Hello everyone I hope you all have been well. I have been busy with work and college but I am still finding my time get these chapters out when I can. I am happy so many are enjoying my story, I know it is my first real story I have ever posted and it is a bit rough around the edges but seeing people happy or giving me songs to use really makes me feel good to be a part of the RWBY community.
I will say some of the messages I have been getting both in reviews and privately have been very interesting to say the least. Some messages I will be blunt have been rather aggressive and other ones have just blown me away with some of their ideas and I respect and am open to all of them. However, perhaps I didn't state this very well but this is not an OP Jaune story.
I keep getting the same messages in my PM's about why Jaune would do this instead of that and how he would react differently. In truth the point of stories like this is just another "What if?" in the giant web of FanFiction.
I am saying this just the last time both as a standing statement and as someone who is tired of seeing the messages in my inbox on how this story should have gone when I haven't even finished it or flushed out other things yet.
This story technically takes place before the Vytal festival in RWBY's world of events. By this point Jaune would have only killed a few Grimm and trained with his team and Pyrrha enough to be considered somewhat descent. He still, lied about getting into Beacon so he never had background training and hasn't been in enough intense situations by himself to know how to fair well solo.
Even if the enemy is a thug, Grimm, or even a huntsman Jaune is still not a fully trained individual although he is getting better from his relationships and his use of musical experience. What this means is if Jaune is not only by himself, but without his gear, without his team, and without a clear understanding of what he is facing then yes it is possible for him to become overwhelmed. Jaune is a strategist not a tank and I show that in this story.
And finally, Jaune's training all takes place with one on one fights as per normal sparring. He would be more comfortable with one person to fight as well as having trained with the others seen a fair amount of fighting styles which allow him to analyze and try to understand a path to victory. He uses music to move his body in ways he understands but the number one way to take down a thoughtful fighter is to overwhelm them with either number or outside factors.
I am saying all of this to just clear the air and ensure everyone is on the same page. These are not excuses these are reasons for my thought process and why the story is the way it is. I am doing this again to basically answer the same question I keep getting over and over again. If these reasons aren't good enough then again I'm sorry but that's my thought process and I'm staying with it.
Thanks to everyone who has been reading the story and I look forward to everyone's reactions in the later chapters.
Stay Wild- Bardic
