Chapter Two-hundred and forty-six: Don't mess with Granny Opal, and other stories
The reborn trainers made it through Glimwood Tangle and into Ballonlea. It actually didn't take them too long to get there through the forest that gave off an air of being magical; they could have made it through even quicker but they took time because the sights were simply that amazing. Regardless, they made it through with time to spare. They got in just in time to find a hotel and check in with at least an hour to spare for freshening up from the road before settling down for the night, but the lot of them will be heading off to see the Ballonlea gym in the morning.
"If I got it correct," Mina said, "Opal uses fairy type Pokémon. So poison and steel is the way to go."
"We may also wanna be prepared with typings other than those in case Opal uses a partial fairy type whose secondary typing helps mitigate the poison or steel weakness," Kenny said, "I think Mawile is a fairy type that's part steel. Mitigates steel weakness and grants immunity to poison."
Dawn nodded in approval of Kenny's foresight. Dawn actually remembered Opal's team in the games from her previous life; Galarian Weezing, Togekiss, Mawile (that's a point for Kenny), and Alcremie which Gigantimaxes. Steel and poison would be fine on Togekiss and Alcremie, but neither are super effective on Mawile, and Galarian Weezing will resist poison to an extent due to being part poison itself. Luckily for Dawn, she had a few options that will let her take care of things when she gets to her battle with the leader of the Ballonlea gym.
But that was going to have to wait until morning, as the reborn trainers needed to rest their weary feet.
The following morning, the reborn trainers, after freshening up and getting breakfast, made their way to the Ballonlea gym. They half expected Rose and Oleana to meet them at their hotel, but saw no sign of either. Maybe they were going to meet them at the gym instead? Dawn figured that Rose and Oleana simply didn't know where to find them in Ballonlea, and instead opted to meet them at a place they know the reborn trainers are going to be showing up at. It was a logical thing to do if you wanted to meet up with someone and didn't know where to find them but knew where they were going to be.
As such, the reborn trainers were not surprised at all when they found Rose and Oleana standing in the lobby of the Ballonlea gym. But what DID take them by surprise was Opal giving Oleana a chewing out as Oleana rubbed the top of her head as if hit there. Additionally, a girl wearing the Ballonlea gym trainer outfit stood nearby watching the scene; the girl was fair skinned and slender, had bright vibrant blue eyes and golden yellow blonde hair in a chin length bobcut, and she was notably geeky looking, what with her large framed glasses and signs of past acne issues on her face.
"And to think a rude lout like you had risen as high as you have," Opal snarled in a scolding tone at Oleana, "You bring shame to your position with your inconsideration, young lady!"
Rose looked like he felt the situation was something that was out of his hands. "Yeah Oleana, I think Opal has a point about how you owe her granddaughter an apology for that comment you made."
As Oleana turned to the blonde fat girl and gave her an apology, the reborn trainers came walking up. "What did Oleana do this time?" Trip asked, getting everyone to turn to face him and the others.
"Ah, Dawn Berlitz and her companions," Rose said, "Yeah, Oleana and I came to the Ballonlea gym to see you ahead of time to discuss a few things before you guys can take it in turns to issue challenges to Opal here, but things kind of went off the rails when Oleana made a comment about the appearance of Opal's granddaughter that respectfully wasn't the nicest thing in the world that she could have said."
Turning to look at Oleana, Mina said, "Do you literally have no idea how to be considerate of others?"
Clapping her hands together, Dawn said, "I think we ought to get to work on hammering out the details on how Kenny, Trip, and I will have our battles with Miss Opal here."
"And that's another thing about Oleana that put a Beedril in my bonnet, deary," Opal said to Dawn, "She has it set up so that the two boys go before you. I was wanting to take your challenge first, as you are a lady and ladies ought to be allowed to go first."
