Episode 127: Dues and Don'ts

On a bright sunny day, Mew and her friends are continuing on their way to Mahogany Town and Mew's next gym match. However, they come across a giant football goal post.

"It's a football field with goals and everything!" Brock says.

Then Jen says, "Look, someone's there."

What they see are three figures dressed in football gears. They let out a chuckle, and familiar Team Rocket chuckles.

"Are you football players?" Misty questions.

"Who knows," Mew says.

So the question is answered by the Team Rocket motto.

Jessie:

Prepare for trouble, don't drop the ball!

James:

And make it double, with an offside call!

Jessie:

To protect our team, we won't call it quits!

James:

We'll unite our winners with a fourth round blitz!

Jessie:

To denounce the evils of an eighth round pick!

James:

To extend our reach with a three point kick!

Jessie:

Jessie!

James:

James!

Jesie:

Team Rocket does one for the giver at the speed of light!

James:

No time outs, the clock's running, so let's fight, fight, fight!

Meowth:

Touchdown! Dat's right!

"What do you three want?" Tomo questions.

"Hey, if some of us sit this one out, there'd be enough of us for a scrimmage!" Brock says.

"That's exactly right. Now go long and catch this ball!" Jessie says.

"Bombs away!" Meowth says, and presses a button on the football.

Revealing that is no football.

"What?!" the group cries out.

"Okay, Jimmy, make us proud!" Meowth says and hikes the ball to Jessie.

Then Jessie sets the ball up for a place kick from James.

"Three points!" James says.

Soon the ball heads over the goal post.

"Right back at ya!" Mew shouts and kicks the ball right back to Team Rocket.

Jessie shouts, "No fair, you're offside!"

"Cheaters!" James shouts.

James kicks the ball back, causing the timer to tick down again.

"I've got it!" Brock shouts and kicks the ball back.

"Hey, dat wasn't our game plan! You're supposed to run wit da ball!" Meowth shouts,

"They'll get a kick out of this!" James says, and prepares to kick the ball.

"Pikachu, Thunderbolt em!" Mew says.

Pikachu leaps and does so, allowing the ball bomb to land and the timer to run out.

"Uh oh," Team Rocket says with a meekly tone.

Then the bomb explodes, sending Team Rocket blasting off.

Team Rocket screams, "Team Rocket's blasting off again!"

Flying in the air, James says, "Well, this business does have its ups and downs, now doesn't it?"

"Yes, but the ups are far too quick and the downs far too painful," Jessie says.

"So let's make dis one painless," Meowth says.

The three pull cords on their belts and bring out parachutes, and suddenly hears Wobbuffet's voice.

"Like floating on a cloud," Meowth says.

"Lighter than air," James says.

Turns out Wobbuffet has gotten out of the Pokeball again, and is hanging by Jessie's legs.

Jessie shouts, "Hey! Get back in your ball!"

Just then Happiny comes out and hangs on Jessie's head.

Jessie panics, "Happiny, you need to get back in your ball! It's dangerous!"

As a result of Wobbuffet's shenanigans, Jessie fumbles into her teammates' parachutes.

Team Rocket muffles, "Another crash landing!"

They soon do crash land.

"Painful," James says.

"But predictable," Meowth says.

"Wobbuffet!" (Sure is.) Wobbuffet says.

"This is your doing," Jessie says, glaring at Wobbuffet.

"Happiny," (Sorry.) Happiny says.

"Happiny says she's sorry, but it's not your fault," Moewth says.

"Meowth is right. Now back in your ball, both you and Wobbuffet," Jessie says, and calls back both her Pokemon.

"Aren't you being a little harsh?" James questions.

Jessie and Meowth are puzzled.

"We've never beaten those heroes before, Wobbuffet or no Wobbuffet," James says.

Jessie crosses his arms, "You're right."

"Well I suggest we call a meeting!" Meowth says.

Soon, said meeting is underway.

Meowth pounds with a gavel, "Come to order."

"We're all present and…" James says.

"Accounted for," Jessie says.

Happiny comes out on Jessie's shoulder, "Happiny," (I'm here.)

Then Wobbuffet, "Wobb-uffet!" (Let's begin!)

Then Jessie sternly says, "So, riddle me this, fellow teammates. Why do we keep losing to the losers?!

All three of them stop and ponder.

