An old man, friends with the Kamados, stopped Tanjiro. "You'd better not go up the mountain now Tanjiro, it's after dark"

Tanjiro hesitated. "But I need to get home!"

"Demons dwell in the forest after dark." The man insisted.

"I…guess I'll stay." Tanjiro sighed. "Thank you. How about I make you some tea?" He went to the kitchen and prepared tea with Kuri's herbs, and handed it to the man.

But when he drank it, he seized up and died, turning to demon dust.

"Sunlight tea…" Tanjiro whispered, and then realized the danger to his family and dashed out in the night.

"What's this?!" Muzan entered the Kamado house and grabbed Reiko by the hair. "Why are you a human?! You are supposed to be awakening and killing your family!"

Reiko struggled. "L-let me go!"

Muzan flinched as his hand brushed Kuri's feather. "A feather! So an angel is behind this?" He ripped the chain and shoved her down, injecting her with a huge amount of his blood, paralyzing her as he killed her family-

"K-krista…." Reiko called out for help as she sscreamed in pain.

Kuri flew to her aid too late as Muzan had already left. and stood in shock. "You're not human anymore…and where's Tanjiro?! Your supposed to…" fly in a rage at his death as you become human and a demon slayer…

Reiko whimpered.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry…this wasn't supposed to happen…you aren't healing,.." Kuri touched her, trying to heal her.

Tanjiro stopped, shocked, seeing Kuri holding the last living member of his family, covered in blood. "W-What..what are you doing?! What did you do?!"

Kuri jerked back, wings stiffening. "It wasn't…I didn't…Tanji…"

Tanjiro grabbed his sister and ran.

"No! Tanjiro! Tanjiro wait!" Kuri launched into flight, chasing them. "I can help!"

Tanjiro blocked protectively. "You hurt her!"

"That wasn't me! Listen to me!" Kuri grabbed him.

"What?"

"Look at your sisters neck. That's my feather, I've been protecting her all this time! You've seen her with it!" Kuri insisted.

Tanjiro saw the feather. "but..how…"

"I-I'm sorry Tanjiro!" Kuri sank to her knees "I couldn't save her…I couldn't save any of them!" except you. Why are you alive…?

Tanjiro was moved by her plea. "You…it's okay…you didn't do this…I'll find out who did…"

Kuri hugged them both. "Let me protect you both. I'm an angel and your my charges." She pet Reiko.

"Let me protect you two." Tanjiro said.

Reiko nuzzled the angel.

Kuri suddenly flinched. "Someone's coming." Her feathers shot out and attacked Giyuu.

Tanjiro got in front of them. "Stop!"

Kuri stopped her feathers. "B-but he was…"

Inosuke was watching from the trees, and had been about to attack.

"I promise she won't hurt anyone." Tanjiro called out.

Reiko looked up into the trees at the hiding Inosuke.

"Why did you stop me?!" Kuri snarled.

Giyuu lowered his blade in confusion.

"because I don't want you to fight if it's unnecessary!" Tanjiro cried. "Sis won't hurt anyone and he doesn't need to attack!"

Giyuu finally spoke. "Is that what your going to do? Avoid fighting anyone? And not protecting anything?" Giyuu grabbed Reiko. "if you stand for nothing, you fall for anything."

Reiko growled and grabbed her brother's hand.

Kuri touched his wrist. "Since you stopped me, your on your own. I cannot act when ordered to halt."

Tanjiro nodded and attacks Giyuu. "Let her go!"

Giyuu tried to stab but when that failed, knock him out, then almost got hit by the hatchet. "You!" He glared at Kuri. "You gave him a master feather! You protected him! Why?!"

"He's my charge! So is that demon girl!" Kuri wasn't surprised when Reiko defended her, getting in front of her protectively.

"A demon charge…how interesting. We're you trying to turn her human and failed?" Giyuu said as Tanjiro woke up at this point. "So you failed your ascension…but that means Muzan was involved…" He leaned close excitedly. "It has been 500 years since an angel has landed…I can't wait to tell master…"

Kuri huffed I hope Tanjiro is alright.

Tanjiro sat up and groaned a bit.

Kuri ran to him. "Are you ok? Are you hurt" Kuri asked, her feather still dangling around his neck.

"Boy!" Giyuu indicated him. "Go see Urokodaki at the base of the mountain. Become a demon slayer."

but that was Reiko's destiny…

" I will." Tanjiro said confidently. "I'm okay Kuri."