"Oleana said something about saving Dawn for last against each gym leader in order to keep ratings up," Kenny replied, "I ain't cool with it either as the crew and I here usually like to do things our way, and we tend to mix it up." Opal nodded in understanding before saying that she was going to go get ready to face Kenny out on the pitch in her gym.
"My granddaughter," Opal said while pointing to the blonde geeky looking girl with her umbrella, "Who is named Opal because her parents named her after me, will come fetch you when I'm ready. I usually take a bit more time than I'd like to get out on the pitch, even if I head straight there from here. Reaching my age, even though it grants the benefit of years of wisdom, has its downsides."
Kenny nodded once in understanding. "That's fair."
Pointing her umbrella at Kenny, Granny Opal said in a warning tone, "And you best not show any rudeness to my precious Little Opal, or I'll whack you on the head with the handle of my umbrella, same as I did to Oleana."
"So that's why we saw Oleana rubbing her head when we came in," Trip remarked. After everything else was settled, Granny Opal turned to walk out to go into the pitch in her gym. And as expected of a woman in her late eighties, she moved rather slowly, although given that she didn't need a cane or any other form of assistance, it was pretty impressive she went as fast as she did. Young Opal then followed along behind her grandmother, although Young Opal very clearly had to slow down so as to not outpace her grandmother.
After a couple of minutes, Young Opal came back out to get Kenny and have him follow her out into the pitch to battle her grandmother. Kenny went along with her, as did Mina who asked if some time could be allowed so she and some of her Pokémon could change into their cheerleading outfits before Kenny's battle with Granny Opal could be started. Young Opal was amused that Kenny had his own team of cheerleaders to cheer for him during battles, and said she was certain she could convince her grandmother to permit time to allow for the change.
Rose and Oleana went up to a VIP viewing room to watch the battle, while Dawn and Trip went into the bleachers to find seats to watch. The battle between Kenny and Granny Opal was shaping up to be an interesting one indeed.
...
Kenny ended up winning his battle against Granny Opal rather handily. Kenny used Wildcat, his named Grumpig, to take out Granny Opal's Galarian Weezing. Cell, Kenny's named shiny Scizor, took out both Togekiss and Alcremie who Gigantimaxed as Cell Dynamaxed. And in between Cell beating Togekiss and Cell beating Alcremie, Kenny used Goofy, his named Houndoom, to take out Granny Opal's Mawile although Goofy being a Houndoom which is part dark resulted in him taking a fairly rough hit before he defeated Mawile. As a result of his victory, Kenny was presented with a Fairy Badge by the elderly gym leader.
After everyone got out from the pitch and audience, aside from Rose and Oleana who were talking to gym challenge fans, the reborn trainers and Granny Opal found Young Opal standing with a boy, the two of them with their arms around one another as they lovingly but gently kissed one another on the lips. "Oh Little Opal," called out Granny Opal in an amused tone, making Young Opal and the boy she was making out with jump in surprise, "Enjoying that dashing young man's company again?"
Young Opal and the boy turned to face Granny Opal, and to the surprise of the reborn trainers the boy in question was Bede, the arrogant rival from the Sword and Shield games in their previous lives. Here Bede was wearing his outfit when he becomes a gym leader, and he had no hints of the aforementioned arrogance in his expression, signifying that things turned out differently for Bede here. "Sorry, Gran," Young Opal replied, "But Bede and I were discussing plans for our date tonight, and it has been a while since his lips were on mine."
"We kissed yesterday afternoon, my dear," Bede said to Young Opal.
Turning to look at Bede, Young Opal while blushing a bit said, "Well, I really do like it when we kiss."
"You're dating this... Bede guy?" Dawn asked Young Opal while gesturing to Bede, glad that Bede's name was given so she didn't have to ask for it.
"He a right proper young man," Granny Opal said, "And I'm actually training him up to be my successor to take over running the Ballonlea gym for me. And before you express any surprise by my saying I'm planning to step down, it should be fairly obvious that I'm getting a tad old to stay in the game."
