After Jade Walked Out of Nyx's Home
"You guys… go do that. I've got important things to do."
Jade walked along the sidewalk, hands in her pockets with a saddened expression. "Important things" as she said. Who was she kidding? In reality, she just wanted to be away from Myra.
Her mind flashed to that fateful night when King Boo shattered her parents in front of her.
"You… you murdered them!"
"Murdered them? HA! Nice try, I simply put them out of their misery. They were already dead before you got here. You wanna know why? I removed their souls out of their bodies the moment I turned them to stone. I even destroyed their souls seconds after I removed them! I was just waiting for the perfect time to rub it in your face… and what we had here was a golden opportunity. AHAHAHAHA!"
Jade closed her eyes, gritting her teeth at that horrific flashback before she relaxed herself. She took a deep breath and kept walking. After she had given what remained of their petrified bodies a proper burial, she put on a brave face soon after she cried. She had felt that moving on was the best case scenario. Move forward. That's what her parents would want.
The problem was… she moved on way too quickly and didn't take the time to air out her grievances. She simply locked them up and moved on, though there were times it snuck out and a rogue wave of emotions hit her, typically at night so no one could hear her crying… though only Nyx and Futaba secretly know about it.
She wanted to tell Futaba that she never truly moved on and just bottled it up, locking it inside of her and kept it locked in.
Hearing what Myra had done? It definitely affected her. Emotions she didn't want to escape.
She was still angry with her after what she did. She was the one responsible for her parent's death. She had King Boo kill her parents in cold blood. Myra was the reason she's an orphan.
…Was she?
Jade groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose. She had to admit, she didn't know who to blame more for this and it was confusing her. Four hundred years of corruption… all because of Myra not heeding the Shadow Queen's advice.
No, she was definitely to blame.
She soon found herself by the creek as she sat down, watching the water go by as Cheep Cheeps swam by, with some Skeeters and Surskit skating across the water with Magikarp and Goldeen swimming underneath, along with a Squirtle swimming around.
She sighed, unsure what to think, closing her eyes as she pictured giving her parents one last hug before they departed on that ghost hunting job. Her father smiling at her, her mother's warm embrace.
"We'll be back before you know it, darling."
What Jade wouldn't give to hug those two once more.
BGM: Dual Scream (Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon)
"Gah!" Jade yelped, snapping out of her thoughts as she dug into her pocket, pulling out her scroll, seeing that someone was calling her.
She hit the answer button.
End BGM
"This is Jade Gadd."
"Oh Jade, thank goodness! I was hoping you would've answered… wait, do you sound okay? You sound a little down."
"No, no, I'm fine. I'm just lost in my own thoughts." She said, brushing a bang beside her head. "What's up?"
"Well, we got a potential problem over at Mushroom City. You know Luigi's Casino? It's probably… haunted."
"What do you mean "probably"?"
"Slot Machines keep hitting Triple Sevens and shooting out coins, people are seeing messages being written out in cigarette smoke, poker chips are dancing on their own-"
"What kind of messages?"
"Eh, just the typical "hi there", but besides that, dice are rolling around, roulettes are spinning by themselves, roulette balls are being used as bowling balls with poker chips as pins, people are hearing whispers and are using them to cheat in card games… it's a whole mess! Don't get me started on the kitchen."
"So you want me to investigate?"
"Yeah, could you? I'm a bit freaked out over this."
"Alright, I'll see what I can do. Thanks Buck T."
"Anytime! By the way, have you ever gotten around to changing my name on your contacts? I'm not some "unknown caller" by this point. I literally drop points of haunted interests for you, ya know!"
"You're still hung up by that?"
"No! …Maybe… okay, a little bit."
"Relax, I'll get it done." Jade said as she hung up, then proceeded to change her contacts, then screen capped it.
"There, happy now?"
"About time!"
Jade rolled her eyes as she got up. She pulled out a ray gun that she had made together with Futaba as she turned the dial and fired at the ground, which a ? Block materialized. She picked it up, hit the bottom as a Cape Feather came out.
A green cape appeared behind her as she took a running start and then jumped in the air, flying straight for Mushroom City.
A few minutes later, Jade dismissed the power up after she landed, seeing Luigi's Casino in front of her. "Alright, let's see what we're dealing with."
