On My Own

Chapter 17

Author Notes: Time for some trauma! I'm nearly at the twenty chapter mark, so i'm due for some hard core sleuthing. With us seeing why its a bad idea. I do not own Yugioh.

Blister wasn't sure if he was regretting recruiting Yusei or not now. But at the this point he was ready to get the kid out of here and go on his merry way. "Listen to me kid, you need to get out of there. That's enough for now. We now know how to get in, we can do this another day with backup."

It was always a possibility that Isao could be dead with how long he hasn't managed to get in touch with J-IPA, but it was always painful when there was confirmation. "No...no I can-I can keep going." He had to give the poor kid props for wanting to keep a brave face, but he could clearly hear him at his limits.

He just found his old man's bones-that shit would traumatize anyone. "No Yusei-get out of there." There was no need for him to see anymore shit right now. No need for him to further endanger his life.

This right here was enough evidence for J-IPA to get fully involved and shut the place down. Before when they found their dead employees, there was only speculation of them dying because of what they knew.

There was no living proof. The fact they found Isao and could confirm he was killed and left in a secret passage-this was plenty incriminating. "You wanted me here Blister...and we won't get another chance like this. And I'm Dust right now." The agent cursed the man out loud.

"This isn't the time to be stubborn dammit!" Even without the evidence, guilt was becoming a very familiar friend to the government official. And he refused to let Yusei follow in his old man's footsteps. Literally... "I'm going in." Despite it all though, the grieving fool still insisted on continuing.

His eyes burning with determination. No matter what he wasn't going to back down. He had to see this through. As much as he hated to admit it, Rally was right. For all it's worth, Yusei needed closure. Especially now that he knows what his father's fate is.

A frustrated sigh engulfs his ears, and he wasn't surprised. "Fine. But be careful dammit, and keep talking." Well he was going to continue regardless of what Blister had to say but it was nice that he got his permission. And that's what he did. Carefully and slowly he made his way through the rooms available.

It was actually surprising at how terribly these psychos did with hiding or destroying incriminating evidence. It seemed like the more he searched, the more he found. Each more disturbing than the last. Goosebumps formed left and right on his arms as he read out loud each report in his possession.

'Date xx/xx/xx. Subject: Luna Nightmarian. Age: 10. Status: Stage 2. Shows signs of psychic powers in relation with twin brother Leo Nightmarian. Able to read minds and feel emotions when in a high state of focus. Under high levels of stress can even share visions with sibling. When left isolated she tends to go into hysterics, when entering be sure to have tranquilizers on hand.'

Words couldn't describe how horrible these reports were. It seemed like a journal from whoever was watching these poor victims. Luna seemed to be the youngest of the bunch, but there were so many, the ages as old as twenty-seven being locked up and observed. Like lab rats.

It was disgusting and disturbing. "Give me a second Yusei...I'm looking up to see if Luna and Leo have missing posters around." He didn't have a second, instead of just listening to the typing of keys that click clacked into his ear, he heard something that gave him chills.

It was faint, but it still hit his ears all the same. "I'm checking out the next room." There was faint moaning. Someone was here despite it looking abandoned. "Wait what!?" The duelist winced at the loud screech that rang in his ear but he pressed onwards.

Grunting as he struggled to open the next door. "Yusei I swear to fucking-" He ignored the agent for that moment. Narrowing his eyes as he stumbles into the room. Just like the one he was just in, it was full of cells and chains.

The scent of blood was stronger in here, and he even found what looked to be fresher droplets. "Hello? Is anyone in here?" There wasn't a soul in sight, but he knew what he heard. And though it could just be his senses going on the frits from seeing his dad's bones, he could feel someone's gaze on him.

It wasn't like how he felt when Sayer and his cronies were watching him. No this one seemed harmless, scared. "What the hell are you doing?" Yusei glances around, just barely able to catch movement from the corner of his eye.

"Please...if there's anyone here come out. It's dangerous running around in this crap." There was a trickle of silence as the mechanic remained immobile, waiting for whoever was scurrying around to appear.

Only for him to jump when the sounds of chains harshly falling to the ground and a pained raspy curse filling the quiet space. It was loud. "Yusei stop ignoring me and report!" There wasn't time to give reassurances to the J-IPA agent as he rushed towards the noise.

Dark blue met frightened moss green. "Are you alright?" It was like finding a cornered wounded animal as the child, yes...a child with bright mint green hair try backing away. The chains that fell on them however was keeping them in place, blood and dirt covering the poor thing from head to toe.

"I'm not going to hurt you." It was like finding Rally going through his garbage all over again. The difference being this individual looked even younger, and gone through far worse. His voice was soft and quiet as he carefully approached.

He kept his hands up to show he meant no harm. One baby step at a time, the injured kid watched with trembling lips. Eventually though they let out a whimper, finally managing to use their voice. "D-don't come any closer!" It was hard to tell the young ones gender, but Yusei did as he was told.

Going down to his knees, staying right where he was told to stay. Something that started them. "I'm not going to do anything you don't want me to. But are you hurt? There's blood on your arm." Frantic green swiftly glanced down, seeing the red color staining his skin.

"No-it's...it's not mine. My sister. She..." Tears automatically pricked their eyes. This kid with how small and thin they were looked to be about ten or so, if not a little younger. And immediately Yusei thought back to one of the reports he found. "Are you Leo Nightmarian?"

For once Blister kept his mouth shut, but he had his entire focus on going back to searching on the report in question. His mouth twitched as he unsurprisingly found a missing poster for the set of siblings. "Y-yeah! How'd you know? You...you're not a bad guy right?" This was heart breaking to listen to.

Much to his relief though It seemed like his under cover agent knew just what to say to keep the boy calm. Something Blister was never able to do even during his field agent days. "My name is Yusei. I found a paper talking about you and your sister, pictures too. I only want to help."

Slowly, the man reached his hand out. "I know you're scared and don't trust me. But it's not safe to be out here alone. And I want to make sure you're not hurt." He would repeat himself as many times as need be.

So long as Leo understood that he was completely sincere with what he said. "But-my sister! Luna they...they took her! I need to get her back!" Once more the kid was struggling with the chains that fell on him. The heavy metal kept him in place, making him wince as he began panic struggling.

"I promise you that I will do whatever I can to find your sister and reunite you two. But I can't do that unless I know you're safe first." There was obvious hesitation. There was still a good several feet separating the two, even with the adult male's hand extended out.

Now Leo when compared to his sister wasn't smart. He was reckless, stubborn and impulsive. Everything about this guy finding him was suspicious, he should tell the guy to go away or keep fighting to get these heavy chains trapping him off.

But seeing such kind eyes that promised him a way out of this terrible place brought forth a hope he hasn't felt in a long time. "You mean it?" Yusei gave him a soft smile. "From the bottom of my heart. The choice is yours though Leo. I won't do anything you don't want me to."

There was nothing to stop the tears from flowing. "I want to go home. I want my sister back!" Leo was so upset he wasn't even aware of the man moving until he felt warm arms wrap around him. At first Leo flinched, afraid that this stranger would hurt him.

Just like the weird doctors that kept him and his sister locked away. But when nothing happened, when all he felt was the strong, comforting hug warming his freezing limbs up his cries became louder, completely raw.

"It'll be ok. I'm getting you out of here." The terrible weights that held him down were lifted, before those strong arms picked him up. Still gentle, with soft murmurs to give comfort. Leo wasn't sure when he closed his eyes, but for the first time in so long he was able to sleep peacefully.

No nightmares, no screams.

to be continued
