Apologies, repost, changed which character I wanted to involve in a scene.
Aries and Capri caught up with Ruby and her sister easily enough, her sister's large golden mane made it very easily to locate her in the crowd of people, then again their striking red and black hair also probably made them easy to spot as well... not the mention the horns.
"Hey! Ruby!" Aries called out as they came up behind them, not wanting to surprise them when they got too close.
Ruby and her sister turned around in some confusion, but her older sister elbowed her sister slightly. "So you did make some friends, I knew you had it in you." A dumb grin on her face, happy her sister could get along with other people, but then the smile broke as she realized who it was, she didn't have the same view as Ruby that the fight was 'cool'. "You are the kid that got into a fight on the ship." A statement, not a question, and one loaded with her concern for her younger sister.
"Yaaaannng! He was just standing up for his sister!" Ruby said as she clinged onto her sister. "Those boys were saying bad things about her, that's why he did that."
"Oh! That right?"
"Yeah... the things they were saying... honestly they're lucky I only got to two of them." Aries looked slightly bashful, Capri wasn't supposed to find out about that part. They were talking about things young men do, right next to him, as if they were trying to get a rise out of him. It did work, and his threat was not their first exchange, and he doubted it would be their last exchange.
Capri looked at Aries, her eyes betraying her guilt over headbutting him in the Auditorium at this point. She thought he had just heard something he didn't like and picked a fight, she wasn't worried about him getting hurt, she doubted most of the students here could hurt him without weapons. 'He was too tough for that, he was strong, like Adam... unlike me.' This thought made her uncomfortable and she shook her head to drive it away. "Thanks Aries... but next time don't start a fight... okay? If it's just words..."
"They... they..." His anger was reignited by his sister trying to brush it off, she hadn't heard what they were saying. Blood rushed to his face, turning it a deep red color as he tried to take a few breaths to calm down. "Okay." It sounded like the acceptance of a man on death row being told to take a seat. "I'll try." That was the best he could offer.
"Yang... they're our opposites... hehe" Ruby whispered to Yang, Yang was the overprotective older sister, but here the little brother was overprotective.
Yang gave a nod and held out her hand to them. "Yang Xiao Long, this is my little sister."
"Ruby Rose!" She interjected, clearly wanting to introduce herself.
Capri took both their hands awkwardly at the same time and smiled. "Capri Szarvak, this is my little brother Aries Szarvak, our oldest brother is... somewhere."
"Heard that, taking a walk with the Princess huh?" Yang said with a waggle of the eyebrows. "Trying to get all alone, and private huh?"
Capri giggled while Ruby and Aries made sounds of disapproval and disgust at the implication. "I doubt it'll be like that... we... have grievances with her family's company... I thought if he talked with her he'd be able to feel better..."
"What happened?" Yang asked, as subtle as a battering ram that one.
Capri and Aries both looked away from her curious eyes and Capri unconsciously brought her hand up and rubbed the place her scar was beneath her clothing. "I'd rather not say... it's very personal and private..." Her tone was sad, and even Yang noticed she touched a sensitive subject.
"Oh, sorry... anyway..." She struggled to find a new subject.
Ruby had her one interest that flared up as she brought her weapon out in a flourish, always happy to show it off. "Well, this is Crescent Rose, I made her while at Signal. Our Uncle Qrow helped me forge it. She's a scythe and a customizable, high impact sniper rifle with two combat forms and a travel form so it doesn't get in the way." She beamed proudly about her weapon, Yang was wearing Ember Celica, they were so much easier to hide it made Ruby jealous but she couldn't figure out how to make Crescent Rose any smaller without having to take parts off and she couldn't do that to her baby. "Where's yours?" She seemingly floated around the two of them, scanning for anything that could indicate a hidden weapon.
Aries gave a bit of a sigh, they were unarmed because of their circumstances of being special admittance students. Their equipment was sent ahead of time so they weren't walking around with their weapons in the city.
"Ohhhhh... so... what do you use?" Ruby asked, excited to talk about her one true love... weapons.
Aries stepped back a bit as Yang grabbed ahold of Ruby to keep her from invading his personal space any further. "Um... my weapon is called Sunlight, it's a gold and red-orange halberd, it can retract and become a rifle, or even fire while fully extended but I can't shoulder it while it is like that. It also has a spike at the bottom of the half when fully extended that retracts under a different command. It is paired with special gauntlets called Moonlight, they're white and black and they protect my hands as well as enhancing the impact of my punches and throws with a Dust infusion."
"Oh you fight with your hands too?" Yang seemed excited, most Huntsmen and Huntresses, even those in training focused so much on weapons ignoring the natural weapons they already had. Even without the Ember Celica she could fight off a Grimm or two, no sweat.
