Episode 146: One Tricky Phony!

As they continue to make their way to Blackthorn City, Mew and her friends have done some training among themselves, along with meeting other trainers to battle with. Today, Mew is battling against a female trainer along with her Smoochum. Mew has Pikachu in the battle.

"I think this will be a great way for me to warm up for the Blackthorn Gym," Mew says.

"Pika!" (Me, too!) Pikachu says

"Mew is really psyched up," Misty says.

Brock has love in his eyes, "When it comes to meeting that trainer, I'm psyched up, too!"

The female trainer says, "Nothing makes my day like a brand new chance to beat another opponent! Now, let's battle!"

"Smooch!" (Yeah!) The Smoochum agrees.

The trainer calls out, "Josephine, use Sweet Kiss!"

Josephine the Smoochum charges in, giving out kisses.

"Dodge it, Pikachu!" Mew calls out.

Pikachu frantically does so and leaps over Josephine.

"Josephine, use Sweet Kiss once more!" The trainer calls out.

Josephine circles back around.

"Stay put and make it come close to you!" Mew calls out.

Pikachu, though baffled, does so until Josephine is in just the right range.

Then Mew calls out, "Agility, now!"

Pikachu leaps upward with incredible speed and Josephine kisses the dirt before looking around for Pikachu.

"Now, Pikachu, Quick Attack, go!" Mew calls out.

Pikachu comes down and nails Josephine from behind.

The trainer calls out, "Josephine!"

"Okay, Pikachu, Thunderbolt, now!" Mew calls out.

But just before Pikachu can unleash the attack…

"Stop it!" smoochun's trainer calls out.

Everyone is baffled by the sudden surrender.

"That was really a beautiful battle, but I think we've had enough," The trainer says.

"Talk about beautiful!" Brock happily says.

"Well, that was short and sweet," Misty says.

The trainer kneels down to her Pokemon, "Take a nice, long rest," and calls her back to the Pokeball.

"I guess that's it," Mew says.

"Pikachu," (Guess so.) Pikachu says.

"Such an intense battle tires me out," The trainer says.

"I suppose," Mew says. "I was hoping to continue battling for the Blackthorn Gym."

Hearing that, the trainer says, "Hey, if you still want to battle someone, why don't you guys go on over to the Battle Park?"

"What's the Battle Park?" Mew asks.

"We've never heard of it," Jen says.

"Me neither," Molly says.

"Oh, it's great!" The trainer says, "It's a park where lots of trainers take their Pokemon and battle. It's run by a staff of professional trainers, and you wouldn't believe how well those Pokémon have been taught to follow their trainer's commands. And the best part is, the Battle Park has almost every Pokémon there is."

"Wow. I'd really love to see it," Misty says.

"Pika!" (Me, too!) Sparkle agrees.

Mew turns to the others, "Maybe we can all go."

"Yeah. It sounds awesome!" Tomo says.

"I like to see it too," Molly says.

"Me too!" Jen says.

"If there are any trainers half as beautiful as you, count me in!" Brock says.

Misty and Mew roll their eyes, "Oh, good grief."

Meanwhile, at the Battle Park, Team Rocket are seen working as employees, shining up Pokéballs.

"Finally. This is the last one," Jessie says.

James says in a singing tone, "Ninety-nine Pokéballs on the wall, ninety-nine Pokéball."

Meowth does the same, "If one of dose Pokéballs should fall."

"Wobbuffet!" (Polish it!) Wobbuffet says.

Soon, another employee comes in with a box full of Pokéballs, "Hey!"

"Hey!" Team Rocket says.

"Since the park's closed today, it'd be a good time for you to go out and sweep it up," The employee says.

Team Rocket sighs in reply

Then the employee says, "Here's a few more dirty Pokéballs."

Team Rocket winces in shock.

"You've got the easy job. I have to go into town and shop. Bye!" The employee says and takes his leave.

"Have a nice day!" Team Rocket happily says.

The employee soon leaves as Team Rocket loses their cool.

Jessie slams her hands on the table, "Does he know who he's talking to?!"

"I'd say not!" Meowth angrily says, "Hey," Then grabs a Pokéball, "Dere's no one stoppin' us from takin' dese tings and scramin' outta here, you know!"

"Wait. We haven't gotten our first paycheck yet," James says.