"Well, don't just sit there, say something," Jessie says.

Then James says, "Since no one wants to say anything, we could be democratic and take a vote."

"I second that!" Jessie says, raising her hand.

"Second what?! Vote on what?!" Meowth questions.

Then Jessie says, "On who we can blame for our lack of success. All those for Meowth, say aye."

James, Happiny, and Wobbuffet both vote in favor.

Offended, Meowth says, ""Oh, yeah? Well, who votes it was James?!

Jessie, Happiny, and Wobbuffet both vote in favor.

Now James gets defensive and says, "We all know where most of the bumble brainstorms come from! All for Jessie, say aye!"

Meowth and Wobbuffet both vote in favor. Happiny puffs her cheeks in anger. And then she gives James, Meowth, and Wobbuffet a pound attack in response. Then lands in Jessie arms.

Jessie happily pats Happiny, "Thank you Happiny."

Then glares at the others, "Still, that's ridiculous! Now, who vote for Wobbuffet, show me your hands! Say aye!

James and Meowth both vote in favor while Wobbuffet panics. Even Happiny votes on it.

However, Jessie says, "We're getting nowhere fast!"

Then James suggests, "Hey, let's try Rock Paper Scissors!"

But Meowth says, "Rock Paper Scissors won't woik for dis!"

"You're right, Meowth," Jessie says.

Then James asks, "But now what?"

Team Rocket says, "That's the question."

James realizes something, "Hold on."

"Yes? Yes?" Jessie and Meowth ask eagerly.

"The twerp team is comprised of six people, while we only have two people," James says.

Offended, Meowth says, "What about me?!"

"I'm afraid you're not a people," Jessie points out.

Meowth screams in realization, "Oh, da shame. I forgot dat I'm a Pokémon."

Then James says, "And come to think of it, that Pikachu and Eevee never hangs out in its Pokéball. Never ever."

"Neither do I, bub!" Meowth says.

And Jessie shouts at Meowth, "But who cares?!"

"Hey, I do!" Meowth shouts back.

"Besides that, they have that, Togepi," James says.

"Big deal, we've got our Wobbuffet to be as omnipresently annoying as that puny little pest," Jessie says.

"Wobb-uffet!" (It's my job!) Wobbuffet says.

Then James says, "So that evens that out. But ponder the piles of other Pokémon that those putrid pukes possess, while all we have left is one Weezing, an Arbok, and an overly passionate Victreebel. A little Happiny with uh, close to no battling experience."

Then Meowth says, "But, wait! Yous forgot all about da secret weapons we got.

Jessie furiously swings her hair around as she screams, ""Are you kidding me with those secret weapons?! Not one of them has worked yet!"

"Wobbuffet!" (She is right!) Wobbuffet says.

Then James and Meowth grab and beat up Wobbuffet, "Stay out of this!"

"Wait for me!" Jessie shouts and joins in.

All three of them proceed to beat up Wobbuffet before they end up fighting each other as well, giving Wobbuffet an opening to escape.

Then Jessie grabs Wobbuffet, "You get back here!" pulls Wobbuffet back in.

Then Jessie screams, "Hey! Watch the face! Watch the face!"

A little later…

"That went well," Jessie says.

Happiny rubs Jessie's head for comfort, bringing a smile on her face.

"But it was a fair vote," James says.

"If dat's da democratic way, I'm voting republican," Meowth says.

"Perhaps we should call the home office and ask them to send us out some new Pokémon now," Jessie says.

"But Jess, don't you know how much we owe them already?" James says.

"I owe em all nine lives," Meowth says.

"Guess you're right," Jessie replies.

The failure three start wandering around in an open field.

"To make matters worse, I have a blister," James says.

Jessie says, deflated, "It's just one thing after another, after another, after another, after another."

"Happiny Happiny," (After another, after another.) Happiny says.

Soon, Happiny notices something, "Happiny Happiny…?" (Huh, what's that?"

"What's what, Happiny?" Meowth asks.

Happiny points ahead, "Hap Happiny," (Look over there.)

The group looks to see a Pokemon trapped in some cage with a speaker on it. A red, avian Pokémon with a white, hollow tail. Its face and chest are covered in white feathers with two, three-pointed crests above its eyes. Black markings surround its circular eyes, and it has a light yellow beak and feet. There is a single white spot on its stomach. Its feet have two digits each.