BGM: Waltz of the Boos (Super Mario Galaxy)
Jade walked in, seeing that the lights were out after everyone had evacuated. The only lights that were on came from an aquarium with some Chinchou swimming around. Her best guess was that the ghosts turned off the lights.
Not that it ever deterred her as she put on some specialized night vision goggles. She had her Poltergust at the ready and started to explore the casino.
The first thing of interest that caught her attention were the slots. She went to investigate them as the slot machines' lights illuminated the area. As she approached one of them, a slot machine behind her had a lever slowly move down.
Jade shifted her eyes behind her as she turned around, and then more slot machines had their levers pushed. She narrowed her eyes as she slowly backed up as the slot machines slowly came alive, getting out of their bolts as they slowly "walked" toward Jade, firing coins at her.
Jade activated her semblance as the coins went through her harmlessly as she switched to the Ice mode and proceeded to freeze all the slot machines. At that moment, several Boos came flying out of the slot machines, only to get sucked in.
"Hope Luigi has these things insured…" Jade said as she turned around.
She then came up to a few tables with some liquid on one of them. She gave the liquid a close analysis before the night vision goggles clarified that it's not ectoplasm. She nodded, putting her finger on the liquid and licked it off, expecting it to be water.
"Blegh!" She coughed as the night vision goggles gave her the exact substance immediately after. "Vodka… you couldn't have told me that earlier?" She mumbled as she went on her way until she came across some invisible Peepas playing with some poker chips… and throwing them at a pyramid of dice for the sheer heck of it.
Jade couldn't help but feel amused over this, but ghosts were ghosts and she proceeded to suck them in, though she accidentally sucked in some dice and poker chips. "Ooops." She spat them back out… only for a Peepa to come out, snagged its "toys" and went back into the Poltergust.
She sweatdropped. "I'm… sure they have spares." She said, making a mental note to release the Peepas later on.
She heard rustling coming from the kitchen as she hurried off to investigate, her shoes kicking away some broken bottles of alcohol, poker chips and coins scattered about, along with some chairs knocked over.
As she walked into the kitchen, an entire wine shelf immediately tipped over as wine bottles came crashing down and smashed against the marble floor. Her heart sunk just looking at it… not because she wanted to try it out later when she was older, but because she knew how certain fine wine was expensive, and they all looked pretty pricey.
All of that cash down the drain… Jade thought, putting on an oxygen mask to filter out the smell of alcohol that permeated the air. She wasn't gonna get drunk on her watch. She soon found the culprit, a few Boo Guys that were wanting to create chaos for the fun of it… and got promptly sucked in.
She then proceeded to grab a mop and mopped everything up before putting it into a cart and then dumped it into the sink while also opening up a door and windows, and turned the fan on to let the smell of alcohol blow outside.
She walked out of the kitchen and pulled the oxygen mask off of her face as she continued to look around.
She soon reached the aquarium after investigating a few roulette wheels that were used, complete with ectoplasm that she sucked up. Inside the aquarium, she saw some Chinchou swimming around alongside a Relicanth, a Veluza and some Basculin swimming around while some Staryu and Corsola hung around at the bottom.
One Corsola looked up and happily waved at her. Jade smiled and waved back… only for a Basculin to swim near the Corsola that caught her attention. This wasn't any normal Basculin… it was white striped.
End BGM
"A white striped Basculin…?" Jade wondered as the Basculin turned to face her. "I've never seen a peculiar color from you before." She mused. "Wait… white striped… I think Ruby said something about you in Hisui."
She looked at it curiously. "Either you came out of a time portal, or you actually survived." Which begs the question if Hisuian Pokemon actually lived and weren't extinct like most people thought.
"You must be pretty lonely possibly being the lone survivor of your colored striped…" Jade said, gently putting her hand on the tank. The Basculin put its head against the glass, seemingly trying to touch Jade's hand.
