Wolf Princess Chapter 8

Since I had caught up to Remus the two of us had been walking for some time. I kept looking at the sky constantly checking the position of the sun in order to keep track of the time of day.

At one point as we were moving Remus had taken out that stick of his pointing it into the air. A moment later something bright and white came out of it shooting into the air. Before it completely flew away Remus spoke something to it and then it moved off.

I'd been watching with a curious expression on my face the entire time. "What's with the stick," I asked.

Remus turned to me, saying "Excuse me?"

Gesturing towards the stick he was holding, I repeated "What's up with the stick?"

Finally Remus got what I was saying. "Oh, this," he said. "This is a wand."

"A want," I said, head titled. Whatever a wand was I'd never heard of it before. "What's

a wand?"

"A wand," said Remus, "is a magical tool witches and wizards use in our every day lives."

"What do you use it for," I asked.

"A wand is used to caste a large number of spells, charms, curses, and all sorts of incantations," answered Remus.

"And I'm guessing that what you just did a moment ago was one of those," I said.

Nodding, Remus said "Yes, it is known as the patronus charm. It's quite a power and unique spell."

"Can…can you teach it to me," I asked, hesitantly.

"I can try to," said Remus, "but it depends on whether you have any magic inside of you. If you don't then any attempts you try on the spell won't work nor will any other spell."

"Do you think I have any magic, Remus," I asked.

"Do you," countered Remus.

Shrugging, I said "I don't know. Honestly nothing has ever happened to me to even assume I have any magic. If anything did then I never truly noticed it."

Remus then offered his wand out to me, saying "Here."

Not knowing what Remus wanted I took the wand from him. "What am I supposed to do," I asked.

"Try this spell and we'll see if you contain magic," instructed Remus. "Just point it at me and say silencio."

I did as I was told, saying "Silencio." I then brought the want back to my side. "Did it work?"

Remus opened his mouth to speak, but the strange thing was no syllables came out. His lips formed the words only there was just no sound originating there. Remus grinned at this new development. Gesturing with his hand he asked me for his wand back. As soon as he had it returned he pointed it at his throat. A few seconds later he could talk again.

"Well then," said Remus, "it looks like you are a magic user after all."

Surprisingly I smiled at the prospect of being a magic user. It would make things a lot more interesting I had to admit that I was beginning to get quite curious about it.

We kept walking for a while longer. Fortunately for the two of us we didn't run into any problems. If any of the creatures of the forest were watching us they didn't hinder us in any way. Many of them knew better than to mess with the human daughter of Moro.

I began to fall a bit behind Remus. Thoughts about my future were moving through my mind. With my thoughts all caught up I failed to realize we'd actually come to reach our destination.

"My friend," said Remus, softly, "We have arrived."

Coming up beside Remus I looked from the ground my jaw just dropping. The sight in front of me was that amazing. Standing there was an enormous structure. From the position I was in the sun was reflecting off of the structure making it shine. I couldn't keep the awe off of my face.

Remus was observing me off to the side as I was drinking it all in. Placing a hand on my shoulder, he said "Welcome to Hogwarts."

Looking at Remus and then back at the castle I was speechless. There were simply no words for me to say. Remus moved forward and after a few passing seconds I followed him. I noticed we were getting closer and closer tot a hut although I could tell it was different from the ones the centaurs used in the forest. I could hear loud barking coming from inside. As we got closer the entrance opened. A huge dog barreled out of it along with his owner. When the dog's owner came out of the hut I stopped in my tracks eyes wide.

The man was immense. By his stature he looked to be as tall as the height of his home a bit bigger than some of the centaurs in the herds that I knew of. From where I was positioned he seemed quite intimidating. The dog seemed to spot us before the man did. Barking like crazy the hound bolted away from his owner toward the two of us. Seeing his companion running off the man tried to call his dog back to him, but the animal wouldn't listen to him. He had his sights focused on something else.

The dog was running straight for us and I couldn't help, but take a few tentative steps back. On the other hand Remus stood where he was a huge grin on his face. He patted the side of his leg beckoning the dog that came directly to him.