Aries gave a nod. "If I need to. The Frontier doesn't always give you a chance to have your weapon with you... especially if you think you are safe."
This seemed to have caught them offguard. "Wait, wait, you guys are from outside of Vale?" Yang asked, Capri and Aries both nodded, their eyes a little sad.
"Oh... ummm... I use a saber named Tooth, and a pistol named Claw. They both are white and silver in color." Capri cut in, explaining her weapons, it was a simple and easy to use combination. She could fight competently at range and close up, she hadn't specialized into ranged or close quarters, preferring to be able to assist from either range as possible to not burden anyone during a fight.
They made their way into the Ballroom to try and claim a good spot before it was filled up completely. Their chatter tried to steer away from anything too personal.
Several hours passed and the sun had already set the four of them had settled near one of the corners of the large room, Ruby was writing something, having talked herself out earlier, Yang laid down near Ruby and was looking out among the crowd of people. Aries and Capri were also looking at the crowd but for different reasons, Adam hadn't shown up yet.
Yang laughed a bit as if something just occurred to her. "It's like a big slumber party!"
Ruby grunted without looking up from the writing she was doing. "I don't think Dad would approve of all the boys, though."
Yang gave a predatory growl, or maybe a purr. "I know I do." She was looking towards several guys nearby who were showing off shirtless, wrestling or flexing. "What you writing?"
"A letter to the gang back at Signal. I promised to tell them all about Beacon and how things are going." Still she didn't look up from the letter.
Aries sat up and stretched a bit... "Let's go get dressed Capri." Unlike the others he didn't feel comfortable changing in front of others, and obviously Capri wouldn't change in the open, and she didn't really change in front of other girls if she could avoid it so they were still walking around in their street clothes. Yang and Ruby waved but they were beginning to argue about something but the Szarvaks slipped away to find a private room to change into their pajamas.
They found a set of bathrooms and Capri went into the girls' bathroom while Aries waited outside to make sure no one walked in on her changing. It wasn't completely necessary, she could just hide in one of the stalls but he was worried about her. And his worries were given credence when three female students approached the bathroom, he didn't recognize them. Stepping to block the door he went to speak before one of them did.
"Move hornhead, stop blocking the girl's bathroom." No hesitation, of course, humans were like this... not all of them, he got along with Ruby, and that scrawny blonde guy Jaune, but... more often than not there was this was his experience with humans outside of their hometown.
Capri had told him not to start any more fights, he took a deep breath before speaking, trying to sound calm. "My big sister is changing, can you wait just a couple minutes?" This was met with a chorus of laughs.
"Oh sure, yeah, I'll leave your sister alone." Aries was about to let out a sigh of relief. "Now move." Their leader stepped forwards, and made to put her hands on him to move him out of the way so she could get into the bathroom. Aries held his arms out blocking the door.
"Not until my sister comes out." This made two of them start laughing at him.
"Such a good dog."
"Hardheaded, but what could you expect from them?"
"Silva, Heather, let's just wait, it's not that big a deal is it?" The third girl said seeming annoyed by the delay but wasn't participating in the taunting, maybe she wasn't like them. "Just let it go." Her tone this time seemed to be indicating she noticed something that they hadn't.
"Why? Why should we..." The third girl grabbed the lead one and whispered in her ear quickly, thinking Aries couldn't hear even though they were just a few few away, barely even out of reach.
"Because he's the psycho that put Cardin and Russel in the infirmary, it isn't worth it. He fought the four of them together and look, he doesn't even have a bruise." This warning caused the lead girl's face to drain of color and the haughtiness vanished, bullying was one thing, but actually fighting wasn't what they were out to do.
Trying to sound calm she nodded and took a step back. "Fine, let's wait for this hornhead's sister to come out, shouldn't be too long."
Aries growled at the insult but didn't step forwards to approach them, he could take the insults directed at him, but if they said anything about Capri he'd lose it. Already he was at the end of his patience of dealing with these girls, but he made a promise to Capri to try and reign in his temper. "Just a couple minutes..." He tried to be polite but even so his voice had an edge to it.
The girls gave a glare but didn't say anything further, a minute or two past and Capri came out, seeing that Aries had stop people from coming in she shook her head slightly. "Aries, it's alright." She put a hand on his shoulder and guided him out of the doorway. She was wearing a light blue button up shirt, matching pajama pants, and slippers, the rest of her clothes were in the bag she was holding. "You need to go get dressed for bed too."
Turn to the other girls she gave a soft smile. "I'm sorry, my brother is a bit overprotective..."
