Chapter One
The night was dark and cold in the streets of Battle Creek, Michigan. Arms wrapped around her body and the cold air blowing in her face, Kelly knew she needed to find a place to sleep for the night. She had already passed a few motels, but none of them had any vacancies. She pulled her arm away from her body and glanced at her wrist, reading the time on her watch: 4:12 am. She sighed wrapping herself back up. Her eyes scanned the street and spotted another motel.
"Please be open." She whispered before running across the street towards Motel 6. She took in her surroundings as she approached the door, and pulled, but it was locked. "No no no." She slammed her palm against the closed door in frustration. Letting out a heavy sigh, her eyes scanned through the parking lot. She wasn't walking another mile to find another closed Motel, so she knew what she had to do. She stepped onto the pavement and strolled over towards the cars.
The first three were locked, until the fourth car- a 1967 Chevrolet Impala wasn't. With such a nice car, she was surprised it wasn't locked. Whoever owned this car must have been in a rush not to lock it.
Stopping beside the car, she looked around briefly to make sure she wasn't being watched before opening the passenger door. It screeched as it opened, making Kelly switch, cringing at the sound, scared to get caught. She bent down and pulled the passenger seat forward so she could get into the back. Climbing into the Impala, she carefully closed the door, but that didn't stop it from slamming a little too loud. She sighed in relief, leaning her back against the soft leather seat. Exhaustion took over her body and her eyes closed, drifting off to sleep…
