Ominous Flame
Chapter 69
Author Notes: This is it. 69 chapters and we've reached the end. Phew. Been a long time coming(too long with how busy I've been lol) so let's do this guys. One final time, time to see what happened with a decently long chapter. I do not own Digimon.
3rd P.O.V
Sun peeked through the slips of the window curtain. It snuck its way to Shinya bed, causing him to peek open his eye. His alarm clock blinked at him, revealing in big bright numbers eight-fifty-three in the morning.
It took a minute for the blurriness in his eyes to clear, but when it did he snapped awake with a wide grin. "Yes!" With a excited whisper, the young boy leaped out of his bed, wasting no time to get dressed.
A striped green and white t-shirt, black shorts and sneakers quickly replaced the pijamas he had on. Last but not least, he grabbed the goggles his brother gave him. He held it as if it was a precious treasure.
Considering that despite the accident, it came out completely unscathed...and was gifted to him by his brother who fought the odds to live, it was. Ducking his head, he threw the straps over, landing perfectly against his chest.
Carefully and quietly he tiptoed out of his room, biting his lip as he opened the door to his brother's room. He winced when the old door creaked, groaning no matter what speed was used to widen the space.
Thankfully he only opened it so he could check on his brother. It's been almost a year since the accident, a little over eleven months. Time meant nothing when it came to checking on the older teen.
Much to his relief, the brunette was still out like a light. Speaking of light, his breathing was soft. It was so quiet compared to the snores Shinya used to hear, even after all this time. Nothing was the same after Takuya got hit by that truck.
Those couple of months after he first woke up was a terrifying experience. Because those stupid doctors didn't know what they were doing (or cared) they worsened his condition, putting him into a mini coma.
It was a miracle that he woke up, let alone with doctor Ikuro being the one to check in on him. With his wake up call came consequences. Insomia and attacks were just a few. "Good...he's still asleep." Good days were uncommon. Good nights were even rarer.
He knew that Takuya was trying to hide them from him as he slowly recovered, not wanting to worry him. But he was aware of last night. It wasn't so much as a heart attack nor was it exactly a panic induced one, but some sort of combination that resulted in a shortness of breath and his heart beating at a fast unstable rate.
For a few minutes Shinya sat outside of his brother's room, holding his knees as he listened to the older boy's suffering. His doctors couldn't come up with any sort of explanation, the best answer they could've possibly given was some special form of ptsd.
Whatever that stood for he had no clue, just that it was bad. "Morning sweetie." His mother was already in the kitchen, working on breakfast. "Hi mom." A familiar aroma filled the kitchen, making him grin.
"You're already working on it?" A hum escaped her as she ladled some pancake batter into the pan, ready to add to her already large stack. "I have no idea what you mean. What are you doing up so early?" Shinya swiped the top pancake, wincing at how hot it was before grabbing a paper plate.
Then he took another. "I'm heading over to meet Tommy. He told me last night that everyone was going to meet at the park before arriving here." She hesitated for a minute before giving her youngest son a kiss on the cheek. "Alright, be careful." That statement held so much weight.
Shinya knew that his parents haven't exactly recovered either. If it were up to them, then the two kids wouldn't leave the house. Surprisingly it was Takuya who told them to relax, that what happened was an accident and that keeping them cooped up wouldn't solve anything. "Love you."
The thing was...Shinya was aware that what happened wasn't an accident at all. Tommy told him everything. And once Takuya found out he knew, revealed some details he didn't even tell his friends. That was why today had to be perfect. No mater what.

"Here are your flowers, ma'am. That will be twenty-six-hundred yen." The middle aged woman gasped at the beautiful custom done bouquet presented to her. "Ohh, thank you young man. This looks lovely." Koichi smiled, glad that it pleased her.
It's been three months since he started working at the flower shop, so he'd like to say he's learned the ropes, but some days were better than others. "I hope your daughter enjoys them." Despite some of the more nasty customers that came in, he loved this job.
