Chapter 9: Upendi:

Kiara's POV:

Kovu and I were going for a walk. "Kiara... I have... something to say..."

"I found them, Rafiki," says this girl mandril.

"Well done, Makini," says Rafiki.

"Hey, he's the guy who led that song that praised your dad," says Kovu.

"He's a family friend and that's his grandniece," I said.

"I have a special place to take you to," says Rafiki, "Upendi!"

"How do we get there," I asked.

"I'm glad you asked," I said.

Rafiki: There's a place where the crazy moon
Makes the monkeys sing and the baboons swoon
And the sultry scent of the lotus bloom
Will carry you away

While the hippos swing from the jungle vines
And the rhino rhumba in a conga line
Or the pink flamingoes are intertwined
As the stars come out to play

In Upendi
Where the passion fruit grows sweet
And it's so divine
That you lose your mind
As it sweeps you off your feet

In Upendi
Without a worry or a care
It just takes two
To make it true
Your heart will lead you there

Kiara: Where is it?
Rafiki: No place you don't take with you.

You better watch your step 'cause the path is steep
Better hold your breath cause the water's deep
It's a long way down over Lovers' Leap
But falling's half the fun!

In Upendi
Where the passion fruit grows sweet
And it's so divine
That you lose your mind
As it sweeps you off your feet

In Upendi
Without a worry or a care
It just takes two
To make it true
Your heart will take you there

You can beat the bush like there's no tomorrow
From Tanganyika to Kilimanjaro
But you'll find Upendi wherever you are
Or underneath the sun

Kiara: Upendi - it means "love", doesn't it?
Rafiki: Welcome to Upendi!

Rafiki/Chorus: In Upendi
Where the passion fruit grows sweet
And it's so divine
That you lose your mind
As it sweeps you off your feet

In Upendi
Without a worry or a care
It just takes two
To make it true
Your heart will take you there

Kiara: Upendi!

Rafiki/Chorus: Down In Upendi
Way down
In Upendi!

"It's like Timon and Pumbaa's hakuna matata... only less relaxed," says Rafiki.

. . .

And it is that moment... where I realized who the lion I loved was.

"By the way, your friends have been following me," says Kovu.

I looked. "Ono? Anga? Did my Father send you?"

"No, Zazu," says Ono.

"Because there's this weird fire that comes and goes wherever Kovu is," says Anga.

"What," I asked.

"UUUUUUUUUhhhhhhhhh... I should be more careful," says Kovu.

. . .

We returned to Pride Rock. My Father then stepped out. "I have made a decision," he says, "come inside, Kovu!" I guess he's going to give Kovu a chance now.

Vitani's POV:

I saw the whole thing and Kovu still hasn't killed Simba yet! Mother's not going to like this... but more importantly Scar's not going to like this!

To Be Continued

In the next chapter, Zira plans a trap for Simba.
