Training Montage

Strained groans echoed around the abandoned beach-turned-junkyard, the odd witty remark being heard in response to every one of these pained cries as if mocking them. "This refrigerator is actually quite the comfy seat!" A gigantic blonde laughed, the man was currently sitting atop a large, decrepit fridge which was being slowly dragged by a much smaller and scrawnier greenette, rope wrapped around each of his shoulders as if he was a horse pulling a carriage, "I think I could go for a nap!".

Izuku collapsed into the sand in defeat, completely exhausted, "I- I need a minute All Might!" He panted as his skinny body lay on the white sand, the only clean part of the beach.

Instead of letting him break in peace, the giant pulled out his mobile phone and snapped pictures for some unknown reason, "My goodness! Look at you! How pathetic!" He laughed getting a pained scowl from the boy.

"Why do I even need to do this, All Might?" Izuku asked, rubbing his sore arms as he looked around the 'beach'. The place was a glorified dump, avoided by all, even the locals, and known as Musutafu's biggest eyes soar, the beach was completely covered with garbage of all shapes and sizes, from plastic bottles to full-blown cars!

"This is Takoba Municipal Beach Park, and there was a time when it was a beautiful place," All Might began looking over the wreak of a beach, "But due to currents, lots of trash dumped into the ocean ended up finding itself onto this beach. As the garbage built up, people began to fly-tip their junk here, making it into the eyesore it is now!".

Izuku nodded his head, his mother had told him stories about when this beach wasn't disgusting, about his grandma would take her every weekend. "Many Heroes forget that it isn't all about just fighting the villains, but also public service to help the community." The greenette understood this part clearly as day, and agreed with his mentor, "So you will be cleaning it as your training for One for All!".

The boy's jaw hung open as he stared at the mountains of trash piled up around him, "B-But you s-said I was w-worthy!" Izuku stammered, stumbling back on his feeble legs.

"In spirit you are, but if I gave One for All to a weak body, your limbs would explode as soon as you activated the quirk!" Izuku shuddered at the thought of his precious body being atomized, convincing him to put his all into this training.

Seeing Izuku's steeled nerves, All Might let out a small chuckle as he leapt off of the refrigerator, placing his hand on top of the machine, "Be ready, kid, this will be hellish". "We have ten months until the UA Entrance Exams," The blonde began to apply pressure to the top of the fridge, causing it to creak slightly, "And with that limited time, I will mould you into the perfect vessel for One for All," A loud metallic slam echoed around the beach as All Might crushed the fridge like it was a can of Coke, "Shall we begin?".

Izuku gasped for breath as he heaved the final tyre over to All Might's pick-up truck, or the Might-mobile, as he named it, collapsing to the floor as soon as he tossed the rubber doughnut into the car. "Good job, young Midoriya," All Might, now in his small form, said, tossing the boy a bottle of water, "Since we have a free hour for now, I would like you to explain your quirk to me.".

"W-Well it's nothing s-special." The greenette bashfully said, scratching the back of his head, "It's called Blink, and my body generates a massive amount of kinetic energy before forcing it into one of my feet, launching me forward at high speeds.".

All Might raised his eyes at this, writing it all down, "What makes you think that's weak? I would call it quite powerful!" He chuckled, making Izuku's head sink slightly.

"Yeah, but I can only go about three meters per Blink, and I can only do it three times before I overheat, and even after that, if I do it a fourth time I would pass out." He explained, bad memories surfacing at the thought, "And I haven't managed to improve my quirk since it awakened.".

A low hum came from All Might as he surveyed his notes, a curious look crossing his face, "And how did you train it?" He asked, his blue eyes having some idea.

"I would usually try to generate as much Kinetic Energy as possible, but it never worked." The greenette pouted, slowly clawing himself up to his feet.

"And you can feel this Kinetic Energy, correct?" Izuku nodded with a confused expression, not fully understanding what All Might was talking about, "I think I know a way to improve your quirk!" The blonde smiled. "You have been focusing too much on generating Energy, and not controlling the already generated Energy!" Izuku tilted his head at the man, completely lost on what he was saying.

"Okay, you know that with every energy transfer, there is useful energy and wasted energy, in a lightbulb, the useful energy is light and the wasted energy is heat." He explained, getting a nod from the greenette, who had learnt that in physics a couple of years ago. "Well, think of your quirk like that, your body generates energy somehow, then converts that energy into kinetic energy," All Might said, completely deconstructing Izuku's quirk before his very eyes, something he usually did to others, "However, some of that energy transforms into waste energy, heat, so maybe you should instead try to control what kind of energy you create more precisely!".

