Chapter 1 - Ain't in Kansas anymore...
(Unknown location, unspecified time.)
The first thing that she had felt was the familiar pounding of her head. That led to two possibilities - either she had taken a glass of alcohol (which she never drinks since she finds the liquid to be awful) or something bad had happened last night. It's probably the latter choice.
For some unexplained reason, her body was hurting a little bit as if a giant rock had crushed her and broken her bones... Her closed eyelids were having difficulty opening. A painful groan left her mouth as she felt a soft breeze at that very moment.
From her initial appearance and age, it was estimated that she was around 18 years old with her exposed, pale skin showing birthmarks all around (especially on the arms). Cracking her eyelids open, both of her irises were hazel-colored. A finger-less gloved hand flipped her long-styled hair that was colored dark brunette away as she rubbed her eyes.
Her upper attire consisted of a very short sea foam-green jacket with short sleeves with a green trim and white frills and underneath was a black tank top with a zipper in the middle and pockets on the sides along with a matching black underskirt held up by a light green belt over green shorts. A pair of black boots with white laces over green socks covered her legs and feet along with two sets of black finger-less gloves with green accents that reached her elbows on both hands.
Finishing off her eye rubbing, she let out another groan as her vision was now completely clear. At least she could-
Her initial confusion turned into an annoyed look. "An alley...? Seriously? I'm completely clueless as to what the hell happened, ugh... my head... Great. Head's hurting and I'm laying in a dirty alleyway. Perfect!" She admitted in a frustrated tone.
Standing up slowly, she pinned herself against the brick wall to wait for a little bit until her strength was regained. Looking around, she felt herself in an unfamiliar place at this very moment. Once she had recovered, she headed out of the alley to find where she was and hopefully get some answers on her current predicament.
It didn't take long to even find a way out of the alleyway... cause the main... street was around...? The girl was immediately taken aback by what she had seen. Did a tornado pass through or something? A war maybe? She wasn't sure!
The entirety of this area seemed to be ruins completely with buildings boarded up completely or on the verge of collapse, many of the lights had been destroyed. The girl immediately had a bad feeling about this.
"What the hell went down exactly...?" The girl wondered as she scratched her head.
She continued searching and prayed that there would be at least one person that could answer the questions flowing through her head.
Then all of a sudden she began to feel a sense of Deja vu. Not at this very situation but at the fact that this place screamed familiarity completely. These buildings seemed known to her, the design especially. If she wasn't mistaken, it was a Victorian-styled architecture or something like that. But forget that... this entire area was definitely familiar! But where... where had she seen this before...?
Climbing down the stairs and turning a corner, she went back to the center of the area before a bright yellow light flashed and darkened on and off non-stop. She turned to look and saw a sign on the boarded up building that was completely broken but some of the words were visible: -CE-SO-Y SH-P
"Seriously... what happened to this place? It's like the wrath of God or the Apocalypse occurred." The girl theorized while scratching her head.
The first question had no answers since there weren't any clues to determine who or what had caused the complete disaster of this area or city... or whatever. She'd best pick up the pace and search harder.
The letters though... hmm, -CE-SO-Y SH-P... A game of guessing the correct letters, maybe? Worth a try...
She started with the last name. Three of the vowels were provided yet the third one was missing. SH-P... SH-P. A Ship, maybe? -CE-SO-Y Ship? She shook her head.
Not only did it sound like a dumb name but it made no sense. Shap? Shep? No and no... hmm, actually - Shop? She looked up as a question came up in her mind: was this a store or something else?
Shop... -CE-SO-Y Shop. Okay, the last name kinda of fit but what exactly was the first one exactly?
"I should probably get inside. Maybe I can find more information on the 'store' if I search well enough." The girl told herself.
Walking over to the doors of the store, she tried pushing them open yet had no luck! Damn it... someone must have barricaded it from the inside. She snapped her fingers in anger. Now what to do...?
One idea was to find some tools and make her own entrance... or look around for a backdoor. Two possibilities but only one solution.