"Of course, wouldn't want anyone seeing you getting caught up on your shirt." The lead girl said as she led the other two into the bathroom without looking back, missing the lunge of Aries who was held in place by Capri's solid grip on his arm with the other wrapped around his chest as if she was giving him a hug.
Capri squeezed his arm and gently knocked her head against the side of his. "It isn't worth it, you already got in trouble once today..." Letting him go she motioned towards the men's restroom. "Get changed, we'll see if Adam's back once you are ready."
Aries struggled for a second but her eyes went from gentle to the angry older sister commanding eyes and he dropped his head before going into the bathroom. Ducking inside he pulled off his small bag and dug through it, inside was his uniform, a change of clothes, some extras, and his pajamas which he pulled out. Much like Capri they possessed buttons to make it easier to get the shirt on, no one in their family wore over-the-head shirts, too likely to rip a huge hole in them after all. His pajamas were a black color with some red lines on the back, slipping out of his clothes and into the pajamas as quick as he could, he didn't want to leave Capri out there in case the girls wanted to cause her problems.
Finding himself shocked, there was a tall young man leaning up against the wall next to Capri chatting with her while smiling, someone he didn't know and it made him uncomfortable. "Ah, all done little bro?" The boy asked, pushing off the wall, it seemed in the few minutes Aries was in the bathroom Capri did the same for him, intercepting others from seeing the scar on his chest. The boy was very well built but thin, his button up shirt was unbuttoned entirely, probably a front line fighter based on the way he held himself, his blood red eyes though seemed friendly though his shoulder length black hair hiding part of his face and demeanor made Aries uncomfortable. The tan skin made Aries think he was from Vacuo. "Shame, was hoping to talk with your wonderful sister some more." He laugh as he went to walk into the bathroom but found Aries was blocking him with an arm.
"Were you harassing my sister?" Aries eyes glinted evilly, the boy was taller than him, but that didn't mean he couldn't win the fight.
"Huh?" The boy and Capri seemed surprised by his reaction, Capri had been smiling but her face had been turned away from the bathroom entrance.
"Aries!" Capri grabbed his horn and yanked him out of the entrance causing him to let out a confused and shocked whine. "Daiki was being sweet!" She turned to the boy and gave a sorry smile. "My brother's a bit overprotective, sorry."
Daiki shook it off and walked into the bathroom with a wave. "No worries, he doesn't know me, I'd be wary of some stranger trying to steal my older sister... if I had one."
"Steal?!" Aries got angry at the idea of someone treating Capri like property, something that could be taken and he went to struggle against Capri's grip, but she just yanked him downwards throwing off his balance again.
"See you guys later!" Daiki waved and went into the bathroom, all confidence and friendliness, who did he think he was, Aries raged in his head, but Capri's grip was solid and he couldn't escape.
Pulling him away from the bathrooms and back towards where they had left Ruby and Yang she tutted at him. "Daiki's nice, he didn't even question when I told him he couldn't go in since you were changing, he just leaned up against the wall and began to talk with me." She shook his head roughly. "You be nice to him."
"Wait... do you like him?!" Aries cried out in shock, and his voice carried a bit drawing a few eyes to the pair. Though he realized he made a mistake as Capri began to shake his head wildly, babbling and denying the accusations of having a crush on a boy she just met, Aries struggled to keep his feet against her onslaught.
"Like who?" Yang's interest was caught in the widely thrown net.
"No one, we just spoke for a couple minutes... it isn't a big deal..."
"So what's he look like? Tall?" A smirk came onto the blonde girl's face. "Has he been walking around without a shirt on? Is he hot?"
Aries made a gagging sound at the conversation and Capri let him go blushing madly at the insinuations being made.
"So he is, both of you seem to agree!" Yang laughed and went over to throw her arm around Capri and brought her over to sit down... "Tell Mama Yang all about him." She was clearly bored trying to talk with her gun nut sister about boys and now she had a new target. Aries laid down on a blanket on the floor and stuck his tongue out at Yang and Capri.
"He... um... he was nice."
Yang nodded and motioned for more with her free hand. "Yeah, nice... and?"
"And he had red eyes, like rubies... not Ruby's but... the little rocks. Or maybe Fire Dust Crystals."
"Yeah and!?" Trying to get more information about this unknown hottie that got her new friend all bothered.
Aries made another, more exaggerated gagging noise at this conversation as if he was going to be horribly sick. This drew some eyes and even had someone coming over... this person caught all four of their attention, it was Weiss Schnee.
"What in the world is going on over here?! Don't you realize some of us are trying to sleep?" She demanded and she seemed shocked at the group causing a scene.