The greenette's eyes widened at this revelation, it wasn't his Quirk that was weak, it was his control of it, he hadn't seen any improvements in his physical ability because he could only control a burst up to three meters. He needed to test this out, immediately, and All Might seemed to understand this desire, already having a tape measure and heading down towards the beach.

Izuku didn't bother asking where he had gotten them from, the greenette was excited to just test out the man's hypothesis. After reaching the sand, All Might marked the starting line for Izuku, who got into a runner stance to prepare for his Blink. Finally, Izuku began to gather energy in his core, closing his eyes and focusing his entire mind on Kinetic Energy production, feeling the power build up within himself.

Eventually, the boy had reached the maximum amount of energy he could hold, forcing it down into his right foot, which was missing a shoe as Izuku had the foresight to remove it. The familiar feeling of Blinking the boy had grown to know spread across his entire body as he fired himself like a human torpedo. He then felt this feeling immediately disappear right before his face was lodged into the sand, the sound of All Might lengthening the tape measure being the only stimulation to his senses.

"Three point seven meters!" The blonde cheered victoriously, excitedly making Izuku Blink up to him, spooking the skeletal man slightly. The greenette awed at the little number on the apparatus as he ran back to the starting line, eager to go again, which All Might completely complied with, retracting the tape measure for Izuku's next attempt.

The two spent approximately five more minutes on their little project before Izuku promptly passed out from quirk exhaustion, a small fact they had overlooked as they did their frivolous testing. For the hour that Izuku was unconscious, All Might spent rewriting the boy's diet plan to contain more high-energy foods as well as protein, allowing him to build energy stores along with more muscle.

Two Months into Training

As Izuku's body had started to grow from his intense training routine, the greenette had begun to notice small changes in his body that began to develop independently from his expected growth. Firstly, Izuku had an astoundingly low body fat percentage, literally zero per cent, but he somehow managed to completely avoid health defects, such as heart, kidney and other organs failing.

He also seemed to be somewhat impact-resistant, being able to handle falls from up to four meters without any problem. He had discovered this when training by himself he decided he wanted the trash from atop one of the larger trash piles, however, when he finally managed to dislodge the broken bike from the salvage, the entire structure had collapsed.

Izuku cringed at the memory as he continued with his push-ups, "Ninety-nine... One Hundred!" He finally grunted out, collapsing onto the floor, giving his poor arms the rest they deserved. Since his first workout session, All Might had slowly trusted Izuku to do his training alone, still visiting at least once a day to check in on the boy to see how he was doing, and today was one of those days.

"Now I just need to practice with Blink," Izuku mumbled to himself as he walked over to the makeshift race course he and All Might had created. It wasn't anything special, just a few pieces of wood jabbed into the sand to mark five, ten, and even fifteen meters. Izuku got into his runner stance, which he honed through copious online tutorials, charging up his energy, and doing his ritual of focusing on upping his efficiency.

Over the last couple of months, the greenette had managed to double his original three-meter limit, being able to reach four meters without even having to focus anymore. Once again Izuku pulled in as much energy as he physically could, managing to surpass what he originally could before reaching his limit, however, that wasn't his goal today.

The boy fired off the starting line in a blur, keeping his eyes open as he had taught himself to do over the previous two months, Izuku made sure to keep in mind his timing as he moved, trying to calculate when he would stop moving. Eventually, the boy felt himself slowing down, gradually losing altitude, so he attempted to touch down, slowly placing his feet on the floor.

Unfortunately, he mistimed his landing, having too much momentum when his feet touched the floor, digging them into the ground and causing him to slingshot into the floor with more power than usual. Izuku bounced forward for a few meters before he rolled to a stop, standing up and brushing himself off before he went to retry his trial, thanks to his impact resistance.

Izuku hypothesised that his quirk used his body fat stores to fuel his energy production, so his dietary increase in high-calorie food was what had grown his stamina for Blinks, being able to successfully let off about ten before having to stop for the day. This was probably also aided by his overall increase in physical fitness levels which had done him absolute wonders when trying to master his quirk.

Socially, Izuku's life hadn't changed very much, the teachers still disliked him, his peers still laughed at him, and Bakugo was still a Dick. For the first few weeks after rescuing his sister, his parents had treated him like a saint, however, the novelty quickly wore off and everything went back to normal, and at school, people praised Izumi for being so brave, just like the paramedics had.

