Paper Mario in: Rapunzel

A retelling of The Brothers Grimm's fairy tale

Once upon a time, in The Mushroom Kingdom, there lived Toadsworth, the old ruler. He had no children and was alone inside his castle. The reason why Toadsworth is sad is because his child did not really come. One day, Toadsworth noticed a garden filled with lettuces. He was hungry for them, but he didn't want to go over to the garden because it was Tape's garden.

[Paper Toadsworth]

Fresh and green lettuce looks so delicious!

If I could munch and crunch. Have just one bite,

But I can't! It's Tape's garden. He gives me a big fright!

I just have to endure it even if I want to eat.

One night, Toadsworth couldn't overcome his cravings while sleeping. He soon woke up. "I just have to get one lettuce, so I don't really care about getting caught by Tape!" Toadsworth said as he got off his bed. He walked out of his castle and went to the garden. He noticed that the garden was guarded around by a purple streamer. Luckily, Toadsworth got a pair of scissors and cuts around to make a doorway.

Toadsworth sneaked into the garden and took one lettuce, but he was caught by Tape, the anthropomorphic tape with a purple dispenser as his body!

[Paper Toadsworth]

I'm so sorry! Please forgive me!

I am hungry to eat your lettuce!

Have mercy on me!

[Tape]

Ya poor thing!

May your baby born healthy and fine and then,

Dah baby will be mine!

Feeling very shocked, Toadsworth nodded without realizing what he was doing. He ran out of the garden with the lettuce he had and went to the kitchen. Even though he was happy to have the lettuce, he still only has a problem with having a child. "I wish I still had a child." Toadsworth sighed. He ate the lettuce as his dinner and went back to his bedroom. Toadsworth fell asleep on his bed.

Until one day, a beautiful baby princess was born in The Mushroom Kingdom. However, as soon as Toadsworth was about to become one happy father, Tape came into his castle!

[Tape]

Ya stole my precious, green lettuce,

But I will take your precious baby in return!

"Hahahaha!"

Tape named the child "Peachpunzel" which means lettuce. Years passed and Peachapunzel grew up into a pretty princess with very long, golden hair. Everyone from every country loved her because of her beauty and her long hair. Tape grew jealous over the people's opinion of Peachpunzel, so he locked her in a high tower in the forest. There was no door, or stairs in the tower. Whenever Tape wanted to climb the tower, he shouted like this,

[Tape]

Peachpunzel, Peachpunzel,

Let down, let down your hair!

Peachpunzel's hair comes down,

Softly comes down to dah ground!

Hold onto Peachpunzel's hair.

Climb up!

Climb up dis golden stair!

Climb up!

Peachpunzel was alone inside the tall tower most of the time. She was lonely. Whenever she was lonely, she sang a song.

[Paper Princess Peach]

Outside this tower,

I wonder what's out there,

And my song can be heard by others elsewhere.

One day, a coach was riding through the forest. It was driven by a loyal man named Luigi who was the servant of the speechless Prince Mario. They heard the song. "Huh?" Luigi wondered. "Mario, where did the beautiful song come from?" Prince Mario shrugged telling his servant that he didn't know. "Well, I wonder who she is?" Luigi asked. Luigi decided to go to the tall tower. As Luigi and Prince Mario got to the tower, there was no door to enter. This left Luigi with a sigh.

Everyday, Luigi will drive Prince Mario to the forest and still listen to the song. Suddenly, Luigi and Prince Mario saw Tape coming and hid in a bush. They saw Tape calling out Peachpunzel to released her golden hair.

[Tape]

Peachpunzel, Peachpunzel,

Let down, let down your hair!

Luigi was surprised to see the way to get up to the tower. "Mario, I think we should do the same thing." Luigi said. "After he leaves the tower." Prince Mario nodded his head and waited. After Tape left the tower, Luigi and Prince Mario ran to the tower. Luigi shouted,

[Paper Luigi]

Peachpunzel, Peachpunzel,

Let down, let down your hair!

Peachpunzel's hair comes down,

Softly comes down to the ground!

Climb up to that tower.

That's so higher than the trees!

Who would Peachpunzel be?

Who would it be?

Peachpunzel was surprised to see Luigi and Prince Mario. "Who are you?" Peachpunzel asked. Luigi spoke gently to her,

[Paper Luigi]

Don't be afraid.

He's Prince Mario from a neighboring country.

Please, hold his hand now.

Won't you come with him?

[Paper Princess Peach]

Yes! I want to leave this prison!

Would you bring me some silk threads, please?

If I make a rope, I'll go down with ease.

I want to leave with you and I want to live with you!

Luigi and Prince Mario accept her request and bring out some silk threads. Peachpunzel, Prince Mario and Luigi were having a good time until they left the tower. One day, Tape came back to Peachpunzel. Peachpunzel pulled up Tape by letting her hair down. "Hmm… it's odd." Peachpunzel said. "You're smaller than the prince, but it's much heavier to pull you up."

"WHAT?! A PRINCE?! HOW DARE YA MEET A PRINCE BEHIND MAH BACK!?"

[Tape]

Chop, chop, I'll cut your hair!

I'm going to cut all of your hair,

So dat y'all never meet dah prince again!

I'm going to put ya away, far away!

Luigi and Prince Mario had no idea that Peachpunzel was thrown out of the tower. When Tape released Peachpunzel's long golden hair, Luigi and Prince Mario just climbed without knowing anything. The moment Luigi and Prince Mario come up to the top of the tower, they are shocked to find Tape holding Peachpunzel's long hair.

"Where's Peachpunzel?!" Luigi asked in fear. "I sent Peachpunzel to dah deep dark forest and banished her!" Tape explained. Tape dropped the hair that he was holding.

[Tape]

Ha!

Ya will never see Peachpunzel ever again!

Luigi and Prince Mario fall down to the ground. Luigi survived the fall, but he noticed that Prince Mario was hurt. Luigi finds out that Prince Mario lost his sight because his eyes were poked by a thorny vine. "Mario, I will take you until we find Peachpunzel!" Luigi said.

Luigi and Prince wandered around the world to find Peachpunzel, but they couldn't find Peachpunzel anywhere. Suddenly, as they walked into the deep dark forest, they heard a similar beautiful song.

[Paper Princess Peach]

Oh, my dear prince,

Where are you?
I miss you.

I sing everyday.

I hope you hear my song.

It was Peachpunzel's voice and Luigi and Prince Mario were looking for it! Luigi walked and Prince Mario fumbled as they followed the song. "Peachpunzel, are you his Peachpunzel?" Luigi asked. Peachpunzel couldn't stop crying. She shed tears of joy.

[Paper Luigi]

Oh, Peachpunzel's precious tears are falling on his face.

Chorus: Beautiful teary eyes!

His world was once dark, but now it's a bright place.

Oh, now he can see Peachpunzel's beautiful face!

Luigi and Prince Mario bring back Peachpunzel to The Mushroom Kingdom. Toadsworth was very happy to see his daughter again. Luigi has one thing he has to ask.

[Paper Luigi]

Oh, Peachpunzel, his dear,

Will you marry him?

[Paper Princess Peach]

I've been waiting for this moment for years.

Yes! I will!

[Paper Luigi]

He is…

[Paper Princess Peach]

We are…

[Paper Luigi and Paper Princess Peach]

Together forevermore!

Peachpunzel and Prince Mario gave birth to twins and live happily ever after!
