Chapter 2: The Life of Miguel Rivera

Blue Tagg: You got that right, and thx.

Ainmals: Thx, and that's always refreshing.

Santa Cecilia, it's a average and you could say small town. But it's my home, and my name's Miguel Rivera. I'm 14-years-old, and I live in a small compound in town with my big family. And when I say big, I mean big.

I live with my parents, my grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. Things can get pretty crazy and crowded, but they're my family and I love them. My life may seem pretty average, I go to school, do chores, hang out with my friends, and enjoy playing my guitar.

However, there's one thing in my life that isn't average. I'm in a boy band, called the Chamacos. It's made up of me, and my three friends, Gabriel, Eduardo, and Jose. How did this happen? Well it all started with a talent show at our school.

The four of us decided to play in it, since we had our own little band, and we played and rocked the house. We won first place, and it was the best night of our lives. But things only got better from that, it turns out there was a talent scout in the audience looking for new faces for the music industry.

We impressed him, and he invited us to an audition at De La Cruz Records. After talking with our parents, they agreed to let us go for the audition, but an adult had to go with us. I picked my Tio Hector, because he's my favorite uncle and he used to be a musician himself.

At De La Cruz Records, we played a song and impressed everyone, including Ernesto De La Cruz, the CEO of the company. He offered us a recording contract, and after some more talking with our parents they agreed to let us try the contract for a year.

We asked my Tio Hector to be our manager, and that's how our band took off. We got our pictures taken, and they were put in magazines, websites, and posters. We got some gigs at fiestas, small concerts, and even at some hospitals.

It was amazing, people wanted our autographs, selfies, and we were celebrities. We earned a lot of money from our gigs, so life is great.

One Saturday morning, while I was still sleeping I was awoken by the feeling of someone climbing on me. I sat up, and saw my 2-year-old sister Socorro.

"Up, Gel." she said in her baby voice.

"Socorro, you're not an alarm clock." I told her.

Then my mama, Luisa came into the room.

"It's time to get up, Miguel." she told me.

Then she grabbed Socorro.

"Come on, bebe. We better get you changed."

When they left, I got out of bed and went to get ready for the day. After getting a quick shower, I got dressed in my jeans, white t-shirt, brown boots, and my red jacket. Once I was ready, I went to get breakfast.

As I walk down the hallway, I run into, Dante my Xolo dog.

"Hey, Dante." I greet.

He happily barked and then jumped on me to lick me face. I laughed, and then we went to get our breakfast.

In the kitchen, a lot of my family members were already there getting their plates or cooking food.

"Buenos dias, Miguel." greeted my papa, Enrique.

"Hola, Papa." I grabbed a plate, and went to grab some food.

My abuelita was serving everyone.

"Miguel, I hope you're hungry." she told me.

She then began filling my plate with eggs, chorizo, toast, and lots of other stuff.

"Abuelita, I have enough."

"Nonsense, Miguel. You can never have enough food."

With my plate full, I went to the table. As I began eating, my Tio Hector sat down next to me.

"You ready for today, Miguel?" he asked.

"Si."

Later that day, we had a meeting at De La Cruz Records to discuss another gig.

After breakfast, I did my morning chores which included cleaning up my room, helping around the family's shoe making shop, and keeping an eye on my little sister. Then when the time came, Tio Hector and I got ready to leave for the music studio.

"Oh, boys, wait." called my Tia Imelda, who was Tio Hector's wife.

"I made your boys some quesadillas for lunch, and there are extras for your amigos Miguel."

My younger cousin, Coco Imelda and Hector's 2-year-old daughter handed Hector a plastic container.

"Gracias, mija." Hector said.

"Gracias, Tia Imelda."

"Bye bye." Coco told us.

Then we left in Tio Hector's car.

Upon arriving at the studio, we went inside and rode the elevator up to the 10th floor. When we got off, we went to conference room where my friends/band mates.

"Hola, guys." I greeted.

"Hey, Miguel." said Gabriel.

"What's up?" asked Eduardo.

"Hola." replied Jose.

After they greeted my Tio Hector, De La Cruz came in.

"Buenos dias, everyone." he greeted.

"Hello, Ernesto. So what do you have in mind for the boys this time?" asked Hector.

"Something really special. I was on the phone with the owner of the in Mexico City, and they said they'd be honored host a concert at the Estadio Azteca in a couple months." he explained.

"A concert in another city? I asked.

"Sounds bueno." replied Gabriel.

"When do we start rehearsing?" wondered Eduardo.

"You'll start rehearsing as soon as we get back from a little meeting of your own." Tio Hector told us.

And he left with De La Cruz.

"Anyone hungry, my Tia Imelda made us quesadillas." I told, putting the container on the table.

"Quesadillas? I'm in." Eduardo piped up.

And he quickly grabbed a couple.

"Hey, leave some for us." Gabriel protested.

"Can you believe it? Our first concert in a different city." I say.

"It'll be asombroso." replied Jose.

"Si, I'd love to see that place. And maybe I can ask Tio Hector if we can bring Dante along."

"If we could bring Dante on stage that'll increase our popularity." said Eduardo, as he ate a quesadilla.

Then my tio and De La Cruz came back, and we got to work. We practicing our instruments, recorded a couple songs, and discussed future plans.

After we were all finished, my friends' parents picked them up, and Tio Hector and I went home.

"Tio Hector, the guys and I were wondering when we do our concert in Mexico City, could Dante come with us on stage?" I ask.

"Bring your dog up on stage?"

"Si, it'll be great. And I can get him to behave."

"We'll see."

Back home, after resting for a while, I did some homework, then I played with Dante along with my younger relatives, and then watched TV and had dinner with the family.

"So we got asked to do a concert in Mexico City in a couple months." I informed.

"En serio?" asked my papa.

"Really. It's gonna be great."

"Ernesto says it's a great opportunity for the boys." Tio Hector told.

"Well we'll be happy to see you on stage." my mama replied.

"And we'll be watching you on TV." added my Tio Berto.

And the rest of my family agreed.

That night, I was all ready for bed. I had just come back to my room from brushing my teeth I saw that Dante was already on my bed.

"Sometimes it doesn't seem real, Dante. I mean I'm in a popular boy band, my family's great, and I'm happy. I mean what could make my life better?" I ask him.

Dante just barked at me. Then I got in bed, turned off the light and went to sleep.