Overall, Izuku's involvement in the girl's rescue had been totally wiped from history, if it wasn't for a video circulating online, no one would have thought he had been there. The only positive he had drawn from the situation was that Izumi seemed to stop interacting with him, which he wasn't complaining about in the slightest. He had become somewhat bitter about her after she left him to die in the villain attack, even if he had told her to run, so he just decided to keep away from her group entirely, which was hard since she was popular across the entire school.

However, despite his still subpar treatment at school, Izuku was still looking forward to the future, not only would he be receiving One for All in eight months, which would boost his strength amazingly, but All Might had also promised to help him develop a fighting style once he reached ten meters with Blink and how to stay standing. So Izuku returned to his training after eating, trying to complete this goal as soon as possible, and landing on his face again.

Five Months into Training

"Come at me, Young Midoriya!" All Might's booming voice grinned as he stood opposite Izuku, who was currently in a janky fighting stance. The greenette charged up Blink, firing off towards the man, appearing just next to him with a wobbly landing, stumbling slightly, and aiming a punch at his stomach. Suddenly the large shadow of All Might's fist loomed over the boy's body, barely giving him any time to Blink five meters back, tumbling onto the floor.

Izuku laid on his back as he processed his situation, but not for long as All Might suddenly appeared in front of him, a punch aimed at his small frame. The greenette had observed the Hero's battles enough to know that he poured all of his power into his fist when delivering a punch, so Izuku deduced the best thing to do would be to put him off balance.

Izuku fired a five-meter Blink off at the man's leg, sweeping it off the ground and making his punch drift to the left slightly, hitting next to the greenette. As All Might fell, Izuku swiftly jumped up and delivered a sloppy left hook to the blonde's jaw, who seemed totally unaffected. Izuku didn't get a chance to do anything else before All Might had a hand wrapped around his leg, slamming into the floor, hard.

"Oof!" Izuku grunted as he impacted the floor, already feeling the bruise forming on his right side, "Could you be a bit more gentle next time?" The greenette slowly stood back up, clutching his very dislocated shoulder. He bit down on his sleeve as he cracked his shoulder back into place, hissing in pain as he rolled his shoulder, another perk of his quirk allowed him to heal from impact-related injuries much faster than usual, which wasn't fun to learn.

"Nope, you won't learn otherwise!" All Might chuckled in his small form, wiping a bit of blood from his mouth. The two had been doing combat training for only a week, however, All Might had seen Izuku improve rapidly in this time, his form looking even better than it had just the previous day, "I suggest you look into practising a few types of kicks while I'm not here, your legs are your greatest weapon.".

Izuku nodded in agreement, giving his legs a thoughtful look before rapidly scribbling down his thoughts into a notebook that appeared from presumably thin air. Although he really wanted to, All Might had just decided that it was worth asking where it had come from, just accepting that it was a fundamental law of the universe.

"I believe that learning how to generate energy quickly is key to your combat goals, as it would allow you to deliver many blows in a shorter time." Once again, Izuku madly scribbled down his idol's words like it was a prophecy. "Well then!" The blonde spoke, poofing into his Hero form, towering over the boy in an instant, "We still have half an hour for combat training!".

Izuku stepped back to his starting position trying to formulate a plan in his mind, 'Maybe I should do a jump at him, that would probably catch him off guard since I haven't done it before!'. As soon as All Might gave the signal, Izuku fired off with a thirteen-meter jump, giving him a short while to think of his next move, when suddenly an idea popped into his head.

While was mid-air, Izuku twisted his left foot to face All Might's chest, beginning to charge up another Blink before he landed, this time a ten-meter one. The greenette held the power inside his body for as long as possible, releasing it the instant he felt his foot collided with the colossal man, the massive amount of energy bolting down his leg.

The shockwave launched Izuku back the charged amount while also pushing All Might back about a meter, results! The huge amount of air pressure also gave the greenette cover in the form of a mini sandstorm, which he used to cool down. While it wasn't a permanent fix by any means, it would work for now if he needed to make a quick attack.

"Nice move, Young Midoriya, but you should also stay aware of your surroundings!" He heard the blonde brute's overly jovial voice say from behind him, barely getting a moment to cover his head before he was smashed across the beach.

Seven Months into Training

Izuku heaved as he carried the refrigerator across the beach, gasping for breath as he walked on wobbly legs, it was better than he had done seven months prior, but it was painful nonetheless. The greenette had mostly cleared out the smaller pieces of trash by month six of his training, leaving him the last three months to drag the remaining giant pieces of trash off the beach.