"Not you again!" Yang and Weiss said at the same time.
Ruby looked up and was caught off guard, she wasn't even involved this time but tried to mediate. "Maybe we should stop and go to sleep, she's right people are trying to sleep."
"What's your problem anyway?" Yang asked.
"Your group is a hazard, to my health and safety!"
"What do you mean?"
"First your sister tries to blow me up, then their brother, cousin, or whatever threatened me!"
This brought the matter to the front... Adam still hadn't shown up yet. "Wait... what did you do with Adam?!" Aries surged to his feet from his laying position. "Where is Adam?!"
"I don't know, I left him at one of the courtyards, I haven't seen him since then. Thank goodness, he's mad!"
"If something happened to my brother, you'll..." Capri and Aries' scrolls chimed at the same time.
Adam woke up in the infirmary, the nurse sitting at her desk nearby and Blake sitting beside his bed. His entire body ached, it hurt to even open his eyes, as if he had been ripped apart and put back together piece by piece. It hurt, but nothing felt broken at least. "Ughhh..." Blake stood up and looked down at him, some mild concern visible on her face.
The nurse came over, and looked over him. "Good, you are awake... your friend didn't tell me what happened to you before she brought you here."
Adam slowly, carefully sat himself up, his body screaming in protest but he willed himself to get up. "I... I don't know... I was arguing with someone when I suddenly lost control..."
The nurse tapped out a note on her scroll, nodding along with what he said, not particuarly believing the story he was giving. "No one attacked you, blew Dust in your face, or otherwise assaulted you prior to your 'loss of control'?"
"No, nothing like that happened."
The nurse nodded and continued to tap on her scroll. "Your body is currently rejecting something, as if your whole body had a poor reaction to something." The nurse looked him in the eye for a moment. "The blood from your eyes, nose, and ears made me believe you had been poisoned but there is nothing in your blood tests to show that it had happened. You don't appear to have suffered a sudden bleeding in the brain or an aneurysm, we don't have any idea what happened to you right now... and your muscle seem as if you had pushed every single one of them to their limit."
Adam nodded his head slightly, that's how he felt. Perhaps it was an after effect of whatever Artemis and Apollo had done to him. "I'm sore, but besides that I think I'll be okay." They wouldn't let him just die on his first day back. "How long have I been unconscious?" For some reason he felt the need to check in with Aries and Capri, they must be looking for him, having been gone long enough for the sun to have set already.
"About four hours, maybe a little more." Blake said, putting a hand on his shoulder. "You sure you are alright?"
Adam shrugged his shoulder roughly to get her hand off of him, his voice came out biting and venomous. "I'm fine, Blake." For a moment he wanted to yell at her to go away, but she had dragged him here after he had lost consciousness, and seemed to have stayed with him the entire time.
The nurse saw the conflict and shook her head. "Miss Belladonna please return to the Ballroom for the night, I'll care for Mister Szarvak. He'll stay here tonight for observation." She was giving Blake an out, so she wouldn't have to deal with the aggression of Adam now that he was awake and clearly not her friend.
Blake nodded and didn't say anything else before leaving the room, her steps audibly increasing in speed once the door closed, she was practically running.
"Now, Mister Szarvak, your rude behavior will stop. What exactly happened before you ended up in the state you were in."
"I was arguing with another student! Why does it matter!?" Adam shot back, his voice getting louder, angrier at the interrogation by the nurse.
"Your brother and sister are probably worried about you." The nurse stated calmly, reminding Adam of his new family situation.
"Shit!" He pulled his scroll out of his pocket and began to type out a message. 'Got sick, in the infirmary, staying here tonight.' His message went through quickly, there were times in the past where he wasn't able to send messages so easily being outside of the Kingdoms.
"Now that that is settled. You'll need to come check in every few days, at least for the foreseeable future to ensure your health is stable." The nurse gave him a small push to force him to lay back down. "Now go back to sleep, I'll check on you in the morning to determine if you are able to participate in the Initiation Ceremony."
A buzz from Adam's scroll, Capri replied to him.
'Do you want us to come see you? Did Weiss hurt you? Did someone attack you?'
Adam shook his head and replied. 'No.' It wouldn't do them any good to come up and see him laying in the infirmary, especially without any visible injuries, the blood on his face had been cleaned up.
Another message came through, the sender of this one was scrambled, an nonsensical gibberish but the message below was easily read;
'You are fine, physically at least. The blood discharge was unexpected, but you are showing no further anomolies. In several hours you should be completely healthy once again.
-A&A'
Adam grunted and put his scroll back in his pocket, attempting to fall asleep.