"You know that's just chump change!" Jessie says.

Suddenly, they hear's Mew's voice, "Hello?!"

Mew and her friends are at the front of the Battle Park.

"Is anyone there?!" Jen calls out.

Misty sighs, "There's no one around."

"Do you think they're closed?" Molly asks.

"Must be, I don't see any workers or trainers around," Brock says.

Unknown to the group, Team Rocket eavesdrops from nearby.

Jessie quietly says, "It's the twerps.

"What do we do?" James whispers.

Meowth has an idea and quietly says, "I'll tell you what! Now's our chance to use dese park Pokéballs to catch dat Pikachu and Eevee!"

"I guess we just had bad timing," Misty says.

"That's okay, we'll come back tomorrow," Mew says.

Suddenly, Jessie approaches them, "Welcome to Battle Park!"

"Oh, we thought you were closed," Mew says

"Then you weren't thinking, were you? Because we're open 24/7, 365!" Jessie says, excited.

"Okay, then. Admission for a group of 6, please," Mew says.

Soon, the group is let into the park.

Then James appears, "At Battle Park, we're here to serve."

"What are all those Pokemon pictures behind you?" Misty asks.

"Normally, those are the Pokemon you can choose from to do your battling with, but we've been so super busy today that they've been spoken for. Really big bummer, huh?" James says.

The group seems confused.

"But I don't see anyone else. It looks like we're the only ones here," Brock says.

Team Rocket panics.

Then Jessie says, "They've all been put on layaway."

"Tough luck, but, if you dare, try the Pokémon Pot Luck Grab Bag Course," James says.

What's the Pot Luck Grab Bag Course?" Tomo asks.

"Well, it's a thrill a minute as you battle mysterious Pokémon guaranteed to be the most powerful Pokémon this park can produce!" James says.

"Just think of it! Testing your wits while thinking on your feet!" Jessie says.

"Strongest Pokemon in the park, huh?" Mew says.

Then nods, "Sure. Works for me. Let's go to the Pot Luck Grab Back Course!"

Soon, the group reaches the gate to the course.

"Just step through these doors and I'll be back in a jiff," Jessie says and runs off.

"Alright, let's go!" Mew says.

The gates soon open and multiple battlefields are shown.

"I wonder where all the trainers are that'll be battling you, Mew," Brock says.

"Me, too. This is so exciting," Misty says.

Just then, Jessie comes in, "Welcome to your battle site!"

They are soon seeing see Team Rocket in new disguises.

"But, aren't you...?" Molly questions.

But Jessie says, "Yes, none other than…"

"This park's unbeatable…" James adds.

Pokémon trainers extraordinaire!" Meowth says.

Jessie whispers to Meowth, "You're not involved in this part of it."

"So keep it down," James whispers.

Meowth whispers, "I wanna take a shot at bein' a Pokemon trainer, too."

Then Jessie turns to the group, "Okay! Time to get this battle battling!"

"But, who's gonna judge?" Jen asks.

This makes Team Rocket realize.

Jessie worriedly whispers, "We forgot the judge."

Well, don't look at me!" James adds, whispering in worry.

They both look to Meowth.

Meowth panics, "I can't be no judge!"

Then Brock volunteers, "I could officiate, if you like."

"Say! That would be just swell!" Jessie happily says.

Soon, the battle begins to take place.

"Then let the first battle begin! Challengers, step forward!" Brock announces.

Mew steps in, "Yes."

Then James step in, "Super! I choose you!"

James then takes a Pokéball as Jessie and Meowth watch in shock and worry

"No! Hold on!" Jessie panics.

"And what will come out?" James says and throws it, "Pokéball, go!""

And out of the first Pokeball, is Venusaur.

"A Venusaur first, huh?" Mew says, and takes out her Pokedex.

Dexter says, "Venusaur, the Seed Pokémon. A Grass and Poison Type. Venusaur uses its large pedals to capture sunlight and transform it into energy."

"Looks pretty strong, Mew," Misty says, "What Pokémon are you gonna start out with?"

Venusaur stomps the ground, ready to roll, and Ash feels its power.

"You're right, it's strong!" Mew says, "Since Venusaur's a grass type, I guess I'll use a fire type! Let's go, Cyndaquil!

Soon, Cyndaquil comes out.