"Hello, Fang," greeted Remus, scratching the dog behind the ears.

I was monitoring the exchange beside the two of them head cocked to the side. I didn't have a chance to ask about this because the animal's companion came toward the three of us. The giant looked like he was doing to reprimand the dog when he spotted whom Fang was giving his attention to. His face altered to be quite inviting although it was a bit hard to tell with that beard on his face.

"Ah, Remus," exclaimed the giant, "good to see you back."

"It's good to be back," said Remus, taking his hand off of Fang's head.

"I'm surprised you've returned to Hogwarts so soon," said Hagrid. "We didn't expect you back for at least a few more days."

"I wasn't planning on staying in the forest longer than I had to," said Remus. "Besides I found what I was searching for." He then gestured to where I was standing just a couple of feet away.

Up to that point I'd been very quiet and with Hagrid having his attention on Remus the entire time he hadn't realized I was present there. That all changed when Remus alerted him to my presence. He now only saw I was there when Remus pointed at me.

As soon as the giants eyes spotted me his eyes widened in surprise. "Is this," asked Hagrid, the question hanging as his voice trailed off.

Remus nodded, saying "Yes, she is the one I spoke of to you."

For a few seconds the giant just stood there staring at me. I remained silent not really knowing what to do next in this type of situation.

Feeling the tense awkwardness in the air regarding the situation Remus decided to be the one to break the atmosphere.

Clearing his throat, he said "Numa, this is Hagrid. He's the Keeper of Keys and Gamekeeper here at Hogwarts. Hagrid, this is Numa, she's been living in the forest for the past nineteen years."

This seemed to break Hagrid out of the trance he was in. He shook his head and smiled t me. He stepped forward and held out his hand, saying "Welcome to Hogwarts, Miss Numa."

I hesitated a bit before I placed my hand in Hagrid's and as soon as I placed my hand in Hagrid's he shook it. It was like he was shaking my entire arm.

"It's-it's nice to meet you, too," I said, lifting my head to see his face.

Hagrids eyes were glittering down at me, but not in an unkind way. Either way I still moved away from him and back over to Remus's side.

The dog now turned its attention over to me. He jumped on me while trying to lick my ears.

Hagrid chuckled "The dog that's trying to lick your ears off is Fang. Don't let his name fool you, he's completely harmless."

"I can see that," I said, giggling.

Fang's tongue was tickling my skin.

Remus chuckled and spoke to Hagrid as I was trying to hold off Fang.

"I was just about to take Numa inside. Would you like to join us," asked Remus. "I sent a message to Dumbledore to tell him that I was returning with Numa. We'll be heading up to see him."

"Sure," said Hagrid. "Fang, get off of her already!" He shouted that last part to Fang who was still licking my face.

Fang whined, but he did stop his actions. He then went by his master and stayed at Hagrid's side as the four of us headed up to the castle.

As we were walking I kept turning my head in every direction, taking everything in. Remus observed me out of the corner of his eye with a slight smile. It seemed to amuse him to see me so flustered with everything I was seeing and this was only walking inside of the castle. There was no telling how I was going to react once I glimpsed everything else.

Right no I was already quite overwhelmed by what was at present in front of me. There were figures moving on the walls and some of them were even whispering and pointing at us as we passed by. Some of them were even giving me curious glances, not having seen me before and not knowing who I was.

I was gazing so much at everything that I wasn't paying attention to where the three of us were going. The other had been leading me the whole time.

Out of nowhere, Remus said "We're here."

I stopped in place along with them and looked at where we were now. We were now standing in front of a unique stone structure. It had the appearance of a large phoenix with its wings curled a bit at the sides.

Remus looked to Hagrid, asking "do you have the password for today?"

Nodding, Hagrid said "Each of us was told of the change this morning." Hagrid then stepped forward and stood in front of the phoenix. "Chocolate frogs."

Immediately after Hagrid said this something strange happened. The stone phoenix seemed to come alive and move to the side. Hagrid then went past it and began to climb up the stairs with Fang following close at his heels.

