Chapter One: The Promise.

Obi-Wan lands the Naboo Starship on one of the many landing platforms of the isolated post of Polis Massa. Master Yoda and Bail Organa, along with a few ground crew, are waiting as the ramp lowers, and Obi Wan walks out, carrying the unconscious Padme cradled in his arms. He is followed off the ship by Artoo and C-3P0.

"We'll take her to the medical centre immediately." Bail assures his friends, gesturing for the medical team to walk forward and take the woman from Obi-Wan's arms.

-- -

The experienced medical team made up of both alien doctors and droids, works on Padme in an operating theatre. Obi-Wan waits outside with Artoo, C-3P0, Master Yoda and Bail as the team works.

After a few minutes, one of the Droid medics leaves the theatre and approaches the gathered party. "Medically, she is completely healthy. But for reasons we can't explain, we are losing her."

Obi-Wan and the others are shocked. "Shes dying?" he whispers in horror.

The droid nods and continues to speak. "We don't know why, but she has lost the will to live. We need to operate quickly if we are to save the babies."

Once again, Bail is shocked. "Babies?" he mutters. he had not known his dear fellow senator and friend was pregnant. Of course, he had always theorised about her relationship with Skywalker, but to know it had gone this far...

The Droid nods again. "She's carrying triplets." It reveals.

"Save them and her, we must. They are our last hope." Yoda states, tapping his stick to the floor. There was no argument from his companions, they agreed with him.

The droid rushes back to the operating room at that, knowing that while the odds are slim, they would still try all they could to save the mother and her children.

Later on, the triplets are being delivered as Bail, Yoda, Artoo, and Threepio watch. Obi-Wan is in the operating theatre with Padme, holding her hand for support as she gives birth.

"Don't give up, Padme. Please my friend, you are so strong, you can give your children life..." he tries to encourage.

Padme winces from the pain as she pushes with all her might, trying not to scream. The birthing droid gently picks up the first baby, cleans it and then wraps it up in a comfortable cloth.

"It's a boy." The droid announces.

Padme smiles slightly and instantly names him. "Luke..."

The brunette then gritty her teeth as another wave of pain washes over her, the second baby was coming out.

"A girl this time." The droid states.

Padme once again instantly names her child. "Leia."

Finally, the third and last baby is born.

"And another boy."

This time, Padme takes a few seconds to come up with a name before finally saying: "P-Peter."

The droid nods, cleans him up and then gives him to Obi-Wan, who is already holding the other two.

The man leans over to show Padme her three bundles of joy, they are ever so cute and really how could they not be? They were the combination of both Padme and Anakin.

"You have triplets, Padme. They need you... hang on, please." Obi-Wan begs her. He can feel her strength failing, like it was being siphoned away. It was breaking him just to see this, He really didn't want to lose another friend today.

Padme shakes her head with sorrow. "I-Im sorry, I can't." She replies.

Padme winces again and takes his hand. She is holding Anakin's japor snippet in hand. "cut it into three, give them one each, so they have something of me and their father."

"Save your energy and words." Obi-Wan urges, but did as she had asked.

Padme shakes her head. "Please...take care of peter, He's a miracle. The others I knew about...he is a surprise. Triplets in the amidala family are unheard of." She told the Jedi before coughing.

After coughing, she looked him in the eyes. "I know there's good in him, in Anakin. Obi-Wan, I can...feel...it." she whispers before gasping one last time.

Her hand falls loose, and the breath leaves her body.

She was gone. The force had claimed her.

"It's risky... but it was her dying wish." Bail hums, not sure about what they should do with peter. A decision had already been made on his siblings.

"I-I feel no, I know I should raise him. Not just so I can fulfil my promise master but I feel that if I don't, then something dark will happen. Something in the future." Obi-Wan states.

Yoda hummed, sensing that also. "Decided it is, no good can come if we ignore this. Raise him you will, but tell him and Luke of their connection you will not."

Obi wan bows. "Yes master."

And so they would hide Leia with Bail but Ben would raise Peter as his own while keeping an eye on Luke, who he would leave with Anakin's step brother. He would not fail Peter as he had Anakin. He vowed this.

-- -

((Years later...Tatooine))

An injured robed man approaches a tired and older Obi-Wan. "M-Master. I thought I saw you in the town, But I wasn't sure... I didn't think you'd survived." He laughs, happy to have found a fellow Jedi.

Obi-Wan isn't happy. "You're making some kind of mistake." He states, voice cold.

"I'm sorry, my name is Nari, and there's no mistake." The Jedi insists, smile still on his face.

"You're looking for somebody else." Obi-Wan dismisses. It had been too long already, he wasn't usually this late home. Peter would be awake and worried.

The boy wasn't stupid to go out alone, but he did worry, more than normal.

"What are you doing here, Obi-Wan?" the Jedi asks, ignoring everything the man has said.

"My name is Ben." Obi-Wan corrects, refusing to acknowledge that old name.

"Come on, please. You have no idea what I've been through." Nari replies, he is scared and confused. His voice was much louder than it should be.

"Lower your voice, you must leave, You'll draw too much attention." The former Jedi Master told the young man.

"But I have nowhere to go. They're hunting me. Please, you have to help me." Nari begs.