"What kind of Pokemon is that?" Jessie asks

They get a closer look.

"It's a strange place for a cage," Meowth says.

Then Jessie suspects, "It feels like a trick."

The loudspeaker suddenly starts speaking, "This Pokemon is called a Delibird. I've caught ever so many of these Pokémon that I'm just leaving it here."

Jessie happily says, "James, our luck has finally changed!"

"All that whining and complaining really paid off!" James happily says.

Then the Loudspeaker says, "You are most certainly most welcome to catch this Delibird if you so desire, but use extreme care as to how you catch it. As this is one powerful Pokémon.

The loudspeaker explodes, causing Team Rocket to panic, followed by the disappearance of the bars of the cage.

"Just so our luck doesn't turn again, I'll catch it myself!" Jessie says and throws her Pokeball, "Go, Arbok!"

James does the same, "Go, Weezing!"

Both Pokemon come out of the Pokeball.

Jessie calls out, "Weezing, Smog attack!"

Weezing launches the attack, but the Delibird leaps upward.

"Hold it! That blubbery bird thing can fly!" James says in shock

The Delibird sends snow towards Team Rocket.

"It's a Blizzard attack!" Jessie cries out.

"How do you know it's a Blizzard attack?" James asks.

"Maybe because we're in a blizzard," Jessie says.

"Oh, that makes sense," James says and calls out, "Now, go, Victreebel!"

Victreebel comes out, but it tries to eat James instead before it chomps down on Jessie's hair.

"Not me, too!" Jessie cries out.

Then James calls out, "Victreebel, if you're hungry, devour that Delibird!"

Victreebel launches a Razor Leaf at the Delibird, but it dodges and launches another Blizzard, freezing Victreebel.

Then Jessie returns it, "Return, Victreebel!"

"Oh, so you want to play some more," Jessie says, getting frustrated.

Then Jessie calls out, "Arbok, Poison Sting attack, now!"

The attack fires, but another Blizzard from Delibird freezes the stingers solid before Arbok and Weezing are frozen solid, as well, before Delibird charges.

"Your turn, Wobbuffet," Jessie says, and calls out the attack, "Let's go. Counter!"

Wobbuffet then uses a Counter Attack that bounces back to Delibird, causing Delibird to be knocked back and out.

"Well, I have a whole new opinion of Wobbuffet," James says.

"That was my Wobbuffet, right?" Jessie says, and brings out a Pokeball, "So, now that chunky little chickadee is mine, all mine!"

But James says, "Oh, no you don't, it's mine!"

"I dropped that Delibird, fair and square!" Jessie argues.

James argues back, "It's mine!"

"It's mine!" Jessie argues.

James argues, "Mine!

Jessie argues, "It's mine!"

"Mine!" James argues.

Suddenly, as the two bicker, the Delibird is recalled and the trainer is soon revealed to be an old lady.

Suddenly, someone speaks out, "Stop all your cackling. That Delibird is mine."

"Yeah? Well who do you think you are?" Jessie demands.

Then the old woman says, "I'm pleased to report that you just past your test with flying colors."

"Past our test?" Jessie says.

"I didn't study," James adds, just as confused.

"I'm a talent scout for Team Rocket," The woman says.

"You're a what?" Team Rocket say, confused.

The Talent Scout says, "After watching you battle in those wonderfully phony Team Rocket outfits, I'm sure you're perfect. Do you play Team Rocket dress up often?"

"Dress up?" Jessie and James say, confused.

And then Jessie says, "Wrong! We are one hundred percent, undeniably, the real deal!"

"That's impossible. Just take a look at this," The woman says, and holds out a picture of a Team Rocket grunt, "A real uniform."

Jessie chuckles, "Well, you see, we designed our own costumes to reflect our free spirit."

Yes. And our sense of stylish good taste," James says.

But the Talent Scout isn't convinced, "Don't feed me those apples. I've seen more and more fake phony frauds like you over the countryside claiming to be in the real Team Rocket."

"But we really are," James says.

"We're not lying," Jessie says.

Talent Scout also adds, "And with the coppers cracking down on us harder than ever, I regret to say we're faced with a severe shortage of Team Rocket members. Maybe you kids should consider joining Team Rocket. You know, the real McCoy."