She closed her eyes. "I'm lonely too… I know I have a team, a girlfriend and my grandparents but… I'm incomplete… you probably feel the same way…"
She took off her night vision goggles, her eyes a bit misty. "Your family has probably been ripped away from you… I should know… I didn't properly say goodbye to my parents. It was a simple "goodnight, see you in the morning" and that was it… though when they hadn't come back, I went looking… and when I found a haunted house that they went into, that's when I came across King Boo. My grandfather came in and saved me before I joined my parent's fate…"
She sniffled, trying her best to contain herself. "When I reunited with my parents… their petrified bodies were destroyed right in front of me. All because of that ghastly King… I didn't have the chance to talk to them one last time… it's not fair… having your loved ones stripped away from you… n-not to mention… watching their bodies break…"
BGM: Sad Girl (Super Mario Galaxy)
She fought her tears, clenching her fists. "How… how can anyone move on from it… and it's because of that damn bitch… she corrupted King Boo and she… she's nothing but a fraud. She's no hero in my eyes… I hate her so damn much… she… she was the reason my parents are dead!"
She sighed. "I wish… I just wish my parents were with me right now! I just want to feel their hugs once more just like how you probably want to reunite with your own family! I just… want to be held by them again…"
Tears streamed down her cheeks.
"It's not fair… why did this have to happen to me… WHY DID IT HAVE TO HAPPEN THIS WAY?!" She yelled. "Myra stripped my parents away from me… and you… you probably had a Myra in your life that stripped your family away… I just… want to hug them… one last time… kiss them on their cheeks… just… one more time is all I'm asking…"
"Did you say Myra?"
End BGM
Jade gasped, looking around to see where that voice came from.
"I haven't heard that name in centuries!"
Jade wiped her face. "Wh-who are you…?"
"Ehehehehehehe~!"
The laughter echoed throughout the casino. The Water type Pokemon disappearing deeper into the aquarium, save for the curious white striped Basculin that didn't want to leave Jade's side. She reached for her Night vision goggles and put them back on, seeing a rather laid back King Boo in front of her.
"Helloooooooo~!"
"You're… that Boo from Delfino. I've heard about you. Luigi and Daisy wouldn't stop talking about you. I wonder if things would've been different if I had investigated the casino…"
"I haven't seen a ghost buster in a while. What's your name?"
"Jade Gadd…"
"Jade Ga-... Jade Gadd! My my my, so you're the one who sucked up my brother! Small world, am I right? Though it seems like it's ever growing these days, ehehehehe~!"
"Your… demeanor is a lot different than the one I'm familiar with."
"Aaaah, I'm laid back. Sure, we're both kings, but eh… we're brothers!"
"Well, your "brother" had to go and take my family away from me."
"Ah… yes… that he did… I cannot deny that. But let me be clear… he wasn't always like that."
"Yeah, because that fraud Myra had to do something about it."
"Fra-... Fraud? What the heck are you on?"
"I've met Myra… apparently she froze herself in time to keep Viola in check, but now she's reanimated four centuries later. Not only that, but your brother escaped from his prison."
"Ah… I was wondering why I've felt colder than usual…" King Boo mused.
"Apparently she gave your brother this gemstone that turned him evil… and the rest is history…"
"Ah, I remember that day… ruined my margaritas too!" He mumbled. "But what I've been told is that Myra is the sweetest and kindest human of all time."
"Yeah right…"
"Hmmm… hold on a moment!"
King Boo disappeared and then came back with a lounge chair, scooping Jade in and then pulled up a chair, pulling out a notebook as he "sat down".
"Allow me to tell you a story. You see, Myra and my brother go way back. They both helped each other out and, well, they were best friends. When Myra took care of the monster near our mansion, she thought it was pretty and thought it'd look good on him. Unfortunately, it corrupted him and… well, you know the rest. No one knew that the jewel had corruptive energy."
"But her grandmother warned her that something was off about it!"
"Aaaah… but I don't think even she knew the power it contained. Still… how does that make you feel?"
"Angry, frustrated, hurt… livid…"
"Ah yes yes…" King Boo wrote it down. "Absolutely valid! And another thing to note-"
"Wait! What am I doing?" Jade sat up. "I don't need therapy for this! I'm perfectly fine on my own!"
"Uh-huh… and yet, you were wailing about it earlier."
"Who cares? No one needs to know…" Jade mumbled. "I can handle my emotions on my own."
"Can you though? I can tell you're bottling it up. How long has it been since that event?"
"I think it's been a year at this point…"
"And you've been bottling it up that long after defeating my bro? Have you had time to grieve?"
"I've grieved, but I've also moved on. That's what my parents would want…"
"How long would you say you've grieved?"
"I don't know… a minute? Maybe two minutes?"