Also, she could craft some make-shift tools to assist her... some rocks for projectiles too. Breaking and entering through one of the windows cause there's no way in hell she was going to hurl herself with the glass still intact! Better safe than sorry, as they say.
"Should check for a rock or a crowbar." The girl decided before beginning yet another search.
Her walking proved fruitful as she found a backdoor up the stairs... was it locked and connected with the store? Only one way to find out!
Putting her fingerless-gloved hands on the handles, she pulled them down and began to push the wooden doors as they budged a little... much to her surprise! She continued on with her eyes closed... Come on, just a little bit more, The girl thought in her mind.
Taking a small rest, she took a deep breath and pushed the doors again. It finally opened and she almost fell down on the ground but grabbed the wall before that could happen. Sighing in relief, she now had access to a new area.
Balancing herself by the wall, she shook her head and looked around in the somewhat dark room. Damn it... this room had no light as well. Son of a bitch...
The moonlight provided what little visibility there was and she could make out cobwebs and dust... lots of it. "Damn... this place really is a massive ghost town." The girl admitted.
Entering the dark room, she had to use the moonlight in order to see if she could figure out what this place is or was in past tense.
"Hmm... what's a person got to do to get a lantern or a flashlight at least...?" The girl wondered, searching the area.
That's when the girl noticed an undamaged lantern lying on the floor. "Huh, how convenient." The girl admitted with an amused look.
Picking it up, she turned the dial round and lit the place up a little. Much better! Now where was she?
She spotted a fireplace that was extinguished, some tables that had items and tools... her best guess was that this was formerly a forgery? Or something else entirely... that answer was uncertain.
Walking around, she checked inside the boxes and found items that were unfamiliar to her.
"Now what are you supposed to be?" The girl questioned.
Some of the box's contents had strange bottles with green liquids... others had rings with different colored gems in them.
"Hmm. More than just a simple forgery then. Doesn't really tell me where I am though." The girl admitted, scratching her head.
Continuing to look, she hoped to find more clues but ended up with only questions than answers. Snapping her fingers, she had an annoyed look once more.
Questions were beginning to form in her brain: Where was she? What part of Earth was this? Was she in Europe or America still? Where were the people? Why was she brought here...? As she pondered them and continued looking around, her eyes spotted a trapdoor.
Oh? Was it connected to a room downstairs? She could only hope it was the case.
Putting the lantern on the floor, she tried her best to utilize all her strength into opening the trapdoor by pulling up the handle. Yet... it didn't budge at all! Whatever was keeping the trapdoor closed was working... someone definitely did a number here!
Maybe they barricaded themselves to be protected against something dangerous? Someone really did their work properly on keeping it locked.
"Well, back to looking for people if there are any around." The girl stated with a sigh after failing to open the trap door.
Picking her lantern up, she turned around and prepared to step back outside until she heard something behind. She twirled her head around in time to see the trapdoor breaking completely and falling down into the darkness.
Huh. Convenient.
"Guess I'm investigating what's down there instead." The girl decided to herself with a smile, silently thanking whatever force had helped her.
She jumped down into a dark lit room... great. She needs her lantern to help her navigate. Turning around, she touched something that felt metallic... a ladder? She had to assume so.
Climbing back up the ladder, she picked up her newly claimed lantern and went back into the dark room. Taking a look around, it was the same story as outside and upstairs... a complete mess! Then she got an answer as to why she could enter the building: The doorway was completely blocked off by rubble! Ah, hell.
Her gaze became serious as she looked all around for clues... spotting a counter that featured an empty glass exhibit and another fireplace that was extinguished.
"It's gonna be a recurring thing... ain't it?" The girl questioned with a sigh, looking for anything that could be of help. Then she spotted something else besides the empty exhibit... there was a book laying on the counter too.
Walking and picking it up, she hoped it contained answers to the questions she had. Turning the page, she found the first one which was the name:
Diary of Yuffie Kisaragi - Don't touch!*
"Kind of late for that now since nobody's here." The girl joked amused after reading the title.
