OK...Sorry it's been a while, just been really chaotic over the Holiday season, anyway here I'm bringing back something I used in a A Rogue and His Mutant the characters known in the Mirage Comics as 'The Pantheon' but here I'm turning them into the 'Forest Guardians' both to be a bit more specific about where they are and also to make them simply 'Guardian Spirits' rather than full on gods, and here theywill actually serve a purpose! In the first story they really ended up not amounting to much other than giving advice to the Mutant OC, here their intervention will actually be needed.
Batman narrowed his eyes at Borden Willis
"OK..." Batman said "...You're going to tell me everything about what you did."
"Yes, yes of course." Borden said meekly "But first can we go back inside to talk? It's cold and damp out here!"
The group went back into the cabin where Jervis and Edward had finished eating their breakfasts while listening to the not-at-all quiet conversation taking place just outside the front door. Meanwhile in the bedroom, Enna had been listening at the door, she hadn't heard the conversation that had taken place outside, but she did here what happened right before where Jonathan begged Batman for mercy and admitted he really did want to adopt her! Enna clasped her hand to her muzzle and despite how scary the situation was felt like she could cry tears of joy!
As the group came back into the cabin, Enna peeked at them from behind the bedroom door.
"OK..." Leo said "...So what exactly is up with these Runes? You said an old friend gave them to you?"
Borden sighed "Once again...The truth is more complicated then I initally let on...I'll tell you what I know...You might want to take a seat it's a long story..."
They noticed Enna's head poking of the bedroom.
"Enna..." Jonathan said with a bit of a smile "...You seem awake now, would you care to join us? Do you feel you can eat something?"
Enna gulped "Now that you mention it..." She said as she gingerly stepped out of the bedroom, still naked as they hadn't brought any clothes for her "...I am a little hungry..."
Mikey went back to the kitchenette to whip up some more scrambled eggs and bacon, while Enna went over to one of the sofa's around the TV and sat next to Jonathan, obviously Jonathan felt she shouldn't have to be naked in front of a bunch of males even if she didn't have any sense of body modesty so he took a blanket that had been covering Edward during the night and wrapped it around the Mutant Otter so she could have something covering her, Edward, with the pillow still tied to his rear, was for once grateful he wasn't the center of attention, really didn't want Batman to focus on him with this embarrassing injury, he went to the sofa on the opposite side of the room that had been serving as his bed and quietly lay down on his front, hoping he would suffer any pains from lying down immediately after eating, Jervis went to the armcahir that had been his bed for the night, the Turtles and Batman were content to stand as Mikey came and handed Enna a plate of eggs and bacon which she gratefully ate while Borden began to tell his story.
"What my old friend told me about those Runes..." Borden said "...Is that there was a thoery going around at the time, that those Runes, had carved into them, the symbols of a group of now forgotten spirits that people of ancient times once worshipped as gods...They were each guardians of of a different species of the forest and thus the name we had for them at the time was The Forest Guardians..."
"But surely such things are just ancient pagan myth and superstitions..." Edward said "...What good are long dead gods to our problems?"
Batman turned to his foe lying injured on the sofa "Don't be to sure Riddler..." He said "...I've encountered certain aspects of the Supernatural that give me reason to believe there is some potential in Mr. Willis story."
"I know for a fact that the symbols on the runes seem to be the Viking words for certain animals, including cats, wolves and...Bears...Now what I'm hoping is my friend in Upstate New York can find a way to contact the Forest Guardians so specifically the Bear Gaurdian can...Pacify the Terror Bears."
"Pacify them?!" Edward exclaimed
"As dangerous as they are..." Borden said "...The fact remains that they are still as much children as my own Mutants, children who have been badly hurt! Perhaps someone strong enough can soothe them and give them the love they need to finally heal..."
That made the three rogues very quiet and reflective, it almost felt like he was talking about them instead!
So we have the potential solution to the Terror Bears but there is still the problem of the human scientists...
