She saw it for the first time, but it wasn't anything like she had expected. Based on his expectations of her, she'd been expecting the same, but no. On his left upper bicep was a tattoo that spelt out ASCE with the S crossed out. She was getting her tattoo on her right shoulder blade, and keeping it small. With any bit of luck when she got back home nobody would know about it, if it translated onto her true body.
As the tattooing began she looked at the young Pirate Captain and asked him, "so, why don't you have this tattoo?"
Ace seemed to hesitate before he revealed, "The A, is for my name. The second letter down is for Sabo—my brother. He died when we were kids. Then there's C, I have another brother, Luffy. He was such a sensitive kid always crying over everything so I started calling him 'Crybaby'. The E—It's the last letter of Rouge, which is my late mother. She sacrificed herself for me. I never really had a chance to know her. She died the same day I was born—I've always been grateful to her."
"I see," Rina acknowledged, a little unsteady by the depth of the meaning. At first he just seemed like a carefree, reckless, impulsive man but this guy had some deep connections he obviously valued greatly. If she were to be truthful with herself he was beginning to remind her of someone that she had left without knowing the end result of the fight that had occurred. Closing her eyes, she rested her head on her arms that were crossed in front of her. Ace watched her as she began to softly snore. His eyes widened for a moment but he then smiled and stifled a laugh. If getting a tattoo could put her to sleep, this girl wasn't playing when she said she could handle herself. The tattooist kept at the tattoo, and finished within an hour. After it was properly moistened with a cream, and had the antibiotic salve Rina had previously made on the fresh tattoo, the artist covered it with some cellophane
A brown haired boy gazed absent mindedly by a lake. He wore a white silk kimono, and in his hand was a stick with what looked like a string twirled around and tied to the opposite end he was holding. He sat with his chin resting in the palm of his free hand, his brown eyes void as if he wasn't really there.
Then he blinked, seemingly coming to life and perking up as his free hand joined the other one. He tugged on the stick a few times before a salmon was pulled from the water. He smiled at the sight and then turned as he announced, "got your lunch, Rina."
Rina's eyes shot open, beads of cold sweat on her forehead. She quickly came to realize that she wasn't alone in the room. Ace, who had previously been carving something with a knife looked over to her and his expression softened when he saw her expression.
"It was a bad dream," he offered.
Rina shook her head from side to side as she laid back down and admitted, "no. It was a good memory, just—painful."
At this point, Ace knew better than to probe. If she wanted to tell him, she would in her own time. At least that was the impression he'd gotten from her during his previous attempts to get to know her better.
She laid back staring up at the wooden ceiling of the cabin until the blue haired man she'd come to know as Deuce appeared at the doorway and stated, "Banshee's calling us to dinner."
Rina raised her hands up, cupping her face and running her hands over it. She wondered to herself, 'dinner? How long was I out?'
Ace nodded a little and gestured for Deuce to leave. The blue haired man wordlessly complied leaving the two of them alone. Rina looked over to Ace as she asked him, "how long was I out?"
The dark haired teenager shrugged as he placed the wood carving of a tiger on her bedside table and replied, "I dunno. A few hours, I guess."
Ace paled a little as he realized, "I never told Banshee you don't like meat."
At this the young woman groaned loudly into her hands. Ace observed her, wondering if the idea of eating meat was that gross to her. She soon heaved a heavy sigh as she resolved, "It's fine. Just let me use the kitchen and I'll cook for myself."
His shoulders sagged with guilt as he realized, "You really don't like meat huh?"
"More like my body doesn't. I get physically sick if I eat it," Rina revealed. He began to sweat at the idea of Banshee having to cook fish. Most of the crew didn't know, but he did. To his astonishment Rina stood up and straightened her hair then looked back to him with a coy smirk as she revealed, "after all, I can't expect a mermaid to cook fish for anyone."
Ace blinked repeatedly and asked, "how'd you know?"
"Her scent," was the nonchalant reply as Rina left the cabin. Ace stood dumb struck for a moment while wondering how Rina could identify Banshee as a mermaid, it had been pure accident that he'd uncovered the woman's secret. However Rina said she could tell by the other woman's scent. What scent? As far as he could tell Banshee smelled like a normal woman to him. Granted the portly woman with long wavy hair and dark makeup was more like a motherly figure or maybe an older sister than anything else to the rest of the crew.
He rubbed the back of his neck and admitted, "I actually asked her to make one of my favourites, and a lot of it… you're welcome to share it with me."
Rina looked to him with an eyebrow arched as she inquired, "what exactly is it?"
"Ghost pepper spaghetti aglio," Ace revealed. She blinked repeatedly. Ghost pepper noodles with an oil based sauce? That would definitely be spicy noodles. She had told him strawberries and spicy noodles if she'd had a bad day. After a moment she gained a playful smirk. She crossed her hands over her chest, her grey eyes held the gaze of his black eyes. She giggled while she teased, "I'm gonna eat you under the table."
He gained a similar grin at the challenge. His eyes gained a sparkle while accepting her challenge, "you're on!"
