that, the two got to know one another, and it was safe to say they hit it off quite well. Now, the only people she needed to meet were Yang, Ruby, and Qrow.
Speaking of which...
The door slammed open, revealing the trio I was talking about.
"WE'RE HOME!" Yang and Ruby yelled before walking in.
"Yo," Qrow greeted as he closed the door behind him and sat on the couch facing the kitchen.
It didn't take long for them to notice Uta, who was currently in the kitchen with Summer preparing lunch.
"Who's she?" Ruby asked, pointing at Uta.
"Ruby, it's not nice to point at people," Summer lightly scolded her.
"Sorry..." she said meekly.
"It's ok, sweetie, just remember not to point, ok?" Ruby nodded, making Summer smile. "Good. As for your question, it's better if she introduces herself to you guys."
"Hello~ I'm Uta!~" she greeted everyone with a friendly smile.
"Wait a minute...you Uta...as in Uta Schnee?" Qrow asked, surprised, and Uta's smile slightly faltered at the mention of her last name.
"Yeah..."
"Not to sound like an--a jerk," he quickly corrected himself before accidentally cursing in front of the girls. "But what the heck are you doing here?" he asked out of curiosity.
"Long story short, Me and Uta are engaged," I revealed, shocking him and the girls.
"WHAT?!!" Yang and Ruby screamed in outrage at the same time.
"Holy shit!" Qrow cursed, but it was unheard as Yang and Ruby's screams overlapped his voice.
Only after several minutes of questioning from them did things begin to return to being somewhat normal. I say somewhat because Yang and Ruby weren't happy that I was engaged to Uta, as they were giving her the stink eye, much to my, Summer's, and Qrow's amusement.
After an hour passed, Tai returned and took the girls out to spend time with them.
"So when's the wedding?" Qrow asked before taking a swing from his flask.
"No clue. We'll have to talk to Jacques about that tomorrow," I responded with a shrug and took a bite out of my lunch. "Oh yeah, that reminds me. Wanna be my best man?" I asked after shallowing my food.
Qrow's eyes widened. "Are you sure?"
"Wouldn't ask if I weren't," I replied with an amused tone. "Besides, I'm not particularly close with many guys."
"True, you're mostly in the company of women," Qrow smirked, and I felt two eyes burning into my skull.
Fuck you, Qrow.
Fuck you.
"Oh, is that so?" I glanced at Uta, and she had a smile that didn't reach the eyes. "And who are these women Qrow mentioned?"
"Yeah, I'd like to know too," I glanced at Summer, and her smile was similar to Uta's.
If I were a regular guy, I'd be shitting bricks, most likely. Thank you, Father, for teaching me how not to fear the wrath of a woman.
However, it's still troublesome.
End.
