Episode 5: Not Quite Famous

"Last time, on Total Drama Island! The Screaming Gophers faced their second loss against the Killer Bass. There were bruises and risky moves on both sides of the field, and in the end, it was MK the Misdomeaning who didn't see it coming."

"This week, another challenge will send one more camper on a cruise to Loserville, Population: Four. Who will sink, and who will stay afloat? Find out right now, on Total! Drama! Island!"

The episode opened in the Gophers' cabin, where the sounds of scribbling were heard. Gwen woke up to it, and she saw Millie writing in her journal.

"I'd hate to interrupt you, but you're being a bit too noisy," Gwen told the author.

Millie paused what she was doing as soon as she heard the goth. "Oh, sorry. I just had a lot to write about this island."

"Tell me about it," Gwen rolled her eyes. "I have a diary for that sort of thing, but I have a lock on it so that nobody could read it."

"That's a good way of planning ahead," Millie noted as she wrote, "but what if someone finds the key?"

"I keep it with me at all times," Gwen replied. "I'd have to be an idiot to either hide it under my pillow or leave it under our bunk beds."

Confessional: Millie

"I've only been on this island for a couple of days, and so far, Gwen's the only person I feel like I can talk to," Millie said. "I don't know if I'm ready to tell her a few personal things, like why I write in my journal or who I'm crushing on here."

The scene cut to a seagull sleeping on top of a loudspeaker, though it flew away once the loudspeaker blared. "Alright campers!" Chris announced. "Enough beauty sleep! Time to show us what you're made of!"

The contestants were all sitting in the bleachers in front of a stage.

"I don't know what we're gonna do next, but I'm pretty sure we're gonna have a talent show," Izzy guessed to her teammates.

Trent saw Sky arriving. "Sky! Saved you a seat," he offered.

"Didn't expect that, but okay," Sky accepted the offer and sat down.

Rodney saw Jasmine coming over and immediately scooted to his right. "Jasmine! I saved you a seat!" he offered.

Jasmine raised an eyebrow at this, but still proceeded to sit next to Rodney, causing Priya to observe them.

Confessional: Priya

"I had no idea Rodney was interested in Jasmine, but he shouldn't jump into a relationship just yet," Priya said. "Jasmine hasn't given him any signs of attraction just yet."

"Welcome to our brand new, deluxe, state-of-the-art, outdoor amphitheater!" Chris announced. "Okay, this week's challenge is a summer camp favorite! A talent contest!"

"That is so amazing!" Sadie perked up.

"Each team has eight hours to pick their three most talented campers," Chris continued as Katie and Sadie squealed while Damien fist-bumped Sam. "These three will represent them in the show tonight! Sing, dance, juggle, anything goes as long as it's legal!"

"You'll be judged by our resident talent scout, former DJ, VJ, and rap legend, Grand Master Chef, who will show his approval via the Chef-o-meter! The team that loses will send one camper home tonight. Good luck!"

The scene flashed to the Gophers' cabins, where Brick stood before his team. "Alright, team. I'll be captain of today's challenge!" he claimed authority.

Ripper stood up from his seat. "And why are you the leader?" he gruffly asked.

"He claimed it first," Sky told the bully.

Ripper gave up and sat down. "You can lead this challenge, but do not tell me what to do."

Trent finally met up with the team. He had his guitar case on his back and a muffin on his left hand. "Hey. Snagged you an extra muffin," the musician gave the muffin to Sky.

Sky ate the muffin in one bite. "Now I have more energy for the day," she smirked.

"Trent, I want to let you know that I'll be the leader today," Brick informed. "Any objections?"

"Right on. Go for it," Trent allowed.

"That's all the approval I need," Brick said. "Me, Izzy, and Ripper will be the judges."

"Got it," Izzy agreed with the plan.

"I get to judge something?" Ripper smiled. "Wicked!"

The camera cut to the Bass in front of their cabin. They were all watching Sadie demonstrating some dance moves from back home as hip-hop music played from a boombox.

The pigtailed girl finished her dancing by jumping in the air and performing the splits. Given the horrified reactions from the Bass, she was not accepted for the show.

Back with the Gophers, Chase was chugging two sodas. As he did so, the camera focused on Trent and Sky. "Are you gonna audition?" Trent asked Sky.