Kenny was about to speak up, but got cut off when Rose and Oleana came out. "Oh, who's the young man with your granddaughter, Opal?" Rose asked.
Pointing to Bede, Granny Opal said, "He's my apprentice Bede. He is also dating my precious Little Opal."
Looking to Rose and Oleana, Bede said, "You guys are Chairman Rose and his assistant Oleana. You two run things for the Pokémon League here in Galar, if I'm recalling things correctly." The reborn trainers were a bit surprised that Bede here had no prior association with Rose and Oleana, as in the games in their previous life he knew them from the get-go.
"You're Opal's apprentice, huh?" Oleana said, "Looking to take over her gym here in Ballonlea?"
"That's... what she's training me to do," Bede replied.
Oleana arched an eyebrow slightly before shrugging. Rose and Oleana took off, saying they'll be back later to see Trip's battle against Granny Opal. After Rose and Oleana took off, Bede and Young Opal took off as well, with Young Opal saying that she and Bede ought to have enough time for lunch before her Gran had to battle Trip. As the two young persons took off, Granny Opal let out a sincere chuckle of amusement. "She really is quite a dear, that granddaughter of mine," Granny Opal said, "I bet she'll do her best to help Bede when he takes over the gym for me."
"You care about your granddaughter, then," Mina remarked.
"Well of course I care about Little Opal," replied Granny Opal, "What grandparent wouldn't care about their grandchild?"
Shrugging, Kenny said, "Maybe we can shoot the breeze while our Pokémon are treated over at the local Pokémon Center? I'm actually kind of interested in learning more about how you came to decide upon Bede to succeed you as the gym leader here in Ballonlea."
...
A short while later, the reborn trainers and Opal were enjoying a light lunch while Kenny's Pokémon who fought and all of Granny Opal's Pokémon were being treated. As that happened, Opal talked about how she came to find Bede. "I found him telling off a pair of hooligan girls from Spikemuth who were picking on my precious Little Opal because she has a smart looking appearance," Granny Opal said, "I saw him for the first time in that moment, and he already was showing gentlemanly chivalry."
"Go on," Trip said.
"He also wore this lovely long sleeved long coat that was of a pinkish-purplish hue," Granny Opal went on, "And he had excellent battle sense. Gentlemanly chivalry, good sense of fashion, and he worked well with Pokémon! He was perfect for the role! He even already had some Pokémon that, although at the time not fairy types, were going to evolve into partial fairy types."
"Yes, the Ballonlea gym has a focus on the fairy type," Dawn remarked with a nod.
"Well, things went pretty straight forward after that," Granny Opal said, "I offered to take him under my wing, he accepted, I started training him, and the rest is history. Oh, it did surprise me to learn he came to the rescue of my precious Little Opal because she had caught his eye, but then again I calmed back down from my surprise as I gave the matter some thought. After all, my precious Little Opal is a real beauty, and she is from the same bloodline as me. It shouldn't really be a surprise that she's a bit of a seductress, I just knew she'd be catching the eyes of boys soon. She reminds me of myself from back when I was her age."
Kenny was about to say something, but got cut off when the Nurse Joy informed him and everyone else that all Pokémon have been treated. After Kenny and Granny Opal collected their Pokémon, Granny Opal said, "It's close to my daily tea time, so I'll be needing an hour at least before I can take the Trip boy's challenge. It'll also give time for my precious Little Opal to get back from occupying my apprentice's time. But at the latest I'll be ready in an hour and a half."
The reborn trainers all nodded in understanding before they took off. Mina even had the idea of tracking down Young Opal and Bede to collect them and bring them back along when they head back to the Ballonlea gym. As such, the reborn trainers decided to head out to go find Bede and Young Opal, the lot of them still surprised that Bede here apparently never had the hints of arrogance he had in the gen eight games' main story. They were actually a bit curious as to what all Bede had done in the past here, but that would be a line of inquiry for another time.
