Chapter II:
:The Hedgehog & The Mermaid:
A new day had dawned over this far away kingdom, and in the morning air some faint sounds of music could be heard. Far below the sea within the kingdom of Atlantica the sound of delightful singing could be heard in the musical room of the palace and the source was the daughters of Triton rehearsing the big musical number with Sebastian as the conductor. The girls emerged from several giant oyster shells performing many spins in the sea as the undersea band consisting of several under sea fish, octopus and rays were playing their instruments.
Attina, Alana, Adella, Aquata, Arista and Andrina came together in singing the high notes just as another giant sea shell was rising from the stage. Just as they reached their climax the shell opened to reveal Ariel sitting in the shell on a cushion however she looked a little distracted so much so she missed her cue.
"Ariel!" Alana said through her teeth, but nothing seemed to phase her. "ARIEL!" they all said and that finally got her attention, realising it was her part she quickly snapped out of it and swam from her seat and performed a flip with her tail and sung with her sisters.
"Alright alright stop!" Sebastian called from the rear, and the girls all swam in place as he swam over to them. "Attina, Alana, Adella, Aquata,Arista, Andrina excellent performance." He complimented to the six sisters but then he turned to Ariel a little annoyed. "But Ariel you were late wid your timing, again! Dis is the second time in rehearsals and we're only on de first few days."
Ariel just sighed. "I'm sorry, I guess I just got a little distracted I forgot my timing." She said apologetically.
"Thats an understatement." Aquata agreed.
"Ariel we want to make this a concert for daddy to remember." her eldest sister said to her. "You do want that don't you?"
"Of course I do, I'll try and do better." Ariel nodded.
Sebastian sighed as he rubbed his claw down his face in exhaustion. "Alright lets try this again." He swam back to his podium as the girls swam back to positions. "I swear dat girl's acting is going to ruin me someday."
The last few hours, of rehearsals went a little better and Ariel was slightly improving on her timing for her cues. However her thoughts still couldn't help but wander, namely to a certain strange blue creature she rescued.
Meanwhile:
On the surface on the green grass of land a blue blur shot through the country side, and arrived at an overlook of the castle. Sonic made a stretch from going on his morning run after spending the first night in his beach shack. He looked to see a large ship in the port pulling in what looked like a wrecked ship and so he decided to go take a look.
On the dock, the sailors present were assisting wounded and injured sailors as it looked like they survived a shipwreck. The captain of that crew had just seen the carnage on the ship. Sonic who was hiding among some of the crates on the dock looked at the damage to the ship. He whistled in his mind seeing the savagery of the damaged ship.
"Captain." He suddenly heard a voice and he looked to see a young man on the dock with smart black hair, blue eyes wearing a white shirt, red cumberband blue pants with black boots. Following him was a skinny looking old man with grey hair in a pony tail and wore a dark Persian coloured suit grey pants and long socks with brown buckled shoes.
"Prince Eric." The Captain greeted and the one known as Prince Eric looked at the savagery of the shipwreck.
"Whoa what happened here?" Eric asked.
"We just found this ship off the coast your highness, but its strange I..I can't quite fathom what could cause this." The captain explained. "Some of the crew suspect ill fortune from the seagods."
"Well it could be anything, maybe it got caught in a nasty storm." Eric shrugged.
"But Eric, this seems more savage than any storm could do. This is the second shipwreck this month, maybe we should consider cancelling tomorrows voyage." Grimsby commented with concern. Given this recent development and this voyage the prince was planning to take. "If this ship is any indication."
"Heh, buzzkill much?" Sonic muttered from his hiding place.
"Come on Grim don't be such a buzzkill." Eric then said much to Sonics surprise and smirked rather impressed. "This was an isolated incident and I'm glad the crew is okay, but we can't back away because of a few wrecks if we did we'd be left behind while other kingdoms are ahead in the world."
Grimsby just sighed, he knew the prince of this kingdom wasn't one to duck away at a chance of adventure or sailing on the high seas to other kingdoms for trade so they wouldn't be left behind. But sadly the duties of his kingdom not to mention the wishes of the people seemed to come first in his advisors mind. Namely him.
"Besides we've been planning this trade voyage for weeks, we'll just have to be on look out." Eric said, then suddenly everyone heard a loud barking coming towards them. Sonic was startled as he saw a large looking English Sheepdog running onto the dock.
"Hey Max!" Eric greeted as the dog named Max jumped up to his friend and master and even licked his face. "Hey easy there." He chuckled. "Ready for a voyage on the high seas boy?"
Max just barked in a happy tone, that told the prince he said yes. "Okay make sure these sailors are treated for their injuries, and ready my ship we'll be heading out at dawn tomorrow. But send word out to all fishing vessels to be on look out in case another storm hits." Eric then said to Grimsby who just sighed in defeat.
"Very well then, its not like your birthday is in a week from now." He pointed out.
"Come loosen up Grim, where's your spirit of adventure?" Eric said very confident as he and Max walked past the crates and Grimsby followed close behind reminding the prince of a certain appointment. Sonic quietly peaked up and he had to admit this prince was something else.
"Heh, looks like Sailor boy has a lot of guts." He smirked impressed. "To go out on the sea knowing the danger, heh not that I worry about that the mountains are far superior." However his attention was then drawn to the damage on the ship, and he couldn't help but wonder what the heck could do that. No storm could tear a ship apart that bad and he'd seen storms more dangerous in the world of the Arabian Knights against certain pirates.