Jessie says, "Will you read my lips? I told you, we ARE in the real Team Rocket."

"Well, you sure don't look like it," The Talent Scout says, and then gets out a calculator and shows the results, "I'm prepared to offer this."

"Wow," James says.

"Quite a sum," James says.

Then James says, "Let's join, Jess."

But Jessie says, "We can't join twice, it wouldn't be long before we're found out."

You're right. We could get in big trouble," James says.

The talent scout shouts, "Hey! What's all the muttering about?! Are you in or are you out?! Sometime before the next century, if you please!"

"But I've told you that we've been there and that we've done that," Jessie says.

"I need proof! Show me your ID or your membership card!" The scout points out.

"My membership card, yes, good idea," Jessie says.

And James brings out his, "Okay, here's mine."

Looking at the card, the Talent Scout points out, "This card ain't worth a hill of dry beans, it's expired!" Then she gets out a computer as James panics, "You've not paid your dues for several years. You've also not contributed to pension and welfare, or the Rocket Retirement fund. In fact, you two have been removed completely."

Jessie and James cry out in shock, "Removed completely?! N-n-n-n-no!"

See for yourselves, read em and weep," The Talent Scout says.

Jessie and James frantically scroll through the list to see their names, but can't find them.

Jessie in defeat, "Yow!"

"The humiliation!" James says, feeling humiliated.

Then Meowth says, "My toin! My Team Rocket Pokemon registration numbah, is aha, here. And…"

But all that comes up on screen is the word 'no', causing Meowth to sulk like his teammates

Talent Scout says, "So, there you have it."

Jessie soon begins sobbing, "Then who am I?"

"What shall I do now?" James says, sobbing as well

"Da pain. Da shame," Meowth says, feeling ashamed.

"Alright, that's enough!" Jessie shouts.

Then James says, "We'll go underground and start our own Team Rocket bad guys cool gang!"

"Got a problem with that?" Jessie questions.

But the scout says, "Chill out! Why not just re-register with Team Rocket for crying out loud?"

Which the three see her point.

"You know, our senior recruiter here may have a point. Why not just join up again?" James says.

"You know, let's," Jessie agrees.

Meanwhile, at the Team Rocket building, the receptionist makes a call to someone. A woman with green hair, who is part of Team Rocket.

Soon a voice picks up, ""What is it?"

The woman says, "Giovanni, this is Wendy from Human Resources. Our Johto Regional recruiter has found a couple of potential candidates."

As Wendy talks, the scene transitions to Giovanni's office in Kanto.

Giovanni says, "Very interesting. Although we're cutting back on useless staff, I suppose it is necessary for an evil organization to look for promising evildoers to add to our evil team."

"I've uploaded their data, sir," Wendy says.

Giovanni soon sees who the recruits are.

"Jessie," Wendy says, a little shocked.

A flashback soon begins when Wendy and Jessie were in training.

"Ahh! There's nothing like a fruit smoothie after a grueling workout. Be a dear and take care of the bill, please? I'll pay you back later! See ya!" Jessie says.

"Uh, Jessie," Wendy says.

Flashback Ends:

Wendy growls in anger, "She still owes me that money!"

"What's going on out there? Giovanni questions.

"Uh, it was nothing," Wendy says, "It's just that they borrowed a large amount of money from us and not paid a cent of it back."

Giovanni sighs, "It's always something with those three."

"I must suggest that we cut our losses and block their reinstatement with Team Rocket," Wendy says.

But Giovanni says, "No, just keep an eye on them until they've paid their loan. But if it seems they can't pay it back, we'll have to strike them out as members."

Persian yawns.

Back in Johto…

The talent scout and Team Rocket are looking overhead.

"There's just one more tiny, little exam," The talent scout says.

"There's more?" James questions.

Looking through the binoculars, the Talent Scout says, "You must encounter and attack a Pokemon trainer head on. Well, it's your lucky day. There just happens to be a whole group of traveling trainers and they're yours for the tak…"

But before the scout can finish, Jessie takes the binoculars, "Really?"

She looks to find none other than Mew and her friends.

"What?! It's the twerps!" Jessie says, furiously.

"So, you know them?" The Talent Scout questions.

Yes, we know them. But without some super high tech weapon, they're unbeatable! We've tried and we've tried and tried and tried!" Jessie angrily says.