"Let's just see what our team has to offer first," Sky said.

Chase had finished drinking his sodas. After throwing his cans away, he began burping. "A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Zed!"

The females were disgusted while the males stood up and cheered for Chase's talent.

Trent rushed over to high-five him. "That was excellent, man," he congratulated him.

"Me and my friends have soda drinking competitions, and most of the time, I usually win," Chase said.

"Your burping skills are nice, but I don't think it'll win us a lot of points if Chef's in charge," Brick admitted.

"Yeah, you've got a point, but it was cool demonstrating my talent," Chase said.

"So, who's up next?" Izzy smiled eagerly.

It was Damien's turn to audition for the Killer Bass. The others watched as he held out a trumpet and played 'Taps'. He was doing well until a fly flew into the hole of the trumpet, causing him to stop playing and cough out the fly.

"Man, that is weak!" Chris told the camera after he oversaw Damien's failure.

The scene cut to Ripper, who was playing an instrumental tune of 'Modern Major General' on his armpit. When he was done, the Gophers clapped for him.

"And that was my performance of 'Modern Major General'," Ripper said.

"I vote for Ripper to be in the contest," Izzy raised her hand.

"'Modern Major General' is a classic I enjoy," Brick agreed. "He's in."

"Nice," Ripper celebrated being accepted for the show.

Brick noticed Gwen walking away from the team with her diary. "Where are you going?"

"Anywhere that's not here," Gwen answered before taking her leave.

"Let's take a short break before we continue with auditions," Izzy eagerly told the Gophers, causing everyone to disperse.

The scene shifted to Jasmine juggling what appeared to be a raccoon, two rabbits, and three chipmunks. She finished off her act by throwing the animals up in the air, sticking her right hand out, and watching as the raccoon, rabbits, and chipmunks landed on her hand in a stacked position.

The Bass cheered for her act. "We can sign her up! Next?" Eva said.

"Me!" Priya said. "I've had a lot of archery practice, and I never miss my target."

"That sounds super neat, Priya," Rodney complimented the reality TV fan.

"Yeah, but it'd be lackluster for the talent show," Eva said. "Who's up next?" Sam raised his hand. "No, gaming won't be a talent." Sam put his hand down.

The footage skipped to Izzy turning on a boombox next to her. She stood in front of her team and performed a dance.

"I call this... The Dance... Of... The Rattlesnake!" Izzy announced as she moved her body and arms about and hissed. "Look into my eyes, what do you see? Ah duh nuh. Nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh!" she sang while moving closer to her team.

Both Ripper and Trent were put off at first, but they soon got over it. "That girl is good," Ripper smiled.

The next person to audition was Geoff. He was riding his skateboard through a cliff, performed a kickflip, and landed on the ground. He then came to a stop next to a stump and kicked the board up to his hands.

The Bass cheered for him. "We have Geoff's skateboarding tricks, Jasmine's juggling, and Eva's bench pressing," Priya told the team.

"I'm gonna be on TV, man!" Geoff exclaimed.

"You're already on TV, Geoff," Priya said.

"Oh yeah!" Geoff said and ran up close to the camera. "Hello out there, dudes!"

Next, Sky was shown juggling three batons that were on fire. The team moved back when one of the batons got too close to them.

"Um, are you guys sure this is safe?" Millie asked.

"Of course, dweeb," Ripper snorted. "This is a gymnastic pro."

Sky tossed her batons into the air, and thanks to two birds accidentally colliding with them, the batons got knocked away, and the Gophers hid behind the tables to avoid getting hit, Sky coming along with them.

They peaked their heads out of the tables and saw that a hole was on the ground thanks to one of the batons. "On the plus side, we're still alive," Chase said.

"Uh guys, the bush is on fire," Trent pointed to a bush that was set ablaze by one of the batons.

Just then, Justin exited out of the bathroom. He was wearing shades and holding a fire extinguisher, and after looking at the bush, he sprayed foam on it in order to get rid of the fire.

He managed to save the bush from burning, and after he threw the extinguisher away, Chase handed him a bottle of water. Justin took the bottle, and proceeded to rip his shirt off. He took a swig of water, and a droplet fell onto his abs and evaporated.