The reborn trainers eventually found Bede and Young Opal, and said that Granny Opal was having her daily tea time before she would be ready to take Trip's challenge. Young Opal got excited, said that due to what day it was that day then Granny Opal was going to be having a flavor of tea that Young Opal liked. Young Opal took Bede by the arm and dragged him back to the Ballonlea gym, leaving the reborn trainers looking on in surprised confusion as the geeky looking granddaughter of the Ballonlea gym leader was taking charge of things here.
Dawn and the others allowed sufficient time for Granny Opal to finish her tea time before they headed on back to the Ballonlea gym. When they got there, they found that Rose and Oleana were there as well, and Oleana had come up with an interesting idea that could save time; after Granny Opal had her battle with Trip, Dawn could have a gym battle against Bede, as he was being trained to succeed Granny Opal as the Ballonlea gym leader. The battle between Bede and Dawn, should it go on, would serve as an effective test to see if Bede at least had what it took.
Not being one to wanna occupy the time of others, as well as wanting to get some training in for Bede, Granny Opal accepted on the condition that Bede himself was okay with it, to which he was. As such, Trip got ready to battle Granny Opal as Dawn prepped to face off against Bede. The battle between Granny Opal and Trip quickly ended in favor of Trip, as he had his named Celesteela Space Kitta sweep Granny Opal's entire team; it used Earthquake on Mawile, Heavy Slam on Galarian Weezing and Togekiss, and Max Steelspike while Dynamaxed on Granny Opal's Gigantimaxed Alcremie.
After Trip's battle where he successfully earned the Fairy Badge, Dawn had her battle against Bede, which was given additionally billing in advertisement as a test for Granny Opal's eventual successor. Similar to her brother, Dawn used an Ultra Beast, in this case her named Naganadel Wyrmscale, to score the win, sweeping Bede's entire party. Sludge Wave took out the fairies weak to poison (the Max Move version of poison attacks was used on Gigantimaxed Alcremie), and Flamethrower was used on Bede's Mawile and Galarian Weezing. As a result, Dawn earned the Fairy Badge.
The battles that the reborn trainers had at the Ballonlea gym were truly impressive, and Rose remarked that Bede, despite his loss to Dawn, still showed the skill that he was certain had impressed Granny Opal enough to choose him as her successor. Putting that all aside, the reborn trainers had to continue their journey through the Galar region in order to earn the Galar gym badges. Speaking of, their next destination, Circhester, was the location of another gym that had two gym leaders, much the same as Stow-on-side had going.
Gordie, the rock Pokémon user, and his mom Melony, the ice Pokémon user. If the reborn trainers rushed things, mostly by flying around on their Pokémon, then they ought to be able to arrive in Circhester by nightfall. However, Kenny said that he heard talk that a Pokémon he was interested in catching in Galar can be found in the snowy upper half of the route that led into Circhester, and that he was wanting to try and track one down before the others were goiing to call it for a night. Dawn and the others decided to humor Kenny.
Dawn especially so, as there was a potential catch that she was also interested in scoring in the snowy upper half of Galar Route Eight.
...
Steamdrift Way, the snowy upper half of Galar Route Eight, stuck true to its reputation of being chillingly cold. "So tell us Kenny," Trip said after he and the others called back the dragons they rode to get there, "What is it that you aim to seek and capture here?"
"A Galarian Darumaka," Kenny explained, "I feel as if a cool little dude that's hopping around will be a perfect fit into the cringe posse." Turning to look at Dawn, Kenny asked, "You aim to catch a Galarian Darumaka as well, my main man?"
"Actually, I'm wanting to find and catch a Snom," Dawn explained, "It evolves into Frosmoth."
Trip nodded once in understanding. "Ah yes, you and your moth Pokémon."