"So we'd need to borrow more money," James says.

"Well they sure as shooting don't look very tough to me," The Talent Scout says.

"They may not look very tough, but they're tougher than we are, sister," Jessie says.

"That means you're not too tough, eh?" The Talent Scout points out.

"Speak for yourself, granny!" Jessie says.

Talent Scout then says, "Tell you what. You can use my Delibird and give it a go."

"Whoa!" Jessie happily takes the Pokéball, "You mean you'd really do that for us?"

"You know, with just one more strong Pokémon…" James says.

"We just might…" Jessie says.

"Do we dare?" James says, excited.

"Yeah! Dare to dream!" Meowth says.

Team Rocket cheers, "We're number one!"

"Wobbuffet!" (Let's go get em!) Wobbuffet shouts.

"Happiny!" (Let's go!) Happiny happily says.

Down on the road...

Mew and her friends are walking down the road.

"Excuse me, folks," James calls out.

The group turns their heads.

"What as that?" Mew asks.

The group turns to see Team Rocket in disguise.

"We've been waiting for you," Jessie says.

"You have, but who are you?" Misty questions.

And soon, Team Rocket begins their motto, again.

Jessie:

Prepare for trouble.

James:

And make it double.

Jessie: (removes disguise)

That's enough! Jessie!

James: (removes disguise)

And me! James! James! James!

Meowth:

I'm Meowth, dat's right!

"Not again!" The group of friends say, shocked.

"Seeing you thieves once a day is more than enough!" Brock says.

"Yeah," Molly says.

Jessie says, "When it comes to stealing Pokémon, it's never enough!"

"Stealing who's Pokemon?" Mew questions.

"Let's see. Yours, of course," James says.

"That's right. We're going back to join Team Rocket," Jessie says.

And Meowth says, "And you're going back to being without that Pikachu and Eevee!" playing a japanese guitar.

This has Mew and her friends confused.

"You know, you guys aren't really making much sense," Mew says.

"You're not in Team Rocket anymore?" Misty questions.

"We expired!" Team Rocket shouts.

"That's tough," Molly says.

"It was tough little girl," James says.

Then James says, "We must fight this fight of all fights to regain our membership, our dignity and our costumes!"

"You know, if it's that much trouble, then just don't rejoin," Misty says.

The three realize Misty may have a point.

"And herein lies the rub," Jessie says.

"But if you three are not part of Team Rocket anymore, isn't trying to capture Pikachu and Eevee seem pointless now?" Mew questions.

But Jessie says, "Well, Team Jet's membership is filled up and Team Helicopter's nothing but a bunch of snobs, so what is an evil genius to do?"

Besides, they've got stock options!" James says.

"So, let's go!" Jessie says, and throws her Pokeball.

And outcomes Delibird.

"That's a Delibird," Mew says.

She brings out her Pokedex and Dexter says, "Delibird, the Delivery Pokemon. An Ice and Flying Type. Delibird's most unique attack is giving presents."

Confused, Molly asks, "How can giving away presents be any sort of an attack?"

Delibird proceeds to give Jen, Borck, and Misty presents.

"Wow, a present for me?" Jen says.

"Hey, thank you," Brock says.

Thanks," Misty says.

Jessie shouts, "No, you can't just walk around giving presents away to the enemy, you bird brain!"

"Uh guys, better get rid of those orbs before they," Mew says.

But suddenly, upon Delibird's command, the orbs explode.

"Explode…" Mew replies.

Team Rocket is impressed, "Ah! Nice touch."

"Thanks, for the gift," Jen says, dumbfounded.

"Yeah. Apparently, depending on what Delibrd gives you, the presents can actually explode," Mew says.

"Wish we knew that sooner," Misty says.

"We better stop that bird," Mew says.

Then calls out, "Eevee, go!"

Eevee then leaps into action.

"Eevee, use Take Town!" Mew calls out.

Eevee charges, but Delibird leaps into the sky.

"Delibird can move just as well as Eevee!" Jessie says.

Then James calls out, "Blizzard attack!"

Delibrid launches the attack, freezing Eevee.

"Eevee's frozen!" Mew cries out.

Pikachu acts fast and uses Iron Tail to break Eevee free, but she's shivering. Mew rushes over, picks up Eevee and the group begins running away. Delibird sends more glowing orbs at our heroes, prompting them to retreat before Pikachu accidentally catches one.