Elsewhere:
Far on the Northern coastline was a small island and on its beach, lay a large looking wreck but it wasn't that of a ship it was a certain robotic mech. Several Buzz Bomber drones were pulling a cross large nets with cannons that looked like they came from an old styled ship. They released the nets and hovering over was Orbot and Cubot.
"Hey we got loads of cool stuff from that ship!" Cubot said as he tried to lift a cannon ball but it was far too heavy to lift, and when he eventually got it up he dropped it and it rolled over to the other cannon balls.
"Careful you bolt brains!" Called an annoyed voice. They turned in fright to see Dr Eggman stormed over. "They maybe crude but they are explosive!" He then motioned for his drones to fire upon the cannons and balls and the immense heat from their lasers melted it down. It was then picked up by the other EggPawns in large buckets to be taken over to the destroyed Egg Crusher.
"Gah! BLAST THAT SONIC!" Eggman yelled. "He destroyed my Displacer that I wanted to use to blast him to nothingness but his typical heroics blasted us to the middle of nowhere! And on top of that I've resorted to attacking primitive ships for metal to make repairs! Does my torment ever end!"
"Oh look on the bright side boss, we are stranded on a beautiful beach." Orbot said a bit more positive.
"Yeah and we can catch up on our tans!" Cubot said as he was carrying a beach umbrella and a beach ball under his arm.
"Your metal you can't get a tan! Great I get stranded in another dimension, still my only constellation is that the hedgehog was blasted to " Eggman yelled at him. However he took a look at his surroundings and began to take an interest, not of beauty but of strategic significance and the estimated size and diameter of the island. He calculated everything in that 300 IQ mind of his. Then he bore a smirk.
"On the other hand it is a paradise, but it could use some…improvements." He then pulled out a small white box from his back and placed it on the sand. With one tap on the top the strange box beeped and it began to expand and transform into something.
"HEHEHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH!" Eggman cackled as a creeping shadow rose over him while Orbot and Cubot looked in complete awe as their optics widened. "Now it looks more like home!" He smirked.
Meanwhile:
Back on the mainland a fire was blazing on a makeshift campfire. Next to it was Sonic putting more wood on the fire that he gathered from a shipwreck. He then had another stick in hand and stuck it through a sausage he got from the village. He sat next to the fire and began to fry it. Unknown to him however, he was being watched from afar. Behind one of the rocks on the sea a certain little mermaid slowly peaked up from behind the rock.
Ariel was fascinated by this blue surface creature, and watched as he was frying his food. Rehearsals for the musical had ended so she decided to look for more treasures but decided to sneak up to the surface to learn more about the blue stranger.
"Ariel." Called a voice and she turned to see Flounder floating next to her.
"Shhhh." Ariel hushed. "he'll hear you." She stayed down to make sure the hedgehog wasn't looking her way. She peaked up again as Flounder peaked from around the rock.
"He's so…strange, he looks so…so." Ariel tried to find the right words to describe this stranger.
"Blue?" Flounder wondered. Ariel just shook her head at that while smiling and went back to looking at the stranger.
Sonic had placed the fried sausage into a baguette of bread and placed what looked like seaweed and cut up pickles on it, considering he couldn't find the ingredients for chilli dogs he decided to try and make do. He remembered a recipe for some certain hot dogs he had during his time in a place called No Place.
"Okay here goes nothing." Sonic said and with one nervous gulp, he took a bite of the seaweed dog. He chewed on it and suddenly he turned a shade of sickly green and spat it out in disgust. "GAGH YUCK PTEOW!" He groaned and got so desperate he took a drink of sea water and spat that out too. "BLECH I don't get how fish breath this stuff!"
Ariel couldn't help but silently giggle from behind her rock, however this altered the Blue hedgehogs sensitive hearing. He turned his head and looked towards the rock which Ariel quickly hid behind.
"Hello?" He called out. "Is someone there?" Ariel stayed quiet hoping he wouldn't come over. "Hello?" Sonic called again but there was no response. "Heh must've been the wind." He shrugged off and he ran off with a blast going for a run. Ariel peaked up and couldn't help but look in awe as she saw him disappear into the dust.
She was so amazed not to mention relieved she dived back into the water followed by Flounder. Swimming down to the ocean floor. "Whew that was a close one." Ariel breathed in relief.
"Yeah too close we could've been seen!" Flounder said.
"But we weren't." Ariel smiled. "He looks so amazing and fast I wonder where he comes from? Maybe I should try and talk to him?"
"Wait what?" Flounder exclaimed. "But..he…and y..your…he's from the surface and your a mermaid what would he think and your dad might flip!"
"Oh don't worry, he doesn't look like a bad person. I've got this feeling that he's a good guy." Ariel said in wonder and positivity.
"Well okay if you say so." Flounder shrugged his fins as they swam away.
From within the darkened shadows of some rocks near some rather twisted coral two peering golden lights appeared and been revealed to be glaring eyes from two electric eels. However they were just the spies sending what they see to someone else.