The Gophers were all swooning over him. "Justin will be performing alongside Ripper and Trent," Brick said. "Does anyone disagree?" They all shook their heads no.

The footage skipped ahead to Ripper walking to the bathroom when an arm grabbed him from inside and dragged him in. Ripper yelped at this and was about to start swinging until the person held his arm, revealing himself to be Scott.

"Scott?" Ripper observed.

"Listen, I need to tell you something," Scott told the bully.

"Take your dorky hand off of me first!" Ripper grunted.

Scott removed his hand, but got to the point. "I want to get Justin out of the game, and I need your help."

"Why are you telling me this?" Ripper asked.

"Justin's super hot, Ripper," Scott pointed out. "Usually, hot guys must be hiding something, and everyone has the hots for him. If this keeps up, he'll be going on to the finale unopposed."

"He is pretty…" Ripper shrugged, only to realize what he just said, "...I mean, in a bad way. There's only room for one good looking guy here, and that's me!" he declared. "Justin's out of here."

"Good," Scott grinned. "I know your teammates won't vote him off for no good reason, but I have a plan to make that happen."

"What is it?" Ripper asked.

"Here's what you have to do," Scott said.

Confessional: Scott

"My plan is to frame Justin for a crime he didn't commit," Scott confessed. "I'm not going to injure or kill anybody here, but I'm not above breaking a few things."

The scene cut to the boy's side of the Gophers' cabin as Scott snuck inside. He looked at every one of the beds until he found Trent's guitar on the top one. Scott grabbed it and cut the strings with his knife before putting the guitar on Justin's bed and smashing his mirror next to it. He was about to exit until he heard footsteps approaching. Not taking any chances, he hid under one of the bunks.

The person entering was Brick. He placed his whistle on his bed and exited the cabin immediately. Scott smiled at him leaving, but he saw the bugs under the bunk crawling on his body. In less than ten seconds, Scott burst out of the cabin and ran away screaming in hopes of getting the bugs off him.

Meanwhile, Gwen was sitting on a stump by herself writing in her diary.

Chase then came by with a confident smile on his face. "Hey there," he said to the goth. "What are you doing?"

"Writing in my diary. Shouldn't that have been your first clue?" Gwen said.

"Oh I see. It's private. Totally get it," Chase smirked cooly.

"Why are you here?" Gwen asked. "Normally, you'd be swimming or injuring yourself doing a stupid stunt."

"I just want to get to know you," Chase said. "You're hard to talk to, but I make friends easily."

"I'm busy right now, and I'm asking you to beat it," Gwen demanded.

"But-" Chase tried to say.

"Now," Gwen gave him the stink eye.

"Whatever you want," Chase shrugged and walked away.

Meanwhile, Trent was sitting on a stool writing some lyrics on a piece of paper. "My song should be a dedication, but to who?" he said to herself until inspiration came to him. "It should be to a teammate, and I already know who."

Ripper ran over to him with a panicked look on his face. "Trent!!!" he yelled in order to get his attention.

"What is it?" Trent asked in concern.

"I just saw something bad happening to your guitar!" Ripper exclaimed.

"My WHAT?!" Trent shouted in surprise.

The camera switched to Trent and Ripper inside the boy's cabin, where they saw Trent's guitar next to Justin's smashed mirror on Justin's bed.

"Justin… did this?" Trent stammered as he picked up his guitar and saw the cut strings.

"Yes. I saw him cut your guitar strings with his glass," Ripper fibbed. "I was going to stop him, but he was too quick and he ran away when I caught him in the act."

"Why would he do this?" Trent asked.

"He probably wanted to sabotage you so he could take all the attention for himself," Ripper said. "We have to get him out of here before he targets our teammates. Are you in?"

"Yes," Trent agreed. "Justin should get punishment for what he did."

Confessional: Ripper

"The first part of the plan is complete," Ripper grinned. "I just need more votes so that Justin will be outnumbered. And since Trent can't perform anymore, Izzy will have to take his place."

The scene moved to Gwen leaving her cabin, catching Millie's attention. "Hey Gwen. Where are you going?" she wondered.

"I'm going to the dock before the talent show," Gwen said. "You can come with me if you like."

"Sure," Millie smiled. "I don't have anything else to do."