"You want my help? Take your weapon, walk into the middle of the desert, and bury it in the ground. Stay hidden, Live a normal life." Obi-Wan tells him, turning to continue on his journey. He would acknowledge that, if only to make sure the man would definitely leave.

"What about the people that need us, What about the fight?!" Nari asks, still holding on to the past glories of the dead order.

"The fight is done. We lost." Obi-Wan told him, his voice cold and firm.

Disgust and shock comes over Nari's face. "What happened to you? You were once a great Jedi!" he exclaimed.

'I don't have a choice, Luke and Peter are my responsibility now.' He almost says, but he can't. He cannot and will not reveal anything to this person, Jedi or not.

"The time of the Jedi is over, Go back to the town." Obi-Wan tells him with a sigh, clicking his tongue so that his animal would move once again.

He ignores any other calls of his name.

Eventually he makes it home, where a wide awake Peter greets him by opening the door to their hidden home.

"Uncle Ben, Teeka stole and broke down the processor board again." The young boy told him, smiling slightly while adjusting his glasses.

Obi-Wan nods. "I know Peter. I had a go at him for it this morning while you were still asleep, now are you ready for your daily tests."

Peter grinned and ran off to change into his exercise clothes, even though he wasn't very athletic, he still enjoyed spending time with his uncle and father figure.

No matter what it was, he enjoyed his time with uncle Ben.

--

"We don't know who it was. No ransom, no leads. Whoever they are, They knew where she would be. They..." Bail trails off, unable to continue. So his wife and Queen, Breha, continues for him.

"They were waiting. She needs you, Obi-Wan. We can't trust anyone else."

There is a moment of silence as the bearded hermit thinks it over.

"What about the Senate?" he asks.

Bail shakes his head. "We cannot let this become public. It would draw too much attention to our...other dealings." He replies.

"Well, your guard then? Or a bounty hunter?" Kenobi tries.

"Only you know how important she really is, Obi-Wan. If Leia's true heritage is discovered..."

"I can't just leave here, Bail. My duty is to Peter and Luke." Obi Wan argues.

"But what about your duty to their sister? She's as important as they are!" Breha replies with a glare.

"It's been ten years, I'm not who I used to be. I haven't even used the force since...Well since Mustafar. Find someone else, She'll be better off." Obi-Wan switches off his comm device, cutting off the call.

Days later, Obi-Wan is woken by a tired Peter to inform him that somebody was at the door.

"She's headed for Daiyu." Bail organa says the moment the former Jedi walks downstairs.

"You should not have come." Kenobi mutters.

"They hid their signature behind a freight transport. The ship is on its way there now."

"I can't." Obi-Wan whispers, afraid.

"She's my daughter, Obi-Wan." Bail exclaims.

"I told you... my name is Ben now. And I'm not the man you remember." Kenobi dismisses.

"You're going to have to be!" Bail says with a glare, not backing down.

"I can't leave them."

"This isn't about Peter or Luke and you know it! You've made mistakes. We all did, It's the past. Move on, Be done with it. You couldn't save Anakin, but you can save her." Bail tells him.

"And what if I can't?" Obi-Wan whispers softly.

"There is no one I trust more with my child than you. Please, old friend. For Padme, One last fight." Bail pleads.

And really, how can Obi-Wan say no to that?

--

"-This princess is important to the Alderaanian people as well as the rebellion. You know I love you Peter, that will never change. You will stay with Owen and Beru while I am away."

Peter opened his mouth to say something but then closed it. "Please be careful, you can take my lucky bracelet if you need to." He offers.

Obi-Wan shook his head with a smile. "I don't believe in luck, but thank you my precious one. I'll be back before you know it. It won't take me long I promise."

Peter nodded and watched as the only man he ever viewed as a father took off on his mount, heading for Mos Eisley spaceport.

"Come on Petey, we got tons of work to be done. I'll show you how to fix a moisture evaporator." Luke told the other boy, throwing an arm over his shoulder.

They were good friends. Not close per se, but they knew they could rely on each other.

Obi-Wan was glad for that.

--

It took many more days than he thought, but Obi-Wan returned victorious. He had saved Leia, vanquished an inquisitor and had finally let go of some of his past.

He was looking forward to a good night's rest after a reunion with his nephew and charge, Peter. Then he would perhaps reveal his true identity and began delving into the force one again.

If only he knew what had transpired while he was away.

~ - ~ - ~ - ~

"I'm sorry, Ben. We did what we could." Owen told the man as he was being treated by Beru, who was dabbing at numerous cuts he had with a wet towel.

"Where's Peter?" Obi-Wan asked, now worried.

"Since you've been gone, the pikes tried to expand their territory. They have attacked numerous moisture farms and small outposts in this region. Peter was worried your house would be robbed, he insisted he'd be fine, that he knew all the shortcuts..." Owen trailed off.

"You let him go, on his own?" Kenobi exclaimed, eyes wide in terror and disbelief.

"No, of course not! I went with him. A group of them stunned and then beat me. They took him. I begged them not to but...I was helpless to stop them. I'm sorry, by the time I came to, they were gone." Owen explained, guilt and sorrow obvious in his tone.

Obi-Wan felt his heart turn icy cold. Peter had been taken, stolen by the pikes and he was either dead or being turned into a slave.

He had failed Padme. He had broken his promise to his dying friend. Not only that, but he lost the second person he viewed as a son.

And with that, he sunk to his knees.