"Goodness me, and you moved on after that? You abruptly set aside your grief to put on a brave and happy face? I ain't no therapist, but even I can tell you haven't processed your grief properly."
"I've processed them just fine."
"Uh-huh…"
"...What are you getting at?"
"Your emotions are what's causing you to blame Myra for this. Sure, she made a mistake, but she tried to get it off of him, but unfortunately, it wouldn't let her."
"My emotions are causing me to blame Myra? What, should I just be an emotionless robot?"
"No no no, that's not what I'm saying! I'm saying that you're letting your emotions blind you. Once you move past it, you'll be seeing a broken girl who is need of a hug, and let me tell you, you need a hug right now. I'd hug ya but unfortunately… my little nubbins go through folk."
"...I still don't need therapy for this."
"Just consider it. Once you let go of this rope that you're holding on to, you'll be a lot freer. Happier even. Just pour out your emotions and be free!"
"...If only it was that simple. I don't think I'll ever forgive Myra…"
"The first step is forgiveness."
Jade looked away. "I wish I could…" She mumbled. "...Hey, wait a minute… you probably know. How did your brother escape anyway?"
King Boo grimaced. "Aaaah… weeeell… uh… promise not to freak out?"
"Come on, it can't be that bad. It's not like I got possessed or anything."
"Well… it went like this-"
Outside of the casino…
"I'm getting impatient!" A casino goer said. "I'm going in there right now and demand to know what's taking so long. There can't be any more ghosts in there!"
"WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!" Jade shrieked.
"Never mind! There's a screaming banshee in there. I'll just come back tomorrow!"
"Me too!"
"I just remembered I have a dentist's appointment!"
The gambling enthusiasts quickly hightailed it out of there.
Back inside…
"Oh god… oh god no… oh no no no no no!" Jade shuddered, hugging herself as she was paler than usual.
"Well, you took it better than I thought you would."
"God, I feel violated! I feel disgusted… uuugh!" Jade groaned. "And I had to sacrifice my blood to… uuuuugh!"
With quick thinking, King Boo quickly found a bowl, filled it with water from the aquarium and dunked the white striped Basculin inside and handed the bowl to her. "Here, have an emotional support Basculin!"
Jade had to sit down while holding the Basculin. "How… oh god no…"
King Boo quickly flew to a radio, turned it on and looked through some songs. "Ah, here we go. Some calming music to soothe you!"
"Uuuuugh… I feel gross… and I also feel really really upset, but I'm too grossed out to be mad!"
"Deep breaths now… breathe deep. Put your face in the bowl and hug the Basculin… wait, no, bad advice. Forget what I said about that part.
The Basculin suddenly leaped out of the water and put her mouth to her cheek before plunging back into the bowl.
"Oooor let the Basculin kiss you, that works too. By the way, that Basculin's female. Don't ask me how I know."
Jade looked at the Basculin. "I… think I'll call you Calypso."
"Ah, that's a nice name."
"Yeah…"
Jade took a deep breath. "Well… I guess I should be capturing you, since you've been haunting this place."
"You could, oooooor I can tag alongside you and hang out with y'all. I've grown bored of haunting casinos throughout the world anyway."
Jade sweatdropped. "Wait… what?"
"Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do! I know where you live anyway. The Boos that defected from my bro know all about where you live, so I'm gonna crash there. Toodles~!"
"Wait, hold on! Wait-"
King Boo turned invisible and flew away, and just when Jade put on her goggles, King Boo disappeared through the wall.
Jade sweatdropped. "What… just happened?" She wondered as she looked at her Basculin. "Come on, let's go build an aquarium in my lab and… officially capture you into a Pokeball. I should also introduce you to Pikaboo… I can't believe I accidentally left him at home."
Jade pulled out her scroll, texting Buck T.
"It's done. The casino should be back online."
"Awesome, you're the best! …How bad's the damage?"
"Luigi's insured this place, right?"
"...Hoooo boy, that's not good."
"I'm sure he'll figure it out."
Jade put her scroll away and walked out, with a white striped Basculin in her arms.
Ibuki: Jade-chan needs a hug... all of the hugs!
Deadpool: Not to mention Nyx's home is gonna be haunted by a Sunshine-y King Boo.
Ah... I'm sure they'll be fine. Anyway, this Gaiden was suggested by Jacob!
