"Flight 2407 to Monterey, California, now boarding," said the voice over the intercom.

"Reiko!" I said, nearly running into her. "Come on! Everyone's already on board!"

"Reiko?" my mom asked. "You know you're supposed to look after your sister!"

"Why am I going again?" Reiko asked.

"The beach," I replied. "We can go surfing. And we can learn cool stuff…like the new dances you wanted to learn."

Reiko sighed. "Okay, I'm coming."

"Whoa…this cabin is huge!" I said, looking around. "Reiko, can I have bottom bunk? I'll fall if I'm on top. I'll try to get down and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and fall onto the floor."

"Ha…ha…has that happened?" Reiko asked.

"I-It has," I pouted.

I threw a pillow at her. "Shut up."

"Kristine, what classes do you have?" Reiko asked me.

"Same as you," i replied. "Creative Writing-Daily, Sketching-Daily, Dance-Daily."

"I'm not in Dance," replied Reiko.

"Hello girls!" said a cheery voice. "I'm Susan, your cabin counselor for the summer. Any questions, feel free to ask! Classes don't start for another hour."

Xxx

"Sketching," I sighed, and opened my sketchbook. "I…I really don't think I can do this."

"Just focus, you'll do fine," replied Mrs. O'Connell, the art instructor. "You have more talent then you think you do, you just lack focus."

I started sketching an apple from the basket of fruit.

There was a boy sketching next to me. I turned to him.

"Time to talk to someone random!" I whispered.

Reiko and I have a tradition that we always talk to someone new in every new class or whatever we start in. This was the first time I'd tried it on a guy however.

"Hello," I said softly in his direction.

He jumped a little. He had obviously been consumed in his thoughts, or maybe his artwork. "H-Hello."

"I'm Kristine," I said. "What's your name?"

"Rein," he replied. "Rin Okumura."

"O-Ku-Mu-Ra…did I say it right?" I asked.

Rin blushed. That's the peach girl…why is she being so nice? She's really pretty…

Oh no! Rin thought. Something's happening! My flames! I can feel them in my fingers! It's too soon for her to find out about us demons!

"Rin? Did I say your name right or not?" I asked.

"Huh? Oh…yeah," he said, not looking at me. Don't react…don't react.

"You aren't supposed to call him by his first name, dimwit," Hiei said. "He's Japanese…so you call him by his last name until he tells you otherwise."

"Oh crap! I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed. "I can't believe…I…"

"Oh! It's okay!" Rin said. "You can call me by my first name if you want."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah!" Rin smiled at me.

"Class, put your sketchbooks away," Mrs. O'Connell said. "It's time for your next class."

"Hn…I only got the apple done…" Rin sighed. "And it looks like crap…"

He showed it to Yusuke.

They both burst out laughing.

"What?" I asked. "It can't be that bad."

"No…really…" he gasped between laughs. "I…wasn't paying attention…so I…drew a fish instead…anyway…have you met my friends?"

"No," I replied.

"This is Kurama, Tomoe, Hiei, Yusuke, and Inuyasha," he said.

"Are those three related?" I aged, looking over at Kurama, Tomoe, and Inuyasha.

They look alike, I thought.

"Not really," Rin said. "Kristine…you want to have lunch with us later?"

"What?" I was shocked by his question.

"Lunch," Rin said again. "We were going to eat on the beach, and I wanted you to be there."

"Sure," I beamed.

Oh no! I'm reacting again! Rin thought. "I'll be there, but right now I have to go!"

He ran out to the back of the building. His heart was racing…and he was blushing still from before. He closed his eyes…and felt himself transform into a demon. It was true then, at close proximity to her, demons were effected so strongly…

"Ha! I saw that!" Reiko said, staring straight at Rin, who had all of a sudden…changed into someone else. "I'm not quite sure I believe it though…"

"You followed him?" Kurama said, approaching. 'I was keeping watch.

"Who are you?" Reiko was a little freaked out.

"My name is Kurama," he said. "I'm a friend of Rin's. And I'm sorry, but you're going to have to forget what you just saw."

He held up his hand, which was glowing. He touched her forehead in an attempt to wipe her memory, but the magic didn't work.

Kurama looked up at her. Suddenly he flinched. .She was a demon!

"Did you just try to use magic on me, Kurama?" Reiko smirked. "Too bad for you, I'm a fox demon too. Are—Are you there here for Kuri?!."

"How did you know?!" Rin asked.

"I didn't," Reiko said. "I do now."

Kurama shot Rin a look.

"Now...why exactly did you transform?" Reiko asked.

"I dunno!" Rin said, frightened.

"Is it because she's the peach maiden?" Reiko raised a vulpine eyebrow.

Kurama stared at her. "What do you know about that?"

"I've been protecting her since birth." Reiko said. "I'm Kuri's familiar. Her family gave me to her when she was born to protect her from demons. Why should I let you guys near her?"

"Have we given you a reason not to?" Kurama asked.

"Hmm…I guess not…" Reiko muttered. "And I really don't want you as my enemy. So…I think I'll show you what makes you all transform around her."

Reiko stepped closer to Kurama, and suddenly kissed him. He transformed into demon form instantaneously.

"Hmm…you're not a bad kisser," Reiko said, smirking. "So…you guys transform if you're near Kuri and feeling romantic…your demon blood gets all excited for mating."

"What? Why do you know?" Rin asked.

Reiko giggled a little, punching Rin lightly on the arm. "You can't fool me, Rin, I've been running with demons a long time. And I won't tell Kristine y'all's big secret. You're my friends now, and…we all kind of have an agreement, right?"

Kurama smiled and nodded. "I just met you, but I can tell I'm going to enjoy working with you…fellow fox."

Reiko grinned and winked.
