Chapter 7 more spoilers for 1984 and Justice League
The note for Diana slipped through the universes without a sound and landed with a pop of displaced air on Steve's watch. It was an interesting thing how it got to her apartment. Etta Candy was going to deliver it but as she went back to her time and place, things happened.
Etta arrived safely, but her note was ripped from her hand by a speeder traveling through time and a man who became more to save the world. The Flash as he traveled back and the note through time interacted with the mother box just as Cyborg stopped the mother boxes from joining, just enough to send the note to where Steve's presence was last, his watch. The one thing that still held an echo of Steve's presence.
Diana was told of Etta's journey but Etta was getting old and had memory slips so Diana couldn't or wouldn't or wanted to believe her. Etta knew that Steve's death wounded Diana deeply so she never brought it up again.
In the late 1980's Diana did briefly wonder if Etta was talking about how Steve came back in 1984 but how would Etta have known about that? Etta was gone when it happened. So Diana put Steve out of her mind, but kept the hope that he gave her in her heart.
Diana signed as she landed on her balcony in Paris. It was a few weeks after the newly formed Justice League as they coined themselves or how Barry called them saved the world from Steppenwolf and Darksied.
She bypassed her bedroom and took a long shower. It was a long day between stopping criminals and her work.
Diana put on a silk robe and ran her hand fondly along the various pictures of the various people she had known in her long life and paused when she came to her picture of herself at the Trevor Ranch. A piece of paper folded in half was covering Steve's watch. It looked a little aged, like it had been sitting there for a few years with handwriting that Diana only knew from the past.
She felt her hand shaking slightly as she picked up the paper that had her name written in cursive, not good cursive. Steve always joked his handwriting was horrible, that's why Etta took the notes for him.
Diana slide down on the floor as she read, hope, impossible hope blooming in her chest. Was Etta right in the end?
Dear Diana,
I don't know where you are or what time it is for you. That is the year. For me, it's been about four months since somehow I slipped between universes into the year 2012 in New York City. Somehow when I 'died' your presence protected me enough to slip through to this other universe. Or at least that's what Thor, the god of thunder says. Chief or a Chief here, confirms this theory. Apparently he's a demi-god like you, called Napi. Your powers interacted with Thor's when he traveled the Bifrost, a gateway between worlds in this universe. My believe in you and your love for me shielded me somehow.
Steve Rogers, my 'nephew' here, says the love thing is stupid. He's reading this over my shoulder as I write. The little brat. He just turned bright, bright, bright red when I informed him what I meant by the love part. I mean it was physically possible right?! I think?
Now Thor and Loki are both laughing at me. Napi is amused. Etta is ah, smirking. Muttering something about knew it. I regret informing them all. The gossip vine here is swift.
I did travel to your universe in 1984 into unknown man's body. Somehow his mind and soul traveled to my body during those few days. Thankfully for him he was unconscious during that time. I wouldn't want to have my experience on anyone. I had a nasty headache and pain after I got back into my body. I hope that the dream-stone made the effects for the 'handsome' man bearable.
I am working with a agency called S.H.E.I.L.D. that's based out of New York. They have aliens here, Thor and his bro are one. Natasha says I can't get a fanny pack. It was a horrible thing of the 80s. I'll get one somehow. They seem very useful.
The next few lines are scratched out in a unfamiliar handwriting that's followed by a drawing of people in another unfamiliar hand.
Diana huffed out a laugh at group. There's a badass red head, (like Etta but tall!) a couple of demi-gods like herself, an archer and a metal like man like Cyborg but not exactly. She wondered by the green man transformation. A tall blonde man with a star shield completes the drawing.
The following names are by each drawing. Dr. Banner aka Hulk is the green man, the badass redhead is Natasha, the blonde archer is Clint, the two demi-gods are Loki and Thor. The metal man is Tony Stark, and the last is Steve Rogers. Steve's 'nephew'.
The laughter dies on her lips as she studies the old old Norse code that is at the bottom on the note, just past Steve's signature.
It seems that there isn't just a Darkseid in her universe, but maybe one in Steve's as well. Diana holds on to the note as if taking her hand off of it will make it disappear and goes to email her new team. It seems that she's going to need help.
The hope she feels in her chest burns bright.