The Killer Bass were waiting on stage. Geoff and Eva sat on the edge tweaking their skateboard and dumbbell respectively, Priya and Sadie were watching everyone, Rodney and Sam were playing cards on crates, and Jasmine was sitting from far away juggling three balls.

"So how did you learn to shoot an arrow?" Geoff asked Priya.

"My parents taught me when we went out on a camping trip," Priya told him. "This happened when I was nine years old."

"Why would they teach you to use a bow and arrow when you were young?" Sadie asked.

"They've been training me my entire life for reality shows like this," Priya replied enthusiastically. "I can't just come to the island as a noob or I'd be doomed."

As Priya was talking to her team, Scott repeatedly threw a rock at the floor, and it flew at a stage light over Jasmine and went back to his hand, though he didn't look behind him.

The next time he performed the stunt, he miscalculated the throw, and instead of hitting the stage light, it hit the rope holding the stage light, and since the rock was sharp enough, the stage light fell.

From below, Jasmine looked up at the light that was falling, and it crash-landed off-screen. The Killer Bass gasped at what happened in surprise. "Oh crap!" Priya panicked.

The camera showed that Jasmine was hit in the head with the stage light. With a slurred groan, she fell to the floor with a dazed look.

(Commercial Break)

Katie and Sadie were looking at Jasmine's condition on the stage. Her head was wrapped with bandages and she was still feeling dizzy.

Priya and Rodney approached them. "Is Jasmine going to be okay?" Priya asked.

"She's super dizzy right now, so she won't be able to perform her talent," Sadie explained.

"Can she still talk?" Rodney wondered.

"All we're going to get from her for now are mumbles," Sadie said.

"There is something I don't get," Priya said. "How did that stage light fall if the rope was tied tight?"

"There must have been something faulty, or the stage light was just too much for the rope," Rodney guessed.

The scene went to Gwen and Millie sitting on the dock.

"Sometimes, I just need to get away from everyone here, you know?" Gwen confessed. "I mean, it's like they're all driving me crazy. Well, almost all of them."

"It is hard getting to understand our peers and how they act, but you are right about them not being bad," Millie replied. "You see, I have a crush on someone here, and while he can be a bit extreme, he does try to make everyone here happy."

Gwen was silent for a few seconds until she gasped. "Are you talking about Chase, because those traits define him big time."

"Yes. Chase is the one I like, but he seems to be interested in you," Millie brought up.

"Here's the thing. Even though he flirts with me, I have no interest in him at all," Gwen said, "and if he can get his eyes off me and onto you, I'd be relieved."

"That will be hard, but just make sure he gets the message that you don't like him," Millie suggested.

The footage cut to the backstage, and the camera showed the performing players. Eva was lifting weights, Ripper was sitting down and flexing his arms, Justin was powdering his face, Izzy was stretching her body, Geoff was twirling his skateboard in-between his finger and foot, and Priya was supplying her arrows.

"I can't believe I get to show off my rattlesnake dance," Izzy told Ripper.

"Are you able to breakdance instead?" Ripper asked, "cause that would totally wow the crowd."

"Good point," Izzy agreed. "And I'm not surprised that Justin messed up Trent's guitar."

"Hmm?" Ripper grew confused.

"Usually, quiet people may seem unsuspecting, but they always have a dark side," Izzy explained.

"Got everything planned for your act, Priya?" Eva asked. "You know you're just replacing Jasmine since she's not in the best condition."

"I do," Priya said happily. "My act will make Green Arrow and Hawkeye jealous. And good luck with your bench pressing act."

"I've been lifting weights before I came to the island," Eva grunted. "I don't need luck."

Confessional: Eva

"I don't normally care about talent shows," Eva said. "But since I'll be performing in one today, I should at least pretend to care."

"It's the TDI Talent Extravaganza!" Chris announced after the shot transitioned to the start of the talent show, where the non-participating contestants were seated on the bleachers and the host was onstage. "Welcome to the very first Camp Wawanakwa Talent Contest where six campers will showcase their mad skills and desperately try not to humiliate themselves. First up for the Screaming Gophers, is Justin!"