"Oh, no," Jessie says, worried.

Meowth whispers, "He's not using Pikachu."

"I've logged tons of grass type hours with Victreebel," James says.

Then calls out, "Okay, Venusaur, Razor Leaf, now!"

Venusaur launches the attack.

Mew calls out, "Dodge it, Cyndaquil!"

Cyndaquil does so as the attack cuts three trees down, shocking Mew and Cyndaquil.

"Wow, that Razor Leaf. It's amazing!" Misty says.

"Talk about powerful," Tomo says.

Jessie is baffled, "James did that?"

"I tink so," Meowth says, just as shocked.

"I knew, my day would come. And now it's here!" James shouts with confidence, "Now, let's rock and roll! Venusaur, Tackle attack!"

Venusaur charges.

"Cyndaquil, dodge!" Mew calls out.

Cyndaquil does so, but Venusaur's second attempt proves successful as Cyndaquil is sent into a tree.

"Cyndaquil!" Mew cries out.

Jessie cheers, "Woo-hoo!"

"James is really in da zone!" Meowth says

"Cyndaquil manages to get up.

"Excellent, Venusaur!" James comments and calls out the next attack, "Now use Vine Whip!"

The vines rapidly extend out.

"Jump and dodge it!" Mew calls out.

Cyndaquil does so as the tree comes down.

"Its attacks are so powerful!" Misty says.

"And really strong," Tomo says.

James calls out, "Venusaur, Vine Whip again!"

The vines extend once more.

"Cyndaquil, you gotta dodge it!" Mew calls out.

Cyndaquil tries to avoid each strike, but ends up getting hit and falls to Ash's feet)

"Cyndaquil," Mew says in worry.

"Outstanding! Let's finish up with Razor Leaf!" James calls out.

Venusaur launches the attack.

Mew calls out, "Smokescreen, Cyndaquil!"

The attack manages to block Venusaur's and James' view of Cyndaquil.

"Oh no!" James panics.

Both trainer and Pokemon look around for their target.

"Wait! Now where did they go?" James wonders.

Then Mew calls out, "Cyndaquil, Swift attack!"

Cyndaquil soon fires from above and nails Venusaur's flower.

"Venusaur!" James cries out.

Cyndaquil soon lands

"Great, Cyndaquil," Mew says. Then calls out the next attack, "Now, Flamethrower!"

Cyndaquil fires the attack.

"Now dodge it, Venusaur!" James calls out.

Venusaur avoids the oncoming attack, but Cydnaquil follows it and scores a hit, pushing Venusaur back.

"Venusaur! What have they done?!" James cries out.

"James seems to have grown awful close to dat Venusaur," Mewoth says.

Jessie calls out, "Stop your blubbering and get back out there and win!"

"Let's see, I've used Tackle and Razor Leaf and Vine Whip. What haven't I used?" James says, "Steady. Steady. Think you can do a grass type Pokémon's most powerful attack?"

Venusaur nods in confirmation.

"Then let's give em a Solar Beam!" James calls out.

Venusaur starts charging the attack.

"Oh, yeah?" Mew says, "Cyndaquil, use Flamethrower!"

Cyndaquil fires the attack and it appears to land, but it's quickly overpowered as Venusaur fires the Solar Beam, sending Cyndaquil into a tree and taking it out.

"Cyndaquil," Mew says, worried.

Brock announces, "Cyndaquil's unable to battle! Venusaur's the winner!"

"I win!" James happily cheers.

Even Venusaur says, "Venu, saur." (We both did.)

"Cyndaquil, you were great. You have a good rest," Mew says, and recalls her Pokemon, "I sure didn't expect it to use Solar Beam."

"With a Venusaur that big and strong, it seemed like the only choice left," Misty says.

"Hey, this kind of practice is awesome. On to the next match!" Mew says.

Soon, the next match is about to take place.

"The second battle will now begin! Challengers, approach!" James says.

James places the Pokeball back inside, "Okay! Who'll be next?"

But Meowth comes in, "Hey! It's my toin, now!"

"No, it's still my turn!" James says.

"No, it, ain't!" Meowth argues.

"Mine!" James argues.

"No way!" Meowth argues.

While James and Meowth argue, Jessie takes one of the Pokéballs, "Excuse me. Coming through"

The two quickly realize what happened.