Remus went to trail the two of them, but stopped in his tracks when he noticed that I wasn't moving from the place where I was standing.

"What's wrong," he asked.

I looked to the stairs taking a few steps away from them. Seeing that stone phoenix move on its own aside like that without anyone forcing it to made me a bit nervous to go up them.

Figuring out the source of my apprehension Remus smiled and approached me.

"There's nothing to be afraid of," he assured, softly. "What you're seeing is just a spell. It is one that keeps unwanted visitors out of the Headmasters quarters. You need a password to enter and only ones that have it can get in."

Remus's explanation helped me understand, but I still felt a bit tentative. Remus then led the way up and I followed after him.

Up at the top Dumbledore was waiting for us off in his office, be he wasn't there alone. He had his four Heads of House with him.

Minerva McGonagall for Gryffindor.

Serverus Snape for the House of Slytherin.

Pamona Sprout for Hufflepuff.

Filius Flitwick for the House of Ravenclaw.

All four of them were curious with why they had been called. Even more so when Dumbledore wouldn't give them any reasons regarding why.

"Albus, when are you going to tell us why we've been called here," said McGonagall.

"All will be explained very soon," said Dumbledore, mysteriously. That wasn't a very clear answer and it's definitely one that didn't satisfy his colleagues.

"We can't be standing around here all day," said Snape. "Classes will be starting soon and thee are still preparations to be made."

Dumbledore opened his mouth to speak, but was conveniently interrupted. At that exact moment Hagrid had come in through the door.

"Ah, Hagrid," said Dumbledore, pleasantly, "I assume you ran into Remus on your way up here."

"Yes, sir," said Hagrid, "met him as he was coming back from the forest."

This caught everyone, excluding Dumbledore, in the room by surprise.

McGonagall was the most surprised of them all.

"Albus, you told me that Remus was out on an errand for you," she stated.

Shrugging, Dumbledore said "Remus was on an errand for me, but I didn't clarify on what it was he was doing for me."

"And what exactly did you send Lupin out there to do," sneered Snape, scathingly.

Once again Dumbledore didn't answer he instead turned back to Hagrid.

"Is she with them," he asked.

"Yes," said Hagrid, nodding.

The other professors in the room had enough of this nonsense. They were tired of Hagrid moving around the subject at hand. They wanted answers and they wanted them now.

"Albus," demanded McGonagall, "tell us what is going on!"

Sighing Dumbledore sat back in his chair and linked his hands together.

"A few weeks ago when Remus came back from the full moon he returned with some very interesting information.

"What kind of information," asked Sprout.

"He found a young woman inside of the Forbidden Forest," said Dumbledore. "He reported that she was completely wild with absolutely no recognition of what he was. She seemed not to recognize that the two of them were of the same sort."

"You're saying that the girl doesn't even realize that she's even human," said Flitwick.

Dumbledore said "It would appear so, but Remus did say that he could tell that there was a good amount of humanity in the girl to bring her back into our world."

"Are you sure that is wise," stated Snape. "This girl might very well be a Muggle, she might not have any magic in her at all."

"That cannot be decided right now. We'll just have to see," said Dumbledore. At that moment there was a knock on the door. "Ah, that should be them now. Enter!"

Authors Note:

None of you are going to believe what happened to me recently. I was on the way to get my nails done for a potential job interview when suddenly another car slams into my from behind. An idiot driver wasn't paying attention so I and the car in front of me got hit pretty hard. I'm fine, got lucky, not a scratch on me, but it could've been a lot more serious. The of my head hurt and my left side is really starting to feel the pain. Nothing was broken just sore and bruised.

Bad news is my car got totaled. I really liked this car to I've had it for three years. Good news is I was able to buy a new one.

That day was looking so bright and then this crap happened.

For those of you who drive here, take my advice. EYES ON THE ROAD! I came out alive this time around. The same thing might not happen for any of you if you get into an accident. It's harsh, but the truth.
