June, Buffy episode Prophecy Girl
Xander looked at Giles with disbelief. Giles had just informed him and Willow about the Pergamum Codex prophecy.
"Giles, you're the one constantly lecturing us on secrecy. And yet you can't be bothered to maintain any kind of secrecy yourself. You discussed this so called prophecy with open doors where anyone could walk in and hear you. And you discussed it with Angel, of all people, instead of Buffy herself. If you'd waited until she had people around her who could support her, she might not have run off."
"Angel knew about the book and was curious, Xander. After all, he brought it to me. And I had no idea Buffy would over hear us talking."
"You had no idea anyone would overhear you talking. I guess you forgot that's how I found out about all of this, overhearing you and Buffy talking. And you still haven't explained why you discussed it with Angel instead of Buffy."
"He cares about her, Xander. He was concerned."
"Right, of course, cares about her. And where exactly is he while she's marching off to the Master's lair all by herself?"
"He didn't say, I assumed he was going after her."
"Assumed, right." Xander turned away in disgust and saw the weapons housed in the book cage. He quickly realized none of the swords had been taken, nor had any of the other bladed weapons. So what weapon had Buffy taken? Then he realized she'd taken the only crossbow, which was old, and none of the bolts had been taken, which meant she had only the one it was kept loaded with, Xander wondered why she took something she hadn't used beyond one practice session. 'Maybe she's hoping she doesn't have to get close to him. But the Master's old, which with vampires means they get faster. He could dodge and she has nothing else. I'm going to see if Angel is actually going after her. She can't do this alone, it's stupid to think she can. She's obviously not thinking straight after hearing she's prophecized to die, who would?' Jenny Calender, the computer teacher and Giles' friend, along with Willow, were fussing over Giles and didn't notice Xander leave. He headed for Angel's apartment and pounded on the door. 'Maybe I'm already too late and he's gone after her, if he has, there's nothing else I can do. I don't even know where the Master's lair is!'
And then Angel opened the door and Xander realized Angel, who claimed to love Buffy, had no intention of going after her or helping her with the Master. 'He's wearing socks? What's he been doing if he isn't getting ready to follow and help her?' Xander looked past Angel into the apartment and saw...a book on a side table by the couch and a glass of what had to be blood, Angel being a vampire after all. And now Xander was disgusted. 'As if Angel being a vampire isn't bad enough. Now there's proof he doesn't give a shit about her. Its like it never occured to him to help her!'
"What are you doing, Angel?" Xander asked, carefully controlling his anger. "Giles thinks you're helping her. Buffy herself probably thinks you're going to show up just in the nick of time and rescue her. Her Prince, sweeping her off her feet. Instead, your lounging around like you've forgotten she existed."
Angel glared at Xander. "There's nothing anyone can do. If you try, he'll just kill you!"
"Why aren't you trying?"
Angel laughed sarcastically. "Because I'm afraid."
'Coward.' Xander thought. 'Won't even try. All that strength and he hides in the shadows while people die. For a century he's done nothing but wallow and brood. It never even occurs to him to try.'
"Buffy and Willow think you're a person. At the end of the day, I pretty much just think you're just a vampire. It sure would be nice if you at least tried to prove them right." Xander shoved a cross in Angel's face.
Angel glared at him and then put his shoes on and grabbed a jacket. 'Wait, where are his weapons?' Xander thought, as he followed him. 'He told Buffy he hunted vampires, because one killed his family. Which was probably him anyway. But doesn't he do it with weapons? Yeah, Master vampire, but unless he's just going after young vampires that can't hope to match his strength, shouldn't he have weapons when he does it? Unless that was a lie to impress Buffy and he's just a complete coward who doesn't even go after weak, in comparison to him, vampires?'
Xander followed Angel down into the sewers and felt his throat tighten with fear when they found Buffy face down in a pool of water. The Master was obviously gone. Angel pulled Buffy out of the pool.
"She's dead." Angel told Xander, looking sad.
Xander looked at the bite mark on her neck. "If she drowned, there a chance." He told Angel. "CPR."
"I can't, no breathe."
'Then how you talking?' Xander thought, but all he said was. "I can, get out of my way." It didn't take long to revive Buffy, which meant she probably hadn't been gone long.
"Are you alright?" Angel asked her.
"I'm fine." She assured him. She didn't seem to notice Xander. "In fact I'm better then fine. I feel great. He's going to the school. We have to hurry, he's going to open the Hellmouth."
Xander trailed behind, feeling anger and disgust with Angel and concern for Buffy. 'I need to start figuring out how to use an actual weapon.'
On the other side of the country, Jean Grey felt his emotions and wondered once again, who it was she was connecting with and why? And what was making this young mutant feel angry, disgusted and concerned, all at the same time?