"Pikachu!" Mew cries out.

She rushes and picks up Pikachu in her arms with Eevee on the other. Then the group duck for cover from Delibird continues to throw more orbs around.

"Are you okay, Pikachu?" Mew asks. Pikachu. Then turns to Eevee, "Are you alright, Eevee?"

"Well, look, James! Things just aren't as bad as they seem!" Jessie happily says.

Then James says, "See? We're still Team Rocket!"

"All those weird attacks they have, this'll be tougher than I thought," Mew says.

Suddenly, Delibrd comes up behind Pikachu and Eevee and gives Pikachu another orb, causing him to panic and gaining everyone's attention.

"What is it, Pikachu?" Mew asks.

Delibird flies away as the orb explodes. Suddenly, Pikachu and Eevee start glowing.

"Look!" Brock says.

"What's happening, Mew?" Misty asks.

"I think it's Delibird's present," Mew says.

"What do you mean?" Jen asks.

"Sometimes Delibrid's presents can actually restore energy to its opponents."

The two Pokemon stop glowing and with cheekily smiles. Pikachu even sparks.

"Alright guys," Mew says.

Pikachu and Eevee come out hiding.

"I guess you just don't know when to quit, do you?" Jessie says.

But Jamas realizes something is off, "I wouldn't be too sure, Jess.

With a spark coming from his cheeks, Pikachu gives Team Rocket a mean look. Even Eevee is giving them a mean look as she grits her teeth. That causes the three to panic.

"I TINK THEY'RE MAD!" Meowth cries out.

Both Pokemon charge up their attacks.

Mew calls out, "Pikachu, Eevee, Thunder attack!"

Pikachu and Eevee UNLEASHES his power, causing the ground to split apart as the attack makes its way to Team Rocket and sends them blasting off THUNDEROUSLY.

"You wouldn't happen to have those parachutes?" Jessie asks.

"I forgot," Meowth says.

Team Rocket cries out, "Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!"

The Talent Scout, having seen everything, makes her decision, "Well, they did lose that match. But, you know, with the personnel shortage, we have to make compromises."

Back at the human resources building.

"Master Giovanni, I have a scout from the Johto Region on the line. Jessie and James have passed," Wendy says.

Giovanni nods in reply, "Work them hard until they've paid back that loan. On second thought, just work them hard."

"Yes. I will, sir," Wendy says and ends the call.

She then growls in anger, "Jessie, you lucked out again! I'll never forget that fruit smoothie!"

Back in Johto…

"All's well that ends well. We're back in Team Rocket and everything's great," Jessie says.

"With a new Pokemon to boot. Welcome to our little family, Delibird," James says.

Team Rocket cheers, "Team Rocket!"

And then the talent scout shows up, "I'm afraid it's time for Delibird to return."

Team Rocket shrugs.

Talent Scout says, "With all our recruiting, Delibird seems to have gotten a bit tired. However, I will allow it to be your direct deposit delivery Delibird."

"Direct deposit? I don't know what you mean," Jessie questions.

"The money you owe," The scout says.

"Money?" James questions.

"You can use Delibird to pay your monthly dues and to make your loan payments," The scout says.

But Jessie says, "Back up. The ink isn't even dry on our contracts, and already you're squawking about money."

"True," James replies, "And what about our signing bonuses?"

"Yes! Our signing bonuses," Jessie happily says.

"Of course, you should receive it for reentry, but after deducting your unpaid dues and loan payments, there wasn't enough change left to make a telephone call," The scout says.

Delibird gives Team Rocket a present. At first, they're worried it'll explode, but it turns out to be something else entirely.

"What is this?" Jessie asks.

James looks at the paper, "It's some sort of receipt!"

"For what?!" Jessie asks.

James reads it, "Contract fees, entrance fees, late fees on the late fees, and a loan pre-payment of ten thousand dollars! And for, one fruit smoothie, and it's signed 'have a nice day'.

"Hey, what's with the smoothie, grandma?" Jessie shouts.

Meanwhile…

Wendy is soon seen gulping down a smoothie, "Revenge is sweet, my dear Jessie."

Back in Johto…

"I don't get it wit dat fruit smoothie business," Meowth says.

"Me, neither," James says.
