Jayne was sitting at the table, waiting for his 3rd breakfast of the day. He hated how he always felt so Hungry. Although he had to say, he couldn't argue with the results.
Jayne was never one for schooling... but now he knew everything he needed. Learning it all instantly, with the ease of opening a book, and looking at a single page... not even having to read it.
Shortly after making the crew "Goblin Allies". The Goblins let them go into their library, and gave them access to all their "Knowledge Transference Tomes". First directing them, to the books on Goblin magic.
The Goblin Magic Blesser, physically graphed a third chromosome chain onto the "muggles" DNA. Granting unique magical abilities, based on what powers the crew wanted. Along with all the traditional Goblin magics.
This new chain acted as a type of catalist, balancing all the other abilities, and keeping them in check with one another. Even passing these traits down, genetically. So in a sense, "Warlocks" really were a subspecies of human.
The new chromosome chain, directly tied their Physical Might, to their magic. Increasing their physical durability, as well as super strength, and enhanced agility and speed. They could dodge bullets, but there thick skin makes it so they don't need to.
Their magicks were directly multiplied by their physical strength. With their muscles, in turn, becoming magically enhanced. Making them denser, and lighter, but not bulky. With seemingly no limit to how physically powerful they could become. Magic had fused into their bodies.
They have longevity, able to stay in their prime for a thousand years. And even when their body starts deteriorating, they can't die of old age. Nor can they suffer from mental degrading.
Unknown to the crew of Serenity, or anyone Outside the Goblins, the older Squibs, turned Warlocks, had 1000 to 2,000 years worth of memories inside them. With the oldest Warlocks actually able to remember moving into the planet.
However, this also meant Warlocks did not have a magical core. Which is part of why wand based casting was so difficult, although still possible. There whole body acted as their own magical focus.
Meaning, the crew had their magic taking a toll on their bodies. To counteract that required the consumption of 10s of thousands of calories, just to function regularly,
Jayne knew, from the Tomes, how to use his new powers. He even had the freaking muscle memory, somehow. It really was something.
He also knew how to create, Goblin level, enchantments. Or even master level potions. Where wizards could wave their wand, and permanently cast the type of spells done to the ship, Goblins needed to forge the enchantments, through runes and crystals... which Jayne could now do.
Although, so could everyone else... including Inara.
Even that Harry kid, who had been given a dose to keep up the Goblin cover story for why Dudley was a warlock. The lie went, that the Evan's line had a dormant chromosome chain, that was recently activated. So they were Warlock "Squibs", that bred with wizard squibs, and now had both a magical core, and third chain...
They kinda had to do all that, as giving the fat kid Goblin magic, woke up his dormant core. So they gave Harry the potion, to, and access to up to third year Goblin spell books.
Jayne had to admit. With his knew found powers, talents for magical crafts, and giant vault filled with gold... he was wondering if he didn't want to follow Inara's lead, and make some kind of new life for himself, elsewhere on this moon... how long would it be before everyone left Mal... or would they all decide to stay.
"Covens" were apparently closer then family. With even the structure of their hierarchy, using familial titles.
Such as most of the members being refered to as "Brother" or "Sister". While the Combatants were called "Aunt" or "Uncle". Then the Head was called "Father", with the former head called "Grandfather".
It should be obvious who the "Father" was, but it was decided Book would be the "Grandfather"... something everyone insisted on, as an affectionate joke. Given Book often said he "never married" when anyone called him that. Meaning he didn't have the grandchildren, needed to be a "Grandpa". So the crew of Serenity, jumped at the chance to make him one.
Then Simon, Kaylee, and Wash, were the "Brothers and Sisters". While Jayne, Zoey, and River were the "Uncles and Aunts".
Simon had thrown a right fit, when River revealed she wanted to be a combatant.
• Flashback .
Simon was indeed furious, when Mal calmly informed him of River's new role. "It was her suggestion. She's a trained Assassin, and more in control of her faculties, nowadays. She wants to contribute."
"Then have her work with Kaylee!" Simon insisted.
Mal sighed, "It's her choice. Ain't neither of us have the right to control her life."
"Maybe YOU don't!" did the boy really just say that?
"Simon," Book got the young Doctor's attention. "She's legally an adult, by these people's standards. None of us have any rights over her, anymore. She's here because she wants to be. And she wants to make, what the Alliance did to her, worth it. Even if it's in a small way, like helping protect the family she's built around her."
Simon groaned, he still didn't like it... but Book had kinda set himself up as the conscience of the group.