The reborn trainers continued to make their way up, intending to reach Circhester before nightfall. Dawn and Kenny also kept an eye out for the respective Pokémon that they were both respectively interested in catching. It actually didn't take too long for them to find those Pokémon, as the reborn trainers came upon the site of a Snom and a Galarian Darumaka getting into an argument over a pile of berries that laid nearby. The two ice types were so focused on arguing over the berries that neither of them had even noticed the humans standing about a dozen feet away.
As such, both were blindsided when Dawn sent out Chi-Chi and Kenny sent out Goofy to fight them. Within short order, the two wild ice types were taken down, and Kenny caught the Galarian Darumaka while Dawn caught the Snom. Both of them were boys, so Kenny named the Darumaka he caught as Frosty, while Dawn decided to name the Snom she caught as Fullbuster. "Well that was quick," Trip remarked.
Shrugging, Kenny said, "We're almost to Circhester from the looks of things anyway." Sure enough, the reborn trainers saw that Circhester was just on the horizon, so they made a dash the rest of the way down Steamdrift Way in order to reach Circhester, where they got a room at Hotel Ionia to crash for the night. In the morning, the reborn trainers would go about figuring out how to go about taking on the Circhester gym.
The following morning, the reborn trainers were at the local Pokémon Center in Circhester, where Dawn and the boys rotated their respective parties; regardless of who between Gordie and Melony that would be faced depending on if it's Dawn, Trip, or Kenny battling, they would be ready. Ice and rock share some weaknesses, such as fighting and steel. Secondary typings may also add additional weaknesses, and those were taken into consideration as well. As such, Dawn and the boys had all of their respective Pokémon ready to win.
It was when the reborn trainers made their way over to the Circhester gym that they stopped short upon hearing a crowd of excited gym challenge fans call out to them. As such, the reborn trainers turned and saw it as a crowd of gym challenge fans came rushing over to swarm them excitedly. Mina immediately called out her Dragonite and hopped onto its back before flying straight up into the air to avoid being in the middle of a crowd swarming all around her, given that she has admitted to not being exactly good with dealing with crowds.
Dawn and the boys, however, were stuck in the middle of the crowd, and they got no relief until a whistle cut through the air like a hot knife through soft butter. "Oi, let them go already!" a male voice called out, sounding like a cool and fun loving guy, "They got an appointment over at the Circhester gym from what I've been told!" The crowd all turned to see the guy who had called out, as did Dawn and the boys, and Mina from up on her Dragonite also looked down and over to see who it was that had whistled out loudly to break things up.
As such, everyone saw it as Gordie, the gym leader of the Circhester gym who used rock types, was standing there. "You guys will be able to see them cut loose when they battle either myself or my mom, depending on which challenger gets which one between the two," Gordie said, "And you had even scared a girl straight up into the air, for cryin' out loud!" Gordie was able to make the crowds scatter, and gestured up to Mina to come back down. After Mina and her Dragonite landed, Gordie said, "I'm really sorry about that. Gym challenge fans here in Galar are excited because you guys are livening up things on the telly, given that things for the final stretch of the current World Coronation Series season have gotten rather bland."
"We heard that it's guaranteed that the finals will see Leon the Galar Champion battling Lance the Indigo Champion," Kenny said.
"Yeah and I'm calling it right now," Gordie went on, "Leon's gonna take the win and become the World Coronation Series Monarch. That dude has literally never lost a battle, so I doubt even another League's Champion can defeat him." Dawn, Kenny, and Trip all remember from the anime in their previous lives that Leon will indeed end up defeating Lance, but that's another subject for another time. "Oh, uhh," Gordie said suddenly, looking like he might have said something that could offend someone, "I bet that you could certainly give Leon a run for his money, Sinnoh Champion Dawn."
Shrugging indifferently, Dawn said, "I'm not sure if I'll ever get the chance to battle Leon, and if I ever do it won't be in the immediate future." Gently shaking her head, Dawn went on, "But that's beside the point. I believe my group and I ought to head on over to the Circhester gym."
