MARA

She could hear him yelling from the other room. He was furious…..despondent. He was like a mad man. When they got away from the airport, Adi went nuts…throwing things and even going outside in the field behind the safehouse shooting at anything that moved. They had been using the Virginia farmhouse as their headquarters for the past few days. Mara knew they would be moving to another location soon. Adi didn't want to be in the same location for too long. He liked to move around.

She watched as Phyllis and three others walked out of the room. She was sitting on a couch that sat in the foyer of the house. They barely glanced at her as they headed out of the front door. She could hear their trucks and motorcycles starting and heading down the driveway. She could hear Adi walking down the hallway towards her. He ran his fingers through his hair and sat down next to her.

"We're moving to the Georgetown house. Phyliss and the others are heading there now. Once I get there I have to get in touch with Beirut. They won't be pleased. I've got to think of something! Scarecrow has once again anticipated my moves. It's like he knows what I am about to do. But that can't be."

She took his hand "It will be alright. Beirut will understand." He stood back up and said "Not only do I have to destroy Stetson…I need to find his source" She nodded and said " I'll go now and pick up something to eat for us." She stood and walked out. She had to get away from him. She didn't want to give herself away. She sighed in relief that he barely acknowledged her leaving. She knew he was desperate and would do anything at this point. She prayed that Scarecrow would stop him soon. She was afraid of what Adi would do. He was unpredictable at this point.

Later on at the Georgetown house she knocked on the door and she saw that Adi was on the phone. He didn't look happy. After hanging up he grabbed the box of chicken from her and threw it across the room. He ran his hands through his hair and said again "I've got to think of something!" Mara knew that at this point Adi was slowly unraveling and it wasn't good.

She nodded and went to pick up the box of food. She placed it on the cot that was against the wall. She sat down and watched Adi. He was pacing back and forth. He was mumbling to himself. Mara opened the box of food and started munching on a piece of chicken. She never took her eyes off of Adi. He was thinking of his next move. He was furious that Scarecrow ruined things at the airport. Would he know that it was her that helped Scarecrow? What would he do to her? She knew that he wouldn't hesitate in killing her. It was worth it if Scarecrow could catch Adi. He needed to be stopped and Scarecrow was closing in. She was lost in thought when he stopped pacing.

He looked at her and smiled. "Ah ha! I know what to do! I'll have Scarecrow on his knees!" She smiled back at him and he walked over to her. "I'll need you to deliver something…soon. I'll let you know when. I have some things to do first." He kissed her on her forehead and walked out the door.

Mara sat in the photo booth as she waited for Lee Stetson. She delivered the taped message to the CSN news desk earlier in the morning. Adi wanted an interview. She wasn't sure what his plan was but he seemed sincere about the interview. So she walked into the little offices of CSN and handed them the package containing the tape. She also managed to get a message to Lee. She needed to let Lee know she was okay. She also knew he would want to talk to her about Adi's plan. Adi and his lieutenants spent most of the night arguing about the plan. In the end Adi, of course, got what he wanted and their plan was set.

She heard Lee step into the booth and the familiar sound of change being dropped in the machine.

"Is it for real? He asked.

"I think so. He was despondent after the airport, like I've never seen. He wants the interview."

"Who's he told?"

"Phyllis. Everyone. I am safe." She stood up and walked outside to the edge of the booth. She watched as Lee walked from his side of the booth and back towards his car.

She turned away from him and walked down the street. Her thoughts were all over the place. The guilt she felt regarding being a part of Birol's organization was overpowering. She reminded herself that Adi wouldn't hesitate in killing her if he found out she was in fact Nightcrawler. She didn't care. She was willing to put her life on the line. She needed to do this. She needed to put an end to Adi Birol. She'd have to pay for the consequences of her actions but anything would be better than watching Adi terrorize the world.

She got back to her car and took a deep breath. Within twenty four hours her nightmare would be over. Scarecrow would come through and Adi would be either in jail or dead. She drove back to the Georgetown house praying that everything would go smoothly.
