Once upon a time in the bustling city of San Francisco, Scott Lang, also known as Ant-Man, found himself embarking on his most challenging yet rewarding mission: being a loving father to his daughter, Cassie.
Despite his extraordinary abilities, tucking Cassie into bed on his days with her remained one of his most cherished moments, where ordinary matters took precedence over superhero duties and he could just be a Dad watching his daughter grow up.
She was usually a tiny ball of energy, always bouncing around and exploring the world with a mischievous grin on her face, but tonight, as she lay in her bed, she looked small and vulnerable, her eyes soft and sleepy. Her small frame, currently clad in a latest shade of purple that Maggie had let her buy, was snuggled beneath the soft covers, her sparkling eyes fixed on her father's face as the dim glow of the bedside lamp cast a warm, cosy ambiance in the room.
"Daddy, tell me a bedtime story?" Cassie pleaded, her voice filled with excitement.
Scott smiled, brushing a lock of hair away from her forehead. "How about a story about superheroes?" he suggested.
Cassie's eyes widened with delight as she nodded eagerly. "Yes, please!"
Scott cleared his throat and began his tale. "Once upon a time in the city of San Francisco, a young girl named Cassie discovered that her father, Scott, had an extraordinary secret. He was the amazing Ant-Man, a superhero with the power to shrink to the size of an ant."
Cassie's face lit up with wonder as she listened intently, hanging on to every word. She imagined herself joining her father on incredible adventures, fighting alongside him to save the world.
"Every night, after a long day of protecting the city, Ant-Man would check in on Cassie to make sure she was safe and sound," Scott continued. "He would quietly sneak into her room and make sure no monsters or bad guys were lurking under her bed or in her closet."
Cassie giggled, clutching her favourite stuffed bunny tightly. "Did Ant-Man find any monsters?"
Scott winked mischievously. "Oh, he found a few, but with his superhero powers, he banished them all and saved the day. Nothing could harm his precious little girl."
Cassie beamed, her eyes filled with admiration for her heroic father. "I love you, Daddy," she whispered, reaching out to squeeze his hand.
Scott's heart swelled with love as he leaned down to kiss Cassie's forehead. "I love you too, sweetheart. You will always be my greatest adventure."
Cassie snuggled deeper into her pillows, feeling safe and loved. As her eyelids grew heavy, she whispered, "Will you stay with me until I fall asleep?"
Scott nodded, settling himself into the chair next to her bed. He gently stroked her hair as she drifted off into dreamland, knowing that in her dreams, she would forever be a brave little superhero just like him.
Scott glanced at the pictures on Cassie's walls as his hand passed though her hair. They were filled with memories of their adventures together, from family vacations to birthday parties. He couldn't help but smile at the images, each one a reminder of the joy they had shared over the years, both just before Scott had gone to prison when she was a tiny, wriggling baby to after as she was now, his eyes suddenly wet looking down at her, but quickly disappearing as Cassie's voice echos in the room.
Goodnight, Daddy,' She murmurs sleepily.
'Goodnight, Peanut,' Scott replies, placing a kiss on her forehead. 'Sleep tight.'
As the room grew quiet and he managed to leave without waking her, Scott couldn't help but feel grateful for these moments with his daughter. No matter how busy or chaotic life got, he would always make time for these sweet moments with his little girl.
The weight of the world seemed a little lighter, knowing that he had his daughter's love and trust. He had fought against supervillains and saved lives, but this simple act of tucking his daughter into bed was by far his greatest achievement.
Because to him, she was the real superhero in his life and nothing would change that.
Ever.