Snickering at her comment, she was about to flip to the next page when she froze... did she read that right!?
"Y-yuffie... Yuffie Kisaragi!? From Final Fantasy VII!?" She voiced out loud after reading the title once more.
She had to have read something wrong! There wasn't any way that this diary belonged to a video game character from one of her favorite video game series! There was no way it was true!
Then the girl paused as a thought came up in her head. "How am I reading the diary of a fictional character that's not supposed to even exist!?" She asked to no one in particular.
Again, she wondered where the hell she ended up in...?
"Something is clearly wrong about all of this. Let's what the book says..." The girl decided before turning a page.
The following was written on it:
Day 1: Heartless attacks have intensified around Traverse Town and everyone is on edge. I'm scared... very much. Leon and Aerith are working hard to determine where they are coming... I'm worried that we won't be enough to slow down the threat of the creatures of darkness.
All because of Sora... that little weasel! I can't believe we even trusted him! I thought he was someone who could save our home and us too... but he deceived us all! Bastard! I'll never forgive him! NEVER!
We lost so much and so many worlds have fallen to the darkness... I'm Yuffie Kisaragi and I'm scared. For my life and friends.*
"What...? That doesn't make any sense at all! That's not how Sora was in the games. There isn't any evidence to support that he's a traitor to the light." The girl told herself.
She immediately halted... Traverse Town... Sora...? Yuffie...? Her mind immediately went to full panic mode... no, this wasn't true. It had to be a dream! I just had to be... this wasn't the fictional world of Kingdom Hearts... it was impossible to be true!
"This has to be some sort of strange dream I'm having... there's no way." The girl admitted to herself.
To make sure, she pinched herself in order to wake up. But her fear remained on her face. It wasn't any sort of dream! IT WAS A LITERAL NIGHTMARE! FULLY AWAKE AND FINDING HERSELF IN A WORLD THAT WAS POSSIBLY KINGDOM HEARTS!
She pinched herself once more just to be safe but all it was making her was yelping in pain. Nope, still not a dream.
"How...? How the hell did I even land in Traverse Town, of all places? And why is it looking like a massive swarm of Heartless had ravaged the place completely?" The girl questioned herself.
Pacing around, she began to wonder to herself... actually, HOW did she even found herself in Kingdom Hearts? Did it have something to do with that headache she received? Did something happened last night?
All these unanswered questions began to fill up more and more like a tsunami... and it was hurting. She immediately picked up the book once more and resumed reading the next journal entries. Maybe it will help understand what's going on.
Offer some answers as to her current predicament.
Day 2 - More Heartless of mysterious origin have showed up... all bearing the signs of the King. Damn that Sora... creating new and unbeatable creatures. We have done our best to hold our grounds yet every day we lose another of our citizens of Traverse Town.
Aerith's telling me to be brave... I'm trying to... but it's proving to be a challenge.
Please... someone save us. Help us... Please.*
"How could someone like Sora do this...? Hmm, am I in some sort of alternate Kingdom Hearts universe?" The girl questioned.
The Sora that she enjoyed playing as on the PS2/PS3 versions of the games was always a hero of pure heart and strong... albeit a bit dense at times. But these first two journal entries depicted Sora as some sort of a monster... she wondered what was truth or false.
She had no idea what was in store upon reading more of the journal.
"I'm almost afraid to learn the rest... but I have to find the answers." The girl told herself and resumed reading more:
Day 3 - Another day, another patrol... nothing new.
Just watching out for any new Heartless appearing. No new casualties.*
Ordinary journal entry. She kept going to see what happened next. Nothing serious... YET.
Continuing on, she found other pages that depicted Yuffie's everyday life in Traverse Town. So far it was filled with the usual moody and somewhat normal writing from the ninja. Besides trying to survive, there were also mentions of patrols and whatnot.
A couple of pages later however, it turned worse:
Day 19 - Rinoa... Rinoa is dead... She's dead! Sora and his damned Heartless captured, experimented on her and killed her! She's gone and dead! I'm crying... Rinoa was like a mother to be me!