"I can lead the way," Gordie said, "I know a quick and private route that will lower the odds we'll be swarmed by more gym challenge fans as much as possible."
"Good," Mina said, an unamused scowl on her face, "Because swarming crowds can munch my butt."
...
When Gordie led the reborn trainers over to the Circhester gym, they saw that Melony was in the gym lobby. Spotting Gordie having come in with Dawn and the others, Melony gave a delighted sounding, "Ah, you guys made it!" before she rushed over to greet the reborn trainers. Melony even threw her arms around Dawn, picked her up, and spun her around. "I've been especially looking forward to meeting you, Sinnoh Champion Dawn!" Melony said, "You're such an inspiration!"
After Gordie got his mom to calm down and set Dawn down back on her feet, the somewhat dizzy Dawn said as she tried to regain her bearings, "Thanks, I try to inspire others to be as good of trainers as they can be."
"Well there's that too, sweetie," Melony said, "But I was talking about how you had lost so much weight since your latest role in a Kenny Harris Studios movie! It gave me the drive to finally drop the extra weight my children including Gordie have been pestering me about losing! I'm down three kilograms since I saw you battle Milo on TV a short while ago!"
"Umm, actually," Trip began, "Dawn never gained or lost weight. She used a fat suit for her roles where she played a fat character."
As Melony had a look of surprise on her face, Kenny took out a mini notepad and flipped it open before writing something down on a page. "And Melony joins the list," Kenny said to himself as he wrote something, presumably Melony's name, on a sheet in the notepad.
Gesturing to the gym leaders, Dawn asked, "So Kenny is slated to battle first. That being said, who between you guys will battle him?"
"I... I need to come to terms with something..." Melony said, "Gordie can battle first."
"You're upset that what had motivated you to finally lose some weight turned out to be a lie, huh?" Gordie asked his mom.
"I thought she had been fat and lost weight for real!" Melony cried, "And now I learn it was just movie make up magic!"
"We also used a similar thing to make Dawn look like an old lady for her role in the murder mystery movie," Kenny said, "And yet no-one's made a comment on it yet."
...
Eventually, the battle between Kenny and Gordie got underway, although they did have to wait for Rose and Oleana to get there to oversee things. Kenny ended up sweeping Gordie's entire team using only Zarbon, his named Machamp; Cross Chop one-shot Barbaracle, Stone Edge one-shot Shuckle with a lucky critical hit, Zarbon used Dynamic Punch to defeat Stonjourner after blocking a physical attack from Stonjourner where it struck out with one of its long stony legs and Zarbon blocked that long and hard strike with his fanny (giving off a cry of aroused, sensual pleasure in the process), and then Zarbon was Dynamaxed to defeat Gordie's Gignatimaxed Coalossal. As a result of his impressive victory, Kenny earned the Rock Badge.
After Kenny's win against Gordie, Melony was feeling better enough to take Trip's challenge. Using his named Celesteela Space Kitta, Trip scored a win against Melony and earned the Ice Badge as a result. Space Kitta used Heavy Slam on all of Melony's Pokémon aside from her Lapras which Gigantimaxed. To answer that, Trip had Dynamaxed Space Kitta and had it use Max Overgrowth. This was the second time in a row that Trip won against a gym leader of Galar using his Ultra Beast who for some odd reason was friends with Trip's named Electivire Fourze. At least that's what Trip said on the matter when asked about it.
After both Gordie and Melony had time to rest, Dawn was able to have her challenge, and she ended up challenging Gordie. She actually swept his entire team with her named Garchomp Germany, as it had a moveset that let it strike all of Gordie's Pokémon for super effective damage; against his Gigantimaxed Coalossal, Germany used the ground type max move to take it out. As a result of winning against Gordie, Dawn earned the Rock Badge. Now Dawn and the boys each had six Galar gym badges; they just needed to all win at Spikemuth and then Hammerlock after that, and their Galar gym challenge tour would be done.
