It was a beautiful summer day as Molly Worth checked on her favorite horse - a pregnant mare named Matilda. Molly had owned Matilda since the horse was a foal and now at ten-years-old, Matilda was expecting her first foal.

Molly was expecting her first baby and was loving the way it felt inside her. Both she and her husband, Robert, were excited. The excitement also came with fear - Molly had miscarried the previous year and now with both Robert and Molly working full-time, it was hard for the couple to see each other, other than on their days off.

"Luv, I want you to rest. We don't want to lose this baby like we lost the first one, huh?" Robert said as Molly entered the house.

"I'm being careful. I promise" Molly told her husband, taking off her coat and boots. She then waddled to the kitchen table and sat down.

"I'll make you some tea. There's a turkey sandwich waiting for you" Robert said, kissing her forehead.

"I do hope I can have my favorite midwife when it comes time to deliver" Molly said, watching Robert in their small kitchen. Her midwife was Trixie Franklin, "she delivered my first and after losing him shortly after birth, I'm hoping she'll make it out to deliver this one."

"I'm hoping she will, too" Robert said, giving Molly her lunch, "here you go, dear."

"Thank you" Molly said, smiling at her husband before eating her lunch and drank her tea.

Robert went to his job at the docks as Molly sat in her comfortable chair, hands on her belly.

"I'll be home before you have time to miss me, love" Robert said, kissing the top of Molly's head, then kissed her belly, "you be good for mummy."

Molly smiled a bit and turned on the TV to Doctor Who. She was about to enjoy her program when there was a knock on the door. Molly turned the TV off and went to the door, "who's there?"

"Midwife speaking. We missed you at clinic today" a familiar voice said on the other side of the door.

"Molly smiled and squealed as she opened the door, hugging Trixie, "oh, I've missed you!"

"I've missed you, too" Trixie said, smiling at Molly, "how are you feeling and how's baby?"

"I've been well and baby is doing wonderfully" Molly said, going to her bedroom and laid on the bed, watching Trixie do her exam.

"Baby's head has moved down in position for birth" Trixie said, "have you decided whether you're staying here or should I check you into a maternity home?"/

"I would love to have my baby here, if that's all right" Molly said.

"Of course" Trixie said, squeezing Molly's shoulder, "how's Matilda doing?"

"She's well. Would you like to see her?" Molly asked, getting off her bed and put her boots and coat back on, smiling as Trixie followed her to the barn. The two women entered the barn where four horses poked their heads over the stalls, nickering curiously.

"There's Gus, Carrots, Matilda and Sox" Molly pointed out each horse, "Gus is the father of Matilda's foal. The other two are brother and sister - we got them from my sister when she moved to America."

"They're beautiful" Trixie said, gently stroking Carrots' nose.

Molly smiled as a barn cat entered Sox's stall, "Magpie. Get out of there" she told the cat, entering Sox's stall. She forgot that Sox was younger and he spooked easily.

Trixie was too busy stroking Carrots' nose to notice that Molly had disappeared. She only stopped stroking Carrots' nose when she heard a cry of pain, "Molly?"

Molly was on the floor of Sox's stall, holding her belly as Sox whinnied fearfully.

Trixie opened the stall door for Sox to go outside. She then turned to Molly, "Molly? Are you all right?"

Molly cried out in pain as she pulled a hand away from her belly - it was covered blood.

"We need to get you inside and to call an ambulance" Trixie said, carefully getting Molly to her feet and brought her inside. She laid Molly on her bed and went to call Nonnatus House.

"Nonnatus House, midwife speaking" Jenny picked up on the second ring.

"Jenny - it's Trixie. I need your help - Molly Worth was kicked by a horse and she's bleeding really bad. I need to call an ambulance, but can you call Doctor Turner to see if he can come right away" Trixie told her friend.

"Of course" Jenny said and hung up.

Trixie called an ambulance, then went to sit with Molly, "Doctor Turner and the ambulance are on their way."

Molly nodded, "did you call Robert?"

"I'll go do that, sweetie" Trixie said, going to call Robert. She came back five minutes later, "Robert's on his way. If we're lucky, everyone will arrive at the same time."

"Thank goodness the farm isn't far from Poplar" Molly said. She felt tears stream down her face, "what if I lose this baby like I lost the other one?"/

Trixie didn't know what to say as she sat with Molly, dabbing her forehead.

Twenty minutes later, the ambulance, Robert and Doctor Turner arrived.

Doctor Turner examined Molly, "we should get her to the hospital. I want to get the bleeding under control."

Trixie nodded and watched the ambulance men load Molly onto a stretcher. She was about to get into Doctor Turner's car when she saw Sox running like a wild man, "I need to get him back in the barn."