For far away in the darkest corners of the ocean lay a grotto that looked like a skeleton of a giant creature, by its size it could be mistaken for the skeleton of a prehistoric sea creature with glowing purplish pink light coming from its exposed areas. Laying within was what looked like a witches lair and within the centre was a large looking cauldron. A magical mist was around it and it was seeing what the two eels were seeing Ariel and Flounder swimming away.
A mysterious figure in the shadows watched them swimming over to the mystical visual. "Hmmm…well well a curious little princess…dreaming of the surface world. With a wave of this mysterious woman's hand changed it to showing a certain blue hedgehog on the surface.
"And a stranger with an unusual gift of speed but is very different to other surface dwellers. How interesting." She smirked in the shadows. "Either way they could be quite useful, the girl especially…" Suddenly however her cauldron suddenly glowed but rather strangely to her curiosity.
"What's this?" She mused and then in her cauldron she saw a vision of what looked like seven glowing lights in colours of green, blue, aqua, white, purple, yellow and red. The vision then showed a certain island where a large metal fortress now lay. "An unknown power….a power not known to the seas, and what's this strange tower that lies on the surface?" She wondered. "FLOSAM, JETSAM!"
The two eels were alerted by their mistresses call and listened to what they were saying. "Go to this island and find out what is going on!" The eels then swam away into deeper waters.
Back at the lair the strange figure who appeared to have tentacles which surrounded the cauldron. "Who knows with luck this new power could be the key to my ascension!" She peered into the light revealing her to be a large looking female merfolk with violet purple skin, black and purple tentacles instead of tail fins and large wavy white hair, blue eye shadow, large red lips and a golden seashell necklace around her neck.
"My dear dear Triton, enjoy yourself while you can your day of reckoning has come." She then cackled in the deep of the sea.
Night had fallen over the kingdom and the surface. Sonic was looking out from a rock close to the beach overlooking the sea. "MmmMmmm…." He was humming a certain song to himself. ""AAaaaaaa…..AAaaaaaaa….." In truth he still couldn't stop thinking about the song sung by the girl who saved him.
"Man I still can't get that song out of my head." Sonic wondered. "I wonder who that girl was?" He looked out at the setting sun but at the same time his mind couldn't help but wander, not just about the girl who saved him but about his friends back home. "I hope the guys are okay. Sure hope they aren't worried about me. Heh." He then chuckled. "That'll be the day that Amy and Tails don't worry about me."
Mobius: Green Hills:
In the lush green landscape of Green Hills, the sun was setting but all was not peaceful at Tails workshop. On the floor lay the remains of the Dimensional Displacer while Tails was at his work bench looking at his tech tablet with Amy and Knuckles.
"Tails what the heck happened to Sonic!" Amy said practically panicked.
"Hey calm down Ames panicking about this isn't gonna get us any answers!" Knuckles said to her.
"Guys guys please! I'm trying to focus here!" Tails exclaimed and then looked over his tech tablet and at the data he collected from the displacer. "Okay as far as, I can tell Eggman built this thing to create a tear between the fabric of reality, by firing the beam it sends whatever it hits to another dimension all together."
"Okay so he was gonna blast us to a different dimension, but he sent Sonic instead?" Knuckles wondered.
"No I believe the plan was for him to send Sonic away." Tails better explained.
"Yeah try and pay more attention Knuckie." They heard a voice and turned to see a certain jewel thieving white bat in a purple, pink and black spy suit hanging upside down from one of the wooden beams in the workshop.
"Rouge?!" Amy said in surprise.
"How'd you get in here?" Knuckles questioned suspiciously.
"The front door was open." Rouge pointed out to the hanger doors of the workshop that was open. Knuckles turned to Tails.
"You really gotta keep that door shut." Knuckles told him. "You could let thieves in." The island guardian then remembered something. "Speaking of which…"
"Ugh relax red I haven't touched your Master Emerald." Rouge groaned as she flew down from the beam and hovered in place. "Anyway the docs been on this whole send Sonic to a different dimension for a while now guess he got sick of the weekly, try and take over the world and have it foiled routine." She explained as the group looked surprised. "I've even heard little birdies tell me that he spent weeks looking for the Chaos Emeralds."
"Well it looks like his little plan worked." Knuckles realised.
"No! I don't believe it!" Amy denied. "Tails there must be someway to get Sonic back?"
Tails was in deep thought about everything as he looked at the data and the rubble in front of him. He then drew to a possible conclusion. "Well there's one chance, our best hope is to repair this device and try and open a portal to get to Sonic." He explained but sighed a little unsure. "The only problem is when this thing exploded, the Emeralds were missing and we have no idea where they are, if they ended up in the world he was sent to thats good and he can use them to get back but if they're somewhere else altogether he may never get back home."
"And if we don't try Sonic will be stranded there forever!" Amy reminded him. "You've got to try!" Tails jumped from his stool and looked over all the components, and found what looked like an energy battery.
"Well we can only hope that the battery in this thing absorbed enough Chaos Energy to create the dimensional energy we need to open the portal, at least I can try." Tails said as he examined the components.
Amy nodded with some hope that her friend could pull this off, but then again he has pulled off the impossible many times before. "Well lets just hope blue doesn't get himself into too much trouble." Rouge said.
Knuckles just scoffed at that sentence. "Heh knowing his luck trouble will find him."