...
After Dawn was finished having Germany checked at the Circhester Pokémon Center, she met up with the other reborn trainers and saw that they were watching Gordie try to reassure his mom. "Hey hey, come on now, mom," Gordie said, "You were doing pretty damn amazing while you were running on the motivation you had when you saw how Dawn looked on TV while battling Milo."
"But now I know she was just using a special costume!" Melony cried, "How can I keep myself motivated to continue my diet and exercise if what I had used to keep myself motivated is a lie?"
Gordie suddenly looked like he had an idea. "Hey mom, you know I'm chill with the Spikemuth gym leader Piers, right? I remember him telling me a story about someone he knows who saw a lot of success in slimming down! You want I should ask him for details about that story so I can tell you?"
"Oh, we heard of Piers," Trip called out, making Gordie and Melony turn to look over and see the reborn trainers come up. "We encountered his little sister Marnie over in Stow-on-side," Trip went on, "Piers was mentioned as Marnie's older brother."
Gordie looked a bit surprised by what Trip said. "...Yeah, Marnie is Piers's little sister alright. But what I wanna know is what Marnie was doing over in Stow-on-side."
"She was there with a friend who visited an old teacher in the hospital," Mina explained, "Some super fat but sweet and motherly looking lady who was trained to-"
"-Work with autistic children," Gordie finished, "Yeah, Piers also told me about his little sister's friend Nina who is autistic. He also mentioned Nina's old teacher in Stow-on-side, but I never would have imagined that those girls would go there, at least on their own if what I'm picking up is true."
"Do not underestimate Nina Bloomingwood," Kenny said, "I had a fierce two on two battle against her, and I might very well have lost had Rose and Oleana not shown up to call the battle off and take the crew and I over to the Stow-on-side gym."
"Don't..." Melony began, looking and sounding mildly surprised, "...Don't you have legendary Pokémon, if what I saw in some of the Kenny Harris Studios movies is true and not another lie?"
"We do for real have legendary Pokémon," Kenny replied, "But I didn't use any of mine. I used my Tyranitar and Torterra, with Tyranitar getting taken out by Nina's Cinderace. Toerterra was able to defeat Barraskewda, but it did enough to Torterra so that Cinderace when it came back out could have very easliy cinched the win."
"A pure fire type took out a Tyranitar?" Gordie said, sounding surprised. Kenny nodded in confirmation, then clarified that Nina's Cinderace had soloed Godzilla. "Holy geez!" Gordie said, "Yeah, that Nina girl's got some serious strength and talent! She totally ought to try her hand at the next World Coronation Series season! Hell, I'll ask around to see if we can't get her entered into the next Galar Gym Challenge season!"
The reborn trainers were surprised to hear that someone had such praise for Nina Bloomingwood, as they got vibes Nina wasn't regarded well enough overall due to her autism. They planned to tell Nina if they ran into her again, which they felt would most likely happen when they get to Spikemuth, the next destination of their Galar gym challenge tour. Spikemuth, where Piers ruled from his gym, and looked after his little sister Marnie and, to an extent, Marnie's autistic friend Nina. Dawn and the others still had work to do in Galar, but it would be work they'll tackle with gusto.
END, CHAPTER TWO-HUNDRED AND FORTY-SIX
Author's notes;
This chapter sees the reborn trainers clear the gyms in Ballonlea and Circhester, with a few things tucked in the middle. There's Dawn and Kenny catching some cool new members for their respective rotations, and they inform Gordie about how good of a trainer Nina is. Speaking of, Nina will be making another appearance next chapter, as her hometown is going to be visited by Dawn and the others during their Galar gym challenge tour. The chapter will also delve into the backstory here for Nina as well as Marnie, going into detail about how they first met and became friends, friends to the point Marnie followed Nina into Team Scorn. Until then, take care.
