"Stop that! Please don't! Ouch, you're hurting me... just leave me alone!" Beth thrashed, kicking her legs out and almost kicking Olivia off of the bed. Olivia awoke quickly, gently stroking her niece's hair. She had never felt so helpless before.
"Beth... Beth sweetheart? You're safe now, wake up. It's just a bad dream. Aunt Liv's here now!" She soothed, hugging her tight when she awoke with a start. Beth sobbed so much that she started heaving, she sobbed for her Aunt and everything that had been taken from her on that dreadful night.
"Aunt... Aunt Liv!" She wept pitifully, allowing her Aunt to gather her up into her lap and rock back and forth. Olivia held her tight and kissed her forehead, protecting her from any prying eyes.
"I'm here sweet girl, Aunt Liv has you now. You're safe!" She soothed, drying the young girl's tears with her thumb. They stayed in that position for a while, Beth soaked up as much comfort as she could.
"I was raped..." She whispered pitifully and Olivia's arms tightened around her. She was so proud of her niece; she never imagined that she would actually vocalise it this early on. She rocked them both back and forth on the bed pressing a kiss to her niece's nose, almost as though she was trying to kiss her injury better.
"I know.. I am so sorry this happened to you, my love. I know how much this hurts. What would you like to do now? We will wait until you're ready before we proceed with anything, you're in control here!" Olivia soothed, allowing Beth to nuzzle her face against her chest.
"I do want to report it Aunt Liv... I do! It's just... I need time and I'm so overwhelmed right now," Beth whispered her mind felt like it was going so fast and that she was barely there, almost as if she wasn't in her body at all. Olivia smiled, a warm motherly smile that Beth had missed so much; her own mom having died when she was only 8.
"When was the last time you had something to eat?" Olivia raised her eyebrow, glancing at Beth's frail body. Beth stood up awkwardly, the sweatshirt and sweatpants hanging off her small frame. Seeing her Aunt's concern, she chewed her lip guiltily.
"Last week.." Seeing her Aunt's frown deepen, she chewed her lip more. She'd never been a big eater anyway, then moving to college and not having anyone to chase her to eat meant more often than not, she would forget.
"Come on, let's get you signed out and we will get you something to eat. How does tomato soup and a grilled cheese sound?" She gently flung her arm around Beth's shoulders, taking her to the front desk. Beth thought about it, that did sound quite appetising.
"That does sound good!" Beth whispered, leaning her head close to Olivia's so that she could kiss it. She felt so grateful for her Aunt right now. Once they'd gotten her signed out, they sat in the hospital garden.
"I'm just going to ring Elliott to come pick us up!" Olivia smiled warmly.
Two hours later, they were back at Olivia's apartment. She felt so thankful for her partner; the care and compassion he had shown to both herself and Beth had taken such a weight off of her shoulders.
"Would you like something to drink? I've got tea, coffee, hot chocolate, soda or water?" Olivia grabbed the throw blanket from the couch and wrapped her niece up in it.
"Hot chocolate please, would you come sit with me?" Beth whispered not wanting to be on her own. Olivia smiled, gently stroking her cheek with her thumb. She loved that little girl so much, yes she was 18. But she would always be that 10 year old girl with those huge brown eyes to her.
"Of course, sweetheart. I'll just make our drinks and some food then I'll be back with you!" She kissed her forehead and went back into the kitchen, leaving the young girl to her thoughts.
Beth absentmindedly turned the tv on and put on some Netflix show, not really watching it but it was nice to have something on in the background. Her phone kept buzzing which was slowly beginning to get on her nerves. She'd not looked at it since the attack and against her better judgement, she turned on the phone, her stomach began to do knots.
"Whore!"
"We've seen the video! Why ruin their lives!"
"Tramp!"
"Slut!"
"Go and die!"
Those were just some of the messages she had received, all from unknown numbers, cowards. But what really caught her attention was the text about a video. What video? What were they on about? Beth clicked on the text and very quickly typed a reply.
"What video? What do you mean?"
