'You absolute legend!'
Moiraine blinked. This was not the response she was expecting.
'Hello? Milkmaid and fisherwoman having a roll in the hay every full moon? Dog trainer getting railed by a high society debutante with a strap-on? That's some serious bonking you've written. Do you know how popular your books are?'
She did. Her bank account told her.
'I can see why you haven't told anyone.'
'I don't need anyone to judge me on them' said Moiraine quietly.
'I don't think it's anything to be ashamed of.'
'My family wouldn't like it' said Moiraine firmly.
'Does Lan know?'
Moiraine shook her head. Siuan was stunned.
'I wouldn't know how I could tell him. I can't think of anything more mortifying. My sex life is none of his business.'
She blushed as Siuan folded her arms and smiled wolfishly.
'Have you really not read reviews on your books? Do you know how many women would love to have the kind of sex you write on a regular basis? I know I would.'
Moiraine wouldn't have thought that was a problem. Siuan was effervescent and popular. People couldn't help but be drawn to her. Moiraine didn't think she stood a chance.
'You have a talent for weaving words. Not everyone can do that.'
'I think you do' said Moiraine boldly. 'When you invite people in, make them the centre of attention, make them feel like they are the only person that matters while you're speaking to them. Make them laugh. That's something I'll never be able to do.'
'In your books, you can. I imagine being an author is a bit of an alter ego. You can express yourself through a fantasy world that you might not in real life.'
Siuan was studying her keenly. It was uncomfortable but she didn't turn away. She had a habit of not wanting many things or people but she really liked Siuan. If she stayed, would she have a chance? Her heart lurched when Siuan opened the door and smiled at her. She was doing the flirting for both of them and Moiraine wanted to take the lifeline with both hands.
'Which characters do you resonate with?'
'All of them, in a way' replied Moiraine cautiously. She saw Siuan's eyes gleam. She could imagine what she was thinking. Moiraine shivered at the thought of getting closer and slipping on an alter ego to satisfy her. Because she did. She wanted to impress Siuan and her books had done just that. But could she live up to the reputation?