Meanwhile:
He was right for night had fallen and on the lonely island that was now Eggman's new base a large white tower leaning on the island with red glass in the windows and the Eggman Empire logo on the side of it. Eggman was standing in his control centre admiring his new surroundings.
"Ahhhahaha I do love the comforts of home!" Eggman cackled.
"He seems much happier now." Cubot said. "Guess it's the new surroundings."
"I do agree." Orbot agreed. Suddenly the sirens alerted around the whole base.
"Oooo I knew it was too good to be true!" Cubot panicked. Eggman looked at his control panel and saw what the alert was about and in seeing the screen he saw something that made him smirk evilly in excitement.
"Hehahahah oooh and my day just got a whole lot better, it seems my keen sensors have picked up the scent of a Chaos Emerald nearby! Which means the others are likely here as well and that equals our ticket home! And this time that meddlesome rodent won't stop me! HAHAHAHAHAHA!" He cackled evilly and his two robot sidekicks laughed along with him.
"Don't laugh with me your ruining it!" Eggman said to them. "TO THE EGGMOBILE!" He proclaimed. Seconds later the mad scientist and his robot assistants were standing in front of a wall with the Eggman Empire logo on it and two levers on a control panel on the wall. Cubot had his hand on the left hand lever.
"Pull the lever Cubot!" Eggman ordered with his finger held high, and so the cubed robot did and just like that the floor beneath Eggmans feet opened and he fell through the hole yelling.
"WRONG LEVERRRRRRRRRRR!" *SPLASH* It sounded like he landed into some water below the base.
"Oh was that the wrong one." Cubot said.
"You know he really should label these things." Orbot noted.
A soaking wet Eggman walked throng the door with a fish on his head. "GAH why do I even have that lever!" He growled. He grabbed the fish from his head and kicked it out of the base then stormed off.
"Get out of my way idiots!" Eggman pushed the two robots aside and pulled the right hand lever causing the wall to spin and they went down a slide and landed in the seat of the Eggmobile. Said vehicle then fired its engine and blasted out of the base, this was watched by prying eyes from the water.
"Follow him my pets…" Said Ursulas voice and so the two dived beneath the sea and followed.
Elsewhere:
Elsewhere in the sea around a beautiful looking coral reef, a certain little mermaid with her small sack was swimming along as her hands passed through the small coral plants and they were actually little sea horses which frolicked in the sea swimming around Ariel who giggled happily. "Ariel wait for me!" Flounder called who was trying his best to keep up with his friend.
"Oh come on Flounder hurry up." Ariel called to him. "I can't wait to see what other treasures we'll find!" Flounder soon caught up to her but was a little worried.
"But what about the rehearsals aren't there more later today?" Flounder asked.
Ariel just rolled her eyes at that "Oh don't worry we've got plenty of time." she shrugged as they swam along the sea bed, however as they passed a section of sand Ariel just stopped and swam in place. This immediately got her fishy friends attention.
"Ariel?" He asked her, however Ariel looked around for she swore she could hear a strange chiming sound echoing in the ocean. Looking around the ocean floor she was trying to find where it was coming from. "Ariel?" Flounder got even more worried and curious as to what she was looking for.
The chiming sound seemed to get louder as Ariel looked between one of the rock arches, then just out of the corner of her eye she saw it. Something glinting in the sand, the mermaids curiosity grew even more she swam over to the strange light, pushing away the sand to get a better look.
"Oh my gosh!" She breathed in awe for it was a small blue coloured emerald just lying in the sand. "Oh my gosh." She breathed again as she picked up the strange jewel in her hand. "Its…its so beautiful." She gazed at this jewels shimmering beauty and Flounder took a look equally amazed.
"Wow cool!" He said but then turned to confusion. "But uh…what is it? Is it a rock?"
"Well I don't know." Ariel shrugged but still couldn't help but admire the emerald before she put it in her bag. "I know I bet Scuttle will know what it is."
Just then something hummed passed them catching Flounders attention. " …what was that?" He said a little spooked and looked around. "Ariel did you hear that?" He asked her.
However Ariel was still a little fixated on the emerald in her possession. "Hm I wonder if it means anything?"
"Ariel!" Flounder then called finally getting her attention. "I…I think there could be sharks around here!"
"Flounder relax there's no sharks beyond the shipwrecks its probably your imagination." Ariel shrugged. "Its not like anything is going to jump out and scare us?" but suddenly something dropped in between them spooking them.
"Ah!" They shrieked in surprise. The object was a white metallic looking orb with a beady glowing red eye and it seemed to be looking at them.
"Wh..what is that?" Flounder asked as the eye followed him. Truth be told Ariel was quite surprised and curious as to what this strange eye could be. She looked closer at it right in the red glow of its eye/optic. The eye was actually a drone who scanned the two strange undersea lifeforms before it turned its attention to Ariels bag and after a deep scan it finds what it was sent for.
"Chaos Emerald Located!" It sounded then suddenly it started beeping rather loudly which spooked Flounder and Ariel and it made the mermaid cover her ears.
"Wha! What is that noise!" Flounder exclaimed, but before Ariel could answer a large looking shadow hung over them but it wasn't a night time shadow. All of a sudden something large was crashing down into the water, the two sea creatures swam out of the way of what was a large looking claw device.