The Gophers cheered for their teammate before the focus shifted to him with his back facing the audience. A spotlight was focused on him, and he had a piece of rope next to him. Justin turned around and made poses as the camera took photos of him. He then took out a stool and sat on it, and when he pulled the rope, water splashed all over his head, and he shot a smile at the camera while his hair was wet.

"I'm not attracted to Justin, but why is he so incredibly smoking hot?" Gwen asked.

Confessional Ends

"Okay, I don't know what that was," Chris applauded Justin as he walked out on stage, "but dang, you've got some moves, dude!" The 'Chef-o-meter' was filled with a six out of nine, and the Gophers cheered again.

"First up for the Killer Bass," Chris announced, "make some noise for the muscle woman, Eva!" Her team was shown cheering before Eva sat down on a bench press with a barbell.

Eva began lifting her barbell up in the air. As she was lifting, Geoff and Rodney each added more weights to both sides, but she still kept pushing through, even if sweat was starting to form on her body. Eventually, Rodney and Geoff added the biggest weights to it. The muscle woman seemed to struggle and looked like she was gonna fail, but she growled and lifted it up five more times as high as she could.

"I've never seen anyone with that much muscle power," Chris told Eva as he walked out. "Let's see what Grandmaster Chef thinks!" The Chef-o-meter showed a six. "Not perfect, but good," the host told the camera as Eva walked off the stage. "So, with two down and four acts to go, it's the Screaming Gophers screaming ahead. Next on-deck, Izzy!" He backed off the stage. "Take it away!"

"Hit it, DJ!" Izzy called out to someone offscreen before a hip-hop tune started playing. First, Izzy started jointing and bending her arms around her. Then, she did the running bloke while moving backwards. She performed two cartwheels, did a 360 spin on her finger, formed herself into a spinning ball, and front flipped herself back to her standing stance, ending the dance.

"Nice work. I'm liking your style, bra," Chris said, the Chef-o-meter showing a seven. "So does Grandmaster Chef!" Izzy bowed and waved at the applauding audience, and Chris shoved her away when it took too long. "All right, quit hogging my light, buddy. Three down, and three to go, and the Screaming Gophers are totally sucking so far. Let's hear it for Priya!"

Backstage, Priya began to feel nervous, and Rodney took notice. "Are you positive you can do this?" Rodney wondered with concern.

"I've never been on stage before, but it's a first for everything," Priya said.

She got on the stage and stood in the center surrounded by the four targets she had to destroy. Priya whipped out her bow and arrow, jumped up in the air, and destroyed her first target with an arrow. Next, she did a frontflip over a target and shot it behind her back. Then, she performed a huge backflip and struck the target in front of her. For her final trick, Priya ran forward, slid on her knees, turned herself backwards, and hit her last target perfectly.

As Priya's team applauded her performance, Chris came onto the stage. "And people say archery is boring, but Priya proved them slightly wrong!" he said. "In the meantime, we'll take a short break."

A simple blank-and-white animation of a man ironing a shirt – and his hand – in front of an old television set was shown as a means of transition.

"I can't believe I actually got to perform live in front of my parents. This is so cool," Priya gushed.

"Welcome back to the TDI Talent Extravaganza!" Chris announced. "Welcome back! Okay. So Priya's bow and arrow prowess registered six thumbs up by Grand Master Chef." The Chef-o-meter presented six filled sections. "But, it's not enough to pull ahead of the Screaming Gophers, who hold the lead with Izzy's dancing. So, without further delay, here he is for the leaders… Ripper!"

The boy flexed his muscles and got onto the stage. "What up, chumps," Ripper said. "I'm here to perform what I believe is better than any musical genre… armpit serenade!"

He took off his shirt, placed his left hand on his right armpit, and started to armpit serenade to the tune of Modern Major General. He started off light and simple, but put in a lot of effort in the heavier verses.

Ripper soon started speeding up his serenading, and for his final act, he landed on his knee and let out a whoop of victory.

Priya watched from behind the curtain and talked to Geoff. "Normally, I'd find this gross, but the song he's serenading to is really memorable."

"How does Ripper score?" Chris asked the viewers, and the Chef-o-meter displayed five points. "Exactly! That was exceptional talent shown to us! Well then, it's down to the final act of the night. Can Geoff and his rad stunts turn it around? I seriously doubt it. Let's find out!"