"Now, look!" Meowth cries out

"Sorry for the delay," Jessie says.

Then Brock announces, "And now, begin!"

"I'm dying to see what's in store for me!" Jessie says and throws her Pokeball.

And out of the Pokeball is Charizard.

"Whoa! A Charizard this time!" Mew says.

She gets out her Pokedex, and Dexter says, "Charizard, the Flame Pokemon. Charizard's powerful flame can melt absolutely anything."

"Oh, another powerful one," Misty says.

"That's no fair. I always wanted a Charizard," James cries out.

"Jessie and a fire type should not mix," Meowth says.

"I'll fight a fire type with a water type!" Mew says, and calls out, "Totodile, go!"

Totodile comes out and dances.

Jessie laughs, "I've always dreamed of becoming the most powerful trainer the world's ever seen, and now my day has finally come! Are you ready, Charizard?"

Charizard confirms.

Jessie calls out the first attack, "Use Poison Sting!"

Charizard is baffled while James and Meowth stumble in disbelief)

"Charizard can't do dat!" Meowth cries out.

Even Mew and the others are dumbfounded.

Mew calls out, "Totodile, Water Gun!"

Totodile fires the attack and nails Charizard square in the chest.

"That's no Arbok, Jessie!" James cries out.

"I told ya to read dis battle book, but no!" Meowth says.

"I don't have time for some boring bunch of bunk! I call the shots around here! Get it?!" Jessie shouts.

Then calls out, "Alright, Charizard, use Dig!"

"Jessie, how could it do that?!" James cries out.

"Dis is just embarrassing," Meowth says.

But to the surprise of everyone, Charizard does indeed use dig.

"Did it...?" Mew says, shocked.

James and Meowth are also shocked, "Oh my!"

"Oh, yes," Jessie cheers.

"Whoa!" Brock says.

"Wow. I have never seen a Charizard use Dig before!" Jen says.

"That's cool!" Tomo says.

"You gotta be careful Totodile, cause Charizard could pop out anywhere!" Mew says.

Right on cue, Charizard does emerge.

"Now, I'd like you to use Iron Tail!" Jessie calls out.

James and Meowth cires out, "It can't do that/dat!"

However, to everyone's surprise, Charizard's tail flame starts glowing as the tail itself comes down.

"Dodge it, Totodile!" Mew calls out.

However, Totodile gets sent flying by the impact of the move.

"Okay, Totodile?" Mew calls out.

"Totodile gets back up," Totodile says, and gets up.

"Can Charizard learn Iron Tail?" Molly asks.

"What do I know? All of the rules that I've learned are out the window," Brock says.

"Now, use Iron Tail one more time!" Jessie calls out.

Charizard's tail flame glows again.

"You're not gonna win using that!" Mew calls out, "Totodile, dodge it and use Headbutt!"

Totodile does so, forcing Charizard to have a seat.

"Now, Totodile, use Scary Face!" Mew calls out.

Totodile does so.

Jessie calls out, "Charizard, you use your Scary Face!"

Charizard does so.

"You won't beat us!" Mew says.

"Think again! Make your face scarier!" Jessie calls out.

The two Pokemon stare each other down.

"Totodile, even scarier!" Mew calls out.

Totodile does so.

Jessie calls out, "Charizard, show them what scary really means!"

Charizard obliges.

Mew calls out, "Totodile, even scarier than that!"

"Way way way scarier than that one!" Jessie calls out.

Both Pokemon soon fall over.

"So who out-scared who?" James asks.

"I'm not sure if I'd call dat scary, or distoibin'," Meowth says.

"Totodile, Water Gun!" Mew calls out.

Totodile fires.

"Let's see," Jessie thinks and says, "Yes! Charizard, take flight and dodge it!"

Charizard takes to the sky.

"You know, she's not half bad," Jessie says, impressed.

"But it's de udder half I'm worried about. I've seen da craziness dat loiks dere," Meowth says.

"I'm sure there's an attack or two I've forgotten about," Jessie says, but soon remembers, "Aha! Yes, yes, of course! Charizard, Flamethrower!"

Charizard fires, "

"Totodile, use Water Gun!" Mew calls out.

The attack fires, and both attacks collide, but the flames prove to be more powerful and engulf Totodile.

"Totodile, get up! Get up, please!" Mew calls out.