He had never known that flowers could have so many different meanings. Then again he never thought he'd ever hold conversations with talking flowers, but he remembered fondly the kind Floramon that he met earlier on his travels with the group.
"Ohhh you're such an angel, if my daughter wasn't already about to get engaged, I'd hook you up with her~ Have a nice day." There was also a lot of that, it was a miracle this woman didn't pinch his cheek.
Shaking his head, he sighed when the door closed. "That's another satisfied customer in the books, Koichi!" Turning around, he found his boss at the counter, writing in the final details to the transaction. "Done with your break Ms. Sakita?"
She smiled with a nod before taking a glance at the clock. "Yep yep! That means it's time for you to head out. You said you wanted to leave early today right?" His eyes widened at the reminder. Following her gaze, he saw the clock, sighing in relief.
Despite the rush of orders today, he still had time to get to the park. "Yes, thank you!" He faintly heard the older woman giggle as he rushed about cleaning up the area and putting away his apron.
"Don't forget to give your boy the bouqet I made him! I demand to see him in the next couple days." A blush formed on his cheeks at that, but smiled warmly as he picked up the bundle of flowers his boss made.
Sunflowers for a speedy recovery, yellow mums for friendship, yellow lilies for joy, lavender for peace and serenity and finally orange gladiolus for positivity. He really had to give it to Ms. Sakita for her thoughtfulness. Not only were all the colors lively and bright, but without meaning to, she arranged them to where they looked like a fire.
It was beautiful as well as reminded him of the times when Takuya was Agunimon or when they spent nights by the campfire. It was also was a bit different than his flower bundle that was hidden in his locker.
The young florist also chose sunflowers for a speedy recover, though his was a bit darker. Then there was gladiolus, but instead of orange, it was red for passion. Astransia was used for inner strength and courage, bluebells represented Takuya's kindness and humillity.
Little bits of aster were there for wisdom and faith and finally black iris for mystery and independence. Now that he thought about it, the darker colors and tones was that of Shagumon and Saldomon. The two spirits Takuya originally had and in the end saved his life.
He hoped Takuya liked these alongside the one other present he got for him. "Koichi! Running late!" Jolted out of his throughts, he looked at the time on his phone, gasping at not only the time, but also the message from his brother.
Koji: Change of plans. Everyone's running late, so we're all meeting at Takuyas
With a small curse, the warrior of darkness grabbed both sets of flowers, thanking his boss one more time before going for the door. "Go get him kid!" Did...did she know? Obviously she saw his flower arrangement so she knew how he felt about Takuya but there was no way she knew knew.
At least that was what he was hoping as he ran down the street. One of the benefits of working at Ms. Sakita's shop was that it was actually pretty close to all of his friends' houses since it was quite literally in the center of Shibuya.
The less distance, the better in his opinion. Still, he hated running, actually exercise as a whole even if he was still physically capable of it. He blamed his brother for that one. The flowers were carefully cradled in his hand when he finally arrived at the Kanbara residence.
Knocking on the door, he caught his breath, ready to collapse as sweat poured down his face. "Koichi!" Tommy answered the door, hugging him tight while still being careful about the flowers. "Hey Tommy, is everyone else here?"
At that the younger boy shook his head. "Nope, you're the first one here after me. Shinya brought me pancakes before forgetting that he had to clean his room, so we rushed back." A snort escaped the raven haired teen.
After meeting the younger brother, Koichi couldn't say he was surprised. A good kid, but lacked a bit of common sense. "I take it his mother found out?" Together the two walked in, the sweet aroma of breakfast and birthday cake filled the air.
"Nope, she's been in the kitchen this whole time, but Shinya figured it would be better to get it done before she saw." The two shared a grin before the warrior of ice escorted him into the kitchen. "Koichi's here Mrs. Kanbara!" She casted a smile over her shoulder just in time to see him bob his head in greeting.