"AHHHHH!" Flounder exclaimed. "SWIM FOR YOUR LIVES!" The two swam away from there as fast as they could when suddenly the claw lifted up and returned to where it came from namely the bottom of a certain vehicle piloted by Dr Eggman.
"Oh ho looks like we have a live one boys!" Eggman exclaimed while Orbot and Cubot looked at the visuals, their eyes widened and their metal jaws dropped.
"WOW! Is that!" Orbot said surprised.
"Its a mermaid! A mother flipping mermaid!" Cubot said excitedly. "A cute one at that!"
"Well that little mermaid has our Chaos Emerald!" Eggman exclaimed as he pushed down on the throttle and blasted forwards chasing the two from above. He retracted the giant claw below him which was replaced with dropping six Chopper fish bots into the sea. Followed by what looked like harpoons and locked the targeting beacon onto the fleeing mermaid and fish and pressed the trigger firing the cables . It just missed them but hit one of the corals. Ariel gasped seeing the damage caused to the ocean floor.
Suddenly something fast blasted past them at great speed they turned and saw what looked like fish firing rods from their mouths they ducked beneath the rods, but when they hit a rock they exploded much to the horror of the two. These were missles, the robot fish were getting even closer and Ariel quickly grabbed Flounder and swiftly turned behind a rock formation and the Choppers blasted past.
The two peaked out and tried to swim away from there to get back to Atlantica. Suddenly another missile blasts towards them. "Flounder!" Airel cried as she grabbed Flounder and swam out of the way narrowly avoiding the missile.
Meanwhile:
Back on the beach, Sonic was trying to find another way of finding food. So he goes old school and tries fishing. Using a stick and some old rope he found in a shipwreck, sadly though it didn't look like he was having any luck.
"Aww man how the heck does Big do this every week. Sure its relaxing but it ain't good when the slo-mo fish aren't biting." Sonic groaned as he pulled in his line.
Just as he was about to hop off the rock he heard something, it was a faint boom. His ear twitched and he zoomed over to the near end of the beach to see what the noise was. Looking in the distance he noticed some water blasted up like an explosion.
"Huh, either Sailor Boy decided to have a twenty one shooting send off for this trip of his." Sonic guessed. "Or something tells me this ain't a cannon ball splash." He was about to run but could see the open ocean right in front of him. "Aww man water my old enemy." He groaned but he realised he had no choice if he wanted to find out what was going on.
"Okay okay." Sonic crouched down into a running position. "Gotta go fast!" He breathed and then blasted off running on the ocean but he found it hard to get up to full speed on the waves rising and falling. But he had to try and keep going.
Scuttle was perching on his rock looking through his telescope, the wrong way round. He wasn't on the look out for anything it seemed he was looking through it just for the sake of looking. Just as he was turning a speeding blue blur blasted past knocking him out of the crow's nest remains.
"Holy moly!" Scuttle said completely surprised. "The winds are really kicking up today!" He pointed his telescope into that direction only to see blur disappear towards what look like small explosions in the water.
Meanwhile: Under the sea:
Ariel and Flounder were still trying to escape the Chopper drones, which were still firing torpedoes at them and they narrowly escaped them. The two had to try and find a way to escape, and fortunately they found just quickly swam into a rock formation that was a tunnel of reefs and rock. They hid behind one of the rocks to take a breath after swimming so fast.
"T..that was close." Flounder breathed in fright.
"What are those things?" Ariel asked in between breaths. She slowly peaked round the corner but couldn't see any sign of that claw that tried to grab them. Slowly but surely they swam out of the cave thinking it was safe, but it was anything but safe.
*CLANG!* Ariel had been caught in the grip of one of the cables wrapping round her arms, suddenly another set of cables ensnared her tail-fin so she couldn't move or escape.
Surface:
The chase had taken everyone to some lone rocks on the ocean the Eggmobile hovered in place from the chase. The cable above pulled telling the mad Dr Eggman they hit something. "Hey boss you got a bite!" Cubot exclaimed happily.
"Yes now to reel in the emerald and who knows a lab fish!" Eggman smirked as he pushed on the controls and the cable started to reel in its prey.
Below the sea Ariel struggled to try and break free from the cables but she couldn't fight back against the pull of these strong cables. "Ariel!" Flounder exclaimed and tried to pull her back with his flippers but it was no good. She was getting closer and closer to the surface, she was so very afraid of what was going to happen next.
Eggman's smirk was getting wider and wider in anticipation but just as he was about to reel her in. *ZOOM!*
"WHAT!" A blue blur sliced the camel completely clean in half freeing the little mermaid who far below was more than releived. The blue blur then bounced off the rock wall and bashed right into the Eggmobile with a very familiar attack knocking it back the ball unrolled and much to Eggmans anger it was.
"SONIC!" He pointed to his nemesis who flipped in the air and landed on the rocks below.
"Yo Eggman fancy seeing you here, didn't take you as a drunken sailor!" Sonic smirked smacking his fist into his hand. Ariel peaked her head up close to one of the rock formation and saw her blue saviour on top. She was amazed and relieved that he came. She stayed hidden watching all this unfold.
"GRRR Why can't I ever seem to be rid of you you stubborn little Hedgehog!" Eggman exclaimed in rage.
"What're you doing out here anyway? Decided to go fishing?" Sonic teased.
