Chapter 7: A Matter of Trust:
Kovu's POV:
Somehow, I had to find a way to earn everyone's trust.
Chorus: One, two, a-one, two, three, four
Some love is just a lie of the heart
The cold remains of what began with a passionate start
And they may not want it to end
But it will it's just a question of when
I've lived long enough to have learned
The closer you get to the fire, the more you get burned
But that won't happen to us
'Cause it's always been a matter of trust
Now I know you're an emotional girl
It took a lot for you to not lose your faith in this world
Well, I can't offer you proof
But you're gonna face a moment of truth
It's hard when you're always afraid
You just recover when another belief is betrayed
So, break my heart if you must
It's a matter of trust
You can't go the distance
With too much resistance
I know you have doubts
But for God's sake, don't shut me out
This time you've got nothing to lose
You can take it, you can leave it, whatever you choose
I won't hold back anything
And I'll walk away a fool or a king
Some love is just a lie of the mind
It's make-believe until it's only a matter of time
And some might have learned to adjust
But then it never was a matter of trust
I'm sure you're aware, love
We've both had our share of
Believing too long
When the whole situation was wrong
Some love is just a lie of the soul
A constant battle for the ultimate state of control
After you've heard lie upon lie
There can hardly be a question of why
Some love is just a lie of the heart
The cold remains of what began with a passionate start
But that can't happen to us
'Cause it's always been a matter of trust
It's a matter of trust
Oh, it's been a matter of trust
It's a matter of trust
'Cause it's always been a matter of trust!
It has not been easy. So far, I have disappointed Fuli the cheetah, Bethe the hippo, Ono the egret, and Anga the eagle.
"You okay," asks Kiara.
"Oh... I'm fine," I said.
"Still haven't earned everyone's trust," asks Kiara.
"No," I said.
"Well, to be fair, your people probably wouldn't have trusted me," says Kiara.
"True..."
"She does have a point!"
"Quiet Pumbaa!"
"Wait," says Kiara. She then takes a look. "Timon and Pumbaa!"
"This time, Simba didn't send us," says Timon, "we're here for the grub!"
I then looked at the birds. "Yeah, I see some tasty looking birds over there," I said.
"Oh... I see the confusion," says Timon, "yeah, me and Pumbaa don't eat birds, I was talking about actual grub."
"They eat bugs," says Kiara.
"Oh... what," I asked.
"These birds are hogging all the grub," says Timon.
"First, I find that phrase offensive," says Pumbaa, "and second, I find this predicament even more offensive!"
"I think I have an idea," says Kiara.
. . .
"So... is this some sort of training exercise," I asked.
"No, it's fun," says Kiara.
I never learned anything about fun. Kiara and I then let out a roar that scared the birds.
"Now we're talkin'," says Timon.
"Free grub," says Pumbaa. The two then started eating bugs.
"Y'know, you're alright," says Timon.
Then some angry birds charged at us, and we had to run.
. . .
We managed to get away from the birds. "That... was fun," I said.
"Kovu, right," says Timon, "you can hang with us anytime."
"Yeah," says Pumbaa.
"You were great," says Kiara, "well, we better go."
They then walked away.
"Well done," says Scar, "an interesting strategy, having fun with Simba's idiots so you can earn their trust..." Then he got mad. "That was your plan, wasn't it?"
"UUUUUUUUUhhhhhhhhh... yes," I said.
"Because I would hate to think that Simba's not the one you plan of betraying," says Scar.
"No," I said, "my loyalty will always be towards you!"
"Good," says Scar, "also, do be careful when walking behind the warthog, I'm dead and I can still smell him!" Scar then leaves.
I then looked. How is it no one has noticed that?
Zazu's POV:
"I saw it again," I said.
"Do you think that fire is a bad sign," asks Ono.
"Ono, Anga, I want you two to keep an eye on Kovu," I said, "I worry about the Princess."
"Affirmative," says Ono. The two then fly away.
I do hope I'm wrong.
To Be Continued
In the next chapter, Simba has a nightmare.
