Chapter 1: The Rat and the Cat:
Shu's POV:
My name is Shu and I'm a rat. I was with my best friend, Mao. He's a cat. After all, rats and cats are great friends.
"I feel like this is going to be a great day," I said.
"It certainly seems that way," says Mao.
Then there was an announcement. "Attention, the Jade Emperor has declared a great race! Winner shall be in our zodiac and have a year named after them!"
"Did you hear that, Mao," I asked.
"A race," asks Mao, "that sounds like fun!"
"Mao, we should enter," I said.
"But... what if we're not fast enough," asks Mao.
"Don't worry, Mao," I said, "we got this!"
"Well... alright, but maybe we should practice," says Mao.
"Yeah, okay," I said.

We then started exercising. We were training hard and took some breaks.
"You know, Mao," I said, "if this doesn't work, I have another option..."
"Shu, you're not suggesting we cheat, are you," asks Mao.
I paused. "Maybe," I said, "let's get back to training!"

We then ran up a mountain, but I was getting exhausted. I'm more of a slacker. The only reason I want to race is to have my name in the zodiac. I could hit big time. I just wish Mao was more confident.

I was sleeping, but then Mao woke me up. "We have to keep training," says Mao, "drink up, it's full of protein!"
"A glass of disgusting eggs," I said, "just like Mother used to make!" I then started drinking it. Mao was about to puke, and he ran. "Mother got that way too."

We were then ready to get to the race.