"None of your business rodent, so how about we skip the usual banter and get right to it!" Eggman exclaimed. "ATTACK!" Suddenly the Chopper robot appeared from the sea and fired their missiles right at Sonic who jumped out of the way before they hit with a bang!
Sonic flipped and went into a spin ball and performed several homing attacks on three of the Chopper robots destroying them completely before landing on the top of one of them right on the mouth. The robotic fish suddenly opened its mouth forcing Sonic to do the splits and seeing he was about to fire a torpedo.
"Uh oh!" Sonic winched and quickly jumped and performed a homing attack blasting the torpedo back into its mouth destroying it completely but the blast catapulted him into the air and he was falling towards the sea. He freaked and blasted into a rock with a homing attack and landed on the rock.
Ariel was completely taken in and amazed with this blue creatures abilities, but it seemed clear he knew this human who tried to capture her, but still couldn't see why. Suddenly she and Flounder heard the sounds of evil laughter coming from the bloated villain.
"HAHAHAHAHHOHOHO! You know I thought you appearing here ruined my day but now its gotten even better!" Eggman exclaimed sadistically happy.
"Oh yeah?" Sonic said standing ready.
"Oh yes, for you see Sonic we're in the very environment that becomes your downfall! Look around, we're in the open ocean your one weakness!" Eggman smirked gesturing with open arms at their environment namely the big blue sea. "What's say you take a dip!"
Out of nowhere crashing down from the sky and into the sea was a large looking object. The blast from the waves nearly sent Ariel and Flounder flying as they held onto the rock concealing them from the fight. The water cleared revealing a large looking red and black robot with a curved centre body with large red and black jetpacks. The EggMobile then hovered over and inserted itself into its docking area when it did eight large tentacles emerged from its centre body. It thrusted at the Hedgehog on the rock.
Sonic leaps up from the rock then performs a homing attack on one of the tentacles and runs along it only to be met with the other seven tentacles which thrusted at him one by one. Only for the speedster to leap, flip and duck each of the attacks, however just as Sonic was about to attack Eggman in the cockpit he was suddenly ensnared by one of the tentacles. Ariel gasped in horror.
Eggman smirked. "HEHAHAHAHAHAH! Enjoy the water Sonic!" He thrusted Sonic right into the sea slamming him into the ground over and over again, then lifted him out and tossed him away and he hit the water with a splash. Sonic hit the ocean floor, suddenly seeing the remaining Choppper robots coming towards him. He tried to get up however when he tried to move he found his right leg was trapped in a coral bush and couldn't free it.
Seeing the Choppers getting closer and closer he tried to pull himself free but it was no use and he was starting to run out of air. He saw some air bubbles and amazingly sucked them into his mouth to try and hold his breath longer. The Choppers were getting ready to fire, when suddenly a large rock hit one in the eye knocking it off course and fired its torpedo into the robot fish next to it in a big bang.
Sonic was startled where did that rock come from? and when he turned round he swore he saw a girl swimming in the water, but she had a tail fin was he seeing things or was this girl familiar . It seems the remaining Choppers thought the same thing as they turned to where it came from. "Leave him alone!" It was Ariel who threw the rocks at the robot fishes who were swimming towards her.
Sonic quickly found a rock and smashed the coral grabbing his leg and managed to get free. He tried to run after the Choppers but he could barely move two feet, because a speedster under the water is rendered completely useless without bubble shields, air charms or hover shoes. That and he didn't have his friends to back him knew whoever tossed that rock was in trouble, but he was helpless to do anything. He looked around and found some seaweed close by and suddenly a crazy plan formed in his mind.
Ariel swam as fast as she could but her flipping tail fins were no match for the jet propelled engines of the robotic fishes. When suddenly something green caught onto one of the tails of the Chopper robot at the rear, with Sonic holding onto the other end and pulled him in the water as he pulled on the rope getting close to the robot. He jumped onto its back and latched the seaweed round its mouth and tried to tame it like a horse.
The Chopper bucked and reared trying to shake the blue hedgehog off its back but Sonic fought for control and steered it right into the robotic fish next to it causing both to explode. He whipped the seaweed towards the remaining Chopper and steered it upwards back to the surface. Leaving a completely surprised Ariel amazed at what he managed to do.
On the surface Eggman smirked almost triumphantly it would seem his enemy had drowned. However that triumph was short lived as blasting out of the water was his nemesis riding on one of his Chopper. "YEEEHAWWW!" Sonic called cowboy style.
Jumping from the robotic fish, the blue blur grabbed the seaweed rein and swung the robot right into Eggmans octomech blasting him back blinding him in the smoke. Just then Sonic went on the attack pummelling the mech with homing attack after homing attack before he landed back onto the rocks after his last strike.
"Grrr!" Eggman growled seeing the mech sparking with electricity and alerts all over the console.
"Boss she's coming apart at the seams!" Cubot exclaimed.
"Shut up idiot!" Eggman yelled before turning his glaring eyes to Sonic. "Here I come Sonic!" He charged his Octo-Mech towards his enemy and Sonic just smirked smugly.
Down on the waters surface, Ariel popped her head up with Flounder but kept out of sight of this mad scientist. As his nemesis drew closer and closer Sonic smirked and went into a spin dash blasting forwards right when one of the Octo-Mechs tentacles he slammed into it with all his force then jumped out of his spin and performed a series of homing attacks on the incoming seven tentacles destroying the tips completely.