"Trixie, we don't have time. A neighbor can do that" Doctor Turner said.

Trixie sighed and got into the car.

Thirty minutes later, the ambulance and Doctor Turner's car pulled into the hospital where Molly was taken to surgery. Trixie, Doctor Turner Robert stayed in the waiting room, hoping both Molly and the baby were all right.

When it was close to morning, a smiling doctor came out of the emergency room and walked over to Robert, "your wife and new daughter are doing well. Your daughter is a little on the small side, but she's doing well. There's no sign of a brain bleed or fractured skull from the horse kick."

"May I see them?" Robert asked, tears in his eyes.

The doctor nodded and led the way to where Molly was.

Molly was asleep on her side, looking peaceful. To her immediate left, there was a baby wrapped in a pink blanket, fast asleep on her back in an incubator.

Robert felt tears in his eyes, happy that his wife and child were perfectly fine.

Molly woke up a short time later and told Robert to hand her the baby, then go get Trixie.

Robert returned with Trixie a short while later and offered her the chair he was sitting in.

"Is she all right?" Trixie asked.

Molly nodded, gazing down at her little girl, "the entire time I was pregnant, we discussed baby names. We couldn't think of a good boy name, but there was only one girl name that we could agree on and that is Penelope Beatrix Worth, named after our favorite midwife and my twin sister who died when she was four years old. We'll either call her Trixie or Penny, but we'll figure that out when she's older."

"Trixie felt tears in her eyes, "may I hold my namesake?"

"Of course" Molly said, carefully handing the baby to Trixie.

Trixie looked down at the sleeping baby, "hello there, sweetie. I'm a friend of your mummy's. You're a beautiful right little thing" she talked to the baby a while longer before handing her to Molly, "well done you two. She's beautiful."

Molly smiled as she got Trixie ready to nurse.

"I'll be back in a couple weeks to check on you and baby" Trixie told the family before exiting the room.

"I'll give you a ride home" Doctor Turner told Trixie, "how's the family?"

"They're doing extremely well" Trixie said, feeling tears in her eyes.

Doctor Turner frowned, "Trixie? Is something the matter?"

"I never thought that anyone would name a baby after me" Trixie said, feeling tears stream down her cheeks.

Doctor Turner smiled gently and hugged Trixie, "you deserved it - you've been with this family for three years. They've trusted you far more than any other person I've seen you with."

Trixie smiled a bit and looked out the window as they headed back to Nonnatus House, dreaming about her own family.

One Year Later

It was now little Trixie's first birthday. Molly was making a cake while Robert entertained the birthday girl.

Trixie - or as her parents called her - Penny, as to not confuse her with her namesake - was the most beautiful baby Molly had ever seen. She had reddish-blond hair like her mom, but had her dad's big green eyes. She was also curious about everything and loved the horses.

Matilda had delivered a healthy colt that Molly named Spot, due to a large white spot on his right hindquarter. Both mother and baby were grazing nearby.

Trixie, Jenny and some of the other midwives and their families arrived for Penny's first birthday.

"Awnt Twixy!" Penny squealed at seeing her namesake.

"Hello there little one!" Trixie said, picking up the little girl, "happy birthday."

Molly walked over, "it's good to see all of you again."

"You as well, Molly. How are you feeling?" Jenny asked, seeing Molly's small baby bump.

"Doing well" Molly said, "I've hired an assistant so I can have more time off when this little one comes."

"That's wonderful" Trixie said, kissing Penny's cheek, "are you excited to be a big sister?"

Penny nodded, "you see Spot? Him be my horsey when I big.

Trixie smiled at the cute little girl, "where's Spot?"

"Dere!" Penny said, pointing to where Matilda and Spot were grazing, along with the other horses.

Sox was running with Carrots and Gus, both of which kept up with the younger horse.

Once everyone left and Penny was down for a nap, Molly went to visit the horses, giving special attention to each one.

"I will not be entering your stall anymore, young man" Molly told Sox, looking at the chestnut gelding with two white socks on his back legs.

Sox snorted and flicked his ears before going back to his dinner.

Molly headed back to the house, thankful she didn't lose her baby due to the horse kick a year ago. She had learned to count her blessings and be grateful for what she had.

A few months later, Molly gave birth to a healthy baby boy she and Robert named James Robert. Penny was excited to be a big sister and loved James, always wanting to help.

Molly went to working as a vet part time, hiring a man named Cyril to take on working the days she wasn't working. She wanted to spend all her spare time with her two children.

Two weeks after James was born, Trixie came to the house to check on him and spend some time with Penny and Molly.

As Trixie left the house, she hoped that someday she would meet a nice man and have children with him.

Trixie would learn to hold onto hope./p
