December 17: "A kidnapping" (from Domina Temporis)

References the events of day 13's story.

Though it pained me to do so, I made a point of distancing myself from Watson after his wedding. I do not think he noticed at first, so occupied was he with the new shape his life was taking as a married man, especially as his practice was flourishing by this time. It was not because I found his choice to be wedded a moral failing (though it was certainly not something I would ever consider myself) but rather because I had learned all too painfully that I could make enemies who would have no qualms about harming or kidnapping those I cared for in order to reach me. It was one thing to put Watson in what amount of danger I had allowed him to expose himself to; it was an entirely different equation with a woman involved, and someday, more than likely, children. And so I withdrew from his life as much as I could bring myself to do, though some mixture of affection and selfishness would always combine to prevent me from abandoning him entirely.