The Octo Mech swung its de tipped tentacles towards Sonic who was quick to avoid them. However what he didn't see was the rocks were coming down towards a certain mermaid and her friend.
"Look out!" Flounder cried and Ariel quickly dove out of the way just as the rubble hit the sea and had just missed them, however one large stone hit Ariel in the head knocking her out. "Ariel!" Flounder cried as he swam to her put himself under her arm and tried to swim away.
Sonic landed on the ground and when he did he caught sight of what looked like a red head girl being carried away by a yellow and blue fish. It looked like she'd been hurt. He had to end this now. To finish off he jumped into the air ,grabbed one of the tentacles and ran down to the sea and despite not being at full speed he zoomed round the base of the mech tying it up in its tentacles in seconds.
The Octo-Mech was completely tied up and could only float in place as Sonic ran up the rock face and blasted into the sky and with a smirk and shine. "Lets go!" He went into a spin and blasted down towards his nemesis.
"No you don't!" Eggman yelled as he slammed down a button the chest of the Octo Mech opened revealing a giant looking energy cannon with pipes streaming red energy into the weapon. The cannon charged and fired a massive blast of energy right at the incoming spin. What happened next no one would believe for Sonic's spin cut right through the laser. The speed he was going broke the sound barrier creating a Sonic Boom and slammed right through the chest anime style! The centre overloaded with energy before finally it exploded with a large and loud bang.
The shockwave it created shook the waves of the ocean sending Flounder and the unconscious Ariel close to one of the rocks. Blasting out of the smoke was a yelling Eggman, Orbot and Cubot as the Eggmobile went soaring into the air with him yelling.
"THIS ISN'T OVER!"
Sonic landed on the ground and just smirked before yelling out. "Looks to me like it is!"
He felt pretty proud of himself, but then he remembered what he saw earlier, and looked around at his surroundings and just then out of the corner of his eye he saw her, lying on one of the rocks with her upper body just above the water. Sonic quickly ran over to her and saw this girl was unconscious, curious he gently flipped her onto her back and moved her red hair back so he could see her face. He had to admit she did look cute but he shook that some reason he thought that face looked a little familiar, then suddenly it hit him.
"Wait…it's you." He breathed, and he slowly shook her shoulder. "Hey…are you okay?" He asked very concerned because it looked like she had a blow to the head. He placed his hand on her cheek and listened, he could hear her breathing which was a good sign. He looked a little closer but then a faint groan came from her and slowly her eyes fluttered open.
Ariel saw a blurred figure of blue in front of her but then her vision cleared completely and she saw the blue hedgehog right in front of her. The two locked eyes for a minute then suddenly Ariel screamed in fright as she pushed Sonic away and dived into the sea.
"Hey wait!" Sonic called as he ran after her and she hid behind one of the rocks. The blue blur kept his distance for now as he didn't want to scare her. "Hey hey i…its okay, I'm not gonna hurt ya…are you okay nothing broken or anything?"
Truth be told the red head mermaid was a little shy as she really didn't expect this to be the way to actually meet the stranger. However she sensed the tone in his voice wasn't hostility at all it was genuine concern. So she peaked her head out from behind the rock and slowly approached him.
"Ah…I..I'm just fine." She stuttered. "Thank you for helping me from those things and that monster."
"Heh heh no problem it's kinda what I do." Sonic said bashfully tapping his nose. "So you alright what were you doing out here?"
"Oh I'm alright just a little tired, after swimming away from those monster fish." Ariel said trying to catch her breath."
"Well then let me help you out of the water." Sonic offered about to step into the shallows. Ariel just giggled nervously.
"Ah heh, that might be a little difficult." She said bashfully leaving a very confused Sonic but boy he wasn't ready for what was coming next, Ariel then dived down much to his shock then she leaped out of the water and she landed on one of the rocks close by.
Sonics eyes bulged out of his head for he saw that this girl was actually. "No way! Y…your a..a mermaid a mother flipping mermaid!"
Ariel giggled bashfully as she showed off her tail. "Yes thats right a mermaid."
"So I wasn't seeing things!" Sonic realised. "The girl who saved me from drowning when I first got here…th..that was you!"
Ariel just nodded smiling. "Well I guess I owe ya one thanks one more minute and I'd be one gone hedgehog!" Sonic rubbed the back of his head.
"I..it it was nothing I…I couldn't let you drown." Ariel said bashfully. "Wait what's a hedgehog?"
"Its what I am, but well ah lets just say I'm not from around here." Sonic shrugged. "Say I never got your name?"
"Oh I'm sorry, my names Ariel." She introduced herself.
"Ariel." Sonic said. "Wow thats a pretty name."
She giggled a little. "So what's your name?" Ariel then asked curiously.
Our blue hero knew he was a stranger in this world and didn't know too much about it just from running around, sure he knew a little about the kingdom and surrounding areas but not a lot about the world itself. Plus he couldn't pass up the chance for making friends. So with a smirk he pulled his signature thumbs up pose.
"I'm Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog. And what you see is what you get a little ball of super energy in a way past handsome package."
Ariel giggled amused at this little blue guys joke and just then. "Ariel!" Cried a voice. They looked to see Flounder emerged on the surface rather exhausted.