After hearing his name being called, Geoff set his skateboard down and jumped onto it, only to break it instead. "Whoa. That kinda wrecks the ride," he said.

"Oh no!" Priya panicked. "Now we have to send someone else or we'll lose, even though Katie and Sadie have bad dancing skills, Jasmine is dizzy right now, Damien swallowed a fly and can't play his trumpet, Scott doesn't have anything to perform, and Sam doing a video game presentation won't make the cut for this challenge."

"Someone has to replace me," Geoff stated.

"Allow me," Rodney stepped up. "I'm a bit of a poet, and I've written a couple of poems for a while. It's either this or we just give up."

Rodney was now standing in the spotlight getting ready to perform as he read off a piece of paper.

"We only need seven points for us to win," Geoff said with Priya next to her. "Good luck."

Rodney put the paper away and cleared his throat. "I am a boy and you are a girl, and when we're together our hearts twirl. Our connection goes deeper than a black hole, and we'll always stand bold and tall. I have the unique strength of a gorilla, and you have the keen eye of a tiger. Pigs and kangaroos don't blend together, but we'll always live happily ever after." He ended his poem with a bow. "The end."

The Gophers and Bass in the stands were shown to be stunned, but eventually, they couldn't help but cheer and applaud. Geoff and Priya also cheered from backstage.

"Wicked poem, Rodney!" Chris applauded, the Chef-o-meter showing an eight. "Check it out! Grandmaster Chef has declared his winner! Even though they held the lead, the Screaming Gophers have been trampled by the Killer Bass!"

"Yay! We won!" Priya went over to congratulate Rodney, and Geoff even twirled his hat around in celebration.

"And as for the Screaming Gophers," Chris announced to them, "pick your favorite loser, and I'll see you at the bonfire."

Confessional: Ripper

"My talent should have won us this challenge," Ripper complained. "Do you know how long it took me to master armpit serenading? Seven days!"

"Anyway, me, Trent, and Izzy are already onboard to get Justin out. With nine of us, I'd need two more people, so I told Sky and Brick about the guitar incident," Ripper continued. "Brick is noble, and Sky has a thing for Trent, so they're both on my side."

Confessional Ends

"Kudos to you all for an incredible night of entertainment!" Chris said as the shot showed Trent and Sky already holding marshmallows and smiling at each other. "Music, drama, barfing," the camera panned across Gwen, Izzy, and Brick with a marshmallow each before cutting to Chase and Millie eating their marshmallows next to the host. "There is only one marshmallow left on this plate."

The shot cut to Justin and Ripper at the campfire. "Justin," Chris said, "you reminded us all that looks matter a lot." The young man smiled. "And Ripper, you're not exactly the best teammate. You're kinda obnoxious and mean."

"And I'm kinda bored," Ripper rolled his eyes. "Give the marshmallow to one of us now."

"Justin, I personally think this is very wrong, but tonight, hotness just wasn't enough," Chris claimed. "The last marshmallow goes to…"

"Ripper."

The camera panned over the remaining Gophers. Some were shocked by Justin's elimination, while others didn't seem to care.

"Time to catch the Boat of Losers, bra!" Chris mentioned to Justin, and the Hawaiian boy left the campfire dejected.

"Bye bye, Justin!" Ripper sarcastically bid goodbye to his eliminated team member and swallowed his marshmallow as Justin walked down the Dock of Shame.

Confessional: Scott

"I know the plan is to get Justin out, but I had to think of a plan B in case my team lost," Scott confessed. "Jasmine is a natural born leader, and with her somehow getting injured, it would've been a good enough reason to send her home today, but she'll be gone sooner or later."

Author's Note: So yeah, Millie has a thing for Chase. Don't worry, I'm not gonna make Chase as irredeemable as he was in canon. Since I have to write for him in the OG cast, it's only fair to humanize him a little. Plus I saw this done with Scarlett before so I figured, yeah, I can justify it.

As for today's elimination, Justin is also a character I really like, but had to eliminate in order for the plot to progress. It makes sense for his character since he wasn't much of a strategist at first, so he'd be an easy target for Scott. Also for you guys wondering, Scott getting Jasmine injured was completely an accident, he was just dirty enough to take advantage of it for later.