"Totodile does so and shakes the soot off.

"Yeah! Way to go!" Mew cheers.

Then Jessie calls out, "Now, Charizard, Flamethrower again!"

Charizard flies out again.

Mew calls out, "Totodile, heads up and shoot Water Gun at the ground!"

Totodile does so, narrowly avoiding the oncoming Flamethrower while Charizard swoops down and up.

"Watch out!" Jessie cries out.

Totodile soon appears right behind Charizard.

Misty calls out, "Look at that!"

"Hey, that's new!" Brock says.

"Totodile, Water Gun, now!" Mew calls out.

Totodile fires the attack, hitting Charizard in the back and forcing it down in defeat)

"Charizard!" Jessie cries out.

Brock announces, "Charizard's unable to battle! Totodile wins!"

"Yeah! We did it!" Mew cheers.

Totodile does a victory dance.

Jessie cries out in defeat, "Totodile can't fly, that's not fair!"

"You've seen da rest, now here's da best!" Meowth says and about to grab another Pokeball.

But James says, "And that's me!"

"I'm next!" Meowth argues.

"Me!" James agues.

"No, me!" Meowth argues.

"Me!" James argues back.

"My toin!" Meowth argues back

"Mine!" James says.

"No, mine!" Meowth argus.

As the two argue, Jessie sneaks another Pokéball, "Okay, one more!, and laughs.

But Meowth notices and shouts, "Dat's not fair!"

"All's fair in love and war, and besides that, I have a reputation to repair," Jessie says.

"It's too late." Meowth says.

"You just leave the battling to an expert! Meanwhile, you two make yourselves useful and grab some goodies to take when I win this," Jessie says.

"But I didn't even get a chance to battle once," Meowth says.

"Quit your bellyaching or you'll battle me!" Jessie says.

"Right!" James and Meowth say.

That's one win for each," Misty says.

"Well, not for long. I'm winning no matter what comes at me this time!" Mew says.

"The last battle will now begin! Challengers, step forward!" Brock says.

"Whee! The fun's just beginning, so Pokéball, go!" Jessie says and calls out the Pokeball.

Soon, Blastoise comes out.

Jessie happily says, "Oh, joy! I got a big, strong, handsome Blastoise!"

"Wow!" Mew says and brings out her Pokeball, "A Blastoise for my final battle!"

Dexter says, "Blastoise, the Shellfish Pokemon. A Water Type. Blastoise uses the hydro pumps on its back to fire out extremely powerful blasts."

"Pretty cool. Though, it's kind of crazy that I'm fighting three evolved forms of my Pokemon," Mew says.

Then Mew calls out, "I'll be using my Pikachu this time!"

As Pikachu agrees, Jessie looks through the battle book Meowth had "I'm not taking any chances this time. I've gotta battle this one by the book."

"Pikachu, Quick Attack!" Mew calls out.

Pikachu dashes forward.

"Wait! I'm not ready!" Jessie panics.

Pikachu's attack lands.

Jessie calls out, "Quick! Blastoise, use Skull Bash, now!"

Blastoise turns right around and gets in position.

"Pikachu, dodge it, now!" Mew calls out.

Pikachu quickly somersaults over Blastoise and lands behind it.

"Pikachu's really quick!" Brock says.

"When it comes to speed, no Pokémon comes close," Misty says.

Jessie looks through the battle book, "How to deal with speed. Here we go!" Then she calls out, "Now, Blastoise, Bubble attack!"

Blastoise calls out the attack.

"Pikachu, Quick Attack!" Mew calls out.

Pikachu zooms around the Bubble barrage until he hits Blastoise right in the jaw.

Let's end this one, Pikachu, Thunderbolt!" Mew calls out.

Pikachu launches a furious attack.

Jessie continues to look through the book, "Let's see, looking for a good defense." Then finds the page, "Oh! Okay, Blastoise, Withdrawal!"

Blastoise retreats into its shell as the attack lands.

Jessie, "flips through the book swiftly, "Hurry, Jessie, big attacks, big attacks, big attack" And soon finds it, "Eureka! Blastoise, Hydro Pump!"

Blastoise emerges and fires the attack.

"Pikachu, quick, dodge it!" Mew calls out.

Pikachu promptly does so, but gets blown away after the attack follows him and flies right into a tree.