It took everything in him not to utter out a similar greeting. "Now what have I told you Tommy? Call me Yuriko or Aunt Yuriko!" If there was one common trait this family shared, it was the serious lack of formality. "How are you today Yuriko? Do you need some help?"
She waved her free hand away. "No no! Thank you Koichi, but I got things handled here. Why don't you go get Takuya up? Motivate him with a little present or two." There was something in the older woman's tone that was teasing.
He wanted to believe she meant the actual gifts he had prepared for the brunette but seeing her mischevious grin, he wasn't so sure. Honestly it was baffling that Takuya's family was even ok with their relationship...however he never expected this.
"Ah...sure?" Satisfied, the chef went back to work. Tommy snickered at his blush before going back into the living room, leaving Koichi to pray to the cieling for a moment. His legs carried him through the worn floor hallway, opening the door.
His eyes widened before his boyfriend's name could leave his lips. The birthday boy was up, clutching his chest as he went through another attack. "Takuya." The flowers were gently put down on his nightstand so Koichi could hold the boy to his chest.
A sharp hiss left the brunette's lips but thankfully he was aware of who was in the room. He didn't summon his fire. "I'm here. It's ok." Koichi whispered those words and more into his hair, rocking him gently.
"Sorry..." Apologies were always the first set of things to leave his lover's mouth. "Don't be. It's not your fault." Between his time as Cherubimon's minion, constantly fighting for his life in the Digital World, to being run over and comatose, it was no wonder there were setbacks.
Though he's recovered physically due to therapy, there was little to be done with his rare case of ptsd that caused spasm like reactions to his heart. "Doctor...Ikuro said tomorrow I'd start a new medication that might help."
Thankfully Takuya was able to relax, returning to reality sooner than normal. They were babysteps in the right direction. "Not today?" He felt the pyromancer shake his head against his chest.
"Medicine could make me more tired than usual with a few other side effects. Nothing too bad this time around, but I told him I didn't want to take it today. I want to be awake and alert so I can enjoy the party." Takuya laced their hands together, pecking his boyfriend on the cheek.
A small sigh escaped the other teen, but he couldn't say anything. He understood. "Try to take it easy alright? At the very least don't argue with my brother." Together the two get off the bed. "You're really limiting me here, teasing the hell out of him has become my favorite hobby."
It was one of the only things he was really able to do. "Please? Last thing we need is him blowing a gasket." Now it was Takuya's turn to sigh. For now, he would relent. Putting his full attention to the flowers that were brought in.
"These are nice." Koichi watched as he stroke the petals, a nostaglic gaze. "The yellow and oranges are from my boss. She said she wants to see you within a few days." That smile on the tan male's face widened. "I'll be sure to do that. Gotta thank her after all. Though I seem to be missing a gift." There was a knowing look in those amber eyes, his grin turned smug.
Causing his lover in turn to sulk. "Who spoiled the surprise?" Takuya's answer was simply to zip his lips while pockets were searched. "My little secret." And here Koichi hoped they would be done with those, guess some habits were hell to break.
At least this one was harmless. "Happy birthday Takuya." A silver chained necklace with a little fire charm was placed over his head. "Looks even better than I was told. Thanks Koichi." The two shared a chaste kiss before a series of knocks erupted from behind the door. "Takuya everyone's here!"
The two shared a look. They weren't surprised...but they were disappointed. "Ready?" Hand in hand they headed for the door. "Always."
The end
Author Notes: Ohhhhh it's over. It's finally over! *cries* I never have to worry about uploads for this story again. It's bittersweet really. I really liked writing this story. I managed to set out what I wanted.
I even threw in some fun twists that I didn't see coming and wrapped it up in a hopeful ending that had realistic setbacks and problems for Takuya-because I can't let the boy be 100 Percent a-ok lol.
I hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did but it's time to wrap up. Everyone thank you all for reading my story. If you liked it please feel free to fav/follow/review as it would mean so much to me. I'll see you all next time. Tchao for now.