"Oh Flounder!" She said relieved as her little friend swam over. "Are you okay?" She asked.
"Y..yeah sure I..I'm okay." Flounder said shaking from the whole experience and then he noticed the blue hedgehog who was standing on the rocks.
"Ah!" He jumped in fright and hid behind Ariel's rock.
Ariel just giggled. "Ohhoho. Don't worry he's friendly he's the one who fought off those creatures." She explained and Flounder slowly swam out of his hiding place as Sonic greeted him.
"Hey little guy you okay?" He asked kneeling down.
"Oh I'm just fine." Flounder said shaking his fins. "But boy am I glad those monster fish are gone and that human who tried to catch us!"
"Yeah thats Eggman, but don't worry he's now singing a different tune!" Sonic joked but the very mention of the word sing made Ariel gasp in realisation she'd forgotten something.
"Sing!" She gasped. "Oh my gosh! The concert rehearsals! I forgot all about it!"
"Concert?" Sonic wondered. "As in music?"
"Yes and my fathers going to kill me if I don't get there now!" She said panicked. "I'm Sorry I've gotta to go now! Thank you for your help Sonic!" She got back in the sea and the two swam as fast as they could.
"You're welcome and hey can you meet me at the beach tomorrow!" Sonic called.
"Sure!" Ariel replied as the two dived down into the water and swam back to the undersea kingdom, all but prepared for the scolding they were going to get. Unbeknownst to them two certain eels were watching them from afar.
From her lair the sea witch had watched all that had transpired, and sneered sinisterly. "How interesting, this maybe promising…extremely promising." She smirked.
Atlantica:
Ariel and Flounder had gotten back to the undersea palace safely, sadly upon their arrival they were greeted by a less than pleased King Triton and Sebastian. Namely because they were late for rehearsals. So they were discussing the matter in the throne room.
"Ariel you were late for the rehearsals today! You know how important this musical is!" Triton scolded her.
"I'm sorry daddy I..I was on my way but I just lost track of time when I…Uh..found some sea shells." Ariel said covering her tracks.
"You missed rehearsals to collect some seashells?" Sebastian questioned.
"Yes uh they seemed pretty and I thought they'd be good for the concert." Ariel said. "Again I'm sorry if I missed rehersals."
Triton just sighed. "Ariel I know you like to venture out but do you realise that this musical is for all my daughters and imagine what could've happened to you!"
"Daddy I'm not a little girl anymore!" Ariel argued back.
"I recently heard from some of the creatures of the sea there was some kind of disturbance today probably the surface dwellers doing more damage to our reefs!" Triton said a little angered by this. His daughter could see he was referring to the little skirmish she was in the middle of between Sonic and Eggman.
"What if it wasn't humans?" Ariel asked.
"Why? You didn't go near the surface again did you?!" Triton asked a little interrogatingly.
"N..No of course not and I wasn't any where near whatever it was!" Ariel exclaimed defending herself.
The sea king just sighed and tried to stay calm. "Well the important thing is that your safe and home, but please try and make an effort to attend rehearsals for the musical."
"Yes, this is the pinnacle of my career girl and I intend to make dis a musical to remember!" Sebastian said with some pride in his voice.
"Okay Daddy I will, I promise." Ariel apologised.
"Good." Triton said giving his daughter a peck on the head. "Now go get some sleep dear daughter."
"Love you daddy." Ariel said as she and Flounder swam out of the throne room.
However before Ariel went to bed she had something to do first. She swam out of the palace and towards some of the rocked reefs. In one rock formation, there was a large rounded stone, and it looks like it it was blocking something. Ariel swam up to the stone took a quick double take to make sure she wasn't being followed and pulled it back almost like a secret door. She and Flounder swam inside the entrance and through a tunnel until they arrived at the end of it, and they emerged inside a very large grotto. The caverns and rocks were stacked high with what looked like every day objects from the surface from chests, old clocks, paintings, books, mirrors, vases, cups even candle holders. These were objects that Ariel and Flounder had collected from the shipwrecks under the sea.
She pulled the different treasures she'd gotten from the shipwrecks from a spoon, to some strange looking stones. However the last she pulled out was the blue emerald she'd found today. She still couldn't get over how beautiful it looked, but there was something unusual about it. She wondered if this was what those massive fish monsters wanted. Just as she lay down on the sand in the grotto, she also had a warm smile on her face sure she had a close call with a few metal monsters but at the same time she'd also made a new friend and as she gazed up at the moon light shining down into the sea she was so looking forward to tomorrow.
Authors notes: A...nd scene, whew thats been one heck of a second chapter, Ariel having a close call with Dr Eggman only to be saved by our blue hero and now they've properly met. Not to mention it seems our little mermaid has also found a Chaos Emerald! However it seems another party in the form of Ursula the Sea Witch now knows of the strangers from another world, lets just hope that Sonic knows what he's letting himself in for. Now for some of this chapter I've taken inspiration from the live action Sonic film where he first comes across Prince Eric before he sets out on a voyage dubbing him Sailor Boy, your going to find a lot of references from that in coming chapters. And of course I thought it be a good idea to include some good old fashioned comedy with Eggman, Orbot and Cubot even the idea of our moustached villian having a portable lab with him given its either go big or go home.
Now onto the next chapters where our two free spirited friends get to know each other a little better.