Why... WHY... I'LL KILL HIM! I'LL KILL THAT BASTARD!*
The girl cringed with a look of disgust on her face. "This is definitely an alternate reality. Sora would never do this if I was in the canon-verse of Kingdom Hearts." She admitted.
It was the only available theory on her mind. She turned back to reading more of the journal entries and got to Day 23:
Day 23 - Things are extremely tense at the moment and I don't know how to deal with it... It's been 4 days since Rinoa's demise and Leon's more colder than usual. Angry too...
Never have I seen him like this before. I wish I could comfort him somehow... yet I'm scared her might snap and yell at me.
At least Aerith is around to keep me company. She's still keeping a hopeful mood... somehow.*
"Damn... Heartless really traumatized her a lot. I guess a Heartless war definitely destroyed the refugee world." The girl concluded before resuming her reading.
She also had to wonder if it was the Keyblade War that caused this or something else entirely? Answers were uncertain yet. The girl continued to look through the book to learn more.
Next journal entries were again focused on the everyday struggles, random patrols... hmm, nothing really important.
"Where's the juicy stuff...?" The girl wondered with a frown.
Skimming through the pages, she eventually found a journal entry that was both surprising and unexpected:
Day 48 - We encountered a friend of Sora's today... well, an ex-friend to be precise. Her name is Kairi and she wants to revenge... for what Sora did to her. In truth, we saw what he did to her... Experiments, almost half her hand coated in darkness... she was a literal mess. Not to mention scars... the poor girl.
Ironically enough, she and Sora used to be very close... and yet... I rather not say.
At least we have a newcomer joining us. We'll do our best to help her get revenge.*
So, an alternate version of Kingdom Hearts... more darker and serious than expected. But... what was that about Kairi? Experiments? Her hand coated in darkness... holy hell. It was a mix of Fallout and Devil May Cry completely!
"Jesus H. Christ... really ended up in the hell-hole. An alternate reality indeed. Let's what else is in this journal?" The girl continued to read.
Day 56... detailed another patrol, Kairi just keeping her mind on the job. Nothing new to say... she flipped the pages, hoping to find the answers.
Then she got to Day 61, which was rather scary to be honest:
Day 61 - I... I don't know what to do anymore... I don't know who's out there and who's alive... I'm barricaded in a building in the Second District... Nobody is around to call me... the Heartless got to them no doubt.
How Sora had done it, I'll never know... but it seems he had some help and found out the weakest defense of Traverse Town. He penetrated the world via the sewer systems... and killed off the guards there... some of the inhabitants too...
Aerith, Leon... they're gone... I'm all alone now... scared and confused. I don't know what to do...
Please... someone... find and save me... please...*
And that was the last entry that was in the diary. For a brief moment, she wondered if Yuffie was still alive... somewhere on the other worlds.
Putting the book down, she shook her head. "What did Sora become? How could he do such a thing like this?" She pondered to no one in particular.
Author's Notes: So... quick word to mention before I post this. After noticing the cringe introduction along with the next chapter's forced romance, not to mention, that I'm not certain where exactly this story is heading, I've decided to rewrite the whole thing from scratch... already have the following chapter prepared. Just need to edit it and prepare to post it. Won't take long.
The pairing will be Sora x Res completely but we'll doing a slow romance than a quick one. I apologize for the rushing... won't try and do anything like that. As usual, the first world with be, of course, RWBY. Be ready for anything, especially involving the bitch villain of the series. I still have special plans for her.
Besides RWBY and Disney Movie worlds, there will be of course 'Real Life' worlds... AKA Worlds that are mature and serious. We'll see how that goes... for now, enjoy the chapter.
And don't worry about Yuffie's fate - she remains the same as Sora's dark queen. I might be surprising you in the following chapters though. Happy Reading!
As usual, don't own anything but the idea for the story. The self-insert belongs to Reseliee herself! Enjoy! Chapter 2 will be up soon!
