Chapter 3
The lift doors opened, and Eloise heard Abby's music. It was not too loud. But in the background. Ducky stood next to a tall goth in high platform boots, a mini skirt and pigtails.
"Oh Gibbs," Abby bounced over. "Ducky and I found something odd."
"Odd Abs?" Gibbs walked around her to stand next to Ducky.
"Eloise was correct they were moved," Ducky noticed Eloise. "OH, I almost forgot, my dear meet Miss Abigail Scioto," Ducky introduced. "Abigail met Doctor Eloise Bridgerton our new forensic anthropologist."
Abby ran at Eloise and wrapped her arms around the shorter woman. "Welcome to the family, I have read so much about you. Your last article was so good. About the connection between the…"
"Abby," Gibbs interrupted noticed that Eloise was uncomfortable in the hug from the taller girl. "The case."
Abby released Eloise from the hug.
"It nice to meet you Abby, Ducky has told me a lot about you," Eloise said. "We are going to be roomies until my office is ready," Eloise smiled. "You said that you and Uncle Duck find something about the movement of the bodies?"
"Yes, I was able to identify the type of plastic the killer used the wrap the victims up in. They were wrapped in a body bag. But the odd thing is that the bag was reused," Abby showed everyone the makeup of the plastic. "I was able to find the manufacturer and I was able to get a list of the people who brought the body bags. The bags were recalled last year."
"There was an issue with the zip," Ducky explained as Abby pulled up the recall notice on the large screen. "It would undo when you would pick up the body. We had to return all the supply we had here and requested a refund."
"So, we are looking for someone who did not return their supply?" Gibbs questioned. "Thanks Ab, thanks Ducky?" he said as he walked out of the room much to Eloise's confusion.
"My dears," Ducky said to Eloise and Abby. "Please look after her Abigail," Ducky whispered in Abby's ear.
"Will do Ducky," Abby whispered back.
"I will let you get settled in," Ducky kissed Eloise on the cheek and left the room.
"Abby, you remind me of my friend Molly in a weird way," Eloise said as she and Abby eat lunch at a nearby café. "Minus the Goth clothing. She is smart like you."
"I read about your roommate in London," Abby drunk from her drink excited.
"Sherlock?" Eloise forked her salad. Abby nodded. "Well, Sherlock is well Sherlock."
"Can you do the thing he does? You know reading people."
"Yes," Eloise said nervously. "I am not great at normal interacts or emotions it helps sometimes to read people."
"Would you do me?" Abby asked, almost pleaded, as she bounced in her seat.
"OK, but please stop me if I get anything wrong or if a go into too deep," Eloise took in a breath. "You have a brother who you are close with but do not live in the same state with. Both of your parents have sadly passed away. They were deaf. You learnt sign language to talk with them and it is second nature to you. You once had a boyfriend who you had to get a restating order on. You love animals and spend most of your free time volunteering, you build new homes for people. You are very good at wiring. You love art and music, and you enjoy finding patterns and beauty in things that some do not."
"Wow," Abby whispered.
"Did I get anything wrong? Sorry it was not a lot," Eloise acknowledged with a small shrug.
"How did you know?" Abby leaned in closer.
"You have a picture of your family on your desk. And another one of just your brother there was as a post-it note that you need to phone him back when you have time. It was a lucky guess that he lived out of state. You wear your parents' wedding rings. They could be yours but that is unlikely. I could tell that they were deaf and that you learnt sign language young because of your hand movements. You are very expressive, and you add in the signs in your hand when you talk. If you learnt it recently you would make mistakes or it would not be second nature and you do not know that you are doing it," Eloise forked a piece of celery.
"What about the ex?" Abby asked.
"Another lucky guess as you have a series of small weapons around your lab and you have lots of security and you have a couple of blocked numbers on your phone that are blocked under the name 'ex'," Eloise smiled. "I saw it come up when I passed you your mobile earlier. Now your volunteering is easy. You are a nice person, and you want to give back and money does not always fix that need to help. Your love for animals is clear by the farting hippo but you also have several bowls and dog treats in your cupboard. Your building things are hanging up in your lab I noticed them when I walked in."
"Wow," Abby giggled "You have to teach me to do that."
"Of course," Eloise agreed.
"Can you do that to anyone? What about Gibbs?"
"Some people are more difficult. Sherlock and Mycroft are very more practiced at the technique, and I mostly use it to work out what people are thinking," Eloise explained the pair continued to eat lunch.
It did not take the team together to track down and catch the murderer. He was a failed medical examiner who had been fired from the country system due to improper handling of bodies and evidence. Eloise did not care what his name was and focused on the victims. She carefully cleaned and pictured the remains, making sure that she got all of the story that the bones could give her. They were then returned to their families.
