The twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac were selected through a race. This race is meant to create a time measurement for the people. There could only be twelve winners and in order to win, the animals had to cross a rapid current river and reach the finish line on the shore.

5. Chapter 5 - Hold Your Horses

Chapter 5: Hold Your Horses:

Ma's POV:

I bet you're wondering why this is important to me? It's for my mate. I heard he was planning on leaving me for this other mare. Not just any mare, but this one is so full of herself! She's a palace horse and because of that, she thinks she's better than everyone else! I then continued, but I almost ran into... well, by coincidence... my mate.

"Ma, I've been looking all over for you, what are you doing?"

"Well... I'm racing to be in the zodiac," I said.

"What? Why?"

"Because you're going to leave me for that stuck-up little..."

"What are you talking about?"

"She told me herself... oh, she was just getting in my head, isn't she?"

"Yeah, the only thing that's true is that she does belong to a palace... but I heard a rumor that they're thinking of kicking her out."

"Oh, I'm so happy..."

"So, are you still going to race?"

I then thought. "Yes, I'm going to be in the zodiac to shut her up!"

"I'll be routing for you."

I then kissed him and continued

"Hey, I heard the whole thing," says Gou, "that's great!"

"Thanks Gou," I said, "but you're still gonna eat my dust!"

"We'll see about that," says Gou.

We then continued on.