"Perfect! "Jessie says, "Hydro Pump again!"

Blastoise fires the attack once more, nailing Pikachu.

"Pikachu!" Mew cries out.

"Pikachu! Everyone also cries out.

"This could be it!" Brock says.

"Come on, I gotta do something," Mew says. But then has an idea, "That's it! Pikachu, make the most powerful Thunderbolt you can!"

Pikachu uses his Thunderbolt attack and it overpowers the Hydro Pump and nails Blastoise.

"Awesome!" Brock cheers.

"That was so great!" Misty says.

"Yay!" Jen and Molly cheers.

"Finish up, Pikachu!" Tomo says.

Mew calls out, "Pikachu, give em a Thunder!"

Pikachu then fires a powerful Thunderbolt with incredible force, enough force to make the ground split, and nails Blastoise.

"What?! How dare you!" Jessie cries out.

Jessie tries to retreat, but ends up getting crushed and shocked.

"Blastoise, you are through," Jessie says, and recalls Blastoise.

Then Jessie calls out, "Arbok, let's go!"

And Arbok comes out.

"It's Arbok!" Mew says, shocked.

Jessie calls out, "Arbok, Poison Sting!"

Pikachu dodges the stingers left and right, but gets grabbed by a mechanical arm. Eevee tries to help, but is grabbed as well.

"Pikachu, no!" Misty cries out.

"What are you doing?!" Brock demands.

And with that, Team Rocket begins their motto.

Jessie: (removes her disguise)

Prepare for trouble with a capital T!

James:

Make it double, we're on a stealing spree, using park Pokémon potpourri!

Meowth:

Try saying dat twice!

And it's revealed that the mechanical arms are operated by James and Meowth in the hot air balloon.

"Team Rocket, give back Pikachu and Eevee!" Mew demands.

"Pikachu and Eevee are staying with us, along with a few udder tings!" Meowth says.

"Like these park Pokéballs!" James says.

Soon, the man from earlier shows up, "You can't take those balls! They're the parks' property!"

"But we consider it a park souvenir, since we had such a ball!" Jessie says, on the rope.

Team Rocket laughs in triumph.

"No, you don't," Mew says and calls out, "Totodile, I choose you!"

Totodile comes out.

Misty does the same, "Okay, Politoed, go!"

Polittoad also comes out.

Both of them call out, "Use Water Gun!"

Totodile uses Water Gun to free both Pikachu and Eevee.

Mew catches them and asks, "You both okay?"

Pikachu and Eevee nod in reply.

Politoed, meanwhile, continues to clap

"I told you to use Water Gun, not cheer along," Misty says.

Politoed fires and hits the balloon, making a hole in Team Rocket's balloon. Politoed claps as Team Rocket's balloon crashes.

"Ow," Meowth yelps

"Not again," Jessie says.

James soon notices, "Twerps."

Mew and her friends arrived on the scene.

"You're done!" Mew says.

"Dream on! We have enough artillery for a whole army!" Jessie says.

"Perhaps we should begin the troop invasion," James says.

"Finally, I'll get my toin," Meowth says.

Wobbuffet then says, "WOBBUFFET!" (Let's do it!)

Team Rocket throws their Pokeballs, "Go!"

All three of the Pokemon Mew battled against come out.

Jessie says with confidence, "You know, I've never felt so powerful.

"We're finally a force to be reckoned with!" James says.

"Sos I reckon you start fightin'!" Meowth says.

However, the Pokemon turn on Team Rocket.

Jessie nervously says, "Hey. It's a rebellion."

"About face! Forward march!" James shouts.

"We're da trainers, you're da Pokémon, obey!" Meowth says.

The employee says, "Oh, that's right, how could you have known? These Pokémon are amazingly obedient, when you're inside the park!"

Team Rocket panics as the three Pokemon fire a respective Flamethrower, Hydro Pump and Solar Beam that combine together and send Team Rocket soaring.

"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Team Rocket cries out.

Later that evening, the group is thinking back on their experience in the Battle Park.

"So, Ash, two wins with one of them by default," Brock says.

"I know it was just Team Rocket and all, but you still got to battle Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise. Pretty good training, don't you think, Mew?" Misty says.

"Yeah. It was a great way to get psyched to win that last badge!" Mew says.