It hadn't taken long for a link to be sent back to her and my god how she wished that she'd not opened it. Those animals had filmed her, had filmed her being assaulted by 4 members of the college football team! How could anyone think she wanted that! She let out a sob, quickly muffling it with her hand. This was going to be put everywhere now! She had no escape! She wanted her mom, she wanted her mommy.
"Beth, sweetheart what's wrong?" Olivia came out with the soup, sandwich and drink. She placed it on the table in front of them and sat on the couch beside her. Beth laid her head on Olivia's lap and wailed, she knew that she couldn't tell her Aunt about that awful video! She'd never be able to tell her.
"I want mom! I want my mommy!" She wailed as though she was still that 8 year old child who had first lost her mom. Olivia stroked her hair soothingly, her motherly instincts coming out before she could stop them.
"I know sweet girl. Your mama would be so proud of you! It's alright, I know. Come here!" She allowed Beth to sit up and climb on her lap, she made quick work of wrapping her up in her embrace. One thing that was troubling her was the fact that she'd heard nothing from Simon, his daughter had been brutally assaulted and he hadn't spoken to her once.
"Shhh there we go..." Olivia soothed cradling her within her embrace. Beth closed her eyes tight, her Aunt reminded her so much of her mom that she didn't want to leave her embrace.
"Mama..." Beth muttered, gripping onto Olivia's shirt. Olivia's heart broke and all she could do was to keep the teenager close, allowing her to cry for everything she had lost.
"Oh sweetheart... Oh sweetheart! I know, I may not be your mom but I'll always be here. I'll always be here to look out for you! I'll always be there whenever you need me..." She rocked her back and forth until her tears slowed and she was a bit calmer.
"I need to ask you something that's been bothering me... where's your dad? I've not heard anything from him for quite a while actually. Does he know about this?" Olivia said, keeping Beth calm by stroking her hair and planting a kiss to her cheek.
"Dad and I had a massive fight just before I started at Hudson. We've not spoken since, he wouldn't care he hates me! He said so... not only that but he's kicked me out!" Beth muttered bitterly and Olivia couldn't believe it! For 5 months her niece had been fending for herself and she'd not said anything, even though Olivia had been talking to her at least three times a week during that time.
"Beth Elizabeth Marsden! Why didn't you tell me? I've got a spare room here and I certainly would have kicked your dad into touch!" Olivia raised her eyebrow, still keeping her niece close to her. Beth shrunk herself down and laid her head on Olivia's chest, the steady beat of her heart calming her.
"I didn't want to bother you!" She whispered and Olivia frowned, did she not understand just how loved she was! Olivia leaned forward and handed her niece the hot chocolate, prompting her to drink it as she got ready to speak to her.
"You will never be a bother! Day or night if you need me then you call me, you come to the station or you come home. You will always have a home here, do you understand?" Olivia whispered calmly, gathering her up in a huge hug and vowing to kick her brother's ass the next time she saw him.
It was now late in the evening and after a day full of watching cheesy comedy films, binging on chocolate and snuggling on the couch, Olivia had finally settled her niece into the guest room. She had poured herself a large glass of red wine. After everything that had happened, she really needed it.
Once she was onto her second glass, that's when her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and seeing that it was Elliott, she frowned and answered it. She knew it must be important, he wouldn't have bothered her not when he knew what was going on.
"Liv... Olivia, are you sat down?" Elliott sounded breathless, angry... not just angry, livid would be a more appropriate word. Olivia nodded forgetting that he couldn't see her, so she verbalised it.
"Yeah I am, Elliott! What's wrong?" Olivia demanded, she felt her world crashing down around her when she heard him speak next, she didn't think that things could get much worse. Oh god, was she wrong!
"Lizzie... uhm... Lizzie rang me up not too long ago! A video has gone viral around Hudson, I... can't even begin to explain it! But... well those animals filmed Beth's assault! It's gone viral! Over 500,000 people have seen it now and it's rising. Liv... please say something!" Elliott could hear Olivia's heavy breathing, she felt sick! She was going to kill them... actually kill them!
"I want them dead El... for the first time in my career! I want to kill a perp!"