The boy released a roar of victory as he slammed the massive machine onto the ground at the dropoff point, getting a few weird looks from a pair of nearby joggers running past him. Since there was far less trash on the beach than before, people had actually begun to come around the area again, walking dogs, going for a run, or simply enjoying the reemerging view.

However no one dared to go onto the wasteland that was the beach, that was Izuku's jurisdiction only, and the pained cries emanating from there almost daily possibly didn't help. Anyway, the boy's physique had developed nicely over the past few months, going from relatively skinny to relatively shredded in no time, which was assisted by Izuku's inhumanly low body fat levels.

Since his first training session, Izuku had begun trying to memorize the amount of Kinetic Energy needed to go certain distances, so far managing to memorize the power needed to travel; five, ten, fifteen, twenty, and almost twenty-five meters. The amount of energy needed for a twenty-five-meter Blink was too high for Izuku to control for now, but he wouldn't stop trying.

With a higher level of control over his Kinetic Energy, Izuku was now able to manipulate the trajectory of energy before it left his body, not to the extent that he could channel it through his arms, but enough to open new doors that were previously closed. This is because he could change the direction of the energy just before it left his body, meaning he now had omnidirectional blasts.

The combat manoeuvres he could pull off were now more than just a basic push from the base of his foot, he could fire off a Blink from the back of his foot to create a kinetically charged spin kick. Or he could do a normal kick, but delay the release of energy, creating a twin impact of sorts, or he could let off sick high-speed flips mid-air to gain momentum, but not enough to seriously harm someone, the new possibilities were almost limitless.

His maximum number of Binks per day had also grown, reaching twenty-five in no time, which allowed him to actually regenerate energy if he took a snack break, effectively giving him limitless Blinks. Izuku wasn't dumb, however, and understood that he would easily use all of this up in a day of Hero patrol, so he upped the intensity of his exercises, turning jogs into sprints, and increasing the number of reps he did.

Although his progress at the beach had been great, his school life stayed mostly the same, if not gotten worse, as Katsuki had begun bullying the boy for his lack of fat and saying he had 'stage muscles' to make up for his weak quirk. Izuku mostly just tried to ignore these comments, quickly walking away from the situation as he had learnt to do from years of many similar instances.

Ten Months into Training

It was finally the day of the UA Entrance Exams, and Toshinori was pulling into the beach as he usually did on a morning, ready to collect the surely large pile of trash that the boy would have for him. As he stepped out of his truck, the blonde was truly flabbergasted by the massive mountain of junk lying on the border of the beach, the rising sun barely illuminating its high peak.

All Might looked upon the beach, his eyes widening as he gazed at the pristine sands, not a speck of litter remaining on the coast, even in the areas that he hadn't marked out for the boy. The frail man couldn't help but buff up with pride at the sight.

Suddenly the sound of cries echoed from the top of the mountain, causing the giant's head to snap to the source, and there stood Izuku atop the pile. The sun barely covered him as he released his roar of victory, his well-toned form glistening with sweat from the impossible task he had just completed. The boy collapsed, dropping from the tower like a rock into a lake, but All Might was there to catch him.

"I did it, All Might..." Izuku weakly spoke, his body riddled with exhaustion as he lay limp in the giant's arms.

"You have, my boy. And for this great accomplishment, you deserve a reward!" His jovial voice spoke, steadily placing the boy onto his feet as he grabbed something from his back pocket, a phone. The blonde unlocked the device and rapidly scrolled down on his screen until he reached his desired target, a picture of a frail Izuku on the floor, crying, "This was you ten months ago! A small and weak boy, but now look at you!".

All Might waved his arm towards Izuku, signifying his now Greek god-like physique, looking as if he had been carved from marble and then given life, "You have grown into a strong man, strong enough to hold One for All!". Plucking a strand of hair from his golden mane, All Might extended a hand, "You have earned this, Izuku Midoriya!".

Tears freely flowed from Izuku's eyes as he wore a smile on his face, these last ten months had been complete hell on earth. Waking up at four every day working out for over seven hours a day and then going to bed completely exhausted just to repeat it the next day had been his routine for so long, but now it was finally over, his dreams of Heroism were finally possible, "Eat this!"

"Eh?"

That's all for this chapter, I hope you enjoyed it! Sorry if it was a lot of repetition, but there isn't much you can really do with a training montage, since it is just that, but I can't just skip it either. The next chapter will be the Entrance Exam which will let you see Izuku in action with his basic Blink fighting style. In this AU Izuku will be a very different type of Hero from the original series, but I won't divulge too much since that's for future chapters. I hope to see you next time, goodbye!
